I recently lost my Lexus car key. The AAA roadside assistance referred us to this Locksmith. After he arrived and realized it's a Lexus he started acting like it was a very complicated case, almost impossible to do & etc. My husband asked him how much will it cost but he didnot tell him! He showed me three keys and asked which key looks like the original one and I showed him the one and he said it will cost $600. Keeping in my head that I'll get an "EOM" key for this price, he started working on it. After he was done, all of a sudden he asks me where my husband is... does it matter? (my husband had to leave by that time) then he handles me a simple key (pic attached) - not even close to the original key. He charges me $542 (zelle/venmo only)!!! Unfortunately, I was so stressed out at that point and so I paid him through Zelle right away. And then he added "if you want an original lexus key, call me and I'll programm it for you" I asked how much extra will it cost and he tells me +$600 more because he will have to reprogramm it all over! After processing in my head how he does business I realized his services would cost me over 1k after all. I feel like he took advantage of me, maybe because I am a woman?! I'm pretty sure the guy can copy a key just great, but he is far from a professional. He charged top dollar for our BMW key but failed to mention he can't program the FOB, which other locksmiths will do at the same price he charged us. Now my girlfriend is literally at this moment stuck at a gas station and can't get her gas door to open because she can't unlock the car with the FOB. She called him in tears and he responded "there is nothing I can do!". How about the $450 back so we can go to a real locksmith who knows how to program a FOB. Before Sam came by to fix my car, I told him about the warning signs on my dashboard and he told me that most of the time the issue is with the key fob and not the car. Turns out that it had nothing to do with the key fob and there were a ton of videos on YouTube that said if the indicators that I told Sam over the phone were on the dashboard, that the problem is not the key fob. Sam came out anyway and ended up charging me more than he quoted me over the phone, for paying with a credit card (never mentioned over the phone that his price was for cash) and even charged me tax which is unheard of for car services. This guy is a scam. I lost my keys in Mission Bay on a 2020 Honda Accord Sport. I called four different places and all quoted me 229, 279, 290 and 290 respectively. When this guy arrived, he raised that quote to $600 stating it's an "OEM" key. Oh and he offered to "shave" the key as well. After a conversation with another locksmith, he stated his offer was outrageous. So when he went back and called his main contractor, "the contractor" stated to ask him to charge me 300 instead of 600. I went ahead and agreed because he was already there working and it wasn't that much of a difference from the original quotes. Now, if the job was really 600, why would Mr. BS agree to the 300? Stay away, or if you do use him, make sure you call multiple locksmiths to get quotes. He will use the excuse, "once they get here they will up the price". Beware of this guy read more

Calling for a service vendor ('cause you done effed up, A-A-Ron) ranks up there with getting an avoidable traffic ticket, except there's no traffic school mulligan, unless you get hooked up. Unfortunately I don't have this particular diy skill set. I'm glad that there was someone available on a weekend that 1) returned my phone call and 2) arrived at the house in a reasonably prompt time frame. After checking out the door situation, he grabbed some tools and did some unlocking magic. It wasn't that bad of a wait before we were able to get back in the house. I don't really know the going rate for lockout services and didn't have time to check prices, so I'm just hoping I didn't get gouged. Job was done well, in timely fashion, and he gave a quote afterwards to re-code the locks to the same key (we're trying to get away from the janitor key collection look). read more
