A very sad "Cacio e pepe"
Ashley C.

Giving 2 stars because the server was very sweet so she deserves a star.. the ambiance is nice except the view into the kitchen i didnt find very appealing. but the food on the other hand, not good. We both ordered cacio e pepe, and we received glorified buttered noodles with pepper. I took like 2 bites and just pushed it to the side it tasted like something off the kids menu. It was not cacio e pepe. The burrata was good. Nothing special. I consider this extremely overpriced for the quality of the food. We definitely wont be returning. Quite a disappointing experience.

I'm shocked at how tasty the food here is. While fairly non-assuming, we came here mainly out of convenience/location on the island, but everything we tried was incredible. The real standout was the bone marrow pasta. SO umami. I think about this meal a lot and am shocked I haven't been able to find an Italian restaurant that rivals this in Manhattan... I will certainly be back the next time I am in the area.

This modern Italian American spot is serving up major flavor, every dish unique (special shoutout to the sticky calamari) . and perfectly seasoned - even down to the table bread with its honey and herb butter. The pastas were fresh and cooked to al dente perfection, and the meats cooked perfectly to temperature Our server was so friendly and helpful...we're a family of plate sharers...we always want to taste as much as we can. She helped us figure out the right portion sizes and quantities to order since they have options, and then they made sure we had sharing plates for all of our courses.

Dead bug in pasta

I'd give 0 stars if I could. Noisy dining room to start, and then we found DEAD BUGS in our pasta appetizer. We proceeded to tell our server about this and she took away our dish and said she would talk to the chef about comping our meal. She came back then to say that the chef would comp only our pasta and we would have to pay for the second appetizer we had already eaten before the pasta came out. Absolutely ridiculous!!!!! I literally could not continue with my meal because of how sick I felt. We were told that we could have the pasta comped and continue our meal, or leave. We of course decided to leave and will not be returning after paying $25 for our one appetizer and a gift card which we will not be using since we will not be back.

The food, service, ambience was good. They try hard to please, and the atmosphere is electric. Glad they're here in Harvey Cedars.

At that point it was a small restaurant, BYOB, but it was immediately apparent that real gourmet food had finally arrived on LBI. (I still remember their version of shrimp and grits from that time.) We no longer had to put up with the prevailing surf and turf that we had unfortunately become accustomed to. Since then they've moved to their current, much bigger space and have created a beautiful, vibrant, inside-ourside restaurant that still serves excellent food (their lumache is terrific--we try not to order it every time) and has expanded to include pizzas--thin crust and very tasty; every one we've tried has been delicious. So we would definitely recommend Black Eyed Susans. The staff is welcoming, friendly, well trained. This is now a big, beautiful destination restaurant. The pizzas and beer lower the price point.

This was very relaxing and I truly felt like I was transported to a resort. They do a great job of creating a little outdoor oasis. Once we were seated, we literally wanted to order the entire menu. Everything sounded outstanding that it was hard to choose. We settled on the seared tuna and a pizza as our apps. We also did indulge in an order of homemade sourdough because when in Rome! The pizza was by far my favorite. The crust was so thin and so crispy. You could tell all the ingredients were very fresh and the dough was perfect. For our mains, my fiancé had the swordfish special and I went with a crab cake. I love that I was able to get a single order instead of a double. It was the perfect amount of food after all the apps. We agreed the swordfish was outstanding. So moist and not dry whatsoever like it sometimes can be. The real highlight of the meals for me was the homemade soft serve. As a huge ice cream stan, this was the perfect ending to my meal.

The staff were welcoming, friendly and very attentive to our needs and requests. Especially our server Aydin and manager Nicole. More about these exceptional individuals later! One member of our party suffers from severe Celiac disease and it's always a challenge trying to find meals she can enjoy that have the least risk of cross contamination. Many restaurants have limited gluten free options or can only offer suggestions on which menu items can be made gluten free. But they rarely have dedicated cooking and preparation areas nor do they fully understand the disease. Wally's has actual gluten free menus! Breakfast, lunch and dinner menus! Each has a large selection of 'normal' meals that are made with gluten free breads, rolls...everything! Not only are the meals gluten free, but their preparation is so perfect (gluten free items such as breads need special attention to get the best taste, consistency and flavors...they can't be prepared like regular bread items). The gluten free meal was absolutely fantastic! All of our meals were fantastic! Delicious, plated wonderfully and perfectly proportioned. Our server Aydin was exceptional! Pleasant, friendly and extremely knowledgeable. His recommendations were perfect. Aydin took wonderful care of our party and made sure each order was perfect...with special attention to the gluten free meal! Aydin was a pleasure and his service was excellent! Nicole is the manager and she came and introduced herself. She is the perfect example of what a manager should be...friendly, engaging and gracious. Nicole showed us the importance Wally's places on providing excellent service and personalized care to each and every customer! Her knowledge of gluten free food preparation is extensive...and very much appreciated! Again...this was our first visit to Wally's and we can't wait to return. Thank you Wally's, thank you Aydin, thank you Nicole!

It was a wonderful evening; we had dinner on the porch, and our group was big enough that we took over the whole porch. Throughout the night, the experience was top notch! It's BYOB, so we had a bunch of bottles there, and the staff were great about keeping our drinks filled. They were also great about explaining what each of the dishes were, and there were so many! Everything was delicious - whether pasta, salad, main, dessert. I think I had some kind of beef dish, and it was really good and plentiful. Definitely would not be leaving hungry. One of the guys at dinner with us is from an Italian family, so he knows Italian food well, and he said the food was on point. I definitely agreed. The staff was very friendly as well; another guy on the trip with us went down to the kitchen and took some selfies with them, which was cool. Aside from that, though, they were very personable and helpful throughout the experience. They may have even sung at some point? Anyhow, great experience, and I think it would be a worthwhile visit even if not in the context of a large group making a big hubbub!
