+ My Gentleman had the bacon-wrapped shrimp and I had the camerones en crema + Cadillac margaritas. We really enjoyed our experience and the food. The service was immediate. The place is small and charming. They checked back often and the owner asked if we were on vacation and had a lovely chat with us. The waitress served a little girl near us a dish of ice cream piled high with whip cream. I'm not sure it was ordered and she was delighted. Pretty cute. I didn't expect much for Waldport, and would recommend Azul and go again. If there was a half-star option to award, I would say 3.5 stars. read more

Food was decent, drinks were decent, service was decent. I have only been here once but overall it was *just* decent. I prefer Fresh Mexican on the other side of Waldport, but my mom prefers Azul, so if you have a chance to try out both, go for it, but if you are only there long enough to try out one..... Meh.. nothing to write home about, but it was ok considering options are pretty limited here. They were fast, and the bartender lady was real cool! Unfortunately they forgot the taco on our order. I had a chile relleno (chile wasn't cooked enough) and a cheese enchilada. Both of them decent. Came with standard beans and rice. They messed up on my partner's order too. He asked for the special enchilada and he got the basic. I would say just double check your order, or pop over to the towns on either side. If you're dying for Mexican food, this place will get you through. read more

I consider myself something of a Mexican food connoisseur, and Azul Mexican Restaurant is easily at the top of my "Mexican Restaurants To Visit in Oregon" list. The atmosphere was very non-Mexican, almost like an English pub: there was a guy in the corner playing a guitar, there were little groups of people drinking their pints and cocktails, and friendly waitresses busily serving customers. This, however, did not distract from our experience there. The food was outstanding: The portions were fairly large (good value), the ingredients tasted fresh and recently prepared, and the chef clearly knew what he was doing. If I could give 10 stars I would! This place was recommended by a friend and they were right. This place was great! The place was busy but the wait wasn't long. The staff was busy but helpful and happy! Everyone in our party loved what they ordered and vowed to come back the next time in town and will recommend to others for sure. Just ate for the first time at Azul Mexican Restaurant. Absolutely delicious from the margarita's, to the spicy shrimp entrée to the flan with chocolate ice cream for dessert. I have never written a review before, but I had to this time. Service and the owner were polite and friendly. We will definitely be back again and again. The owners are clearly Latino. But the food is tailored to Americans who don't really like Mexican food. 4.50 for extra guacamole, ask three times for extra tortillas and napkins. The fajitas lacked any kind of flavor, and the salsa (only one type of salsa here) tasted like it came out of a can and had some sort of capsaicin added to it to give it heat. My husband & I had lunch here today for the first time and were very impressed. Aside from the clean & appealing interior and the pleasant staff, everything from the chips (warm, crisp, not too salty) to the entree elements were great. The meat in both the Chicken Mole and Chicken Enchilada was tender & moist. The tamale (not wrapped in corn husks, but with a delicate green sauce, who cares?) was the best I've ever had. Not good, really disappointed. I ordered steak tampiqueña which is carne asada with an enchilada. I have ordered this all over the country and it's a flank steak. What I received was two small slices of over cooked, grey roast beef. We were passing through Waldport and ordered take out otherwise I would have sent it back and spoken to the manager. read more

Used to come here all the time. But it's been about a year since my visit last week. The food used to be good, but what I received on Wednesday was absolutely atrocious. To start with, I ordered a small guacamole. What came to the table was about two tablespoons worth of yellow stuff with large chunks of onion and tomato. I immediately sent it back without even trying it. It was yellow for crying out loud. Guacamole should never be yellow. I ordered the carne asada tacos, and what was brought to me was three thick, REALLY REALLY greasy corn tortillas with chunks of nasty meat. Carne asada tacos should have lightly steamed or warmed tortillas, not grease-filled ones. The tortillas were so soaked with grease, that they were super shiny. I took one bite of the meat and sent it back. The plate was COATED in grease underneath the tacos. They were also sort of rolled up, and carne asada tacos should be served open-faced. VERY DISAPPOINTED and I won't be back. I was told the owners weren't there that day. Whoever was there shouldn't be allowed to cook. The waitress was nice and made me two great Cadillac margaritas, and that was the only thing that was good. I ended up going to Fresh Mexican immediately after leaving Azul and ordered some RIGHTEOUS carne asada tacos. That place knows how to make great food, but their margaritas are terrible. So have a margarita at Azul, but go eat at Fresh Mexican. I may come back for a margarita, but I'll never eat at Azul again. Extremely disappointed. I really wish I would've taken pictures. Oh, and the carne asada tacos at Fresh are a dollar less. MUCH BETTER food, for less money. Can't go wrong. read more

The other day my wife and I went to azul after hearing really great things about the food and service. Sadly dissapointed when the older Mexican waitress was less than friendly, we tried to ask a few questions about the food and either she didn't understand us or didn't care to answer. The other wait staff seemed much more happy and friendly. The food was so so maybe we'll come back and try something else on the menu, she could've had a rough day. read more

We stayed at the Cliffhouse on the other side of Waldport so it was a bit of a walk to get to Azul, but boy where I glad we didn't take the car. The Ultimate Margarita was worth the walk! We didn't really know what was good at this place, but we knew we wanted some seafood. Our waiter, Felipe, was gracious enough to tell us his favorites are seafood chimichanga and the prawn-something-something that my girlfriend had. They where both great eats. The portions where pretty large but I did managed to finish mine. After an 8 mile walk on beach earlier that day I needed (some of) the calories. read more

We ordered the mouth watering steak fajitas---so good in fact it has ruined us from eating them elsewhere (we have tried but no one has even compared to the flavor of Azul) they welcomed us right into the cozy restaurant and were extremely attentive to our table. read more

This is one of our go-to places when we come to the coast; we stay in Seal Rock just a few miles north of Waldport so Azul is a nice place to go if you want good, reasonably priced Mexican food. The fare is pretty standard but they have large portions and everything is fresh and tasty. Their margaritas are really yummy and they have a lot of flavors, food-wise I would recommend the fajitas and their guacamole is really great as well. Also the service is always quick and very friendly. This review is kind of terse but I really do enjoy Azul, considering it's one of the few restaurants in Waldport I'd say they're doing pretty well! read more

Visited 7/12/12 for dinner @6:30pm. Party of 3. This was our 1st visit here. Good service with few delays. Great chips(went through 3 baskets) My pollo mole was a bit sweeter than I like. Carne asada very bland - maybe even seasoned. My spouses fajitas were spicier than she liked but by far the best meal of the three. Diet cola weaker than normal. Friendly and attentive wait staff. Portions were average sized but not skimpy ar all. We three were full on exit with all plates consumed - no carrout required. We went here with a Party of 10 including a couple of kids. We called ahead and they were ready for us. Taylor was the hostess and super nice. Kelli was our server and is an obvious veteran. She took really good care of us and especially the kids. We had a variety of items and no complaints. The fajitas were really good. The had Pacifico on tap which is unusual. This is the third and last time I will give this restaurant a try. As always, the food was bland and tasteless. Not a hint of seasoning in sight. If it were not for the salt and pepper on the table, and the side order of sour cream and guacamole (no, it does not come with the meal unless ordered as a extra) there would be no flavor to the food at all. But the last straw was today when my wife bit into her taco and pulled out a large piece of curlex steel wool. We immediately called this to the server's attention, who then notified the cook, but no apology was given nor was a comp offered (which is standard practice when something about a meal is clearly unsatisfactory). I paid the bill and left, but will definitely not be coming back. I simply cannot afford to take the chance of swallowing anything unfit or hazardous for human consumption. Fantastic food! A little on the pricey side but you're at the coast so what does one expect. The staff was super attentive and playful.
