I've used Baby Diaper Service for 6 months now and it has been excellent! It made my transition into parenthood so much easier while still knowing my baby was comfortable in cloth and protected from chemicals. One piece of advice for new or soon to be new parents though is to NOT use a Snappi with the newborn yellow trim prefolds. The claws go right through the thin fabric and rub against baby's skin. We wanted to do cloth diapers, but in our transition to new parenthood, I knew it would be challenging to wash our own cloth diapers as well as take care of little junior. Solution: Baby Diaper Service! They deliver fresh, clean diapers once a week and take away your used dirty diapers. You have to buy your own diaper covers (and launder those yourself), but it sure beats having to do 3 extra loads of laundry a week. It allows me to spend more time with my sweet little babe. Wow, these guys are amazing. With twins, I knew that I wouldn't be able to consistently wash 130 or so diapers a week. So Baby Diaper Service does that for me. They use a trace amount of bleach per load (this was really important to me), and they rely mostly on a number of energy-efficient washes and rinses to get the job done. The diapers arrive super clean and soft. And the hampers they provide are great -- totally keep the smell in, thanks to their natural orange-scented deodorant disks. I signed up for this service despite some bad reviews, as I really didn't want to wash the 100 or so dirty diapers that a newborn produces in a week, my mother used the same service to diaper me 25 years ago and recommended it, and there is not really a competing diaper service in Seattle. I experienced a few problems at first (delivery of the wrong number of diapers, delivery of the smaller size of diapers after I had called that week to get the bigger size in the next delivery, switched delivery from Tuesday to Wednesday without alerting me), which I found really frustrating. Soon, however, I was contacted by a gentleman (I believe the General Manager) who wanted to assure me that issues like the ones I had been experiencing were not par for the course. He offered me a few weeks of diaper service and a few diaper covers as consolation, and I didn't have any problems after that. He even recently called to follow up and make sure I was not experiencing further issues. The majority of businesses mess things up occasionally, but it's really about how they deal with the issues and displeased customers. They won me back. :) read more

This service was a gift that I badly wanted (unlike the pile of newborn onesies and stuffed animals we received) and have enjoyed using it for the past 9 months. It's been great for us. I know that I never would have kept using cloth diapers if someone else weren't doing the laundry. When we needed the next size up we called them and because the smaller size had just been delivered they rushed out another delivery in the larger size that day. So nice! We were willing to wait another week for it, but it was great for them to do that unsolicited. Occasionally when we've forgotten to put the diapers on the porch they've been quite courteous and knocked on the door to ask for them. Which is great, as we didn't want to house the dirty diapers for a week as we incurred more dirty diapers! On our first delivery while I was pregnant the van driver was a dad who kindly showed us how to fold the diapers for a boy and for a girl since the sex was a surprise to us. Phone calls were always answered promptly and with helpful knowledge about what kids may need as they get bigger. They just sent me a refund check because I had prepaid for a year to get their discount and only needed a portion of the year as it turned out. BDS has been great from the start. We've had to move up in size twice already and each time the switch was handled very efficiently. I've washed a few of my own diapers at home and no matter what they always have a verrrrry faint smell of ick, courtesy of my minimal-water-using HE washer. Not the BDS diapers - they smell like, well, nothing. Just as they should! You do have to buy and home-launder your own diaper covers, but because they do not absorb pee it is no problem. We decided to ease our way into cloth diapering our baby with the diaper service for the first few months. We only made it a month with the service before switching to our own stash though. Pros: No laundry (um, that part was majorly awesome now that I think about it) Reasonably Priced Convenient Eco friendly Customer Service Cons: Thin. I'm going to elaborate on this now...The prefolds would be completely soaked and didn't seem very absorbent. We were actually afraid that all diapers would be horribly wet in a matter of moments against our new baby and felt really disheartened by cloth at first. When we switched to our private prefolds stash (osocozy brand) though, we found this wasn't the case, thankfully. Visibly side by side, ours were thicker and fluffier and have proven the test of time. The second con was that we had to buy extras to keep up with our baby's needs... like, a lot of extras and that drove the price up. So for us, the bottom line was a performance issue. I have heard from other people that they used to use another type of prefold that was more absorbent. I wish they switched back, I'd probably go back to the service again even though it would be an extra expense! read more
