Update If you're…read morelooking for a spot that nails the classics while still feeling fresh and fun, Pooch's Pour House is it. From the moment you walk in, the atmosphere is welcoming--laid‑back enough for a casual night out, but with just the right buzz to make it feel special. Wings: Hands down some of the best wings around. Perfectly crispy on the outside, juicy on the inside, and tossed in sauces that actually taste crafted rather than generic. The buffalo has that ideal balance of tang and heat, while the honey BBQ hits with smoky sweetness. What impressed me most was consistency--every wing came out cooked to perfection, no soggy bites, no overdone edges. Nachos: The nachos are a showstopper. A generous pile that doesn't skimp on toppings--every layer has cheese, jalapeños, and savory goodness, not just the top. The house‑made queso is rich and creamy, and the fresh pico adds a bright kick that keeps the dish from feeling heavy. It's the kind of plate that's perfect for sharing, though you'll be tempted to keep it all to yourself. Beyond the food, the staff is attentive without hovering, and the drinks are cold and reasonably priced. It's the kind of place where you can settle in for a game, a night with friends, or just indulge in comfort food done right. Bottom line: Pooch's Pour House delivers wings and nachos that set the bar high, and the overall vibe makes it a spot worth returning to again and again.

The name of the beer that I had and enjoyed was the Leaning Chimney which is a Smoked Porter. I do love a good porter and especially when the timing and mood is right for one. I really liked the smoky aspect going on with this beer. It is the main highlight and not terribly subtle but not overpowering either. Flavor features to have fun with on this porter are dark chocolate and a coffee flavor with a campfire essence to it. The beer is light bodied for a porter yet still smooth. Grey Sail was a nice dip into the craft beer community of Rhode Island!

Grey Sail Brewing is a craft brewery that opened in Westerly, Rhode Island in November 2011. It was…read morefounded by husband and wife Alan and Jennifer Brinton. A chemical engineer by day, Alan brewed at home at nights and on weekends. In 2009, Alan and his wife Jennifer started thinking seriously about opening a brewery. The couple located a circa 1920s building that had originally been the Westerly Macaroni Factory. They outfitted the building, hired a great staff, and were open by the end of 2011. The first beer they brewed was "Flagship Ale". Jennifer oversaw the brewery operation while Alan continued to work full-time as an engineer, all while they raised four children. The Brintons later purchased the historic Cataldo House next door. After a careful renovation, they opened this property as their taproom and outdoor beer garden in May 2016. The brewery also partnered with Vetrano's Restaurant to launch "Vetrano's Wood Fired": fresh wood-fired pizza prepared on-site at the beer garden. The original brewery building is now used exclusively for production, canning, and beer-to-go sales. In 2020, Grey Sail expanded by opening South County Distillers: a sister distillery located on the same property. I have been enjoying Grey Sail's beer since the earliest days of the brewery. I have also visited the brewery a number of times and enjoyed watching them expand over the years. I recently stopped there for lunch with my son while we happened to be passing through the area. After grabbing a table at the beer garden, I ordered a sampler flight at the taproom which consisted of "Hazy Day" (Belgian Wit), "Middle Child" (IPA), "Raspberry Reef" (Wheat Ale), and "Haze, Ho!" (New England IPA). The latter was my favorite. For food, my son and I ordered and shared a "Cheese Pizza" and a "Margherita" (fresh mozzarella, sauce, basil, parmesan cheese, EVOO) from Vetrano's. We really enjoyed the pizza! During our visit, my son and I also enjoyed a few games of corn hole. Between their eclectic beer selection, quality craft cocktails, delicious wood-fried pizza, and spacious taproom and beer garden, I highly recommend a visit to Grey Sail Brewing!

The staff was extremely friendly, especially our outside bartender Gabrielle, who was fantastic, so personable and creative with her drinks. Honestly, the drinks and her service were the best part of our experience. We started with the lobster wraps, which were good, but the tarragon and dill were very strong and overpowered the lobster. Next we had the scallops for $38, which I didn't feel were worth the price about 12 small scallops with a bit of lettuce. They were cooked well, corn sauce was nice but nothing particularly special, and I would've ordered differently knowing what I was getting. We were still hungry, so we got the rigatoni, which was delicious. My only note was again the heavy use of fresh dill, which started to overpower an otherwise great dish. Overall, I would absolutely come back for the location, the great staff, and especially Gabrielle. I'd return for drinks and try different menu items next time.
