Here much too often, I can say that much (or maybe, not often enough)! Everyone from the front door greeter to the bartenders are incredible. It gets super crowded and noisy in here on weekends, so be sure to plan ahead! I look forward to seeing what their seasonal drinks are (aka, new menu every few months), even though I'm heartbroken when I become too attached to a certain cocktail. Thanks to instagram I was able to experience this hidden retro bar. The bar is small and we were nervous to not find seats based on Yelp reviews but we came right before the crowd starting coming in on a Sunday. The cocktails are amazing and elegantly made. STEPH JUDGEMENT: Cool, kitschy spot for cocktails. Been wanting to try this place for months and finally got it together on a Friday night. I use the term "night" loosely--it was like 7pm. Good thing we got there early, though, as there were only a couple of bar seats left. The decor is 70s artsy grandma-chic, with all kinds of fun knickknacks all over the place. They had quite a list of cocktails to choose from, and we tried: Baby Gee and T (light and refreshing), Ain't Misbehavin (good, but I think it was on a bit of the sweet side for me), Pang Wangle (our favorite--complex and not too sweet). We also tried their Sikil Pak (puréed pumpkin seed dip) and chips to snack on and it was delish! The bartender was very friendly and didn't mind our questions about the various drinks. Love this bar! There's dim lighting with bar seats and tables. We came on a Thursday night and it was fairly busy. Definitely room to move and easily get a drink at the bar, but most seats were taken. Luckily, we were able to get a table in the back that sat the 5 of us. I didn't try any of their cocktails, but another girl at the bar recommended their mezcal and tequila drinks. I'm not big on tequila and wasn't feeling hard alcohol so I went with an orange wine they had. It was so good! Not only do they have a great atmosphere and ample drink selection but there's a food menu! We kept smelling them making the pizza (but more like a flatbread) as the oven was on the same side of the bar as our table. The kitchen is open until 1130 so I couldn't help but order the white mushroom pizza that everyone was talking about. It was delicious! I want to try their burrata and olive pizza next time. This is a great addition to 4th street! It's the perfect balance of swanky and divey with kind employees and a good crowd. Outstanding, you must absolutely go to this place. It would be a 5 star if there was comfortable places to sit and the music was at a level where you could converse easily (but that's a personal preference). As a bartender/goer for decades, the cocktail menu here was a revelation. Literally, some of the most innovative cocktails I've seen in a very very long time. Baby Gee is my favorite neighborhood hangout. It's low key but still hip and cool, filled with dim red lighting, art deco era bar stools and comfy couches. They're a full bar with wine, beer and spirit offerings but you definitely need to order one of their fun cocktails from the ever-changing seasonal menu. Sometimes I do wish that they didn't change out the menu so often or at least kept more of it around because I get attached to a drink and it will be gone. They have a few small bites, namely their flatbread pizza, and a few items that seem to rotate out like a meatball sandwich. Come here for some great drinks and a chill hang with friends! read more

I was recommended Baby Gee Bar and was really looking forward to checking it out. The place itself has a cool vibe and aesthetic, definitely a spot that catches your eye. The staff was friendly and welcoming, which I appreciated.Unfortunately, the drinks were disappointing. Each cocktail was around $18-$20, and while I understand bars can be pricey, the value just wasn't there. The drinks came with huge ice cubes that took up most of the glass, felt like I got maybe a shot's worth of liquid. One drink had barely any flavor, and the other had all the liquor and "flavoring" settled at the bottom, making it hard to enjoy. I ended up spending about $40 for two underwhelming drinks. I really wanted to have a good experience because the place looks great and has potential, but the drinks just didn't live up to the hype. I wouldn't recommend it based on my visit. read more

I waited at the bar for 15 minutes without being acknowledged or served, despite there being bartenders present. No one offered assistance or even acknowledged my presence, which is unacceptable for any establishment that values customer service. So, of all of the myriad places I've needed to write reviews of over the past few months, this is probably the *silliest* that I still haven't until now, given how excited I was when they opened, excited enough that I was at their opening day (they were *extremely* well prepared, even opening day.) I've now been here a bunch, and have tried at least a majority of the cocktails on both of their current cocktail menus (though I'm not going to list any specific cocktails from either of them, because they're about to completely change their cocktail menu again, only a few months after the previous "refresh". This isn't a place to get attached to any particular cocktail, as it's clear their - rather ambitious - goal is to rotate basically everything seasonally.) But everything I've tried has been wonderful - exactly the sort of boundary-pushing craft cocktail bar Long Beach has needed more of, and the sort of craft that does justify their admittedly not-cheap cocktails prices. (Of particular note - each menu so far has had one really interesting novel martini variation that's been a lot of fun.) Admittedly, for good and bad, to get cocktails this complex while keeping up sufficient speed to deal with the *very* busy that they absolutely always are, they do have to pre-batch the majority of them - which I do wish they'd be slightly clearer about (last time I was there, I overheard a bartender just telling someone "no substitutions", which makes more sense when it's a logistical issue rather than just sounding pretentious, haha.) I have *wished* I could play around a little more with some of them, but that's the trade-off with having cocktails with that many complicated ingredients while catering to a whole bar's worth of people, so they can focus on still definitely having the perfect ice, the perfect glass, the perfect garnish, etc, for each drink, which as a huge cocktail nerd, I appreciate the attention to detail. (And they do also have a pretty substantial spirit list, and bartenders that all definitely know what they're doing, so they can obviously also make perfect renditions of plenty of classics, etc.) They are always busy, though I've generally gotten lucky and found at least one seat at the bar - and I have always gotten orders and drinks pretty quickly despite them always having plenty of business. All great people, too - but if you want a place where you can sit and chat with the bartender for long periods of time... deservedly, word's gotten out a bit too much for that here, generally speaking. As far as food, overall, I'd say - it's good, but it's not why you're here. The pizzas are $12 for just cheese - the time I tried a pizza, I ended up with a $17 personal pizza, after adding meat, Calabrian peppers and spicy honey. It *was* quite good, but it was also definitely a personal pizza. They're solid, I could just get a huge (also great) pizza from 4th Horseman for only a little more than that. On the other hand, if you're here during happy hour (currently 5-7 weekdays), they have a great deal as far as snacks: complimentary tasty popcorn, and $4 delicious hot dogs on great bread. I do also strongly recommend the Calabrian chili paste for $2 if you like peppers, both as a topping for the pizza, and especially as a topping on your happy hour hot dog. ($6 a craft hot dog with fresh Calabrian pepper paste - still a pretty good deal.) They also always have house-pickled vegetables of the day for $5, which make a pretty good snack (or garnish for a hot dog, especially in the case of the beans I had recently.) I personally wish they had *spicy* pickled vegetables, but that's because I'm weird - they're solid pickled veggies, and go great with a variety of drinks (especially the more martini-ish ones.) Interestingly, their happy hour also includes a $10 "drink of the day", which I had assumed was one arbitrary drink from the current menu. It is not - it is one off-menu bartender's choice drink, which from current experience will be just as complex as the menu drinks, but even more short-lived. Indeed, when I was there last Friday during happy hour, by the time I left, the "drink of the day" had already changed at least once, making it at least somewhat of a misnomer - I tried two different "drinks of the day" on Friday, one a very fall-spice-tinged tiki-style tequila drink, the other a chocolate-orangey espresso martini variant with a base of aquavit and Fernet. Both quite good. Wouldn't hesitate to get whatever was the "of the day" anytime I was there during happy hour. Anyway, other than the happy hour drink, their menu cocktails are currently around $13-16 - I miss pre-covid Long Beach, where you were a lot more likely to see whole-menu happy hour prices, but those prices are unfortunately very reasonable at this point - drinks this complex and this *quality* in DTLA would probably all be $20, at least. So I have no real complaints. Can't wait to see their next "refreshed" menu next week! read more

My review isn't necessarily about the drinks/food--In fact, I come here often because I like the food and cocktails. BUT an interaction I had last night that felt really off. Not really sure if this bar is queer friendly, so beware if you fit under that umbrella. I was with a group of gay men, it was packed because they were closing out their old menu so drinks were $10 all night. There was a man that was sitting by himself and guarding one of the only areas of seating, we waited a good 20 minutes before all 5 of us took a seat. This guy tells us he has friends coming and we tell him we understand but its a crowded bar and you can't save seats for close to a half an hour. I fear this is common sense but eventually his 2 friends come over, theres definitely room for all of us to sit as long as we're courteous and not man-spreading but as soon as his friends walk up he aggressively yells and gets in my friends face to say "get the fuck out of the seat" --My friend gets up instantly. Like I said he's a gay man and a straight dude using his body and voice as a source of intimidation unfortunately works. but he knew that, that was the point. The volume and aggressive nature of how he yelled at my friend coupled with the fact that the bouncer at the door caught this entire interaction and did nothing made me think; maybe we're in enemy territory here. I've never felt that way before but it was really bad altercation. Not sure, if its a space that caters to infantile entitled men who need to be babied or if its truly an anti-LGBTQ+ deal but I've never experienced something like this at stache, tokyo noir, or v room and know if someone yelled at that volume/that aggressively this wouldn't of flown at those bars...but it was apparently ok at Baby Gee. So I guess my reasoning is: could be a place MAGA misogynist hangout at and are welcomed with open arms to behave in any manner they please or just an off night since cocktails were only $10 (maybe brought out an odd crowd) but still really disappointing to have a bar that makes drink specials when its pride week have patrons behave this way in front of the bouncer and leave it unchecked. read more
