We opted for the mojo bus tour which was complete with a musician on board. Normally I shy away from bus tours because I find them to be boring or frustrating when you get a guide you can't understand or even worse one who sounds like they are reading from a script. I'm happy to say that was not the case with this tour. It was fun and entertaining and we even got to be part of the musical entertainment, which by the way, was fabulous. The majority of the tour focused on the Million Dollar Quartet which is a great story with some really great tunes!! There's some local history sprinkled throughout the tour as well. We were in Memphis on a 95 degree day so a cool bus was not a bad thing. This tour offers the option of going to Sun Studio as well, and we opted for that package. It was nice to get dropped off and picked up at the door and not have to worry about parking. I would recommend this tour too anyone who wants a good overview of Memphis and especially to those who love good old Rock and Roll music!!

We did the Memphis Discovery tour with Larry and had a blast. He had great information and answered all my questions. I loved the "tasting" at Central BBQ which was plenty of lunch for me. It's about the size of a kids meal with a bbq pork slider, kettle chips, coleslaw and a drink. The Rock & Soul Museum is the best. So many original artifacts and a great self guided audio tour with clips from your favorite songs. We learned so much. It took about 1 1/2 hours if you listen to all the recordings. We arrived at the Peabody hotel in time to get a good spot to see the duck sprint, and passed a huge tour group coming in as we were leaving that missed the ducks. Good bargain and excellent your guide.

Went on the Discover Memphis tour this morning. Our tour guide was wonderful!! We loved her personal stories about the city. We have 2 more tours scheduled and hope those are awesome too!

We took the Memphis City Tour that included a trip to the Rock and Soul Museum. It's a three hour tour that includes a bus ride and some walking, but not much. There's a trip out to the Lorraine Hotel where Dr. King was assassinated and is now home to the Civil Rights Museum,a sample at Central BBQ, the Peabody Duck March and some sightseeing of local sights. Short story - absolutely worth the price and I recommend it to anyone on their first day in Memphis. It certainly opens up to you some highlights of the city and what all you might want to see further. At the time of this review the tour was $40. Long story: the Civil Rights Museum is worth 3-4 hours of your time but if it's not your interest of if you don't have a lot of sightseeing time in Memphis it is great that this tour takes you over here. The historical significance of this site is impactful and to be able to see it brings the moment in time alive. There's a stop at Central BBQ which is kitty cornered from the Lorraine Motel. It's listed as a sample of Memphis BBQ and it certainly qualifies as a lunch depending on the time you picked for your tour. We had the 2:30 tour and 7 p.m. dinner reservations so we ate mindfully (and had the benefit of having lunch at Central BBQ in the past). The "sample" is a fountain drink, a BBQ pork slider, home made chips and a small side of cole slaw. If you're into BBQ and you ask around you'll hear about Rendezvous which is an incredibly popular BBQ restaurant downtown, but that's Texas style dry rub BBQ. This is KC style BBQ sauce with a little honey (1) which IMO is better BBQ and (2) gives you a sample of something else if you absolutely have to try Rendezvous on your Memphis visit. There is a 30-45 minute stop at the Rock and Soul Museum. This is a Smithsonian Institution and 45 minutes is too short or just enough time depending on your interest. It's a self guided tour and most interesting to us was the ability to listen to several rock and soul recordings on your headset by picking its number, i.e. 3 a.m Blues by B.B. King and some you've never heard of and some you have - we could have spent more time there to listen to some more. The museum on its own is $12 but included in the tour. As I said our tour was at 2:30 so we made a 5 o'clock stop at The Peabody for the duck march. Nice stop but overall if this is something you want to see you need to show up at least 1/2 hour beforehand to get a decent viewing spot. In between and before you wrap up are a ride by the River (depending on how much you like to walk it's a great opportunity to get a good look at the Memphis Bridge), homes along what was know decades ago as Millionaires Row and a stop by where Elvis lived in his teenage years. Our tour guide, Larry, is a great tour guide, very knowledgeable about Memphis sites and told Interesting tales. I really liked him, very personable, pleasant and professional. If you're staying downtown in Memphis not all of these sites are walkable, especially depending on your physical activity preference and your sense of direction. We are walkers and on our last trip drove to the Civil Rights Museum. I highly recommend this tour as something to do on your first day in Memphis - get a feel for the city and what else you may want to see or explore. It's not my first visit to the city and we made stops are places I had previously been (and I stay at The Peabody) but the tour was very worth it to me for the spots in between Larry took us to that I don't know if I would have ever known about or seen.

The 'Queen' was our guide and she totally made this Memphis trip a memorable one. Even though I've been to Memphis a few times, I've never had someone provide depth to the city's history and culture that is out in the open but not really seen. Queen doesn't just spit knowledge-- she keeps everyone engaged throughout the tour. She also is a master at linking the past with the present, with an added emphasis on prompting action to shape future history. You have my word--take this tour at first opportunity and you won't be disappointed. It'll also be valuable for learning good food and tourist spots for after the tour. Hint: smoked turkey ribs...

The tour guide said she has done this in other states too I would travel to experience this in every state. What an excellent concept. I hope it goes further! I posted a few pictures you have to go in the tour to hear their stories.

Two hours later, he picked us up and took us out and showed us all around Memphis, what it's famous for, all the important historical spots, let us hop out of the car for some photo shoots, then took us all around to spots where famous singers sang at before they became famous. He showed us where Elvis had his first rock and roll concert, where he got his karate lessons, and the salon where Priscilla Presley got her hair done at. He showed us many different districts, local old houses build in the 1800s, and got to show us "shotgun houses" -those long narrow working houses. He drove us past the Lorraine Hotel where Martin Luther King was assassinated at. George is a true Memphis guy. We got to learn so much about Memphis! We probably got way more information out of this trip than we would have if the music history tour bus had picked us up. The best part-- he offered to take us to the airport at 5:20 am! So we got to relax the night before knowing that guaranteed, we had a ride to the airport in the early cold morning. Thanks George! I wish I could put in 20 stars!!!

We weren't impressed…read more Don't waste your time with this company. I believe this tour company and Blues City Tours are one and the same. I searched online for a hop-on, hop-off city tour and came across this company. It was a July 4th Saturday. We arrived at the Welcome Center on time but we were also supposed to pick up other passengers at different stops. The route did not follow the schedule because we had to pick up passengers. The tour guide was hard to hear, either the microphone wasn't working well or the the bus needed servicing... it was competing with the tour guide as far as loudness. The following places were on the schedule: Ticket Booth/Hard Rock Cafe National Civil Rights Museum/Blues Hall of Fame Rock N' Soul Museum/BB King's Stax Museum Graceland Sun Studios Auto Zone Park/Peabody Hotel Bass Pro Shop (Pyramid) Welcome Center We saw 4 of the places listed above. We got off the bus in Graceland and spent quite some time there. The bus runs every hour and 20 mins but the bus came late, we could've stayed a little longer at Elvis' mansion. We thought we'd have to take Uber back in town. We could've done our own self-guided driving tour. It turned out there were only six of us who booked that day and one of the ladies with us was a tour bus guide herself in New Orleans! She too was disappointed with this company. Paid $63 ($30/per person + fees). Don't waste your $$. I was just glad to learn about The Lorraine Motel where Dr MLK Jr. was shot while standing on a balcony outside his second-floor room. We drove to the museum after the tour. Other than that I didn't learn much from the tour. I'm sorry to say but It was disorganized. Review #1876

THIS IS NOT NARRATED AND NOT A TOUR - WORST USE OF TIME IN MEMPHIS…read more I love hop on and off tours when I visit a new city. You usually get a cliff notes overview of the city and attractions and then you can choose what you might want to go back to spend more time on. Usually the buses are frequent and reliable and guides or audio narrations are informative. THIS WAS NONE OF THAT! The site says buses are supposed to start running at 9:00AM and for some reason this service only run once per hour. My companion and I decided to take our time on breakfast and were at our stop to catch the second bus at 10:00 AM. The sign at the stop said it comes by that location at 15 minutes after the hour so we waited. At 10:25 we tried to call to find out where the bus was but continually got a busy signal. At 10:35 my friend walked up to the booth only to find out that the driver decided to start her day at 10:00AM at Graceland that day. She assured us she would be by our stop at 11:15. We came back to the stop at 11:05 and waited until 11:30 before the driver showed up. The bus was old, small, and smelled strongly of diesel fumes, definitely not the bus pictured in the ad. There were a few other couples on at that point and we started chatting. Some folks thought they were on the "blue line" and others wanted the "green line". When asked, the driver said she was the only driver so she would drop people off wherever they wanted. She definitely did not stick to a predetermined route and there would be no telling when the bus might decide to come back if you actually decided to hop off at an attraction! It soon became clear that there was also no narration and when asked about that the driver indicated that she already did it when she started at 10:00AM!? By this time we had ridden to the Stacks Museum which is in a sketchy area so although we wanted off this nightmare bus that by now had made me nauseous from the fumes we were afraid we might not be able to get back to our hotel. Another couple who though they were on the "blue line" told her they wanted to go to the Civil Rights Museum back toward downtown so when she headed that way we asked to be dropped off back at the Peabody Hotel so we could just get in our car and drive, which is what we would have done in the first place if we knew it was not a tour at all but a sketchy and unreliable shuttle bus. I was at the end of a business trip and I had planned for an afternoon flight so I could take advantage of the morning to get a taste of Memphis before heading home. What was supposed to be an efficient way to experience this city turned into a total disaster that sucked up our day. By the time we got of that crazy train, we only had enough time to drive up to Graceland and take a picture and then head to the airport. An unfortunate experience in what should have been a unique city with a rich and vibrant history.
