Got to where I was eating it twice a week. 3rd visit in she recognized me and asked me if I wanted MY USUAL. That alone has to be a crime! They also accept constructive criticism (which undoubtedly is few and far between) with more grace than I have seen anyone in 39 years. Came in today and tried the steak and cheese sandwich. Two years later and this is still by favorite restaurant in the Richmond / Lexington area, by far. Unfortunately, the dinner platter for 2 has changed and isn't listed on the menu anymore. My husband and I still order it, though. We're regulars and they know what we want (the same thing we've wanted for three years or so, when we first discovered how amazing Babylon is!), so they put it together for us and ring it up accordingly. It's more expensive now, but still an amazing value. We always have enough left over for lunch the following day. The staff is extremely friendly. One time, we brought friends with us and they ordered several items on the menu. The girl at the checkout counter said, "That's too much food! You don't need to order that much unless you're planning meals to go." Their portion sizes are large, so she was definitely right. Our friends appreciated the honesty and even after taking a few things off their order, had plenty to take home for an additional meal. We love introducing people to this place! Everything is amazing. The hummus is to die for. I could seriously eat it every day and always order extra. We eat there a few times a month and our takeout order has only been wrong one time (and the only mistake was that she forgot to include the pita). She realized her mistake and the next time we came in we were treated to free baklava to make up for it. It was such a minor thing that we didn't even bring it up; she just remembered. Babylon is my go-to for Mediterranean food in Richmond! Their steak and cheese is to die for! The staff is always great and they remember who you are and what you order. Be sure to try some of the baklava; my mouth is watering just thinking about it! The steak and cheese gyro is served with fries and taziki sauce. The taziki sauce is always so fresh tasting. Just had take out we got the chicken platter it was delicious lots of hummus and the chicken was nice and tender not too spicy or anything and we liked the rice too. The salad was very surprising came with lots of tomato and olives and vinegar eye dressing it was really good, crispy fresh, and tasty . The chicken and rice also was so good with the added tomato's and onions thinly sliced added a flavorful touch . We will definitely be back and the personnel were very nice also oh and the pita bread was thick and tasty we really enjoyed the meals my wife even said we will go back! One of my all time favorite places in Richmond to eat! They give you sooo much delicious food for a very good price. Very friendly people, great service. My favorite is their Gyro dinner meal with rice which comes with a gyro, tons of rice, and a greek salad. I also love the baklava and i always use a ton of tsatziki sauce. I used to work around the corner and the incredible smells wafting from Babylon frequently drew me to their doors. The people working are incredibly friendly and service is quick. I love the hummus and chicken but everything is really, really tasty. Two very minor things keep me from a 5 star review. First, there are times when onions can overpower the dish and since I'm not a fan of raw onions, even taking them off isn't enough to get past. Second, the salad tends to be overdressed and a little soggy. Neither of these is enough to keep me away whenever I go back to town. read more

I understand people don't have a lot of options in Greek cuisine around here, but this menu leans towards middle eastern food then it does Greek, and so do the flavors. Also customer service was lousy made me feel like I was putting them out trying to be a customer. Gyro meat was grossly grisly to the point that ends of the meat had a crunch, more so than the lettuce and skimpy with the sauce and the pita was the opposite of soft. Excellent hummus and falafels! I highly recommend trying them both. I tried the gyros platter with lamb/beef and rice and it was also good. My friends ordered the chicken; however, and I believe it was a little better than the beef/lamb. The chicken was extremely flavorful and had a kick to it! Don't judge it by the appearance. 2 of our group ordered the gyros combos LOTS of meat and nice and crispy fries. Gyro rice bowl came with hummus, tomatoes,olives, pickles and onions. VERY large (enough to share). The last item was the Lite gyro bowl on hummus. It too was very large and would make a nice appetizer for 4-6 or enough to split between 2. If you're looking for ambience go to a chain restaurant, if you're looking for phenomenal food and service on every visit, then this is the place to go! Stopped in on the way home from a long trip and glad we did. It's a small place, took maybe 15 minutes to get our order. The food was fresh and hot. We got the gyro and falafel, both were great. They bring out the taz sauce in a squeeze bottle so you can you add as much as you'd like. The sauce is some of the best I've had and the fries had a nice seasoning on them. You never really expect to find a taste of the Mediterranean in the middle of Kentucky. But if you're going to be salivating over shawarma, you can get a satisfying fix in Richmond with the Babylon Cafe. I believe it was formally known as Babylon Gyros when it opened but has expanded its space and menu. To start, as a disclaimer, I went between a three and four star with Babylon. This is because while it good Mediterranean food in Richmond, it also stands alone with no comparable competition. For this fact alone, I would give it a three. You can go up the road to Lexington and probably try a few places to compare. Variety is the spice of life, and with Mediterranean food it makes all the difference with subtle nuances of recipe and presentation. Note that this is great (and arguably four stars) for Richmond, but you have to keep some perspective. The decor is quiet and, upon entrance, almost feels like you've stepped into a small coffee cafe. Brush that aside and make your way back to the counter to see a chalkboard with all the goods on it. The prices is decent for what you get and you would be hard-pressed to find a better lunch combo in downtown Richmond. Your dollars go a long way here. The service is pretty fast since you order at the counter and they bring it out to your table. We went with the falafel sandwich, the falafel lunch combo, and lentil soup. The falafel sandwich was wrapped up really nice and warm! I had to peel back a few layers and discovered that it was more like a falafel taco than a wrapped up sandwich. This automatically forces you to either eat it out of the wrapper or open that present and get a little messy. The falafel was moist and had a great, iconic crispness to it. Couple that with the tzatziki sauce, delicious. The lentil soup with pita was warm and had the right amount of kick to it, no doubt very filling too. The lunch combo came with a falafel sandwich, some rice, and what looked to be Greek salad. There was plenty of eats on the plate and it was just right for the price. All good things, but there is some dysfunction. Since their expansion, their adjacent dining area kind of throws off the atmosphere of Babylon Cafe. One side is quiet, cool, and muted, while the other aspires to take you to the Mediterranean with its bright greens and baby blues. The expanded side also serves as a delivery entrance, so it was kind of a bummer when they were receiving stock while we were sitting right there. In the summer it would've been no problem, but it was still chilly and getting hit by a wave of cool air every time the door opened wasn't that desirable. In these regards, some improvements can be made. Overall though, Babylon Cafe does make some great Mediterranean food and it is something to really be appreciated by a small town like Richmond. Now you don't have to travel to the fertile crescent, Babylon Cafe brings the goods to you. read more
