I'd like to update my previous review. I have been to Azteca several times in the last 5 months, both with and without my daughter. First of all, the salsa has been FAR better on most of those occasions - nicely seasoned, chunky, and with a little heat. Secondly, I gave them a second try on my favorite meal, the carnitas. MUCH better! The first time I ordered them (last year?), they were mostly fat. Now, they're well-seasoned (although my last trip was overly salty) and meaty. No more huge chunks of fat being served on my plate. Thirdly, the rice is a HUGE improvement. Enough that I order an extra side of rice now when I split a plate with a friend or my daughter. The beans are still a bit on the heavy/salty side ... but everything else is vastly improved. So much so, in fact, that my book club has decided to hold our monthly meetings at Azteca. We meet on Saturday nights, and we tend to get silly and loud and have a lot of fun. The atmosphere at Azteca allows us to do this without feeling inappropriately loud. The owner has stopped in to see us a couple of times, and the staff are always wonderful. We couldn't ask for a better place to spend our one night out a month. Oh, and the sweet tea? Not as good as the margaritas, but still pretty dang sweet. ;) read more

Beware of shady billing practices at this place. On a recent visit on "children eat free night", they added on some fraudulent charges hidden in the sales tax. They add in the cost of the kids meals when figuring the sales tax. On the credit card bill they show a credit for the kids meals, but not the total they figured the tax from. I never received an itemized bill, and the figures show we were charged a bit more than the 6% required. When I inquired about it later, they blamed it on their computer! Otherwise, food was good, service adequate. It only cost me a couple of bucks for this lesson of consumer beware!! I'll be on guard in the future. read more

I don't usually give bad reviews, I read bad reviews, and still give restaurants a chance. But the food here is terrible. They use a frozen guacamole, that looks like baby food. The salsa tastes like spaghetti sauce with cilantro. The Margaritas are disgusting. It taste like straight sweet and sour mix, with no tequila. So I ordered Nachos, with they assumption "they cant mess up nachos." Well I was wrong. Overcooked chicken, and steak. No fresh ingredients. A cheap white cheese sauce. My Mom ordered fajitas, the onions and tomatoes were mushy, and again the steak was overcooked. I'm not writing this review to bash this restaurant, I'm doing it in hopes that the owners will read this and make some changes, and maybe try using some fresh ingredients. read more

As far as mexican restaurants around Crestview which currently there are 4 that I know of and it's the better one. Very fast service and consistent with their food. However, the salsa seems on some days to be very flavorful and others it tastes like tomato sauce with a hint of salt. It's not the best mexican restaurant I've been too, but it will definitely do when looking for a quick fix when craving decent mexican food. read more

The chips and salsa tasted store bought. The kids had boneless wings in mild buffalo sauce which tasted more like sweet and sour. I ordered the queso dip and it just tasted like plain melted cheese. Last but not least, my $10 top shelf margarita was strong on alcohol but lacked any taste. The reason I have given two stars was because our waiter was great and very attentive. Our waiter was great, attentive and friendly. We went on a Monday and they have awesome margarita specials. $1.50 for regular margarita and $2.50 for frozen, but this is limited to the lime flavor only. Frozen margarita was pretty good so I'd go back for that alone. Ordered the chicken enchilada which was probably one of the worst ones I've ever had. It came with shredded chicken on the inside with no cheese on top or inside, and a very bland sauce that topped the enchilada. I'm not very picky when it comes to food but I'd say I've had frozen enchiladas that you can cook in the oven at home that had more flavor than this. My fiancé had a chicken burrito that he did enjoy, however. Overall I was a little disappointed, but prices are decent. I'll probably give it a second try but skip the enchilada. read more

I have eaten here 3 times and the first 2 times the food was good and the service was good. The 3rd time however, the food was still good, however I have a problem with whoever put in my debit card. I had written in a tip amount and it was a little less than a full 20% because the service wasn't as good. When I checked my bank account a couple of days later I discovered that someone had helped themselves to adding $3+ to my total and increased their tip. We came here after being it was recommended by a friend. Our experience was not very great. I ordered the enchiladas and my husband ordered chicken fajitas tacos only after trying to order carne guisada and having the waitress look at him like he was crazy. We received our food and it was just poorly made and presentation was horrible. The beans were bitter and tasted like chemicals or burnt. My enchilada were so greasy. A little pricey, and the food isn't the greatest.The service was okay. Had a few problems with the food over the course of several visits. Once there were eggshells in the eggs. Not just one or two, but several, enough that nearly every bite was crunchy. We had several good meals there, but after a certain incident we haven't gone back. My husband found a huge wire from a metal brush (it was about seven inches long) in his food. He showed someone who apologized and his meal was free, which was a good thing because he wasn't interested in finishing it. I've eaten here twice within the last month. The first time I ordered a chimichanga and couldn't eat it, it was absolutely horrible. The manager said that the regular cook had the day off, that was a Tuesday. Now I'm here on a Saturday and still the food is horrible. They do salsa, chips, and drinks well. I ordered tacos today, trying to keep it simple. To the cook I suggest some fresh garlic, put jalapeños in the pico de gallo, try some Mexican spices such as chili pequene and chili caribe, cumin, just about anything other than what's being used. The only reason I'm giving this place 2 stars is because we had a decent waiter. He was very polite and attentive. Let me get started with the place itself. There's carpet. Nothing says gross to me like carpet in a restaurant! Very unsanitary. The food all looked like it was heated in the microwave not to mention the way it taste. The beans were straight out of a can. The only good thing were the chips that they serve at the beginning. The seats in the booths are so worn out that the cushion is caved in and you feel the edge of the seat poking your thighs. My husband ordered quesadillas and it was just melted cheese in a folded tortilla. Usually quesadillas are warmed up to where they're a little golden brown and crunchy. These were far from that. The food felt like school lunch. I've had way better food from Taco Bell. I usually never write reviews but this was a bad experience and I hope this helps if you're trying to decide where to eat in Crestview. read more
