Pappardelle al Sugo D'Agnello

Went here for date night and everything was pristine. The Scampi in Lobster Sauce was so delicious, just perfect for me. The service was also very refreshing. Our waiter knew the specials by heart and was capable in answering any questions we had about the menu. Before the meal was even complete we knew we would be back again.

Wow! Amazing! Everything we got tasted so great. We sat on the patio (which is covered) seems like that's where they put the ones with kids- which was us, haha! Restaurant is beautiful, and the patio was very nice with fountains and plants. Our waiter was very nice, informative and attentive. Everyone always made sure our plates were cleared or our water was full. Now for the food, we got the gnocchi quatro formaggi sooo delicious that sauces was amazing, my husband got the shrimp scampi- which was delicious as we well and then we split the filet mignon- cooked to perfection, our bottle of wine paired perfectly. Ended the night with the tiramisu! We will definitely be back!

I've lived in San Diego since 1984 and had never been to Baci -- BIG mistake. Fortunately, I was able to rectify this mistake when a friend invited me to join him for dinner at Baci a few weeks ago. We sat in the booth to the left of the front door which was perfect for people watching. We enjoyed some Scotch to start, ordered some bread and calamari for apps, then our mains. I had freshly made pasta with lobster and shrimp (excellent) and I can't remember what my friend had, but he really enjoyed it. In the it's-a-small-world department, another friend of mine showed up with his family to celebrate his birthday -- he's usually a Mr. A's guy, but Baci was calling his name. They had a blast. Although I didn't go vegan this time (OK, so I'm an occasional pescatarian), I appreciate that Baci will make many of their dishes vegan, which means I can bring my wife next time. And there WILL be a next time -- and a next!

A fun evening with our dear neighbors

Lunch with neighbors. Lunch only serves Thursday and Friday and is the same menu as the dinner menu so be prepared for pricey food. The old school waiters treat you right here and keep the water glasses feed and treat you like family. I chose to share a Caesar salad with added anchovies and it was on point with lots of garlic and zing. I asked the waiter to recommend a pasta and he said the seafood pasta was a Sicilian dish and the owners are Sicilian so that's what I ordered. It had lots of mussels and clams and calamari and fish and I managed to eat half of it and saves the remainder for dinner. I brought some of their garlic bread home to sop up the rich tomato sauce. I don't want to miss a drop! Parking is tight and we parked a few blocks away but who doesn't need a walk after a rich meal. Glad this place is still open. Same old menu and same great service and Italian cuisine. Makes me feel like I'm eating at their home!

The service is attentive, professional and all of it has a vintage 1995 feel to it.. This place has been around for a while. The food: the dressing on the caesar salad was nice and anchovy-y, we appreciate the kitchen for splitting it. The Octopus was smothered in pesto, while being tender I can taste acrid smoke without the crisp texture that fire should add. It was off putting. The chicken parm was a highlight. Pounded thin with a light breading a perfect showing of an old classic. The ravioli special was filled with braised beef in a cream sauce. They have a display of awards circa1990's printed plates on the walls from their hay-day I get the feeling that this pace was about as good as it gets for San Diego during the early years of the Clinton Administration. and they have managed to maintain a certain polish without feeling dusty. I grew up an Italian neighborhood in NJ and this place is an odd time capsule to find in Southern California. A decent 90's Italian place frozen in its prime. If you are looking for that, this place delivers an authentic experience. All in all while there was nothing wholesale wrong, there was also nothing memorable for me here.

This is a lovely, cozy dining spot. The service is excellent, and the food is delicious. We had a reservation but still had to wait a bit, so we decided to go to the bar area for a drink. Once our table was ready, they transferred us there. I had a great time there.

I've been looking for a good Italian restaurant that serves linguine and clams. I found it. This place serves the best linguini and clams since I had them in Sicily. The Manila clams were plentiful and fresh. The sauce was must perfect. Oh the Ceasar salad, well, that's amazing as well! I love the crispy bacon. Wow! Amazing! The service was excellent. I definitely will come back here even though there's more red light dishes. I need to look for Thinsulin approved, green light dishes the next time I come.

When people think of amazing Italian here, they usually think of Little Italy, but I think of this amazing hidden gem in Bay Park. The ambience is old school, quiet, and reserved. The menu is small and straightforward. To start, there's complimentary bread and it's always so fresh and garlicky. My fav appetizer is their beef carpaccio. The capers and arugula keep it light. As mains, the osso buco is hands down my fav. It's so tender and a giant portion. The rice or risotto (?) underneath is seasoned so well. Plus, there's even bone marrow. I haven't had any bad desserts from here and their dessert cocktails are so delicious. The service is always so attentive and it's the perfect date night spot or special family dinner place. There's valet and street parking available. Easily my fav italian spot in SD.

I really have been suffering from FOMO until coming here for our anniversary dinner. This place is more on the fine dining end. I hear a bit older but still the food is wonderful and not overly expensive like other bougie restaurants these days. The only issue is parking and you better have a reservation. I wouldn't show up to this place is T-shirt jeans and sandals lol. The Caesar salad was incredible I didn't think a simple salad such as that could be made that good. My husband had pretty much linguine and clams/ mussels with red sauce and the lobster with linguine clams. Seafood was absolutely fresh and topped off the dinner with a cannoli. Overall a very pleasant experience and would come back to enjoy more dishes in the future.

Ask the Community - Baci Ristorante

Is this restaurant dog friendly?

I'm not sure, but I don't think so - to get to the patio - you need to go through the restaurant.

Is there a dress code?

No. It is very casual

How is the parking, is there a parking lot for the restaurant?

There is some parking along the street and in the back of the restaurant. There is also valet at the front for $5, valeting is a lot more convenient.

Is this a quiet restaurant?

When I was there is was. It is delightful. We had great Italian-style prepared seafood and the waiters were very attentive. And did I say the martinis were fab too ?!😀🍸

Was this restaurant previously located in the Gaslamp about 6 years ago?

Not that I know of I've been eating here 28 yrs

How fancy of a place is this? I'd like to make sure this can be good for semi formal dress for a date

it could work for that. It is not the fanciest place in San Diego, but it is upscale enough and very correct with solicitous waiters. It is a very correct place, upscale place, not formica lunchroom. It is not as fancy as Mr. A or Westgate, but it… Read more

Has anyone brought or seen kids/babies here?

I don't think it's the right atmosphere for kids or babies. More of an intimate setting.

Can some one tell me what are the price ranges please??

I'd say the average is $25 a plate. Pasta will be less, proteins will up to $40.

One seated, we were approach to get beverages ordered, and informed that our assigned server would take over to get our food orders. The menu consisted of authentic Italian appetizers and meals. The ability to learn about different types of noodles, and select for our meals, added to the experience. In addition to noodle selections, we were also able to select the sauces that would accompany the dish. They all sounded unique and delicious. The Impepata di COZZE was our appetizer selection and had fresh mussels, white wine and garlic amongst other fresh ingredients. Serving size was more than enough for our party of 2, and was not able to finish in anticipation of our meals. For my meal, I ordered the Malfalde pasta with Funghi sauce. Sauce consisted of creamy fresh Cremini, shiitake & Porcini mushrooms, parmigiano, crispy Parmigiano, crumble, parsley. Added shrimp to complete the meal. Mafalde pasta was long and had a ribbon appearance similar to lasagna noodles. The ingredients spoke for themselves. Freshness throughout each and every bite! Will definitely return the next time. I'm in the San Diego area. The bar for Italian cuisine has been raised substantially!!!

Restaurants and bars filled to the brim. Lack of street parking availability. With that being said, after circling around for a while, I found a free parking spot on the street five minutes away by foot. Ambiance (4/5): While Bencotto has a nice interior, I went with some al fresco dining on their front patio. There are 20 or so seats available right off the street, so it's not a large patio by any means, but it's nice. The weather was a little chilly by San Diego standards, so they had some heaters out there. It always reminds me of Europe when I'm dining al fresco. Service (3/5): A little slow at times, but overall, pretty good. My waiter was friendly, he just could have stopped by a little quicker. Still solid though. Drinks (4/5): They have a nice selection of wine. I ended up rolling with an Italian beer I had never had before instead. It was a lager and they served it with a chilled glass which is always a nice touch. Food (4/5): The reason I came delivered. Their most popular entree is pasta cooked in a cheese wheel. The pasta is in a creamy truffle sauce with mushrooms. No protein but you can add some for an additional charge. I added grilled chicken. What's awesome about this dish is that they cook it for you inside by the hostess stand. So you can go there and see it happening. My server didn't give me a heads-up (shame on him) but luckily, someone at a table close to me did after me, so I joined to see their food being prepared. I also ordered the gnocco frito which is puffy fried bread. You get four pieces and I had never had this type of Italian bread. Not amazing, but it complemented the pasta well. All of their pasta is made in house and you can taste the difference. The cheese wheel pasta was absolutely delicious. I was pumped to cross this bucket list item off my list.

One thing we learned: if you decide to make a reservation here, especially on a weekend night, arrive early to accommodate the time it takes to find parking. The restaurant does not have its own parking lot, it's street parking-only and space is tough to come by. We circled around for at least 15 minutes before securing a spot and wound up a little over 20 minutes late for our reservation. Thankfully, we still had a table set up and waiting for us. It was very busy when we walked in, it appeared as though the restaurant was near-capacity. The restaurant has a nice, rustic charm to it, but I'll admit some of the charm is taken away by the crowd of noisy people. The restaurant space is small with as many tables and chairs that can possibly fit, which inevitably means tables are very close to one another. It would help if the restaurant acquired a much larger space, or if it got rid of maybe 30% of the tables/chairs so that seating could be more spaced-out. Service was initially slow, but understandable considering the completely packed venue. Our servers were incredibly friendly and provided exceptional service. They were patient and informative in answering our questions (particularly about the "cheese wheel"). We ordered the house specialty bread with 3 different spreads as an appetizer, the lamb shank was my date's entree choice while I ordered the pappardelle pasta with short rib. The bread was truly excellent, we both devoured it. My dish was also excellent, the short rib was very rich and flavorful and the pasta was cooked well. I tasted my date's lamb dish, which I felt was bland compared to mine and I wasn't crazy about it. My date seemed to enjoy it, though. We were too full to order any dessert, so I can't speak for their desserts. The food I did try was mostly amazing. We will likely be back, although we might try coming on a Monday or Tuesday night to avoid the crowds and have an easier time with parking.
