This place is legit. Be advised the owner is new to the restaurant industry and is working out the kinks. Arrive with patience in mind. I recommend getting your order to go. Figure out what you want before arriving and expect certain items to be sold out. Have a backup plan if your first choice isn't available. Everything I've tried there is worth recommending. At a lot of barbecue places the pulled pork is either dry or swimming in water. You can tell he pulls this stuff on demand and it isn't just sitting for hours on end in a warming pan. If the owner can streamline the ordering process and improve on availability of menu items, I would give this place a solid 5 stars. read more

HOLY SMOKES Batman! I hade the most amazing spiral sliced smoked ham for my Christmas dinner; it was simply perfection! Not only was it delicious, it was super easy to pick up. I didn't have to stand in a long, slow moving line outside a another retail establishment, in the rain and cold to pick up a ham. I didn't have to tie up my oven for hours to transforming a grocery store ham into a Christmas worthy centerpiece. The Back Deck BBQ ham was the crown jewel for our family's Christmas Feast! This small place has the most amazing food. It wasn't just the meats but the sides are just as amazing! Large potions too. The staff were very friendly and helpful. The place is small with picnic tables to sit inside and outdoor seating but it is so worth it if you have to wait. I can see this place expanding with the quality and quantity of their food. The Food was so nasty. They didn't have half the menu available . My sweet potatoes came with pineapples , that was something new and nasty asf . Corn taste like it's been sitting in detergent water. 1st time going today. The guys really hooked us up. I had the Pull Pork sandwich, and added smoked wings and green beans. Everything was awesome. The Misses had the Burnt End Bomb with Mac and Cheese. Melts in your mouth. Couldn't be happier, and momma takes here BBQ very seriously. Great stuff folks. Each item had a hook for taste. I would say it border lines into soul food BBQ if there is such a thing. I really liked the spices used. Tons of flavor. You should check them out. Be aware that these guys are off the grid. This was my husband's and I first time visiting this establishment we were eager due to all the great reviews unfortunately our experience was NOTHING to rave about. We arrived at 5:33 and didn't leave until 7:20. Let me add we ordered carry out. Let me first start off by saying the wife was nice very friendly and tried her best to talk to everyone to keep the customers distracted. However here are our issues... 1. I totally understand that this establishment is not FAST FOOD however, 2 hours is a little bit on the extreme side 2. By the time we made it on the inside because we were stuck outside for about 20 minutes there was no macaroni and cheese, baked beans, burnt end or yams (well the yams were cooking and after 2 hours they still weren't ready) along with other items 3. Once we were able to order the cashier was not able to assist us when we were ordering what was available (we order 4 orders of ribs which later we found out that was an equivalent to a slab of ribs, and it would save us money to order a slab of ribs. Something I noticed as we waited 45 minutes to an hour for our food) We asked the wife about the rib situation she explained that due to the cashier being busy she simply didn't realize. The husband did refund the money for the ribs. That was nice but that's not what we were asking for we were simply asking a question and weren't upset. 4. Once we did receive our food unfortunately due to me be there since 5:30 and it was 7:20 once we received the food, I didn't double check our food so once we returned home, we didn't receive ALL our food we were missing our wings and banana pudding cheesecake. 5. My husband called the restaurant numerous times however, no one answered the phone, so we had to drive back to the restaurant which is unfortunate because we live off Smyrna Parkway. The owner did give my husband the wings he was nice and friendly however, he no longer had anymore banana pudding cheesecake. What a bummer. He said he would call once he got it back in. The food was good the experience was horrible. My and husband and I will come back it just will not be on the weekend and hopefully the establishment will be fully stocked and fully staffed. I tried this food truck (food bus?) at the local farmer's market and give it my thumbs up. Style: BBQ meats but a mash-up of serving styles such as US southern BBQ meat on top of Tex-Mex nachos. Smoked chicken wings etc. Price: Very good for the serving size. $8-10 for a lunch meal that will serve two people who aren't ravenous or one teenage person during a growth spurt. Flavor: I ordered the shredded chicken nachos and was very happy with the texture and flavor of the chicken, however, I was surprised that the chicken was served closer to room temperature than very hot. I did take a 3 minute drive home with it, but that wasn't time to cool off when other ingredients didn't. I was also surprised a bit that the chicken had BBQ sauce while the nachos were totally Tex-Mex with jalapeños and melted yellow cheese. The result was very yummy but if I had not been a fan of the BBQ sauce, wouldn't have been as tasty. I think I would prefer more straight forward BBQ styles next time. This converted bus serves excellent BBQ they have smoked and seasoned themselves. We were able to get ribs and brisket recently, and everyone loved it. Do not order burnt ends! We were there Friday 5:30 PM, the pork belly burnt ends were hard as a rock, I thought I was biting into a bone! We only found a few soft pieces and we were splitting this meal. When we took it to the guy at the register and told him that these were hard as a rock, he turned around and told the guys preparing the meals to throw away the batch of burnt ends, but did not offer us a substitution or money back. He watched us throw all that away and didn't offer us anything. The fries were good and hot and the green beans were good. The meal was not worth $27 for what you see in the picture. I don't like leaving negative reviews, however, we will not be back! I guess we have been spoiled by the pork belly burnt ends at "Four Pegs" on Goss Avenue. Those are the best in Louisville in my opinion. On google review the owner posted a reply to make things right, but Don't know why the owner posted a reply to contact them. When we are sitting at our desks, thinking about lunch, we can almost smell the sweet, smoky, peppery smell of charred meat, marbled fat and lip smacking sauce. I think about being outside on a perfect spring or summer day. Today I am thinking about BBQ. I'm thinking about BBQ because my co-worker introduced me to Back Deck BBQ food truck this week and after having the Burnt Ends Entrée with two sides, I can't stop thinking about it. In my family, when a new BBQ option is discovered, the first question is "How is the brisket?" Louisville has really good pulled pork BBQ but a shortage of great Beef Brisket BBQ. Prior to Monday, I'd found 1 perfect beef brisket in Louisville. Back Deck BBQ's burnt ends makes two. The marbling vs. protein content was perfect. The smoke rings were perfect. I could've eaten these all day. Chan chuckled as each of my party ordered the burnt ends. We didn't know why. A few minutes later Chan's wife and kids arrived and the first thing she asked was "Are there any burnt ends left?" Chan laughed and explained we just ordered all of the rest. I understand why she was disappointed! I will follow Back Deck around town from now on. I had the Baked Beans and Green Beans which were more than adequate sides. I wanted to try the smoked Mac and Cheese but I have to pace myself on cheat days. I hope at some point Chan puts some greens on the menu, I'd love to try his take on greens. Also the cold drinks...Big Red, Sunkist Orange, Sunkist Grape, Tahitian Treat Fruit Punch...Does it get any more Back Deck than that??? I can't wait to try the wings! And the Smoked Ham!
