This typical casual restaurant on a side street with just foot traffic is a great place to stop and have a meal. It's just across the river from the Turtle fountain but still in Trastevere and not far from the magnificent church to the Madonna of Trastevere. This church claims to be the first church in Italy built in honor of Mary. This claim is contested by Santa Maria Maggiore. Oh well... The food is very good, the price is right and the beer selection is amazing. The TV is on at the bar for sports enthusiasts. I recommend the lasagna and the carbonara... both excellent. The staff speak English and the bathroom is clean. Relax, they don't rush you and you are free to just sit and people watch. read more

This place is tuck away in an alley full of bars in the Trastevere neighborhood of Rome (which some say is one of more American friendly neighborhoods of Rome and I would agree with that). This place is more of an Italian sports bar than evident by the amount of people who were watching the soccer game. They also have a vast amount of beers on tap and drinks period, all for a good price (try the frozen green Jamaica). As for the food itself, I had a starter of their roasted chicken wings. It was actually really good, cooked well done, and yeah are some really good non-fried wings. For my meal I had the tagilanti (I think that's how it's spelled). It's basically spaghetti with smaller fettuccine noodles. It wasn't bad, but I had better. Overall I liked the place and the waitress here spoke multiple languages fluently and that helped a lot in the process. I would come back, especially for drinks. read more

Stumbled across this place while walking through Trastevere in the afternoon. Kind of stood out as having a pub atmosphere in a sea of touristy restaurants. We had a few pints and decided to eat as well. We weren't expecting much as we just wanted something to help take up the space and help save us from the pints, but were pleasantly surprised. The owner (I think) was working as staff and was constantly concerned with what we may need, either watching us or asking us when appropriate. We came across this restaurant on our way to Santa Maria church. With only 4 tables curb side, we were fortunate enough to get a table for two on their small patio. Our waitress was warm and giggled as we butchered ordering our food in Italian. For $10€ you got: bruschetta, pop (or wine, or beer, or water) and either a pasta (choice of 8 different kinds) or pizza ( choice of 10 different kinds). For an additional $2€ you could upgrade your glass of wine to a 1/4 litre. The food was excellent....the pasta was fantastic (it was a tomato base with bacon) Although a tiny patio, we were never rushed and were not bothered by street vendors at all. I was in Roma for a month studying abroad, this sweet spot was about 5 minutes from my apartment. The food is decent, fantastic chicken skewers. Very large meat portion, which is rare in Roma. I only ate here a couple times, but me and my roommates made it a routine to start our going out nights here. The drink list is truly overwhelming. Lost one star only because the food wasn't totally "wow!", But what can one expect from a 12 euro prix fixe menu at an Italian pub. It's located near Santa Maria plaza in Rome's Trastevere neighborhood, which is way less crowded with tourists and quieter. We came for lunch and had no trouble getting seats inside the air conditioned pub. I ordered a red wine (if you get a 1/4 lt jug gotta add 2 euros) and a vegan bruschetta appetizer, which was so-so since the bread was fresh but the tomatoes weren't cooked or flavored enough, and the vegetable soup/zuppa. Yes, food and drink menus are in English. The vegetable soup contains no pasta, but very thick since potato based and has cheese. I asked for a no cheese version. It also comes with the same bread as they used for bruschetta. My partner ordered the 4 cheeses gnocchi, which he said was better than the ones he's had in Toronto, Canada. Serving sizes are smaller than at a ristorante, but everything is heavy so no problem feeling satiated. Friendly and moderately fast service too! Do recommend this place if looking for cheaper, fast eats and a place to sit down inside. read more

I probably couldn't find this place WITH instructions. Fortunately I targeted the Trastevere Area during a short trip to Rome, Italy and happened across this little gem of a bar. Fun, local, quaint, charming, small, secluded. Lucky hit considering the way that everything is spread out in Trastevere. Must visit for drinks. They specialize in pitchers of Mojitos, Caipirinos and similar with lots of muddled fresh fruit. Cold beer too! read more

The guy that was there at first was super nice spoke English very well and joked around with us. He left, the other lady that came in after him wasn't very nice to us didn't ask us if we wanted anything more we ever had to ask her for our check. The other bar tender was also very nice to us. This is the only place you need to go eat for your whole vacation in Italy! It has the best food there, and PLUS its a great bar! Everyone who works there are very friendly and speak english for all the tourists out there. Its a bit of a walk from the main part of Rome, but i think it's worth every step. They have a bruschetta menu, a pasta menu, pizza menu, huge salad menu, f*ucking amazing mojitos and beer. It's really an establishment that cannot be beat by taste. it's the ultimate lounge, dive bar and restaurant all combined. Loved this bar/restaurant in Trastevere. The waiters are welcoming and very friendly, speaking to us in English even when greeting them with our basic Italian. We sat inside since the only four tables outside were occupied. We would have rather eaten inside anyway since the outside tables were too close to the throng of tourists walking past. The inside seating is in the back past the bar which was quite cozy in the dim lighting ambience. Baccanale provided three different set meal options, as well as regular menu items. We ordered off the first menu set which was your choice of pasta, drink, and bruschetta for 10€. The other set meal options was pizza (10€) or meat/seafood meals (16€) with drink and bruschetta. The carbonara was TO DIE FOR!! why why why don't they have this authentic roman dish in Houston? If we do, someone tell me where!!!?? So sad this was our last day in Rome. This little bar/restaurant was heaven sent for us. We stayed around the corner in Trastevere and ate here 4 times! Each time we had had something different; from the carbonara to the ravioli, the diavola pizza to the gnocchi, it was all delicious. The first time here we ordered the meats and cheese plate as an appetizer and it was pretty amazing. The price is great: 10 euros gets you a glass of wine or water or soda plus bruschetta and either pizza or pasta. Portions are big enough to be filling during lunch or dinner. Both nights we stopped by for the soccer game and drinks and had a good time. For being a little place on a side street it sure exceeded our expectations! If you are reading correctly, you should not visit this place. Went with a party of 4 and the service was totally fine however a hamburger was ordered and was terrible. Pizza was fine but at the end they demanded cash payment. We had to walk to blocks and back to an ATM to fulfill this cash requirement. The hostess mentioned the credit card machine was broken for several days, WHY IS IT "BROKEN"??? There are many many better places in the area you should go to. Came across this looking for another restaurant recommended in a guide book - the one we were looking for was closed. We had the 10Euro menu comprising of fab bruschetta, pasta or pizza and a drink (Peroni or soft drink or a coffee). We ended up staying for three hours and having a few more drinks/coffee as the service was warm and friendly and the atmosphere was traditional and relaxing. A lovely evening out. The deal here was pretty standard for the area - €12 for bruschetta with tomato, a main course and a drink. The bruschetta was lovely, but nothing else was up to standard. I had the carbonara; my mum's is better, which when comparing an English mother to an Italian restaurant is quite damning. My partner had a pizza which he compared to Pizza Express back in England. The wine tasted like vinegar and had to be drunk quickly to be tolerated. The service was also lacking. Tough to waste last night in Rome on pub grub. Frozen pizza was to die for. East Coast US service was over the top.

I should've known better than to trust American reviewers for places to eat in Rome but my wife wanted Carbonara for dinner & we noticed that this place had a decent rating, that it was in our price range ($$), & one of the reviewers bragged about how good this particular dish was. Granted, we were hesitant to eat at a pub but given the praise by the reviewers & the great quality of pubs in both of our hometowns, we thought what the hell. Words cannot describe our disappointment in the food. The simple salads were decent enough (it's difficult to screw up chopped lettuce (possibly bagged), Brie, walnuts & honey), but our main dishes were absolutely terrible. I took the lasagna, which was just a greasy reheated mess & my wife took the Carbonara, which had a ridiculous amount of black pepper that overpowered the mediocre sauce & the artichokes clearly came from a can (in Italy!). We didn't expect a 3 Michelin star restaurant but we ate at cheaper & simarly priced restaurants around Rome & even the same area that were superior in every way. We should've taken the advice of the reviewer from Amsterdam, but we made the mistake of going with the consensus. He said that this place may be alright for drinks & the Italian beer that we had was decent enough & the atmosphere was upbeat, but the food is probably some of the worst in the neighborhood & you'd have to drink quite a bit of said beverage to stomach it.
