One of my go to restaurants on the island! You can walk in there in a suit or right after a long bike ride and you will feel comfortable. The atmosphere is comfortable, easy for me to take my 17 month old daughter there or go for a lunch meeting with a colleague. Service is always with a smile and they have had the same staff there year after year, which is a good sign. For lunch I always go with the salmon sandwich. I know, its a BBQ joint, but its just too good to pass up. At night I'll rock the pulled pork or brisket. And if you need to watch the game, whatever sport, this is the place. read more

I go to one of the least expensive places in town AND they're not even particpating in Restaurant Week! Get my drift here? This place was that good! Was it as good as you might find in the south? Almost. But it was good enough to get 5 stars from me. Sliced brisket was wonderful - flavorful and juicy. Ribs were excellent with a great and unique character. Mac & cheese was pretty darn good. And, the slaw was fancy - I don't usually like fancy slaw but it was tasty. I shared an order of grilled asparagus and it was awesome. My husband and I stopped here for lunch after getting off the ferry from Hyannis. The indoor seating was closed due to COVID restrictions, so we ordered online and picked up at their pickup window. They had standing tables outside but no outdoor seating. I got the chopped chicken wrap and my husband got the brisket. We had cornbread and fries as our sides, and fresh squeezed lemonade to drink. This was really great 'Q that I was inexplicably surprised to find on Nantucket. The staff here stood out as much as the food did - which is always a bonus. The manager/owner(?) was there to follow up on how things were going and offered to change any of the TVs to the NFL game I wanted to watch - bonus! We had "The Feebag" which feeds 3-5 people and I can confirm that is a true statement. The four of us were all very hungry and the portion sizes were more than enough to satisfy our hunger. We went with Ribs, Brisket, and Burnt Ends as our meats and each was its own unique version of exceptional though if I had to pick a winner, I'd say the brisket edge the ribs and the burnt ends were a not at all distant third. The sides were also plentiful and delicious with the house fries being the standout here. The beans were good as well, but the mac and cheese was better than the beans for my taste. All in all bACK Yard BBQ nailed it. Fast, friendly service and really good food is a winning combination, only improved by good beer and they had a nice selections of craft brews too. Very glad to have found these guys through Yelp! In short our food was outstanding. I had the Chopped brisket sandwich on a toasted brioche roll and the meat was tender and full of flavor. The four sauces(Hot, sweet, gold and vinegar ) offered means there's a sauce for everyone. I tried them all and went with the Gold sauce which was mustard based Carolina inspired sauce. I also had the Mac and cheese as my side and it was also outstanding. I stole as many house fries as I could from my wife and they were excellent too! We'll be back for sure to try there other offerings when we return. Awesome food service and location! read more

Yum!! Rock on! This place was the perfect real dinner to eat on this far away island. I found some of the high end places like double in price what you'd pay in Boston and not any better. But this BBQ place was friendly, hit the spot, and the price is right! We loved the sliced brisket, baked beans, and Mac and cheese. Now I'm not saying I hate veggies because I don't. But I didn't enjoy the Cole slaw that much or the potato salad. Cole slaw wasn't creamy enough to our liking and while the purple potatoes were appreciated, there was a strange lemony taste I couldn't get behind. They should definitely rework these side dishes because veggies in any form are an appreciated part of BBQ in my opinion. Definitely eat here! read more

Stopped in fairly early on a Wednesday night when out running errands. Beer selection was great, food was fantastic and service was excellent. We had the prime rib egg rolls they were excellent! This place should not have "creole" next to their description. Creole is soulful, tasty and has flavors dancing in your mouth for the whole meal. We ordered the "selfie" which consists of two meats, two sides and warm rolls. We chose the brisket, beef burnt ends, mac & cheese and potato salad. The brisket was dry, we didn't receive our "warm" rolls and the mac and cheese has cheez-it crackers as their "crisp" factor. The mac wasn't too bad, it just lacked flavor. Only thing I would change is on the grilled mushroom sandwich, maybe do a full portobello mushroom or strips instead of 100 small mushroom pieces. Get "the selfie"! $28 for 2 meats, 2 sides, and "rolls" (they only gave us one tiny roll tho). It's a pretty good deal, however, it's served on a plastic tray so that really threw me off. The pork shoulder was ok. I definitely expected it to be more moist and flavorful. The sliced brisket was not bad. It wasn't dry but it lacked flavor. This got pretty boring pretty quickly but I guess that's where the sauces come in . The waiter failed pretty miserably at describing the sauces. He said the bottle labeled "sweet" was a "regular BBQ sauce with tomato and ketchup flavor"--I hope that no diner will ever have the chance to hear that description at a BBQ speciality restaurant. The other side we got was "mason jar veggies" which was just pickled veggies that came with NO MASON JAR!! Why would you name it that but not serve this side in a mason jar???!!? Over promised, under delivered We got the lobster roll too which was also $28. I LOVED their house made coleslaw and dill pickle that comes with this. The other side we got was the cornbread which was also amazing They played really low energy and slow and boring country music on loop. Didn't really match the social environment or make me wanna drink. Grab a seat by the entrance for natural sunlight and good people watching opportunities. The picnic table is fun and conveniently next to an outlet. Overall this was a subpar dining experience. I definitely wouldn't have come here if it weren't for the convenience. It's really close to the ferries and it's one of the few places that serves food at an off hour (3pm). In my one visit, the staff was very friendly. I I really enjoyed the environment; bright and open, yet still had a feel that was fairly fitting for a barbecue joint. The food left something to be desired. It's not as though I know how to cook barbecue, but pulled pork just can't be that dry. That had a selection of really good sauces that were fun to try with the sandwich, but I used them almost to ... rescue the sandwich as much as anything. Had a side of mac and cheese which was great.
