First time here. Have always been a fan of Captains Daughter by them. Wanted to come and try something different. My husband and I shared a flight of beer. There flight comes with 4 beers. The beers were good but we agreed that Captains Daughter is our favorite. You can go next door to their store and purchase cans of their beers. They also sell growlers of their beers. They also sell merchandise and other spirits in there store. They also had an outdoor patio area open with a wood burning pizza oven. Unfortunately we didn't get to try pizza this visit. Definitely worth a stop.

Fabulous antique home with many seating options both inside and out. Interesting architecture inside and great picnic vibe outside. The beer menu was diverse from DIPAs to NWIPA to sours and cider. I found the NEIPA to be very good with grapefruit undertones. But the cream ale was middle of the road to in my opinion. The inside was fun and comfortable, until we were driven outside by a woman at the next table whose volume rose increasingly. It would have been fine but she was excruciatingly boring. In the end I want to thank her. The outside was delightful!! You can bring in your own food, and there is a lot of seating. Overall a great experience!!!

Nice way to start your evening. Ordered a few flights if their beer and shared it between my husband and me. They definitely have a great selection of IPA's. My husband's favorite was the Adrift IPA and we both enjoyed their sour, Cranberry Orange Fruited sour. The ambience was perfect. Their outside seating looks fun, unfortunately it was raining, so we were unable to enjoy.

Grey Sail is a top notch brewery offering a wide variety of ales, stouts, kölsch and more. They are located on Canal St In Westerly RI in a beautifully restored old Victorian mansion with ample seating room inside. There is an attached outside Bier Garten with shaded long table seating or smaller round tables for smaller parties. You need not go inside to refill as there is a full complement of taps available in the garden area. We tried eight different items but for me the clear winner was the Pour Judgement IPA, truly among one of the very best I've had. Grey Sail is definitely a destination for serious and not so serious beerheads and is worthy of spending an hour or more savoring a few of their delightful beer creations.

This is a nice brewery in Westerly that is kid and dog friendly! They have their popular featured beers like Captain's Daughter and would love to see more variety or newer ones more often. I did get to try one of their sours that I did enjoy! I do love their location and they do offer two parking lots. Their brewery is in a typical home so the rooms are all pretty nice how it's laid out and homey. They have games, a dart board, corn hole, and also offer Vetrano's pizza! Their outdoor area is also very nice and is fenced in and large. Plenty of areas to sit and they also have a lot of shaded areas. There is plenty of room for the kids to play too!

We stopped in on a relatively busy weekend. The lots were all full in the area, so we had to park on the street, which is fine, as there's a pretty good amount of street parking. The brewery expanded their taproom into this neighboring building, which is a converted house. It was pretty rainy that day we showed up, so we didn't get to explore the whole place, but it was pretty nice, with a lot of little rooms for hanging out in. My main quibble is that at the bar location, they really could use an overhead board to make it easier to see what's on tap in advance. They have a bunch of little menu cards that can be picked up, but when you have a pretty crowded room, being able to have a glance up at the board makes it a lot easier to make a quick decision. The beer here is excellent, some of the best if you're looking for a good example of New England IPA. Definitely worth a visit!

I've been to a hundred breweries and have sampled maybe thousands of beers and the place to go is ALWAYS the source. Why? It should be obvious but not only will the brewery monitor the beer to provide the consumer with the freshest product they can (their name is on the line), there are no storage delays, nor shipping mishaps. If someone recommends a beer to you, and try a bottle from the liquor store and it stinks, chances are it was on the shelf too long or subjected to the store's harsh lighting. This won't happen at a brewery. Go to the source. Grey Sail was recommended by my nephew although he never tried it before; word of mouth. Located in a Victorian type house in Westerly next door to the brewery, it wasn't that easy to find. Once there I was awed by their selection. 16 taps of many varieties; from triple IPAs to sours, Belgians to stouts and a bit in between. You can enjoy the beer in different rooms. You get the feeling you are actually in someone's home. Perhaps it is; my first visit. Check them out if we'll crafted beer is your thing.

This was an awesome taproom! In an old Victorian style home, you enter and feel like you're actually sitting in someone's home. The bartender was very friendly. We enjoyed flights of beer to try a variety of their own brews and played board games! Awesome spot to relax!

    Worth the trip!

The gold standard for breweries in RI. The beer is awesome, have to have Captain's Daughter! Great grilled pizza, and lots to do outside. It's a long ride if you're from the northern part of the state, but well worth it. This really is a must visit.

A chemical engineer by day, Alan brewed at home at nights and on weekends. In 2009, Alan and his wife Jennifer started thinking seriously about opening a brewery. The couple located a circa 1920s building that had originally been the Westerly Macaroni Factory. They outfitted the building, hired a great staff, and were open by the end of 2011. The first beer they brewed was "Flagship Ale". Jennifer oversaw the brewery operation while Alan continued to work full-time as an engineer, all while they raised four children. The Brintons later purchased the historic Cataldo House next door. After a careful renovation, they opened this property as their taproom and outdoor beer garden in May 2016. The brewery also partnered with Vetrano's Restaurant to launch "Vetrano's Wood Fired": fresh wood-fired pizza prepared on-site at the beer garden. The original brewery building is now used exclusively for production, canning, and beer-to-go sales. In 2020, Grey Sail expanded by opening South County Distillers: a sister distillery located on the same property. I have been enjoying Grey Sail's beer since the earliest days of the brewery. I have also visited the brewery a number of times and enjoyed watching them expand over the years. I recently stopped there for lunch with my son while we happened to be passing through the area. After grabbing a table at the beer garden, I ordered a sampler flight at the taproom which consisted of "Hazy Day" (Belgian Wit), "Middle Child" (IPA), "Raspberry Reef" (Wheat Ale), and "Haze, Ho!" (New England IPA). The latter was my favorite. For food, my son and I ordered and shared a "Cheese Pizza" and a "Margherita" (fresh mozzarella, sauce, basil, parmesan cheese, EVOO) from Vetrano's. We really enjoyed the pizza! During our visit, my son and I also enjoyed a few games of corn hole. Between their eclectic beer selection, quality craft cocktails, delicious wood-fried pizza, and spacious taproom and beer garden, I highly recommend a visit to Grey Sail Brewing!

Beer'd Brewing Company is a craft brewery that opened in Stonington, Connecticut in November 2012…read more It was founded by husband and wife Aaron Simoncini and Precious Putnam. After enrolling in a class entitled "Beers of the World" in college, Simoncini became very interested in craft beer and soon began homebrewing. It was during this time that he gained the nickname "Beer'd". Eventually with his now-wife Putnam, Simoncini set out to open his own brewery. The couple set up shop at the Velvet Mill in Stonington. The historic building was originally home to the American Velvet Company, which operated from 1892 to 1996. Today it is a multipurpose building that is home to a thriving community of small businesses and artist studios. When Beer'd originally opened in the mill, they had just a 100-barrel system. The brewery quickly became notable for their small-batch high quality IPAs. In 2018, Beer'd opened a secondary facility at the Airport Business Park in Groton. This new 12,000-sq-ft space expanded their production capacity to 6,000 barrels. An adjoining 60-seat taproom (dubbed "Beer'd Brewing @ The Silo") opened at the Groton facility in January 2020. To differentiate the two taprooms, the original location in Stonington is now often referred to as "Beer'd Brewing @ The Mill". I first visited Beer'd in 2013 (when they were just one of a small handful of breweries in Connecticut), and I've been a huge fan of their beer ever since. They are one of my favorite Connecticut breweries and I have visited them multiple times; they were even a stop on my brewery bus tour bachelor party. I also must point out that Aaron and Precious are lovely people. I recently stopped there while I was in the area. It had been a while since my last visit and there were a few changes. In addition to the original taproom, Beer'd has set up an indoor beer garden in the center of the Velvet Mill. Patrons can enjoy some beer paired with food from one of the mill's many food vendors. Beer'd also set up a designated "Dog Den" for patrons to enjoy a beer if they have furry friends. During this visit, I enjoyed a taster flight that featured "8 Days A Week" (Pale Ale), "Stunner For the Win" (New England IPA), "An Unexpected Upgrade" (Double IPA), and "Heavy Weight-Of-Sound" (Triple IPA). They were all excellent! I plan to continue enjoying Beer'd beers for years to come!

And honestly, you can feel the good energy when you walk in. Other reviewers rave about the atmosphere and service, and I get it. The team is warm, the space is inviting, and the whole experience feels very "local gem." But here's where the 3‑star reality sets in: the flavors all start blending together. For a cidery/meadery with such a big menu, I expected more range. Instead, most pours land in the same sweet‑leaning zone, making it tough to distinguish one from the next. After a few sips, everything felt like variations on the same theme. Not bad -- just not memorable. If you're new to cider or prefer sweeter profiles, you'll probably love it. But if you're hoping for bold contrasts, dry options, or something that really stands out, the lineup might feel a little one‑note. Still, the staff is great, the vibe is relaxed, and it's a fun stop if you're already exploring Westerly. With a bit more variety in the flavor profiles, this could easily jump to a 4‑star spot. Cheers
