Plate is a food cart, they split their time between a couple of North Bend/Coos Bay locations. I only knew they were at the Mill Casino so that is where I aimed to catch them. Located on the wooden boardwalk overlooking the bay, Plate comes with a view that cannot be beat. They offer an array of entrees that vary from a Mexican theme with tacos to a Hawaiian theme with macaroni salad that definitely is island inspired. They have good old straight barbecue as well. We tried a variety of items from tacos to chicken to pulled pork. For sides we tried the mac salad and pit beans. Everything was excellently prepared and they were generous with the serving sizes. My only critique was I thought the beans could have been flavored a little better. They were good, but some pulled pork in the beans could go a long way to upping the flavor. They weren't bad, just weren't special. Eating on the boardwalk overlooking the bay was a great experience. It really added an atmosphere you don't often associate with a barbecue joint. I make several trips to Coos Bay a year usually and this will continue to be a must visit for me and my family.

But if, on…read morethe correct night, you know the right people and ask the right questions, you can partake in their small prix fixe dinner menu. I happened to be at the right place and the right time to hear about there Friday evening dinners. For $25, you get to craft your own three course meal from a choice of apps, main courses, and desserts. The menu is constantly changing depending on what is in season. The decor is nothing special unfortunately, it is just a large open space they rent out for events. But the service is always friendly and attentive. Kristin is always chatting with the guests and Jardin will poke his head out of the kitchen if time permits. Definitely worth checking out if you are in Coos Bay on a Friday night. Be sure to stop in during normal business hours and check to see if they are having their dinner menu that evening!

They make the whole thing easy and classy. Both of them are clearly passionate about what they do, and genuinely nice people (who are constantly contributing to the community thru education & charity fundraisers btw). Also, (R.A.P.) Jardin IS opening a restaurant.... soon! It'll be at the Coos Country Club but completely open to the public. From what I've been told, it'll have some great cajun flair, and some really kickass desserts. I cannot wait to go check it out :P

German restaurants are surprisingly rare out west and I haven't eaten German food in decades…read more I grew up with a German immigrant step father and I think he was most homesick for the food. Even though I had a most complicated relationship with him, I still have fond memories of him and miss him. My son and husband ate here about a year prior and have never stopped talking about it and promised to bring me on our next trip. I have a weird dietary restriction, but I could eat off this menu and anything I wanted, which made me soooooo happy. I had the pork roulade and a raspberry beer for dinner. On Sunday I had the Bananas foster French toast. All of the food was excellent, well crafted and well served. We had the caramel pecan cheesecake and my husband, who is the biggest critic and curmudgeon around desserts, was in love with it. I saw a few reviews that the food wasn't authentic, but as it happened the table next to us was a German gentleman (from Germany ) and he seemed absolutely delighted with ALL of it. As was the ghost of my stepfather. It definitely has an old school dark wood, typical German vibe going back to the late 80's/90's. If you want something hip and trendy, well, go somewhere else. It was part of its charm in my view. I loved our kind, but sassy waitress. She made us laugh and took good care of us. Definitely a must stop.

Lastly, get a free slice of cake for paying cash! Boom mic drop...now go get some Blue Heron! P.S. I got Chocolate Bavarian cake as shown in the picture.
