I am writing on behalf of my husband to formally express his deep dissatisfaction with the treatment he received at B & B Auto Service today . What should have been a routine visit quickly turned into an extremely uncomfortable and upsetting experience. My husband is a young Black cargo van operator and the owner of a logistics business. While working in Sag Harbor, he encountered an issue with his cargo van and stopped by your shop seeking assistance. As a business owner who relies on his vehicle daily, he approached the situation professionally and simply needed support to get back on the road. From the moment he arrived, he felt that he was treated with a lack of respect and professionalism. The staff's tone and behavior toward him were dismissive, and he was not given the same level of attention or courtesy that he observed being extended to other customers. His concerns were not taken seriously, and he felt ignored when trying to ask questions about the service being performed on his vehicle. In addition to the unprofessional behavior, he was also overcharged for the services provided. When he requested a receipt, he was told that he would have to pay additional money just to receive documentation of the services performed, which is completely unacceptable. He was also told that he had to pay upfront in cash, which raised further concerns about the legitimacy and transparency of the transaction. More concerning, however, was the treatment he experienced that he perceived to be racially motivated. He was subjected to inappropriate language, including racist slurs, which is completely unacceptable under any circumstances. The manner in which he was spoken to, along with the overall hostility, made it clear that he was not being treated fairly or respectfully. Additionally, my husband was treated disrespectfully as well. He was told that he could not use the bathroom in the auto shop and was instructed to go to a nearby gas station instead. This added to the overall feeling of being unwelcome and discriminated against. No customer especially a paying customer and business owner should ever have to endure discrimination, dishonesty, or disrespect when seeking service. This experience was not only unprofessional but deeply offensive. I believe that all businesses have a responsibility to provide a respectful, inclusive, and professional environment for every customer. Unfortunately, my husband's experience at B & B Auto Service fell far below that standard. We are bringing this to your attention in hopes that it will be taken seriously and addressed appropriately. We expect accountability for this behavior and meaningful steps to ensure that no one else experiences this type of treatment in the future. read more

Terrible experience. I brought in a 2024 Volvo I was considering buying for a pre-purchase inspection and state inspection. They failed it for brakes/rotors, but I couldn't have the work done there because the seller required repairs be done at a certified dealer. When I went to pick up my car, I was told to come back multiple times and even pressured to pay $200 cash just to get it back. The man told me their rate was $200/hour, but when I later called, the woman at the desk said it was $175. I was invoiced $190, then charged $175 on my card with no explanation. On top of that, my car had 70 extra miles on it when I picked it up. Completely unprofessional and shady--avoid this place at all costs. read more

B&B is always my first call. They have serviced all 3 of our vehicles and have always given us great service and a fair price. Before replacing parts, the owner asked permisson to complete the job (ive had many mechanics do the work first and charge me without consent) and even showed me a video of my vehicle and gave me a thorough explanation of why the work needed to be done for safety. I have owned many cars and bought lots of tires. But I have never ever been charged for labor. The cost of tires has always included mounting and balancing. They charged $190 for replacing one tire, for what a 20 minute job? And customer service is not part of their "service." Answering the phone with "Did I call you? I said I'd call you" is a way to put the customer on the defensive. One of the owners saw me arrive to pick up my car and went into the office instead of talking to me. I followed her to the service door which says "Do not knock. Call." So I called and they didn't answer the phone. I left a message. I saw the other owner go into another building. I knocked a few seconds later and he did not come out. I waited 15 minutes for him to come out, saying "I'm working on my bill." In the conversation hours before he said he was working on the bill then. Terrible people. read more

Bobby and team at B&B Auto in Sag Harbor are terrific. They service our Land Rover LR4 and do a great job. They are also fun and funny and make the whole experience of maintaining the vehicle and dealing with problems when the service light comes on the vehicle a lot less stressful than it otherwise may be. A few days ago, the Rover needed service and Bobby actually picked me up at home and gave me a ride to the shop since my wife had our other car away from the house and otherwise it would have been difficult to get there. I was charged $350.28 for an oil change (2018 VW Atlas). I blame myself for not asking for a quote up front and encourage anyone who chooses B & B Auto, for anything, to get a quote in writing first. That said, I also encourage no one to ever visit B & B Auto for anything. After dropping my car off, I received a call from the shop asking two additional questions: 1. My rear license plate screw was loose, do I want a new one? 2. My NYS registration sticker was expired, do I want it to be scraped off? I answered yes to both. Picking up the car, I was told the total for the oil and 1.5 hours of labor was $350.52. Taken aback, I was told it was a "special screw and hard to install" and that there is a minimum fee of 1 hour of labor for all oil changes. Its unfortunate that they've built a business around taking advantage of clients by adding services to maximize billable hours. I live less than a half mile from the shop and instead of being a life-long customer, I'm a life-long detractor that will actively tell people to stay away. read more

I took a tire in for repair, 1/30/24 a simple 30$ repair added up to $195.00. their claims of resetting the tire pressure indicator, turning on the auxiliary and pushing a button constitutes an hour in labor, apparently ! if I can sway anyone from stepping into this swamp of con artists it will be worth the money I lost in the endeavor. avoid at all cost!!! read more

They took forever & after they called me to get my car when I got there it wasn't ready! one more test drive they said?! my Neighbors warned me about them but I didn't listen. after getting heated They said that they had mistake me for a different car owner & car. They're idiots & Sheisters. so do you think I learned? Ha- no. I brought over a flat tire for a plug repair where I had a nail. A simple fix. they wanted $180.00 and I had the tire in my hands. After reading how one should get a price before they do any work, that they are a rip off, they over charge, they are rude, I still went there and did not get a price up front - my mistake. Everything all those people have said about them is true -STAY AWAY!!! Lisa and Bobby are without a doubt the biggest rip off, con artists there are. Do yourself a favor and go anywhere else for your car repairs. Mine was a simple plug in a tire from a nail that caused a slow leak. They said to come to come right in as they were going to close early - it was 9am on a Saturday. They took my car for two hours, charged me 2x as much as I ever paid and then added an hour and a half for labor at $120 an hour. $220 later, after they put a plug in the tire I was able to get my car back. This was the second time B&B Auto has gotten me outta a jam. The first time a few years ago my vw windshield wipers had rotted and I couldn't find the correct replacement at the hardware store in town or that other auto place on the main drag. No problem for Bobby, he replaced them right away as I waited. This time I was in a bigger jam. My drivers side window stopped working and it was starting to fall out. Not safe to drive and I needed to drive back to NYC the next day. I drove it in at 2 pm, and Bobby took pity on me because I was a repeat customer. He managed to get the large part required for the repair that evening, and the car was back in business in less than 24 hours. Thanks Bobby for making my vacation still end on a high note. After my wife brought our Jeep for Inspection, my wife got a call from Lisa at B&B Auto Service. My wife called me and said that Lisa had called her and told her all these things that were supposedly wrong with our Jeep. My wife asked me to call Lisa and deal with her knowing herself that there was nothing wrong with the Jeep. I was told by Lisa on the phone that the brakes were metal to metal, my engine had no oil, my air cleaner was "clogged" and my wipers "chattered". She then asked me if I wanted them to do all the repairs. I told her no because I take care of my own cars and knew none of that to be true. I also told Lisa that the engine having no oil and the clogged air filter had nothing to do with the inspection and had not asked them to be checked. I also told her I never once heard my wipers "chatter" and that unless the wipers were coming apart or streaking that they were safe to pass. I told her I would come get my car and I would replace the brakes myself and everything wrong with the car. I even went out to purchase the wipers in case I was wrong about them. Lisa said she would call me back. When she called back the brakes were miraculously able to pass inspection and that they were not "metal to metal"! She then told us that if we bought the wipers and a couple of quarts of oil from them that they would pass the car. She was basically holding us ransom with the car and needed to make money off of us and get their pound of flesh. We asked her how much that would be and she said she would ask the mechanic how much and call us back. She called back hours later in the afternoon and said the mechanic was too busy and to come and pick up our car and that they would not pass it for inspection. I went down to get my car because there was no way I was going to let this dishonest shop take advantage of me anymore. When she gave me the receipt the only reason it failed was for "Broken Wipers". I told her I had new wipers in my son's car who was waiting for me. She said no and to sign the receipt and give her $37. I again told her that the wipers on the car were not broken and to show me. She refused to show me how they were broken. I then asked to speak to the mechanic and she refused that request as well. She said to give her the $37 and she would give me my keys. So I gave her my $37 and she handed me the keys and receipt and walked in the office and locked the door. When I got home I checked the oil and it was down a quart. I then checked the air filter and to my surprise the bolt holding the air intake tube that must be removed to check the air cleaner was rusted to the nut. How could the bolt rust to the nut in twelve hours? I used some penetrating oil on the bolt and eventually removed the bolt. I checked the air cleaner and to my surprise again it was slightly dirty but absolutely not clogged. They just made up things that were wrong with my Jeep to get money out of me. This shop is extremely dishonest. I can't image the amount of people who are unaware of the functions of their cars are unscrupulously taken advantage of by these people. After a quick Google search of this shop I found an extraordinary amount of bad reviews of this shop trying to rip customers off. I brought it to another place to get the inspection and it passed with the same working wipers that B&B "failed". These people are dishonest and liars. They'll sell you down the river for a buck. Don't trust them or believe anything they say. I saw a Jaguar for sale on Craiglist. Talked to Kenney on the phone sunday. It's supposedly his personal car but he is selling it through his business at B&B Automotive Solutions. Since it was a sunday, there were no auto shops to take it to for inspections. I told him I could come up sunday anyway to look at it and put down a deposit until monday when I'd then come back to have it inspected by a mechanic. I mentioned that live about 2 hours away so that would mean 8 hours of total driving. He told me no need to drive up sunday, no need for a deposit, that he would hold it for me and monday morning would be fine for me to come up. Later he texted me that he would be out of town monday or longer so no one can look at the car until he got back (maybe on wednesday). I texted him tuesday to ask if wednesday would work for him. He informed me that he/B&B had already agreed to accept a wire transfer from an out of state buyer of the car. No prior contact to me even though he told me I would get the first crack at it. I told him I would definitely buy it as long as it checks out with no major issues - and that if I don't then he can sell it to the out of state buyer. He told me business-wise he had to take the money rather than letting me see it and have it inspected first. Super dishonest, immoral, and greedy (money talks an scum walks). It's funny, because several months earlier B&B had a Jaguar for sale, I called them just before I took the 2 hour drive to see it and they told me that it was available. When I got there, they said one of the employees decided to buy (or keep) the car. I said you just told me that it was available so I took a day off work to drive up to buy it. They just said whoever told me that was wrong! I should have known better than to trust anyone connected to B&B a second time. Do you really want to deal with a business that puts their greed for money above honoring their word to a customer? That's the definition of a dishonest person and a scam business. On the way to Montauk on a Friday afternoon, the tire pressure indicator signaled that there was a problem. By chance, and our good fortune, We randomly pulled into the nearest gas station to address the problem. Lucky for us, we pulled into the station in which B&B operates it's auto repair business. We was promptly helped by Lisa who is B&B's manager and "director of public relations". She immediately checked all the tires and found that there were actually two damaged tires that had to be replaced. One tire was ballooned and if not replaced, a blow out, as well as a potentially serious accident, was a very real possibility in our near future. The other tire was damaged but was temporarily repaired and was drivable at low speeds. She and Bobby, the owner, worked out a plan so that we could get to Mtk for the weekend and stop by on Monday to have two new tires mounted on our way back to Manhattan. My significant other and I are very grateful for Bobby and Lisa saving our weekend vacation and possibly our lives, as well! They are great folks who made a trip to the auto repair shop a pleasant experience and at a very fair price, as well!! read more

I have just had the most unpleasant experience with B&B Auto Service located at 144 Hampton St. Gulf Gas Station today (8-2-21). I called them earlier today for an appointment and was told that it would take 30 minutes to repair. I dropped off my car. After waiting for two hours, the car was still not ready. When I pointed out this is taking much longer than what I was promised, I was told by the owner that "I cut into his lunch break" and "patience is a virtue". Following his incredible rudeness, he charged me for $145 for one tire repair. I had visited them in Winter 2021 for tire repair and was only charged $60. When I disputed the charges, he did not care at all. In order to retrieve my car, I had no option but to pay this amount. Furthermore, he insisted on cash payment which I was not told in advance. Stopped to put air in tires and was told to wait in the front. They would not allow us to stand and wait by the car. When we were allowed back, they said we had run over a nail and pointed it out to us. The nail was brand new and had obviously been shoved into the side of the tire while we were made to wait in the front. They then attempted to sell us not one, but two tires because they didn't want to "break up the pair." We expressed our disappointment and left immediately. I brought in my car for an inspection which they failed due to old tires, windshield wiper was partially torn (2" of a ~18" blade), etc. Bobby said he is super focused on safety and told me to fix those items plus an oil change would be $1,100. Having previously experienced garages trying to rip me off for unnecessary repairs during a routine inspection, I said I would fix it at my regular garage that doesn't do inspections. Besides, both Bobby and his colleague Lisa had both told me "Bobby doesn't the money"... I installed my own windshield wipers ($25-$30), bought 4 tires ($650 installed) and got an oil change ($80) and came out ahead around $350. When I called back to say that I fixed everything and would like him to reinspect and put on the sticker, they said they couldn't do it for the next two weeks. My only conclusion is they just use the inspection to overcharge you with repairs that may or not be necessary (the tire shop told me I needed to replace 2 tires but I decided to replace all 4)... Oh, and I had the same experience with not getting calls back. AVOID. read more

Engine light turned on after jeep compass was stalling on my way out from Brooklyn. The owner Bobby was a no nonsense kinda guy, good humor. I was in a bind for a quick turnaround only being in Montauk for 3 nights. Bobby gave me a comprehensive diagnostic and quote in about 24 hours and proactively had the engine mount shipped. I opted to get the critical components fixed, left some others for another time. He and his team stayed about 3 hours late on a weekend and i had the jeep back Saturday night. Price was expensive but appropriate considering the rapid turnaround and late work. This dude is one of the only guys doing his job in Montauk, so try to empathize with how many other people are going to want 1st priority. Give him and the reception lady respect, get good service in return. read more

RIP OFF!! Bobby charged me $140 to install 2 battery post shims (metal caps that slip over top of battery posts and cost a few dollars). It took no longer than 15 minutes to do but he charged me the full $120 hourly rate claiming that he can charge such exorbitant prices for his so called "knowledge". But his repair didn't even work because the next day the car wouldn't start again. It turns out I needed a new battery ground cable. If the ground wire is faulty then your battery will not charge completely. This will lead to problems like starting the car in the morning (or in my case, after a day's work). It was an easy fix that he missed. On top of which, I was kept waiting nearly half an hour for the bill, which he demanded be paid in CASH (probably so customers can't reverse charges for shoddy work). Believe me and other reviewers who wrote: "Horrific experience! He allows expensive work to be done WITHOUT even confirming with owner! Then handed a bill for @2,000!" and another who wrote, "The greed & rudeness is enough to push your car somewhere else!". This is the same shop that used to located at 5 South Edgemore Road, Montauk, NY. They recently moved to Sag Harbor, but with other options (honest good mechanics) nearby people should go elsewhere. Don't make the mistake I did of trusting him. This was he second time I used his shop and it will be my LAST!!! GO ELSEWHERE. read more

I went to b&b on a wim because it was the closets mechanic I could find to where my truck started giving me problems I didn't think I could drive very far from where I was. Needless to say I was at this mechanics mercy for whatever he told me was wrong with my vehicle I'd have to cough up the money and get it fixed so I could get home. I was at a loss to figure out what had happened.
