It's OK. Meeting my friend Tiffan doesn't give us a lot of options for him to be local. The TVs were somehow not working, nor was the radio, so we were forced to spend 30 bucks on the AMI or TouchTunes music. The beers are relatively priced, I think most for under five dollars, and surprisingly the wonton balls which are kind of an Asian cheese curd was delicious. The chicken eggrolls were too cream cheesy. We came to shoot pool and they have two tables which freed up after about an hour and we took advantage of the dollar games. The ATM was also out or order, but the waitress was nice enough to loan us a few bucks and we threw it back on her tip - but try to bring cash. read more

Back Berner Bar & Grill was exactly what I wanted it to be. I went last night with a friend for a beer and an appetizer (we both ordered a 1/2 pound of the chicken wings). They tasted good and the bill was reasonable. Back Berner won't make you feel like you're put on the back burner--our waitress visited multiple times to check on us even though we didn't make a lot of requests. Sure, the high top chairs were a little wobbly but that's part of the expected scene at a folksy, no frills bar and grill you might find in a buddy road trip movie. Im upset i have to give this review 1 star. Zero stars should be an option. Food was awful and i mean inedible awful. Waitress ask how my meal was as she could see i did not eat more than 1 bite. I explained the fish had a very "off" taste and she very insincerely said sorry. Good was so bad and im super disappointed because we have been there many times since it first opened and this was definitely not the same quality. We wont be returning and wont recommend this place to anyone read more

Had a tournament right next door at City Park, so the team stopped in for lunch. There was plenty of seating for our team and additional family members. There were many fun games to try including; sand volleyball, pool, and darts. The music was a good mix of old and new & there were plenty of tv's surrounding the room. I ordered the traditional hot bone in wings and they were great. I think everyone enjoyed their food and the atmosphere. Service was good. read more

Would not recommend going here service is crappy took over two hrs for someone to ask our table if we wanted to order. Accused me and my family of being disrespectful thieves when we sent back food that was burnt and someone else not paying a tab. When we tried to talk to them about it respectfully they called my pregnant wife and 12yr old kid bitches and scum. As a hardworking family man I find this behavior seriously outrageous. read more

We tried it after seeing mixed reviews online about service and quality of food. The food was actually better than expected. I got the Truffle Mac and Cheese pizza and it was a hit and filling. Everything turned out as we hoped and the service for takeout was very kind. Seems like the bar has plenty of space and activities to keep yourself busy. The only time I rate a restaurant as being "As Good As It Gets".. is if there is something this restaurant provides what no one else does. There is a uniqueness to the menu at the Back Berner. Heck, even the spelling of the name that you want to keep correcting, is unique. This restaurant that looks like an oversized "Road House" from the Patrick Swayze days... has great appeal on the outside so it is easy to find. Its only a 5 minute jog off Interstate 80 to the north. If you care to support local gems like this and bypass the food factories of Iowa City, then this restaurant may just be for you. The inside of this restaurant has an instant feel of revitalization and has an impressive area for large groups or for a restaurant that can serve a ton of tables. It's massive and constructed with a very open feel to it. The bar itself is a "10" if she were a female. I don't know if this is the town watering hole or not, but after my first bite here I will keep returning if I can swing it. First off, on their menu are the basics of pizza, burgers and wings. But what this place offers is a front row seat to "Mac-in-Ology" classes. They offer at least 10 plus dishes that incorporate Macaroni infused with your favorite toppings. The first time I read their menu, I had to ask. WHAT IS THIS?! Why has this never been done before? This is a paradise for those of us who love MAC N CHEESE. Before the novel on that begins, the in house made Mac N Cheese is basic but still reflects the hard work and creative minds that work here - have done their job and will win you over even on the basic order of mac n cheese. You will not want to share this! You have been warned. The other Mac dishes will be shown in images. The one Mac dish I selected was Mac N Rueben. Imagine a corned beef rueben infused with your mac n cheese. The dish is baked in a skillet and is topped with crumblings. All I know is that one bite in, I about fell down. This one meal will be worth me returning every single time here. I have tried the wings here and they are wonderful. They have great salads. And because I came in with a group who was willing to share their food, I was able to sample other mac n cheese infused dishes. There is ZERO reason why this restaurant wasnt on yelp before I came to write about it. But then again maybe this little gem is Iowa's best kept secret. read more

Back Berner is an excellent choice in Tiffin! Their Hawaiian pizza with BBQ sauce is off the charts. My kids love their wings, and their Mac and cheese is incredible. They also offer entertainment such as DJs, live music, trivia, etc. Lots of seating options, indoor and outdoor. read more

The parking lot is a disaster, crumbling concrete and very steep slopes, should has given us an indication of what to expect. Ordered tenderloin and onion rings - tenderloin was huge, but overcooked, onion ring were WAAAAAY undercooked and SOGGY. We also ordered wings and French fries. Wings were ok, lettuce that came with wings looked very old. We ordered carry out and were there in 10 minutes after ordering, so clearly the onions ring# and fries were sitting long before we ordered. Pretty basic skill to deep fry onion rings and fries, but they managed to screw it up. TOO MANY OTHER GREAT OPTIONS IN THE AREA, WE DON'T RECOMMEND. For just a bit more $$ you could get far higher quality food at other places such as Tin Roost - North Liberty. Sad and disappointing way to spend $32. read more

Such an absolute shame because this place could be great. Almost always empty because service is so bad. Went on a Wed (trivia advertised on sign, was none) and had 3 same volleyball courts empty. Couldn't have been over 10 people in entire bar, but took well over 20 mins to get table service and drinks. Only one girl working bar/room but moved with literally no speed or purpose. Pizza took over 30 mins, but was great when it arrived. Shame because this place could be fantastic and packed, but with such horrible service it isn't a shock when it is always empty read more

Went at 7:30 to get food to get told they might only be on fryer food even tho there supposed to be open till nine I ordered nachos with extra cheese to get a small amount of cheese and for them to be cold when I got home I only live up the street from them I shouldn't pay 16 dollars for a nacho for me to get home and them be cold already read more

Great new addition to Tiffin! Food is not just good bar food... it's good food. Macaroni/cheese options are delicious, and my wife had burger which she said was very good. Brussels sprouts side was also tasty and reasonably priced. The music was a little loud, and could use some more diverse beer selection, but overall it's clean with ample seating, friendly service, multiple tv's to watch the game, 2 pool tables + 2 electronic dartboards & a couple video games. read more
