This is NOT your ordinary, "just add water to the box mix," WAFFLE!!!

This is NOT your ordinary, "just add water to the box mix," WAFFLE!!! I have never tasted a waffle that is smooth and savory, light and airy, but yet firm enough to top on some whipped cream or fruit. You can taste the quality of the ingredients that are put into the batter. The end result????..... Well now, you'll just have to taste it for yourself!

Salted caramel!

Stopped by here this past Wednesday for a free waffle! Gerald does this on the first Wednesday of each month and rotates flavors. This months flavor was salted caramel. He sets up in the capitol one cafe at the entrance. We showed up at 9:45am and the line was pretty long, maybe 30 people in front of us. He makes the waffles fresh so expect to wait. We waited a total of 45 minutes, but it goes by fast if you have someone fun to chat with! The waffle is well worth the wait and so is getting to talk to Gerald. He is such a kind hearted guy and you could tell how much he cares about the community he serves and vice versa. So many regulars brought him gifts. On to the waffle...the waffle is so different from what I'm used too. I watched him put the batter in the waffle cooker, and noticed that the batter is very thick. It almost looks like cookie dough, that's how thick it is. I mentioned that to him, and he said the reason it is like that is because it's yeast based. That's what makes it so different! The waffle comes out dense. It's amazing! Definitely my new favorite way to spend my my first Wednesdays of the month!

Lemon Zest Waffle

I've had them twice at the Capital One 360 Cafe and they're the best Belgian waffles ever! Sorry Belgian Waffle guy @ Stonestown's Farmers Market, you have been replaced! Even when not warmed up and pre made, they're still great, but freshly made and super hot topped with powdered sugar...they are freakin amazing!! My first waffle a few weeks ago was the maple bacon. The sweet and salty and awesome pieces of bacon worked so well. Yesterday my friend and I indulged in the lemon zest. This was wonderful as well, as the lemon was pleasant but not overbearing at all. The waffles are thick, soft in the middle and crunchy on the edges. I was stuffed for a few hours even after consumption. And when it's not freebie day, they are only $3. Super affordable and a great way to start the morning. I also met the owner/creator of B. Street Waffles who is super sweet! I hope B. Street is able to expand in the near future. Thank goodness the Capital One Cafe isn't that close to my office, or else I would be in trouble!

Pumpkin Spice Waffle (October 2014)

Gerald is super awesome for setting up a booth at the Capital One 360 Cafe on Post & Kearny every 1st Wed. of the month to hand out FREE WAFFLES. My coworkers discovered this exciting monthly event this past July and have been religiously going ever since. Gerald always makes some kind of seasonal waffle--pumpkin spice, white chocolate cranberry, gingerbread, etc. Every single one is delicious when they're fresh off the griddle topped with a sprinkle of powdered sugar. My favorites so far are the salted caramel and white chocolate cranberry. All the waffles are thick, chewy, and have a nice crispy exterior. The waffles also have chunks of crystallized sugar in them for a little extra bite of sweetness. I'm a little sad Capital One 360 Cafe doesn't have B.Street Waffles for sale any more due to the addition of a Peet's franchise. However, I'll have to stop by the Noe Valley location if I'm craving another waffle. Or just wait for the 1st Wednesday of the following month...I'm always eager to see what new flavors will be offered.

This is not your mama's waffles. (Unless of course you grew up in Brussels) Great liege waffles with the sugar beads in the dough and everything. Not the pressed runny pancake batter that we call "Belgian Waffles" More like cookie dough put into a waffle press. Amazing. You haven't had a true Belgian waffle unless you've had a liege waffle, which is exactly what they serve. Too bad you can't get them whenever you want. Try waffle Wednesdays at the Capital One 360 cafe every first Wednesday of the month. Line can be long.

Just a few members of our team who block time on our calendars to go every month

I first met Gerald and experienced B. Street at our company holiday party last year and then when I found out he served free waffles at Capitol One cafe I made sure to put a recurring event on my calendar so I wouldn't miss it! First of all, Gerald is just wonderful. He takes his craft seriously and makes sure to use pearl sugar imported from Amsterdam (for those of you who know authentic belgian waffles you know this is essential), and even brought his waffle iron across the pond to make sure each waffle he produced was as genuine and authentic as you can get. He's friendly and engaging and is always chatting with people who wait in the long lines the first Wednesday of each month. It's seriously the best way to start a wednesday. As for the waffles, he changes the flavors each month. I've had salted caramel, pumpkin spice, apple cinnamon and cherry and they're all amazing. The flavors are folded into the dough so you get a bit of fruit or spice each time. They're fluffy, slightly caramelized, and sweet (but not too sweet!) We're hoping to have Gerald come back for our holiday party again, it was such a hit last year! Clearly he converted a few fans from that one event

There were a few samples. All were delightful. But this one felt special. It seemed denser than the others, resisting the spoon before finally landing on my tongue. As the cream yielded, it dissolved into a thick, satin wave, coating my palate. The velvety base melted, and the rich ribbon of Medjool date caramel bloomed across my taste buds, releasing a deep, sun-baked sweetness with dark molasses undertones that lingered long after the scoop was gone. I knew one scoop was enough, but I wished it wasn't. The scooper was one with their environment and sympatico with the customers. I could tell they enjoyed their gig, and it showed.

There are no seating inside with a limited number of bistro tables in front. But there are benches along the street so we used one of those. Everyone working there was so patient with every customer. We were offered samples before deciding what to order. All the flavors look so tasty. Their single scoop was huge! So even though it sounds expensive at first, the large servings made it reasonable. It's large enough to share.

This deli opens at 8am. We were actually 2nd. in line for the doors to open. My friend and I lived many many years in NYC...deli rules. When it opened we were greeted and seated, we chose to sit inside though they did have a fairly big patio area. Service was excellent all around from the hostess who sat us to Christina who took good care of us making sure water and coffees were refill promptly and was very friendly. My friend ordered his favorite, a hot Pastrami sandwich on lightly toasted rye. I ordered my most favorite deli item, the Chopped Liver appetizer. While we were waiting for our food, we were served the tradition Pickle Tray, YEAH!!!! The food came out and was all DELISH! My friend loved his pastrami sandwich and my chopped liver was good but could of used some chopped hard boiled egg, more onion and some salt.. but was still good. To note: We would definitely come again on an off hour where I would not have to wait. Atmosphere: Fairly large inside and patio, very Deli feel, huge bakery display to purchase. Service: excellent. There are many other good options to pick from! If you end up disliking the chopped liver, I'd hate for that to ruin your experience at Sherman's. The second time I ordered: - NY Style Hot Pastrami Sandwich: This was the best thing I tried on the menu. The pastrami was absolutely perfect! I highly recommend this sandwich! - Lite Lunch Special: Not all sandwiches are available for the half portion, so I would suggest clarifying with your waiter. I ordered 1/2 Brisket of Beef (BBQ sauce on the side) and 1/2 Garden Salad. Both were just fine. Unfortunately I was way too full to try any of the dessert. They were beautifully displayed though!
