Allow me to share a little nugget of information: I'm a business owner 15-years, newspaper and and media industry, and member of several executive boards. I share this to emphasize two points: I make it a practice to be balanced and objective. When doing business, I pick up the phone and call prospects as a courtesy not only out of appreciation their time and consideration, but to better understand the clients/partners needs. Now with that said, let's get down to the good part. The following are the communications between Tara and myself (sent from her iPhone) : TARA: "Hello Nicole, Thank you for contacting me. Are you interested in receiving help for your son?" ME: Hi Tara. Yes, I am seeking assistance for my son, Joseph, 6.5 yrs in the 1st grade, Joseph recently transferred from a private outdoor school, (located) in Wheaton.... The transition (to his new school) has been challenging. Joseph is extremely intelligent, altho he's a left brain thinker. His brain filters and processes information from left to right. He performs exceedingly well in math, in some aspects, but struggles with math concepts presented in traditional school. He's an unbelievable narrative and conceptual thinker. Although he struggles, which is an understatement, with numbers transposition, letter transposition, phonics and short-term memory. His long term memory goes back to the womb. They decided to hire me, so I will be enrolling this new student. Unfortunately, I will not have any additional availability during the day next year. Perhaps Tara knew innately she would be out performed by other tutor candidates who show more sincerity and professionalism. She certainly did not discern from the credentials in my email that newspaper folks write and interview with our noses - or least she doesn't care.

My son attended 30 plus hours of instruction at Lindamood-Bell Oak Park. I am not convinced that…read morethis is was effective tool for his needs. We spent over $16,000 for the personalized instruction. At that point, we were desperate to assist his academic needs. Some of the instructors were decent, but there was a high turnover rate for staff at this location. One year later, and his reading levels have not improved at all! I think for my son to gain any long term benefits, we would have had to sink $50,000+ of money into this program. That is a financial burden and risk that we are not willing to take! Definitely, not worth the time, program cost and gas money that I put into my car! Currently, we have my son working with a tutor after school for 5 days a week (close to home) and we have spent 1/4 the money. The results have been MUCH better and my son is happier because there is less drive time.

Not many places can get a just turned 6 year old to sit and study in an office cubicle for 4 hours a day 5 days a week for 4 weeks during their summer vacation - and love it! I'm very pleased with her progress and it is definitely noticed by her teachers and tutors this school year! I am giving 4 stars bc I have yet to start the program with LMB but I saw the negative review posted here and had to share our experience because it was much different. I have had my daughter (she's 5.5) tested by 5 different professionals in a lot of different areas of expertise (occupational therapy, behavioral therapy, speech pathology, and auditory testing, and LMB in OP) to get to the bottom of why she is behind her kindergarten class in reading. Her school has a pretty intense Kindergarten program so I wanted to at least give her confidence in her ability to catch up to peers. Anyway, I felt the testing at LMB was top notch, and was very thorough with legs to each area. Their test came back with very similar results to other testers (not affiliated with LMB or even in the same state) but their approach to "fixing" my daughter seemed like a clear path over a 4 week period. I didn't feel like I was being sold to at all, I felt like they took the time to truly get to know my daughter (and even requested one more test the following day to gauge her against higher standards bc of her expectations at her school). I would not even be considering paying their fees if I didn't feel like Sierra (the director) and her crew hadn't spent the time with my daughter and actually had solid feedback. In addition, their findings mirrored what the other specialists found as well so it reaffirmed my gut instinct. It's not a cheap place but from talking with other professionals I know they yield proven results. I'm willing to try it this summer and will update my review once we go through it. I just didn't want people to be totally scared off by the unfortunate experience the other reviewer had. It's a frustrating and emotional journey when you're worried about how to help your child, and I would still consider LMB to help even if it's just their testing (which is WAY less expensive than the other testing we did! The actual program is what is pricy).

I have never been so proud and even more surprised just after 6 months at Kumon my son's standardized tested result as 95 percentiles in reading and 97 percentiles in math for his grade nationally. I cannot thank Ms. Dolly and her staff enough for doing such an amazing job to help him staying on the right track. Ms. Dolly has always stayed on top of timely communications with the parents about Komon's teaching methodology and the kid's learning progress. At the same time when she helps all the kids, she has also been a great mentor to all the parents. No doubt, it is a great youth learning center with a well-structured program, well trained staff and a professional director.

Extremely Disappointed - No Results After 30 Hours…read more I spent 30 hours at Elite Tutoring Place, fully committed to improving my ACT score. I followed every piece of advice, completed all the assigned work, and put in the extra effort outside of sessions. I'm a hard worker--I don't expect results without putting in the work. But after all that time and money, my score did not improve at all. The tutors were friendly, but the strategies they taught me were no different from what I had already learned on my own. There was no personalized approach, no real effort to target my weaknesses, and honestly, it felt like I was just going through the motions in every session. For a program that promises score improvements, this was a complete waste of time and money. If you're looking for real results, I strongly suggest finding another program. Elite Tutoring Place did nothing for me except drain my wallet and leave me frustrated. The owner will respond to this message claiming I never attended Elite Tutoring Place in Wheaton as he did in my google review. Regardless, I did attend Elite Tutoring Place in Wheaton, and I find it concerning that he claims not to have any record of me. I showed up, did the work, and stuck to the program as instructed, yet my score did not improve at all. Nick- Instead of dismissing my experience, maybe take accountability and consider how blaming the student for not following the program correctly when I did everything asked of me is not a great look. Instead of denying my attendance, maybe focus on improving your program so future students actually see results.

I contacted Tricia at Genius Tutors and joined her group tutoring sessions. I started watching her videos and went for a couple private lessons as well. By my next exam I recieved a perfect score!!!!!!! AND she is even so sweet as to give her students gift cards when they get an A on a test!!! They are by far the best tutors in Hinsdale! I highly recommend Genius Tutors for anyone looking to excel in High School Math or Science classes in the Hinsdale area.
