We landed at this spot after long wait times from 2 other restaurants. Walked in and the atmosphere and vibe of the place was pretty cool and chill. They had plenty of seating indoor and on the patio. The 5 of us were starving after a day at the beach and the menu caught us off guard for a bar spot off the freeway. We all had such a hard time deciding what to order because everything sounded so good but everything tasted mediocre. We ordered the charcuterie board for the table, a Caesar salad, turkey blt, Mac and cheese w/ pulled pork, Nashville chicken sandwich, and I had the carne asada tacos w/ parm truffle fries. The charcuterie board -7/10, was good but we have had better and a bigger portion for the price. Carne Asada tacos- 2/10, all I saw was the braised short rib and thought I was in for a mouth full of flavor, but what you get is a soggy mess. Not sure how the tacos became so soggy, I tried to eat 1 taco before I gave up on the plate. The short rib was not tender, it was a tough and on top of that, there was no flavor. The salsa verde didn't add anything, it's suppose to be tangy and zesty and all I tasted was watered down muted parsley. The ingredients just did not compliment each other, when you took a bite, you tasted a little of the cabbage, the salsa, the cotija cheese, and the meat separately. I should of tried the fish tacos. Parm truffle fries- 10/10, this was the only thing I really ate during our meal. They were perfectly crisp and it was a big portion that we took some home and they were still delicious. It came with a Mayo dipping sauce, perfect combo. Mac & cheese- 5/10, was very bland and pulled pork yet again had no flavor or marinade, not even a hint of salt. Had to ask for bbq sauce to try to make it bbq pulled pork Mac and cheese. The Bbq sauce saved his dish. Friend who got Nashville chicken sandwich was so excited at first but expressed how it was an odd spice that didn't not work well. Can't rate the rest of the group's order, but we all discussed how the menu is a catfish lol, we all expected delicious flavorful food and everything was mediocre. Just want to say we have been going there for years, our daughter and family live right up the street. We went t there tonight , 4 adults and 2 children. We were seated, ordered drinks and I believe our waitress s name was Breck, not exactly sure. The kids were going back and forth over what they wanted to drink.. which I assume our waitress didn't appreciate. . Once they decided she brought the drinks and then the next thing we knew, a new waitress came over and stated she was taking over because " Breck" had to leave. Well it seems as though Breck never left, was waiting on other tables. A short time layer I heard our new waitress say" that's ok " I like kids.. my point is .. Back 40 is a FAMILY restaurant so, if you do t want to wait on kids .. go to work at adult restaurant. The waitress that took over was wonderful.. just think management should be aware of this. Children are part of a FAMILY. Sooo To make your customer feel like they are a " problem table" is not cool. so the waitress that took over our table name was Arien, not exactly sure if the spelling but she went over and above to take care of us. Stopped here for some lunch on our way to Veterans Memorial Cemetery. The restaurant itself is situated in a great location. The decor inside is cozy and wide open with a lot of wood features. The service staff here were very friendly and kind enough to go ask any questions we had about some dietary conditions for my group. They made great suggestions about how to change ingredient options on some of the food choices. The food that we got was well seasoned, good portions and very fresh. One of the people in my group got the naan chicken sandwich and she said it was wonderful. The other person in my party and myself got the pulled pork tacos. I highly recommend them. I love this interior of this restaurant. It is very warm and inviting and the staff is extremely friendly. The hostess was nice enough to let my boyfriend and I sit where we wanted. Our waitress was Julia M and she was very nice. We ordered appetizers which were the naked chicken wings and the Tater tots. The chicken wings were very bland and did not have much flavor. They would have been better if they were breaded but we weren't given the option to do so. For entrees we got the meatloaf and the fried chicken and they were delicious but they came out about 5 minutes after or appetizers. Working in the restaurant business I know that there should be a gap between appetizers entrees. Overall it was a good experience but we definitely felt rushed. read more

My son and I randomly stopped here for a late lunch after a tour of a nearby school. The service was fantastic. Everyone we dealt with was very friendly and the food was delicious!!! The chili was unique and had great flavors, mild spice level. Kung Pao chicken tacos were again delicious and had a delightful mix of fresh vegetables. The wings were cooked well and both the buffalo and teriyaki sauces were solid. The tots were excellent as well and came with two different sauces. One was a cheese sauce and the other was an herb aioli. My friend got the Mac n cheese which looked good also. I definitely want to go back to try some of the entrees. It's really big and spacious inside. We visited on a Sunday night around dinner time and got right in. You can't miss the restaurant driving by and they have a big parking lot out back. I've been to Back 40 a number of times now and have really enjoyed it. I held off on going due to bad reviews and after they had the quick closing but after deciding to finally give it a try, I'm glad I did. First off, the space is beautiful. I know it took a long time for them to open while they did renovations but that time was clearly well spent. I love the wide open floor plan and the farm to table vibe. The staff have all been very friendly and personable which is always important. I've tried a few things on the menu and they've all been good. The Mac 'n Cheese was great and had a really tasty cheese sauce, the meatloaf was delicious and the pulled pork sandwich was awesome. There's also a nice beer list with a lot of regional offerings; some great IPA's and some sours on there as well. I understand the initial reviews of this place weren't very good but I think there's a lot to be said of a place that can take that criticism, turn around and make the improvements necessary. I am glad I finally gave it a try and look forward to return visits to see this place continue to progress. read more

I have been here a few times now because I love the drinks and food. I have had brunch, the eggs Benedict and a meal, the Kung Pao chicken, both delicious. The other people I was with reviewed the food as awesome too. The amount is worth the money! The Mimosa flight is awesome and so are the alcoholic coffee drinks. I got the arugula salad with goat cheese/pistachios/raisins/brussel sprouts, which said it came with "roasted winter vegetables".. but there was only 1 small cube of squash. Besides that, I loved the salad! My boyfriend got the mac-n-cheese with pulled pork; he liked it and ate the whole thing, but the menu said it had crushed crackers/some sort of crunchy topping.. which it didn't come out with. We shared the donut dessert and chocolate cake dessert with the couple we were with, and the chocolate dessert was delicious! My boyfriend thought the beer prices were very over priced, especially compared to the local restaurants. We originally planned on going back to Gansett for diner, but family from near by MA decided to meet us so we hit this place because it was there. The food was awesome as well as the specialty cocktails my wife ordered. Everyone was really happy with the food. The service was also top notch and it's got a fun and cozy atmosphere. I'm so bummed out about this place. We've been there twice now, hoping to give this place a real shot. The exterior is beautiful but the interior is noisy, filled with flies and feels like a cafeteria. My husband and I first tried this place last week and didn't think it was THAT bad, but there were definitely issues. The biggest being the food. Firstly, the meal wasn't served as described in the menu. The menu said the cauliflower steak would be served on rice and it came out on mashed potatoes. Tonight, my husband ordered the cauliflower steak and it was served on rice. So the consistency is horrible. I got the salmon and it was actually awful. The salmon was edible but fatty, and the rice was served in a watery broth. My dad was with us and he ordered the lobster Mac and cheese which is definitely made with velveeta or some very similar "boxed cheese sauce" and has the tiniest amount of lobster plopped in the middle. We won't be going back unfortunately. This place needs a far better cooking staff. read more
