Büna is a wonderful perfect vibe. It's a quick service Ethiopian breakfast spot. When you walk in, you just feel the provisions they have been providing to the Petworth neighborhood for years. The drinks are delicious and the food is hearty, they don't skimp you out on portion sizes... as you can see with the brunch platter. They do other cafe classics as well like bagels and toasts. I always appreciate cafes that feel stuck in the 2000s. Büna definitely gives this vibe with their mismatched furniture and inspirational art. It's a comfort I always look for when I enjoy my morning coffee.

A big part of D.C. is the Ethiopian community and Buna Coffeehouse is one of several Ethiopian cafes in the city. This one is beloved by the neighborhood. Service is always on point and the space inviting. I enjoyed my iced latte. It's most strong and darker than I'm used to, but I really enjoyed it with a splash of simple syrup from the condiment bar. To eat, they sell bagels, sandwiches, and more. Popping in for breakfast, I ordered a chocolate chip muffin. It comes full of little chocolate chips, but it was very dry. I recommend asking it to be warmed up beforehand.

Delicious vegan Ethiopian food. I had the vegan platter and the flavors of everything were most definitely on point. The matcha latte with oat milk was also delicious. Although I got mine to go, it seems like it's a great place to get some work or writing done.

Come here often but just writing another review since my friends from out of town came here and loved it as well. Favorite spot in DC!

My mom lives around the corner so the back solo table is my new remote outdoor spot. Good food I had a smoothie, habesha eggs and a cappuccino I recommend all 3. My case manager had tibs her first habesha dish and she loved it. Ideal for work meetings and remote work. Best café in the area for day work.

Amazing food, drinks, service, and atmosphere! We tried one of their bowls and the avocado toast - both completely delicious and vegan. The coffee drinks are to die for. Highly recommend for vegans.

A Petworth gem that is not to be missed! Possibly my favorite of DC's many Ethiopian coffee shops and cafes. It's small inside but they've got a lot of outdoor seating. Solid coffee (I usually get iced coffee or a hot latte with oat milk) and even better food--American, Ethiopian, and fusion options for breakfast and lunch. I especially love the veggie roll-ups, such an ingenious way to transform the typical injera platter into an on-the-go takeout meal. The vegan options are stellar as well. I highly recommend the Ethiopic bowl and the vegan kitfo sandwich, they're so well spiced and satisfying!

This is always a reliable spot to grab a coffee, pasty, or a sandwich or some yummy Ethiopian food. The seating inside and out is super cute. The staff are amazing. It has a great community feel to it. Check out the community board for fun offerings in the neighborhood.

Breakfast on my mind! I was super hungry and didn't want to cook so I searched online for a restaurant that makes Lox bagels. I came across this coffeehouse and saw that they had really good reviews and what I wanted. Ordered the Lox bagel on sesame and a caramel frappe. The bagel sandwich was delightful. Good amount of salmon, cucumbers tomatoes and onions. Just what your girl needed! The frappe was cool but there wasn't much of it considering the size that it came in. I'll have to give it another try. I placed my order through DoorDash and will say that everything traveled well. That's extremely important for me when I place orders via food delivery apps. Definitely a place that I recommend!

I recently moved to the neighborhood and am less than 5 mins from this spot. My former coworker and I met up here a few weeks ago bc she also lives in Petworth just a bit further north. I had the breakfast bowl -- BIG portion; the tibs had great flavor and every bite was different - a little egg, a little guacamole, a little grain. I had to come back and try the avocado toast with turmeric goldenkraut and it didn't disappoint. If you don't like spicy things, the kraut has a bit of a kick I wasn't expecting! Got the chai both times - yum! Hits the spot The space is bigger than it looks from the outside -- 3 or so tables in the back, 3 in the front, a bar space AND an outdoor patio with three tables.

This restaurant blends two unique cuisines into its menu and they work harmoniously. I ordered the Tokyo Sushi platter with the Ethio Veggie platter. Both stood on their own, but complimented me very well after long bike ride. Mita Cafe served the best prepared sushi I've had in a long time. Generously sized, fresh, and more flavorful than expected. The veggie platter had the perfect amount of kick and texture. Each dish had unique flavor profile and were clearly fresh prepared. I recommend trying the Ethiopian tea too! Mita Cafe is owned and operated by a lovely couple honoring their respective cultures through their passion for food. If you're a sushi snob, I highly recommend you visit. If you're looking for a slam-dunk quality meal with a homemade feel, I recommend Mita.

They offer both Ethiopian food and Sushi, a combination I hadn't seen before. I came in for breakfast and got some ful, which was freshly cooked with spices ported over from the market section. It came with grilled bread, fresh garnishes, and a large quantity of what I take to be ayib or some similar fresh cheese. It was an impressive dish. I got some sambusas to go, which were spicy and hearty. The practicality was a bit of a struggle; they offer a QR code menu but I struggled to get service and there wasn't wifi that I could see. I got kind of slow and distracted service; my to-go sambusas were just sitting there ready and waiting for me and I had to go to the counter. It was a small business kind of vibe and I'd be happy to come back and try sushi.

The avocado toast topped with a perfectly poached egg topped with Japanese black sesame seeds is my go-to order, and the sandwiches are consistently good. Their cocktails are excellent, and the bar side makes a great venue for private parties or larger gatherings. I am apparently in the miniscule minority, but I find the drip coffee a bit too dark and somehow slightly burnt for my taste. Fortunately, they make an outstanding Dirty London Fog and a wonderful London Fog Chai Latte, either of which I'd happily order instead. All manner of alternative "milks" are available as are a pretty decent selection of local beers in their cooler if you are grabbing take out. Be prepared for a wait on weekends--this is one of Takoma Park's most popular brunch destinations. Like many cafés these days, it's a favorite of laptop-wielding remote workers, so tables can be at a premium. In my experience, though, solo diners are often gracious about moving to the communal table when they notice [or more likely are asked polietly if they wouldn't mind moving] a larger group waiting. It's just one more example of the friendly neighborhood atmosphere that keeps people coming back.
