Great beer selection, there is something for everybody. I had a few Juicy Bullsh!t and the Cloudbreak Double IPA. They were all really good - I prefer the Juicy because it's a really nice Hazy IPA. We also tried the "What the Hefe is going on" which was a pretty solid Hefeweizen. They are located in a bit of an industrial area and only had 4 tables indoors but had about 10 more under a tent outside, which was great in the heavy rain.

We stopped at Outer Light on a mini brewery tour with some friends. None of us had been there before, but we all agreed that the tasting room area had great atmosphere, service was friendly, and it was a nice quite space for catching up with friends. We ordered a flight of beers, a pint of ch ch cherry bomb and an apple cider. Overall the flavors were good, but not memorable. I didn't find their taste to be unique, but it was smooth and easy to drink. If you're looking for a brewery to hit up that isn't packed, this is a good option we went in prime time on a Saturday and there was one other table, so service was fast. Signs in the bathroom said they do trivia on certain nights, and I think this would be a great place for that if we lived in the area.

Working on the CT beer passport so hit this brewery on the way to the Mystic boat parade. there is ample parking and they had good variety. Liked the relaxed atmosphere- probably seats no more than 30 including the bar seats so don't plan on coming in a bus, etc without calling ahead Few cons: No crawlers 6 packs are pricey When doing a flight, they don't recommend order - expect you to figure it out

Best coffee stout ive ever had they offer a variety of flavors to taste. Great as always Cheers

Outer light is my absolute favorite local brewery. I've been here too many times to count and every visit is equally as great as the last. In my opinion the coffee stout is their best brew. But what I like best about them is that they experiment with different styles of beer. From saisons, to red ales, gose, oyster stout, fruit beer, and of course IPA variations. They often hold functions just outside of their brewery area(such as an octoberfest coming up)..... but I often secretly hope they outgrow their current facility and move into something a little more roomy. They are however located just around the corner from my place if employment(electric boat), which makes a Friday afternoon stop all to easy. They also sell pretty cool gear, believe I own a growler, shirt and a hat.... all super trendy and great quality. Stop by the October fest I'm sure I'll be there!!! Cheers

I stopped by here this past Sunday afternoon with my wife for some afternoon drinks. We had spent the day in Mystic and were headed to the Mohegan Sun that evening whenever we had some time to waste. So naturally I turned to Yelp and found Outer Light Brewing which I hadn't heard of before. The brewery itself is located in quite an industrial section of Groton but the tap room is nice. It has a bar in the back with a number of high top tables that you can sit at. You are also able to see their brewery with the fermenters and barrels through some windows on one side. Last but certainly not least they had a cart filled of board games that you could play. On this occasion as I often do when visiting a new brewery I decided to go with a beer flight to taste a number of different brews. It's $8 here for a flight with the glasses looking deceptively small. After looking over their menu I ultimately decided on the firelands (smoked Porter), shark biscuit (IPA), SUBduction (IPA) and cloud break (DIPA) which was considered an imperial and so cost an extra $2. As you can tell from that list I went a little hop heavy with my selections but still enjoyed all of them. My favorite of the bunch ended up being the cloud break and there wasn't a single one that I didn't like. While I was drinking the flight my wife and I ended up playing connect four which was nice as well. The bottom line for me is that I would head back here again in the future. Outer Light brewing is a pretty cool place and I enjoyed all of the beers that I had as well.

Brewery is in a little industrial kind of strip mall. Quite a few tables and some what busy when I visited. Staff was busy just pouring, not much into talking beer, or chatting. Tried one of their signature beers. It was an ok time, ok beer.

Great small Brewery with some unique flavors. Staff are real nice. Place is open to outdoors but has no insects in your face. Only thing missing is food which you can just have delivered from neighborhood restaurants.

Ventured across the river to Groton in search of some craft brews straight from the source. I was pleasantly surprised to find that Outer Light was not only open, but shortly celebrating their official grand opening, and put it on my calendar to make an appearance to see what CT does with breweries. At first blush, you could easily miss this brewery, situated in s business park industrial complex just south of the freeway. Its tasting room is conveniently next door to where all the brew magic happens, so it's easy to get a tour of the facility and learn about what goes on behind the scenes to make what's in your frosty mug. The party was well attended, with an outdoor tent for some select tastings, tall tables, food, and live music. Inside were the rest of the offerings, and the wondrously gleaming brew tanks. Tastings were $5 for a giant glass of liquid sunshine, or you could purchase a growler if you really fell in love with something and didn't want to make the drive back. In the outdoor tent, they were tasting the Hefeweizen Outerweiss- traditional and European tasting, a Saison-spicy and aromatic, and the Academy German Pale Ale-a trusty and straightforward solid contender. Indoors, we sampled the SUB-duction IPA- my husband's favorite in a Submarine dispenser, the Imperial Pilsner- a 9.+ ABV heavy hitter with crisp notes and dangerously drinkable, and the Jonathan Edwards oaked Chardonnay, which despite being at a brewery event, was my favorite thing we sampled. Staff were attentive, frazzled and mostly knowledgeable about the product, with a few exceptions that I chalked up to grand opening staffing nerves. I was pleased with the variety they make including stouts, ambers, lagers, and include wines for a change of pace from another CT crafter. They also offer brewer dinners with paired foods for each drink, and community events where they join forces with other local brewers and winemakers. I'm absolutely excited to have a brewery so close, and looking forward to see what they do next.

Took a ride to OLBC on a rainy Sunday afternoon. Nice, clean tap room. We sat at the bar and chatted with the bartenders and the other craft beer lovers. Nice list, good variety of beer styles. Did a flight before indulging in a pint of Firelands Smoked Cherry Porter-so delicious! Cannot think of a reason not to visit. We'll be back!

The sign says it! Outer Light has one of the best atmospheres and some of the friendliest welcoming staff you can find! They're Connecticut's version of Cheers The variety of beer, as well as, table red and white on tap is bound to quench anyone's thirst and satisfy one's palate. Be sure to check them out because Outer Light has it all

Silly bday picture with my friend as well as Matt and Tyler from OLBC. Everyone keeps it pretty loose here.
    Chris J.

This place is great! I've been going to OLBC for over a year now. When they opened their doors I lived a 5 min walk down the road so I had high hopes they would be good. Well I became a regular fast and started visiting as often as I could. The space is great. On a quiet night there is plenty of seating for you and yours to bring some food to eat or play one of the board games they have sitting around. When it's busy...well it's lively and a hoot. It's honestly one of my favorite spots for a beer with friends. The beer is what you come to expect from a brewery in today's fast growing market. Amazing year round offerings covering the standards, coffee stout, red ale and IPA. All above average in my book. And a constantly changing rotation of seasonals. After a year there are definitely some beers I can't wait to see again (their imperial stout, any one of the double IPAs). They aren't afraid to try other styles either like Saisons, Heffs and Gose. I consider myself very lucky to live in an area where I can grab such high quality brews so easily. The people working there make you feel like you're coming to a friends house. I can't say enough about how friendly and welcoming the crew is. So wether your a local or visiting from out of town using Yelp to figure out the good breweries in town (I so often do this) stop in, have a drink, make a friend and enjoy! Tell 'em "Jamiroquai" sent you.

    My flight.
    Ashley C.

I really enjoyed my visit here. The tap room is a little smaller than others that I'm use to, but still nice and can hold a good crowd. Very relaxed welcoming vibe. Good selection of beer and some pretty nice eye candy serving at the bar. I'll be back for sure.

    Is outer light dog friendly?

The indoor area is sort of small. I've def seen dogs and know they are pretty welcoming of dogs. I would say more so on warmer days when the doors are opened and tents are being used.

Deep sighs from lady at counter clearly irritated at our question if there were any sandwiches or handhelds as she flung her hand up at the screen. Apologized and said we'd seen them listed on the website. Not a great welcome. Ordered at the counter and handed a buzzer. We all ordered ourselves. Collectively - two pizzas, three orders of wings, and a Ceasar salad. We also went to the bar to get drinks. Then we got our own paper plates, napkins, and plasticware. Buzzer went off for one of us about ten minutes later. Pizza. Then 5 minutes later, another's. Wings. Not one person's whole order, but piecemeal. We made SIX separate trips from the front where we were sitting all the way to the back. So it was grab a bite of pizza - BUZZZZZZ - go get salad - a few mouthfuls - BUZZZZZZ - one order of wings - this dance went on for a half hour! Who eats like that? Salad was warm, drowned in anchovy forward dressing and limp lettuce. Asked for extra crispy wings. Flaccid. Super bummed. We had to go back to place our order, get our own tableware, set the table, and then pick up the food... If we had known all this I don't know that we would each have left a 20% tip after ordering. Received more care and service at a DD drive through. Pizza itself was great - just cold by the time we got all our food and were able to sit still and eat. So... all in all - great atmosphere to grab a beer at the bar and yak or order ONE pizza so you all could actually enjoy it warm. Group each wanting something different or expecting food brought to you - not the spot. Just go with the right expectations and you will enjoy.

Beer'd Brewing Company is a craft brewery that opened in Stonington, Connecticut in November 2012…read more It was founded by husband and wife Aaron Simoncini and Precious Putnam. After enrolling in a class entitled "Beers of the World" in college, Simoncini became very interested in craft beer and soon began homebrewing. It was during this time that he gained the nickname "Beer'd". Eventually with his now-wife Putnam, Simoncini set out to open his own brewery. The couple set up shop at the Velvet Mill in Stonington. The historic building was originally home to the American Velvet Company, which operated from 1892 to 1996. Today it is a multipurpose building that is home to a thriving community of small businesses and artist studios. When Beer'd originally opened in the mill, they had just a 100-barrel system. The brewery quickly became notable for their small-batch high quality IPAs. In 2018, Beer'd opened a secondary facility at the Airport Business Park in Groton. This new 12,000-sq-ft space expanded their production capacity to 6,000 barrels. An adjoining 60-seat taproom (dubbed "Beer'd Brewing @ The Silo") opened at the Groton facility in January 2020. To differentiate the two taprooms, the original location in Stonington is now often referred to as "Beer'd Brewing @ The Mill". I recently visited Beer'd @ The Silo. Although they are one of my favorite Connecticut breweries and I've visited their Mill Taproom multiple times, this was my first visit to the Silo Taproom. Unlike the OG taproom which is more family-friendly, the Silo Taproom is intended to be exclusively for the 21+ crowd. It's a pretty nice space too. I pulled up a seat at the bar and looked over the draught menu. Throughout my visit, I enjoyed short pours of "You Like 'A Da Juice" (New England IPA), "Matter of Time" (New England IPA), "Roulette" (Russian Imperial Stout), and "Heavy Weight-Of-Sound" (Triple IPA). They were all excellent, but the last one was my favorite! I'm honestly not sure which taproom I prefer. If you've got little ones or furry friends with you, then head to the Mill. If you prefer a more adult exclusive experience, then head to the Silo. Either way, I plan on enjoying Beer'd beers for years to come!

Beer'd Brewing Co. - The Silo: A Hidden Gem Worth Finding…read more Beer'd was our second favorite stop on our Niantic-to-Mystic beer crawl--and easily one of the better surprises of the weekend. Tucked away in the back of an industrial park near the Groton-New London Airport, The Silo feels like a place you'd only find if someone tipped you off... or if you followed the unmistakable scent of hops and good decisions. We tried two beers during our visit: Organized Playdate, a lime- and pineapple-forward Double IPA with a subtle zestiness, and 8 Days a Week, a clean, easy-drinking American Pale Ale. Both were solid pours--bright, flavorful, and balanced. The kicker? They were on special for just $4 each, which made them taste even better. No complaints. The vibe inside The Silo is sleek and modern without being cold. Think clean lines, minimal décor, and just enough polish to feel stylish while still being comfortable. Despite the industrial setting outside, the taproom has a warm and welcoming feel--a cozy, intimate space that makes it easy to settle in for a round (or two). Service hit the sweet spot: friendly, knowledgeable, and attentive without being overbearing. Just what you want when you're tasting your way through unfamiliar brews. Bottom line: Beer'd gets it right. The beers are creative without trying too hard, the space is chill without being boring, and the prices made it feel like a find. If you're in the area, it's worth the slight detour off the beaten path.

Niantic Public House & Brewery: Solid Beer, Great Vibe, but the Bar Setup Needs Help…read more Final stop--or technically, our first--on our Niantic-to-Mystic beer crawl was Niantic Public House & Brewery, conveniently located near our Airbnb. The town was buzzing with tourists, and we caught the tail end of a local car show just up the street. The scene had great small-town energy, and live music was just setting up when we arrived. Bonus points for easy parking behind the building. The space has a cool, industrial vibe with bold murals from local artist Jacob Cullers giving it some character. The taproom itself is big, open, and welcoming, with plenty of seating at the bar and throughout the space. The décor isn't exactly cohesive, but it has personality--and for a laid-back beer hang, that works. We tried Mystery of Juiceboxin', a super juicy New England IPA brewed with Mosaic and Citra hops (juiceheads, this one's for you), and D.S.D., a stronger, bolder Imperial IPA. Both were solid pours and easy to enjoy. I ended up going back for a second, which--if you've read any of my brewery reviews--you'll know is my personal barometer for whether a place is worth the stop. The vibe here is clearly geared toward community--super family-friendly, casual, and unpretentious. The live music was a nice touch too. J.C. Revival, a local duo, was playing that afternoon and added just the right amount of energy without overwhelming the space. Now... let's talk about the service. The bartenders themselves were friendly, upbeat, and doing their best--but the layout of the bar is absolutely killing them. Glassware is at the front, taps and sinks are in the back, and it felt like they were in a constant loop just trying to fulfill basic orders. Even on a slow day, service was sluggish simply because of how inefficient the setup is. You could see how hard they were working, but the system they're working within just doesn't make sense. A bar remodel focused on flow and function would go a long way here--not just to improve speed, but to take some pressure off the staff, who really were trying their best. Bottom line: The beer is worth the visit, the space has charm, and the energy is welcoming. But if you go, pack a little patience. Here's hoping they invest in a more functional bar setup--because with better service speed, this place could be a standout.

Scallop Risotto, Fish& chips, fried shrimp basket and caesar salad with chicken. Drinks arrived minus one because they were out of the whiskey, provided a replacement, but the drink never came to the table. Food was ok. The fried things were very tasty and well made. The wings were nice, tender and good sauce/flavor. Truffle fires were good, little heavy on the truffle oil, but tasty Scallops were prepared well but the "risotto" was more like rice pilaf. The caesar salad was nicely dressed, the added chicken was grill to as close to raw and still be "cooked". It was very soft and chewy - that was pushed to the side. If you go, stick to the bar, brunch, apps, or something fired. I think this place is good if you go when they are fully staffed or something. I would happy choose someplace else if I were in town for a show.

One sample that was not requested and one sample 3/4 of an inch and a 2 ounce glass. I know it sounds trivial, but seven dollars is seven dollars. Another bartender listen to us explain that and took it off of our bill. Make sure you check your receipts.

Waitstaff was very pleasant and service was fast. They are a beer garden and while they had a large tap list, it wasn't particularly interesting on the day we were there. Looking at their current tap list it's much better, but I'd still love to see more Belgian beer. The food was good. Their Belgian fries are amazing! I got a chicken schnitzel sandwich which was very tasty, but I was disappointed by the portion size for $16. The bun was your average grocery store burger bun size, and the piece of chicken was smaller than that. My husband's Reuben was good, but not particularly special. Overall, I'd come back again, but there are places in Mystic I'd rather go first. It's a 3.5 for me, but I'll round up for now.
