    Pan Dulce y Palmier

Im so glad I found this place! Desert Bakery is an absolute gem in Desert Hot Springs. If you love pan dulce, this spot is a must. Their conchas are perfection--soft, fluffy, and just the right amount of sweetness with that classic crunchy topping. I could eat them every day! The whole selection of pan dulce is fresh and made with care. You can tell everything is baked in-house--nothing tastes mass-produced or stale. I grabbed a little mix of treats and had zero regrets (except not buying more). The shop is small and full of wonderful smells and cases full of treats. We ended up buying several to share with our hotel staff. Definitely adding this to my regular stops whenever I'm in the area. Support local and treat yourself--you won't be disappointed!

Shout out to this hidden gym tucked away in Desert, Hot Springs. I used to go to Stater Brothers for my Bolio but now I can get fresh baked Bolio clouds from this establishment. Prices are reasonable. Customer service is fantastic and the place was clean.

The bread, pastries (sweet and savoury!), cookies, cake (carrot!) and then also their amazing sandwiches, well, it is all to die for. During my 40+ minute drive down from the canyon I am thinking the whole time, 'What should I get today?' And so looking forward to eating it. About the sourdough bread (everything here is sourdough of course)... I have been baking sourdough bread, using the same starter, for the last 16 years (along with waffles and pancakes and biscuits) -- inspired by what I first found at San Francisco's Tartine and soon after at Luna -- and Luna's bread continues to inspire me (I wish I could bake it so perfectly every time). If you are in YV, Joshua Tree, Pioneertown (on your way to and from Pappy and Harriet's maybe?) and vicinity, do not miss the opportunity to visit Luna Sourdough Bakery.

Ok. I can't believe I'm gonna say this (because who complains about too much food), but. There was way too much brie. Like, it was a whole brick o' brie in it. Just...too much. I think it would have been perfect with like, half of it. Again, I can't believe I'm complaining about generosity, but there you have it. Hey Luna, trying to save y'all some resources (or something). Otherwise, things were delicious, as expected. Their water container, which I guess has an intricate filtration system, takes a LONG time to filter water after it's filled. We parked on the street, as the parking lot was very small, but there is plenty of street parking. Bathroom is singular, single-stalled, and not gendered.

This deli opens at 8am. We were actually 2nd. in line for the doors to open. My friend and I lived many many years in NYC...deli rules. When it opened we were greeted and seated, we chose to sit inside though they did have a fairly big patio area. Service was excellent all around from the hostess who sat us to Christina who took good care of us making sure water and coffees were refill promptly and was very friendly. My friend ordered his favorite, a hot Pastrami sandwich on lightly toasted rye. I ordered my most favorite deli item, the Chopped Liver appetizer. While we were waiting for our food, we were served the tradition Pickle Tray, YEAH!!!! The food came out and was all DELISH! My friend loved his pastrami sandwich and my chopped liver was good but could of used some chopped hard boiled egg, more onion and some salt.. but was still good. To note: We would definitely come again on an off hour where I would not have to wait. Atmosphere: Fairly large inside and patio, very Deli feel, huge bakery display to purchase. Service: excellent. It was a weird mixture of chicken, tuna, cottage cheese, fruits, lettuce. The flavoring was odd and not complimentary to each other. - #6 Hot Pastrami with Chopped Liver Sandwich: If you have never tried chopped liver before, I don't think this should be your first time experimenting. There are many other good options to pick from! If you end up disliking the chopped liver, I'd hate for that to ruin your experience at Sherman's. The second time I ordered: - NY Style Hot Pastrami Sandwich: This was the best thing I tried on the menu. The pastrami was absolutely perfect! I highly recommend this sandwich! - Lite Lunch Special: Not all sandwiches are available for the half portion, so I would suggest clarifying with your waiter. I ordered 1/2 Brisket of Beef (BBQ sauce on the side) and 1/2 Garden Salad. Both were just fine. Unfortunately I was way too full to try any of the dessert. They were beautifully displayed though!

Melissa was very accommodating with the shorter than their recommended lead time of about 3.5 weeks versus 4 weeks in advance and was very responsive throughout the entire process through email with the final confirmation over the phone. On the day of the pick up, they also remembered we were coming in from LA and followed up with us to make sure we were going to get there before they closed at 4PM. They had a wide variety of flavors to choose from that could be cake, but we settled on traditional chocolate, one of the flavors that allow for a custom design. We sent them an inspiration photo of what we were looking for along with the color scheme and they absolutely knocked it out of the park on the looks. The cake was well received by everyone at the party. Since I was unable to get one of their more daring and creative flavors as the custom cake, I did go ahead and order a dozen of their Dubai chocolate cupcakes and very much enjoyed them.
