Always incredible food, but the service was exceptional on this Wednesday night. I was greeted by a lovely server named Gianna who was very helpful directing me towards the bar. There was a large, fun crowd there this night playing "Singo", a music version of Bingo. I bellied up to the bar and was greeted by a very pleasant bartender named Heather. It was clear she was something special in her heyday. She suggested a fantastic sandwich (Philly cheesesteak) and a delicious smoked old fashioned. We visited Backroads Pub and Grill this past weekend and sat on their patio. They actually have a pretty large patio with umbrellas for each table which was nice to find in this heat! Maddie (99% positive that was her name) was our server and she was great! We had no idea she was new until she told us. She was friendly and all the servers were following covid safety precautions well. We started with a few beers and I enjoyed the mason jars they were served in. I didn't want anything crazy so I ordered a Pacifico and it came out super quick. There beer selection is pretty small here but it works with a nice juicy burger. I ordered the Rio Bravo again, because I liked it so much the last time. It was cooked medium and the caramelized onions, guacamole, fried jalapenos and chipotle mayo combo is incredible. The crunch of the fried jalapenos takes this burger up a level. I also really enjoyed the fries. They were crispy, extra hot, and even better dunked in my extra side of chipotle mayo. Yes, get yourself an extra side of that. Overall, we'd come back here and hangout on their patio again. Maddie did a great job and we wish her the best as she navigates through her new role. We found this place on Yelp! Great find! We started with the Angry Shrimp. These are breaded, fried, then tossed in hot sauce. Spicy, but good flavor. Would get these again. For lunch he got a Cobb Salad with grilled buffalo chicken and I got the Bourbon Barrel Burger on a pretzel bun. He said the salad was really good and the burger was freakin' amazing. It was super messy, but worth it. We'd come back next time we were in Chicago. read more

This was our first visit here. We sat in the outdoor patio and enjoyed the fantastic weather. The patio is very nice with comfy chairs. Our waitress Jillian introduced us to the menu and their burgers which they're known for. Service was very good and she was attentive but not overbearing throughout our lunch. I got the half-pound burger with applewood smoked bacon and fries while my wife got their version of a breakfast burger. She also had some sort of spicy Mango Rita which she really enjoyed. Our food arrived and my first thought was I sure hope the burger tastes as good as it smells. It had that great chargrilled smell and it turns out the burger's taste matched the smell perfectly. The brioche bun was branded and quite tasty. If I were to change one thing I'd make the bun just a touch smaller as the meat to bun ratio was slightly off for me. And I ordered it medium but it came out medium well though my wife's burger was a perfect medium. Moving on to the fries. My wife and I both found these to be the best fries we have had in a long time! They're battered fries which we always love but the key here is that they were piping hot and crispy and clearly had been plated right out of the fryer. Needless to say we will be back. read more

I live right down the street and it's our go to Sunday spot! The food here is very good and we love the bloody Mary's! Every-time we have gone, we have had great service with each waitress. We never have to sit there waiting to order or asking for more water, they are on top of it! And not to the point where it's too much. The people there are all so nice and welcoming. Even when it's busy, service is still great. Love that we can enjoy outside during the warmer months and still have the fans going. Overall, love it! read more

Love this place! I went last night with a couple friends. The staff was great and the food was good. I ordered the fish tacos because I saw good reviews about them and I love a good fish taco. They did not disappoint. One of my friends also got the fish tacos and the other got the Get Lei'd burger, but got it with chicken. It looked pretty good and I was slightly jealous. She ate the whole thing, so I's assume that was good too. One thing that was disappointing was the cost of my soda, $4 is a bit much, a beer was only $1 more. The service was the best! Every one who spoke to us was kind and attentive. One small oversight on our order, which wasn't a big deal, was noticed by the server when he checked on us. That was impressive. Good job Will! Then the manager offered to have the order remade, seriously wasn't that big of a deal, but very appreciative of the offer. When perusing the Plainfield area for bar fare, one is not short of options. It takes gusto, creativity, and high quality to stand out in this scene. Reaching heights of pub fare ecstasy requires strengths that far exceed weaknesses. What Backroads Pub achieves well merits highest marks, and though it has a plethora of these strengths, some shortcomings prevent this from being a true 5-star recommendation. Where Backroads excels is its burger menu. The uniqueness and effort shines through in every selection; one can immediately recognize the craft that goes into each burger. In my various visits, I estimate eating about 50% of the complete regular burger selection on aggregate, and each burger I ate was a delight. There is something for every palate here, and the perennial options are more than sufficient to recommend this establishment as a go-to burger joint. What makes this all the more enticing is the Burger of the Month creation - which, as the name implies, involves a special burger concoction available only for a particular month. These are experimental choices tailored to tempt the more adventurous diners, and they are brilliant. This adds further value to the already stellar burger offering. Now, burgers may be the feature presentation at Backroads (rightly so), but the other cast members make a valiant appearance. As far as the better options of the bunch, the Baby Back Ribs are a worthy highlight. They pack a tangy and flavorful punch with a tenderness that Elvis Presley would love to sing about. A handful of appetizers show well, including the sinful Reuben Rolls. Though these items are fantastic alternatives to the platinum level burger barn, the rest of the menu falls somewhat flat. Side items are underwhelming, and tend to take away from the positive impact of the main courses. This is true of most items aside from the house fries, which have a more smooth and salty texture than one may find elsewhere. Green beans are not quite as soft as one would expect, and fuji apples would be more aptly monikered as 'mushy apples'; there are 3 variations of tater tots which are not quite unique enough to merit so many options. These sides detract from what is otherwise a pleasant experience. All in all, Backroads Pub delivers the goods in spades. There is a significant part of me that cannot help but wonder if "Backroads Burgers 'n Brews" would be a more apt brand, since the burgers are such a clear labour of love and a crowning highlight. Even so, the pub fare here is more than the sum of its parts, and despite some missteps with side items and otherwise overlooked entrées, this is one establishment that deserves to be on your radar. read more

We enjoy going to Backroads Burger and Bar with our dog. Today we took the whole family, our dog and grand-dog. Everyone there was so welcoming. We each had a burger. Mine was the Bacon Jam. I didn't want the jalapeño bacon so Cooper offered me different options. My husband had the Bourbon Burger. Both were absolutely delicious due to Jade and Alyssa's talent. During the meal, I spilled my beer down between the table and the wall. Cooper brought me another and told me not to worry about it.
