I had been meaning to try this place for a while. I was sad when I almost decided to walk out. Number one it's Pepsi products bottled only. I really want fountain drinks where I can get a refill. Even so they were out of everything but Mountain Dew, starry and orange crush. No colas no diet for people who can't eat the sugar. The only other option for a drink is a small jug of a kool aid like drink for $3.50. A lot of the sandwiches are $20 they came with nothing. Some have things like slaw or fries on them. I got the brisket lunch for $16. It included no bread and only 1 side. Dinner is 2 sides but $21. Sides are $4 so this makes no sense. The dinners used to include a drink but they don't anymore. So you can order the extra side separately and pay $1 less. Also they were out of corn on the cob and mushrooms as well as burnt ends. The brisket was mediocre a little tough and not as much of the fat rendered as I would like. All 3 stars of this rating is for the Mac and cheese. It was wonderful. Lots of real cheese. The noodles were cooked perfectly and just a touch of jalapeño. Her baked beans were great too both in texture and flavor. I think the sauce was okay but they gave so little of it I could barely taste it and after my first brisket slice it was gone. Next time I will just get some Mac and skip the rest. read more

My biggest annoyance with most of the food trucks around town is that they are ridiculously overpriced. Back Deck BBQ Backk Bbq is possibly the most affordable food truck in the city, offering a lot of options at very reasonable prices. One of the lunch specials is 6 wings, a side and a drink for $8! Cheap food does not mean the lack in the quality. The wings I had were tender and perfectly smoked. The seasoning was just right and no sauce was needed. If you do, the tangy bbq is a nice addition. I had the pleasure of trying Back Deck yesterday at their "8K Saturday" fundraiser. They are currently raising money to open a Brick and Mortar location and that makes me really happy! The owner has traveled the country learning about all types of BBQ and has brought that knowledge back to the 'Ville with him and his truck at Back Deck. We tried a variety of meats including the wings, beef ribs, brisket, and pulled pork and all of it was fantastic. It was all tender and juicy and packed with flavor. The dry rub they use is definitely one of the best I've ever had. It's both a little sweet and a little spicy and very much addictive. It's so flavorful that you definitely do not need sauce. For our side dishes we tried the Smoked Mac and Cheese, Green Beans, and Corn on the Cob and they were all good but the Smoked Mac and Cheese was the star. My kids who are seriously particular about their Mac and cheese both loved it. If you happen to see this truck out and about do yourself a favor and stop for some food. You will not be sorry. Ordered the rib tips and Mac n cheese for lunch. $15.90 with no drink. Painful given this is a mom and pop joint. My friend got the same thing but he received 1.5 times more rib tips than me. He didn't eat all his anyway as the meat took too long to chew. They have sandwiches that look righteous but are $22! If they were big enough to make into two meals that would be ok. The meat was chewy and I tasted just a hint of smoke. I don't know if he is not smoking long enough or just not using hickory wood. I feel like Louisville is not capable of good bbq. Back Deck BBQ is hands down the best BBQ in the city! I'm from Kansas City and have missed good BBQ since moving to Louisville, but Back Deck BBQ is just as good, if not better than KC BBQ. Their wings (really all their meat) is delicious, no sauce is needed and they are seasoned and smoked perfectly! The Mac and Cheese is my favorite side, but the beans and yams are good too. We were heading out of downtown Louisville to go home and decided to order food from Back Deck for carry out. I called and told them it would be 20 minutes before we could get there and she said she'd hold the order so food would be hot and it was. The staff in the store were so courteous and friendly and the food we ordered was ready when we got there. We just ordered one dinner of pulled pork, Cole slaw and mac and cheese to split. We literally got four sandwiches out of the pork, split the two sides and had enough left over (one of the sandwiches) and a serving of mac and cheese and slaw that I had for lunch the next day. All the food was delicious. The pulled pork has such a great flavor, the mac and cheese is smoked and so rich and the Cole slaw is creamy and sweet. Not a lot of parking or seating but they do have indoor and outdoor seating. Parking is available in nearby lots if not directly in Back Deck's lot. I highly recommend and if you don't want leftovers then you need to split dinners. read more

The only other complaint I have is that they had no plastic ware for carry out. We were visiting from out of town staying in a hotel. My family and I stopped by Saturday july 6 2024. Having seen this place on Goodall and Facebook foodies groups I was excited, Service was friendly , a little pricey for BBQ. Now the food we wanted to try as many different things as we could so we got two platters on the platters we chose spare ribs brisket ,burnt ends , turkey and sausage. Spare ribs were OK , Burnt ends were amazing, the brisket , turkey and sausage I needed a bucket of water to re hydrate these meats they where like eating cardboard with sauce and rub horrible worst brisket Ive ever had not sure if this left over from previous service and throw back on smoker but desert dry. Ive were never had a sausage so dry that it was meely,The turkey had a hard tough consistency like cardboard. Brisket horribly dry. The only thing that they got right was the Burnt ends which were to die for. The price wow 2 platters and 4 bottle cokes with tip was $104. definitely not worth cash . Have visited several times for lunch and the guys are always friendly and helpful. Their food seemed expensive at first glance, but truly smoked Q requires a serious and ongoing investment by owners (rent, insurance, payroll, product cost increases, etc.). I've tried the ribs, sausage, wings and brisket. Ribs are absolutely delicious. Smoked baked beans are good and the fries are hot and fresh. Sliced brisket was tasty but can be dry at times (it's hard to make juicy brisket on an open pit). The greeting was nice but the food was not. At noon we enter the place. We ask to order the burnt ends. These are on the menu. We are told they only have those on certain days. Okay, no mention of that on their website when we looked. And that was not on the menu sign in the store either. We decide to move on. We ask to have brisket. We are told sorry, we don't have any. I have one on but it's hours from being done. Okay while trying to see what meats they have we try ordering a side. We will take the yams. Once again we are told sorry, we don't have yams. All these things, burnt ends, brisket and yams are listed on their website, and in store on their menu sign as options. We end up ordering ribs, pulled pork, fries and smoked Mac and cheese. The website says our food is so good you don't need sauce. Well, apparently, they forgot their own statement. The pulled pork was covered in sauce. The pulled pork was a 3/10 at best. It was mushy, not warm, and lacked smoke. The ribs. Oh, where to start with the ribs. They are ice cold when served. Almost no smoke on them. They are over seasoned and way to salty. Ribs are a generous score of 2/10. However bad the meat was, the sides are great. The fries and smoked Mac and cheese are a solid 9/10. Now it might be that these are not really a 9/10, but compared to bad meats they seemed to be 9/10. The owner is nice. The smoke smells amazing. The atmosphere was nice. But how are you out of brisket at noon when you serve bbq? The smoked meat was underwhelming. You try new places hoping to find a jewel. This was a bottle cap on the floor. Save yourself some time, go to a proven bbq place and enjoy your food. By the way I had a stomach bug later in the day after eating here. Could it have been the food? I cannot prove it.
