I was craving to eat a Banh mi sandwich. I bought two sandwiches. A teriyaki chicken and a ham banh mi. My favorite banh mi was from the Ba-Le in the old Don Quijote in Waipahu. I was hoping that this place could match the friendliness of the staff and taste of the ham banh mi. The young girl that took my order was pleasant. Our go to take out Bahn Mi spot! Located near Honolulu International Airport. Lots of free parking. I get the Lemon Grass Chicken Bahn Mi with extra pickle vegetables ($2 up charge) Half is filling enough for me. I eat the other half later in my day. Located off Nimitz Hwy, in a shopping complex with lots of other restaurants and stores. Decided to stop by and grab a quick lunch, they were very busy with customers and phone orders, so service was a little slow, but understandable for a small mom & pop restaurant. The combo sandwich was good, but the bread could have been toasted more to give the sandwich the nice crunch and texture, other than that it was filled with fresh vegetables and it was tasty. Was in the mood for a baile sandwich near the airport. Found one at the Nimitz Center. Service was fast especially this place also has tables to eat in. Tables are set up for seating of fours. You can walk up to the counter to make your takeout order. Order the combo sandwich, pad thai noodles and thai coffee. Sorry to say that like all Ba-Le Sandwich shops I have been to. Walking around while waiting for my car to be serviced. I came to a strip mall on Nimitz Hwy . There were all kinds of eatery places to eat . Subway, Nimitz BBQ. Aloha Sushi and a fast food Chinese restaurant. Also my last Ba-Le review at Kamehameha Shopping Center location was a flop . So I decided to stop in at this particular location Ba-Le . The service was very friendly and I ordered 2 pieces of their spring roll . It came out hot and fresh and it was stuffed with rice noodles , a little pork , shredded carrots , mushrooms and cabbage. They give a good portion of food to be honest and prices are fairly reasonable. I think the best thing in my opinion is they open early at 9am. I had the veggie sandwich for lunch it was tasty. My friend had tofu pad thai I enjoyed the sample I got you could really taste the peanuts and fish sauce. We also got summer rolls which tasted ok I'm a sucker for peanut sauce and theirs isn't bad but it is a little runnier then I'm used to. As someone who knows Vietnamese food, food is subpar. In fact, my first impression was that it's a Thai restaurant that tries its hardest to be Vietnamese one. Restaurant is owned by Thai but serves both Vietnamese and Thai food. Combination sandwich was great and the tapioca pudding was excellent. Service and ambience could definitely be more friendly because I will never patronize a business with unfriendly, bad service regardless of good the food is!!! Great little hole in the wall. Since Pearl City and Waipahu stores both closed i guess this is my new Ba-Le hang out. Wait was a bit long but worth it. Ordered Lemon Grass Chicken, and Pork Pate sandwiches. Egg rolls, and Tapioka desserts. All were very good. Parking is plentiful and restaurant is cool and about 10 tables to sit inside. I have been going here for years. Been through a few new chefs and owners. Today was the first time that the food didn't taste good. We ordered 2 Bahmi sandwiches. I work right down the street and walked over to grab a bite to eat. The spot is small and very "hole in the wall". When I placed my order, I noticed a worker behind the register cleaning what looked like clams. He was doing it without gloves. I found that rather alarming. This is my favorite Ba-le location as they have both Thai and Vietnamese food. My husband always orders the Lemongrass chicken sandwich but I usually switch orders. I cant believe I havent written a review considering how many times I have been here - to eat in before the pandemic and for take out this year. I have tried their pad thai, tom yum soup, Panang curry, pad see iew, pad basil, and today I got the combination beef teriyaki, lemongrass chicken and spring roll. Service here is great and you can call orders in advance. The only slip up from a previous order is when they forgot my rice with my order among 10 orders for the office. I would have been ok without rice but I ordered panang curry. So I called to tell them they forgot my rice for my birthday lunch. I have had several entrees from Ba-Le Thai. I have enjoyed the spring rolls and the Phõ. Today the Phõ was exceptional. JR was friendly and made sure the food arrived quickly. Haven't eaten at any Bal-Le shops in over 5 years, but my coworkers wanted to eat here so why not give it another try. I ordered the Special sandwich which had paté, meats, and daikon/carrots. It's my favorite sandwich because it's kinda similar to the one my mom made when we I was younger. I also ordered some Thai tea which wasn't as sweet as I wanted it. The banana tapioca pudding which is my favorite when I'm at a Vietnamese shop or restaurant, didn't taste good at all here. The sandwich was pretty yummy, but overall, it's just too expensive for a sandwich in general. I'd rather buy a yummy plate lunch at Joe's Grill or Cristine's Diners for the same or lesser price. The staff were friendly and somewhat fast. There are tables/seats to dine at. The parking lot and pretty large and shared with other establishments.
