Pretty bummed with an our experience here! I've had Carousel bookmarked for a while as we frequent the desert often. We were celebrating a birthday, so it felt like the perfect occasion to order a beautiful cake and enjoy breakfast as a family in their dining space. Employees are rather unhelpful. Our cake order was not ready on time, which was a bit frustrating when managing schedules with kids. I also didn't appreciate the employee watching our entire family select breakfast items to only subsequently tell us that they are not serving breakfast at all that day. read more

I ordered the ultimate croissant breakfast sandwich and asked if potato salad came with it. I got no response. Apparently it's five dollars for a scoop of potato salad which if I had known that I would've not gotten it. Nothing else comes with the $17 sandwich. This was at 12:20 PM. 30 minutes later this is what I received and it was $25. I asked for it to go because I am at the courthouse and at jury duty and I cannot spend an hour for lunch. They need more help here. Also the sandwich menu said provolone and this is clearly cheddar cheese and it was mixed in with the scrambled eggs along with the spinach. The waitresses were clearly busy and she gave me no alternative than to get it to go and I still paid the $25 I would not recommend this at all. I grabbed some back goods on one visit and had breakfast on another at Carousel. I selected the chocolate croissant and Mexican wedding cookie for my to go morning treat. I was not super impressed with either as the croissant was a bit bland overall and the cookie disintegrated into crumbs. Service at the counter was a bit slow as there was just one person to handle making espresso drinks and bakery purchases. My breakfast visit was nice. I had a scrambled egg, ham, pesto bowl and it was a good size and had great flavors. I also had a Bear Claw and a decaf iced mocha. The Bear Claw was very good and definitely recommended. The coffee had an off flavor and was just okay. Service was very friendly and hard working. It was busy but not slammed yet food came out slow and others in the restaurant were getting restless. I got, to go and sat in the area since had some time to finish what I ordered. They do have a decent amount of pastries to choose from which is good and a decent drink menu. Nothing really stood out to me but what I ordered was good. Nothing crazy good, just good. The people working there though seemed a little all over the place and almost seemed confused how to run it or at least deal with the customers who kept coming in. Especially when they didn't know where to go to be seated. Either way it's decent inside. It's comfortable and the feel of it and where it's located, suits the feel for it. Price side you are looking about $5-10 per item per person. The sit down menu which I glanced at, seemed a little pricier than other cafes but who knows the food might be worth it. What an amazing hidden gem! I regularly drop my dog off to get his haircut in this plaza and am always looking for things to do. Some of the other restaurants don't open until later in the day, but this one was open nice and early. I was expecting a small bakery or coffee shop, but was pleasantly surprised to find full seating when I arrived! The place was super busy too -- lots of people coming in and out to try the delicious grub. I had the lox and eggs benny on a jalapeño scone and it was incredible. My only suggestion was that the scone would've been amazing if it was toasted, but I'm sure they can do that for you upon request! Also a heads up that their hollandaise sauce is more on the lemony/citrusy side -- something to be mindful of if you're not into that. Was excited to share this locals Jem with my sister. Off the regular tourist spot. Had delicious on point meals previously. In fact Carousel provided birthday cookies for my birthday a few years ago. Loved this little gem We ordered lox and bagel and toasted onion bagel with cream cheese with two drinks ( green juice and Honey oat milk latte. The lox bagel was delicious so so good and tasted fresh. The potato salad was also tasty. Honey oat milk latte: it was good overall but I like more sweet drinks and this was not very sweet but more a preference thing. Green Juice: right amount of sweetness, can taste the ginger and kale! Stumbled across this place when we took a wrong turn to go to a different place. Service was great and staff were friendly and attentive. Th pastry selection alone was enough for us. Everything baked in house and looks delicious. We got a ham and cheese croissant and jalepeno scone to go. Couldn't decide if I wanted a coffee or something more refreshing after a little hike. I went with their green juice. I didn't read the menu correctly and saw it was blended, more like a smoothie. It was good, but I think I was expecting more of a green juice, less smoothie like. The pastries looked amazing. And they had cute seating section. They added a cafe. They are in a much bigger space in the same shopping center, just to the right of Spectrum on El Cielo. They expanded their selection of baked goods and have a full coffee menu, plus a dining room serving breakfast, sandwiches, and burgers. We got the Turkey Club and the Reuben. The sandwiches are big, and we took half home for lunch the next day. They really did a nice remodel on the old Nicolina's space, and the food and baked goods are excellent. read more

I've been visiting this sandwich shop and bakery for years here in Palm Springs. And I love their large new location with indoor and patio dining. They now serve breakfast and lunch! Never disappointing, with some of the best homemade croissants and bakery in town. The sandwiches are always incredible made on their own, fresh breads. My uncles, daughter and I tried to have a nice little birthday brunch at Carousel today. We arrived at 11:05 am and sat at a table on the patio with our dog. After 15 minutes one uncle went inside to remind the staff that we were there. Another family sat down at the table next to us. Elizabeth came out and gave THEM menus and took their order ASAP. She said our waitress would be right out. Another 10 minutes passed. We finally got menus and the waitress took our drink orders. Another 10 minutes and no coffee or water. Meanwhile, the family next to us is getting REFILLS on their coffee! My uncle asked the waitress if we had offended them somehow and explained that we were still waiting for our drinks. We finally got two waters for a table of four. A few minutes later we got the rest of the drinks and the waitress took our food orders. Another HALF HOUR passes. The family next to us received stellar service, lots of refills and lots of check-ins from the staff. They paid their check, got coffee refills to go and went on their merry way. This was becoming fodder for a comedy sketch. We truly should have just left. Finally the food arrived and the waitress says the silverware is coming right away. Nope. We sit there for a minute, eggs getting cold. My kiddo starts eating eggs with her hot chocolate spoon. My uncle went inside TWICE to try to get silverware. When we finished eating I quickly went in to pay because we all just wanted to flee this endurance brunch as soon as possible. Elizabeth apologized and said they were short-staffed. I understand that that happens, and it can be challenging. Patrons will understand if you tell everybody you're doing your best and then you treat them EQUALLY. I felt very discriminated against since the family next to us had such attentive service while we had to beg for coffee and silverware and the waitress acted like we were an inconvenience from the get go. Was the food good? It was okay. The cochinita burrito was so-so. French toast was fine. Brunch probably would have tasted better when it was hot rather than lukewarm after the quest for forks. The pastries looked nice, but I sure wasn't going to spend another penny here. They clearly have some process improvements to make -- other reviewers have also noted spotty service. read more
