I used to work there and can guarantee the freshness & how REAL all the meat & everything is. Made in house & fresh daily. From the Pork, pies & to the baked beans. Continuous refreshing goes on through out the day. It's all made to order. Best bbq & best atmosphere. Also the best owner, Gary Christian. He'll fix any complaint anyone has. Trust me, if it ain't pretty or fresh, it's not going out to be served. Also, cleaned ATLEAST twice every day. read more

Sweet Tea was THE BEST! The loaded potato I ordered was very yummy though the chicken was slightly dry. The breast quarter I ordered had definitely been sitting there away as it was very dry as well! Overall, everything had a good flavor. I think maybe I just went at the wrong time. read more

Worst food place EVER!!! Don't come to there food trucks unless you want grease instead of barbecue! I got a barbecue sandwich that cost 18 BUCKS!!! the fryies were the best part! The sandwich was so greasy that i think there was enough to cook you ten times the amount of fries they give you! I with never eat here in my life again! read more

What a disappointment. Okay, i get the whole covid scam. And I appreciate they were even open. But...that is no excuse for such bad service and taking full value money for COLD food! I mean, come on. Hot food was expected, especially at those prices. Warm food, meh,...okay...given the circumstances. But cold food...bad business all around. Now, continuing, the girls behind the counter were, at best, being snippy, dipping a couple times into the clear realm of rudeness. All we asked for was a little extra sour cream for our COLD baked potato. You would have thought we just asked for a lock of her hair for a Satanic ceremony! On the plus side, the pulled pork was tasty, though a bit dry. The baked beans were great. Having them served hot, or at least warm, would have firmly landed them in the awesome catagory. Overall, our experience was shameful for that store management and should be addressed at the very next company owners meeting. We have decided to NOT return, writing off our purchase as an expensive total loss. Nor will we recommend this business and its unworthy dining experience to anyone...for any reason. This is a buyer beware restaurant. You have been told. Thank you. read more

I have been to this place about 8 times in the last six years. It's really just okay. I find the pulled pork inconsistent. Sometimes it is good, but it is often be quite dry. The brisket is often dry. The fries are just okay. My kids don't mind the place so we go every once in awhile. If you're looking for great barbecue, this isn't the place that should come to mind first. An upside is that they have drive thru combos to take home. Downside of that is that they limit the sides one can get if you get don't get the smallest family pack. Yes, you can't get fries. Bizarre. When they told me I had to spend an extra $10 to get the fries, I left. I keep thinking that at some point they'll stop phoning it in and serve a decent product. Alas, there are much better, less expensive options out there, folks. read more

Disgusting. I had to actually spit out my food because it was nothing but a mouth full of squishy disgusting fat. My ribs were just bones and the potato was hard and cold. Really disappointing service. Paid $30 for a meal that didn't hold up to the quality of Burger King. Save yourselves now. Go somewhere else! read more

Swept through Jackson heading east on a Sunday after striking out for BBQ in Memphis. I'll never understand a state where most of the best BBQ joints are closed on Sunday. It's like there's a commandment in Tennessee that states: "Thall shalt not consume swine on the Lord's day." But I digress... Backyard BBQ seems to be a local chain that does gang-buster business on Sundays. Why? You guessed it...most of their competition is closed. Regardless, I got a huge plate of pork ribs, sides, and a drink for $16.00. Can you beat that? Not where I'm from. The sides were excellent. The ribs were perfectly smoked and wonderfully tender. The sauce was a bit on the sweet side for my taste, but then I'm used to the punch of Texas BBQ sauce. Nonetheless, the BBQ was good, and I was grateful. read more

Website says open till 9pm. Drove 20 miles to eat here, closed at 4 pm. Going to close on sundays make your god damn website reflect that.

Driving through town toward Memphis and stumbled on this. It was very good!! We would come back here again. Said we would come back again and we did! Yummy! read more

Back Yard Bar-Be-Cue - Yummy and fast. Today's lunch special $5.99. - Barbeque Near Me - Jackson, Tennessee

Got a half rack of pork ribs. Well cooked, nice sticky-sweet bbq sauce. Kind of a small portion, but I think it was only $11 with two sides and bread. Got the green beens and potato salad, Neither of which were that great. Note to self - stay away from potato salad anywhere south of Pennyslvania. Seriously. Anyway - the ribs were good, but not mind blowing. Pretty generic atmosphere. Good for families, though. read more

I actually really like this place, but I always get the BBQ chicken baked potato (so not really BBQ) It is delicious and anytime I am in Jackson I try to stop by and get it. The onion loaf is also good, but very greasy. Friendly people who work here. It is kind of a generic BBQ place decor wise, but for me, it's solid. Good for big groups and families too! FYI they don't serve alcohol. read more

Back Yard Bar-Be-Cue - BBQ chicken tender topping baked potato - delish! - Barbeque Near Me - Jackson, Tennessee

See all

It is very obvious that the employees don't enjoy their job as they have a real attitude problem. The food was good with generous portions but the restaurant seemed like it needed a good cleaning. Will not be going back. read more

No way!!!! I wish I could give no stars for awful service! They had wrong advertising as far as a senior citizen discount. It's advertised on their website. After speaking with the manager on duty they said it was the owners decision not to give senior citizen discounts because of the Times! We are trying to give business to a restaurant and they do this to customers not good customer service at all definitely don't waste your time going here! Never again we recommend Brooksie's barn better service better food read more

Burgers are not real! They are previously frozen and infused with the barbecue flavor placed on a chargrilled of some sort that leaves a burnt mystery meat taste. Will not eat here again. read more

Really enjoyed the BBQ,we will eat there again,I love the pick 3 meat.you get a little bit of everything

Older restaurant but certain things are really good. Tops are the stew, chili, baked beans, stuffed potatoes, BBQ and the potato salad.

This is my go-to place for pulled pork BBQ sandwiches. I love the sauce! The drive through is easy and I can get what I want and be home in no time. Generous portions, good sides, and endless sweet tea - you can't beat it. read more

I am a tough rater when it comes to barbecue. This was one of the better places I've had in the area though. Pulled pork was very smoky and I like that. I had the three meat combination. The brisket was pulled and not bad. The chicken had a great smoky flavor but it was dry. I really liked the sauce though. Baked beans were very good. Coleslaw was not. Friendly staff and fast service and reasonable prices. read more

The ribs were tough and dry. I just moved to Jackson and am trying to find good places to eat, it's been tough and this isn't making it any easier. read more

After much deliberation, I ordered the beef brisket. The cashier unapologetically states "we're out of beef." Keep in mind this is pre-dinner rush, not the end of the evening. So, I order the pork plate, the advertised whiteboard special as you walk in the door. "Sir, that doesn't start until 5 o'clock." "What time is it?" "13 minutes to 5" Being that it looked like the same immature, rude teens doing the cooking as were taking orders, we decided waiting 13 minutes to order a special that was advertised (with no indication of time sensitivity) would definitely not be worth it. read more

We came from D.C. To get the best Tennessee BBQ and struck gold with this place!!! Loved it! BBQ sandwich, stuffed potato, baked beans and corn. Wash it down with a sweet tea! HEAVEN! read more

I'm not sure it even deserves one star, I actually didn't eat the food. We were driving a long time, searched for a good BBQ place, and this came up. I got the tray to the table, and a roach crawled all over my daughters burger, my potato salad, and BBQ pork. The waitress came over and saw it, and said she would replace the food. For some reason, I couldn't bring myself to eat! I got the forty bucks back and went to the restaurant next to it, Rafferty's. It was ok. No roaches. read more

Wife picked up dinner for us. Price was OK They ran out of beef. Pork was dry. Small portions. I don't recommend. read more

This is a place I come to whenever I'm in town. BBQ is good and tea is sweet. The BBQ platters are always a good choice, as is the BBQ potato. Pulled pork is always the best (in my opinion) but other meats are good too. read more

There is much better BBQ to be had in Jackson!! Here, the BBQ is so-so, and the fries are ridiculously greasy!! If you are in a bind, stop here. If not, try one of several other places in Jackson where much better BBQ is to be found!!!! read more

We were on way to Tunica Ms. and stayed overnight in Jackson. Found Back Yard driving to hotel, stopped in and it was wonderful. Great food, great cost, great service, what more could we want.. Sure wished I had a reason to go back (from Ohio) as Backyard was awesome and so was the city of Jackson. read more

I Love the giant stuffed potatoes, and their desserts are delicious. Nice staff too. For lunch they have a good plate lunch that'll fill you up. read more

The Sunday buffet is delicious!!!!!!!! Lots of choices but get there early cause there are times it is empty before the time to end. The baked potatoes are wonderful as well! I love the chili one with extra cheese! yum yum!! read more

Dined here several times. The food is decent, not bad, but nothing to write home about. I've had the pulled pick and smoked turkey. The slaw is good and the fries are always hot. I try not to go very often because the older man, possibly the owner, is always rude and hateful to staff and customers. At least that's been my experience. read more

I eat there four times a week on lunch. Food is awesome and the people that work there, I couldn't ask for better service. I highly recommend this place. read more

This place is probably my favorite place to eat I love their loaded potato's ! And sandwiches, really everything there .

I have so many fond memories of coming to Backyard Bar-Be-Cue. I grew up coming here (in the old location off of highland). The food is consistently good and I will keep coming back. read more

The burger is charred and flavorless had to spit it into a napkin because it was not worth eating. The pulled pork is decent but nothing to go out of your way to get. Would give 3 stars except the staff is snippy overall quite unfriendly. If you ever HAVE to go there I suggest the bbq baked potato. read more

Drive thru is the slowest in town. Took 30 minutes after I ordered. Not enough help. This was at 2 pm

We have had carry out twice as we traveled through town. Both times the food was awesome. Thank you for the great meal. We had the wet ribs for two. Well worth the price. read more

Drive-thru service is the worse I've ever experienced. This is the last review because it's the last penny I spend here.

we came here because the ratings were good but they barely had anything the menu said they did. it's frustrating and they upset our group of 65 read more

I ordered the rack for 2- the four sides we so small it was only enough for one person. The ribs were bland. If you have your mouth set for a meal of ribs- skip this and go somewhere else where you will actually get your full money's worth. read more
