We were driving to L.A. so I browsed the map for vegan friendly eats along that way and found this gem. It's about a 12min drive west of I-10, located in a small business park strip mall. It's absolutely worth the diversion. They have a small section with groceries, and a larger area with refrigerated goods. I tried El Cubano (no tomato, no cabbage), Potato Salad, and Key Lime Parfait. El Cubano was actually delicious. Their thinly sliced and seasoned seitan was perfect, as was the accompanying sauces and toasted bread. I'd order this on repeat if I lived nearby. I was surprised by how great the potato salad was. It had the perfect mayo/mustard balance, which is extremely difficult to find. I need a gallon of this. The key lime parfait was ok. I expected more (in terms of flavor, not quantity), but it was not bad. I've just had much better so I wouldn't order it again. I'd be willing to try a different dessert next time. It was gluten free so that's a plus! There were many other things on the menu that caught my eye, but I only have one tummy. If we'd had a cooler I would've grabbed some tuNo salad, Egg-y salad, smoked chick'n & pasta, and CTK tempeh pâté from their refrigerated section, because everything looked delicious. But now I have the perfect excuse to return to CTK on my next PHX-LAX drive. read more

The service here was great! The lady who took my order was so friendly and helpful and my order was ready pretty quickly. I also love their little store section with the faux meats, seasonings, and merchandise. I ordered the bowl of chili, the Chupacabra sandwich and the Guadalajara burger. The chili was so flavorful and I enjoyed learning that they use Rancho Gordo beans. The Guadalajara burger had great toppings but as much as I try, I'm not the biggest fan of Tempeh. The chupacabra sandwich was good, the menu said that the 'chicken' is thinly sliced, I didn't realize just how thin it is. I think I would have preferred if it were slightly thicker and less cabbage. There was so much cabbage that it overpowered the rest of the sandwich. Overall, I think this place is a gem and I'd like to try their other menu items. read more

They have a rewards program so be sure to ask about it if they don't ask for your phone number, we didn't know & we bought a lot a few times before I overheard the cashier the 2nd day asking for a customer's number who was ordering ahead of the line. We made 4 transactions over 2 days that definitely added up to just shy of $200. The cashier that was a young guy was great because he told us that there was actually a 2nd location not too far away that made specialty coffee drinks & ice cream. We rushed over there to try the ice cream & I also ordered the matcha with lavender that they make that tastes authentic, the flavor was incredible, (not like the fake stuff that the most famous coffee place on earth sells that smells funny). The cashier at the other location was super kind, knowledgeable, & very easy to talk to, I asked several questions & was indecisive before placing my order yet she was patient & friendly. The guy that made my ice cream came over to ask me if I would like blueberries with the strawberries in the shortcake ice cream, it was some of the best vegan ice cream that I've ever tried, along with excellent customer service, I highly recommend going there. We were visiting all the way from Vegas & tried Chef Tanya's because we were actually staying in Pioneertown for a show & there aren't any vegan restaurants in the area so we had to drive to Palm Springs. Kelly was amazing in answering all my questions, she offered suggestions and even gave us samples of the zucchini almond soup of the day and the tooty fruity agua fresca of the day which were both so delicious! I was a bit confused about the separation of the dining room but I thought it gave the kitchen more character! I always swing by Chef Tanya's when I'm in Palm Springs. The place is just so cool to visit and feels like a tourist destination with all the merch and souvenirs on display. When you're craving meat, they really hit the spot. I would definitely recommend the imitation-pork based sandwiches in particular. None of the gamey stink or fat or gristle present in animal salami, but all of the spices and flavor. The bread is so fluffy and chewy too! I love the grab and go offerings as well. The Moroccan cauliflower is amazing (I usually add a handful of raisins at home and the combo is perfection...) and the vegan meatloaf tastes exactly how I remember meat meatloaf tastes. Chef Tanya's is my favorite vegan food of ALL TIME! I first came here on a work trip a couple years ago, and i've made sure to stop here every time i'm back in the area. The menu is robust and each of the items i've had here has been off the charts good. My favorite item is by far the BLTA - bacon tofu, lettuce, avo, add crack cheese. You can't go wrong with anything here. Coming here the day of coachella, we also got to see one of the bands performing eating there, how you know it's good. Quick yelp search gave me this vegan restaurant and after checking out the menu I decided it was right for me in that moment. It's in kind of a weird part of town, almost like a warehouse district. You go in and it looks at first like it's going to just be a take away place, but the guy working behind the counter told me that there was an empty storefront two businesses down That they had taken over as like a seating area. I got the taco salad and it was delicious! The chipotle ranch dressing had just the right amount of spice and it was super creamy. The salad was piled high with fresh greens, beans, some pickled cabbage and little tortilla strips. It definitely hit the spot. The meatless taco meat was really good. Only thing it was missing was a little bit of vegan cheese. This place is obviously really popular because the whole time I was there people were coming and going and every table had someone in the seating area. This is review mainly for the mistake of giving our food away by accident. Actually, it wasn't given away, but it was taken/stolen from an uBer Eats delivery person. We placed a large order in advanced online, ample of time for them to make. Upon arrival, our food was nowhere to be found. Apparently it was grabbed by someone else by mistake or on purpose. My question is, why does this establishment place their online and phone orders by the doorway? The orders are placed on a shelf by the door and food that have been sitting there can be taken by anyone. Supposedly, we were told that it wasn't the first time it's happened. That is has been happening lately that people have been grabbing food either by mistake or taking them. Why now are they doing anything about it? Why didn't they fix that issue when it happened the first time? This is the first time I've ever seen any food spot place togo orders by the door that way. I'm not sure if it's laziness or that's more efficient and quicker for them to get rid of the order. That's a huge problem right there. Anyone can take food by mistake or just plain steal them. This place is small. The staff should have delivery personnel come up to the register and ask for the orders. It's not that hard. All orders should be behind the counter. Apparently a delivery guy came in there and grabbed an order then proceeded to take our bag as well. It's a logistics issue that shouldn't even be a concern. They did fix the problem but we had to wait for them to remake everything all over again so we had to wait again. We the customers had to ask them to accommodate us and have them solve their problems. The staff are young people. They were nice about it but I suggest better service and be more attentive and quick. It was an $80+ order and the food was alright. Expensive and was mediocre. Need more flavor on most and the position could be better. Overall, they did fix the issue, but this place needs to do better. read more

We recently stopped for lunch at Chef Tanya's while traveling. What a find! The outside may not look like much as it's in a semi-industrial area near the airport, but don't let that fool you. The selection, the quality, and the service is great. I ordered the Modern Hippie Veggie without carrot on gluten-free bread, and my partner selected El Cubano. Both sandwiches were large with fresh, flavorful ingredients. We also split a gluten free peanut butter parfait that was delicious. You make your order and if you eating there you go to the dining area across a small street filled with patio furniture. I got the tempeh Caprese sandwich and my gf got the Guadalajara. Cute vegan cafe with delicious food. There's lots to pick from and everything looked so good. I got the chupacabra chik'n sandwich and hubby got the Guadalajara burger. We both really liked our food. I added some sriracha to mine and it was perfect. I like how thinly sliced the seitan was. We also got the agua Fresca and it was refreshing on a hot day! I like to say it's like eating inside a mini world market (one of my favorite places ever) with the must trys to match like the Modern Hippie Veggie Sandwich, Banh Mi & You, Classic Deli Potato Salad and Tasty Thai Tofu Salad... Don't forget the Agua Frescas! Definitely hits the spot. The only thing I do not recommend is that chocolate cookie at the counter. Please DO NOT share that cookie with your non- vegan friends. I was heading up to Joshua Tree National Park for the weekend to hike the 38-mile California Riding and Hiking Trail, and we made a stop in Palm Springs for supplies. I've always admired Chef Tanya--attended a cooking demo of hers nearly a decade ago and still own two of her cookbooks--so visiting her place felt like a long-overdue stop. This was my first time at Chef Tanya's Kitchen, although I've probably eaten at Native Foods (her original concept) a hundred times. Right away, I loved the charming, cozy vibe of the shop. The decor is cute, and I liked the "shop before you order" layout. There's a solid selection of vegan merch and provisions. I was impressed to see Rebel Cheese stocked in the fridge. That said, prices across the board felt steep. I picked up a breakfast burrito from the grab-and-go section to pack for the hike. The label was adorable but lacked key info like cooking instructions or nutrition facts, so I wasn't sure if it needed heating or was ready to eat. It felt substantial--maybe around 15oz--but again, no weight listed. I also found a pink canvas tote I loved, but with no price tag, I was surprised at checkout to hear it was $20. Sadly, I had to pass. We headed next door to the small but lovely dining room, where the compostable utensils were surprisingly high-quality. The Bánh mì came on a square ciabatta roll, and the tofu portion was noticeably small--disappointing for a sandwich over $16 before tax and tip. The flavors nodded toward classic Bánh mì, but after enjoying authentic vegan versions made by Vietnamese cooks, the difference was clear. The pickled daikon and carrot (đồ chua) felt like an afterthought. Still, nothing tasted bad, and it was an overall edible, if underwhelming, sandwich. The pastrami sandwich was a different experience: generous, flavorful, and satisfying. The rye bread was soft with a mild flavor--depending on your preference, that could be a plus or minus--but it was a solid sandwich. I'd expected more of a sit-down Native Foods-style experience, but this was more of a grab-and-go setup, which had its own charm. The prices did sting a little, but I really do appreciate Chef Tanya for making quality vegan food more accessible in the desert. That alone makes it easier to feel good about supporting her business. Even with the mixed experience, I left grateful that places like this exist. read more

Even a basic kiosk for store purchases or placing kitchen orders could ease the flow dramatically. As a former restaurant owner myself, I know most POS systems now offer this feature, and it would definitely streamline the guest experience. I dragged my entire family here (I'm the only vegan one in a family of meat eaters) and even they were really happy with the food. The little one enjoyed the mac and cheese from the kids menu. You order in one building and then they have seating in a separate building two doors down. There's a place for you to order and buy other pre-made foods, and there's a dine-in area in a separate building right next to it. I love the ambiance. It gave modern hipster vibes and was quiet and peaceful. The customer service was helpful. For the food, I ordered the Modern Hippie Veggie sandwich with a small side of potato salad. I love all of the colors in the sandwich, it looks aesthetic and tasted good too. The sandwich was light and refreshing to eat. I like the crunch you get from the vegetables. However i think paying $16.25 for a sandwich is pretty expensive, even if it is was good. The potato salad was alright. If I'm ever in the area again though, I definitely would want to come back and try their other menu items.
