I loooove Thai food, and this place holds me over when I'm home. My family rarely gets takeout, but when we do, we get it here. They do deliver, which is unheard of around here, and thus awesome, but we've always just ordered and picked it up, and it's always ready as soon as we get there. This place was my first rendezvous with tom yum, and now I just can't get enough. We also like to order a bunch of entrees, all yummy, and share. The pad thai has tended to be hit or miss, but everything else seems to always be pretty darn good. Not the best Thai I've ever had, but definitely not bad for shoreline CT! read more

When I woke up this morning, the last place I expected to be at this time of night was in CT. However after our ferry was cancelled and 95 turned into a river, this became the only viable solution after caulking the wagon failed. See you tomorrow block island! Hope we make it before the nuptials... Back to the restaurant. Our first waiter took our drink order and then was never to be seen again. Literally I think he my have been a guest playing a prank on us. The drinks were apparently difficult, especially the two glasses of wine which they may have been crushing grapes in the back which would explain the lengthy delay. The food itself was delicious and well worth the high yelp rating, however the fact they served us in two courses was odd - and by that I mean the two ladies were served our main courses a good 15 minutes before the guys. I'm all for keeping chivalry alive, but seriously? In summary, good food and very friendly yet interesting service. Ayuthai is a restaurant most people drive by on their way into Guilford without even noticing or thinking about twice. I often rave about this place to people in town and often they respond: "oh THAT place, never tried it." Everyone can picture the blue sign in their mind's eyes but no one has actually ever been here. It's just far enough outside of Guilford for most people not to bother, I imagine. But I'm here to tell you that you *should* bother. Every dish I've tried here has been far above and beyond any Thai food I have had before, both in CT and on the West Coast. The depth of flavor, balance of spices, and preparation of meats, vegetables, and noodles is just top notch. The portions are good value; you won't leave hungry. I will say that you should eat in rather than take out, if you can. The food just hasn't been as good for takeout, but that's probably because it doesn't stay as hot and this type of cuisine just doesn't travel too well in my opinion. Noodle dishes come out shaped like the containers and stuck together, curries become room temp. It's delicious all the same, though. We stopped by for a quick bite and pleasantly surprised by the service as well as the food. The drinks were on the stronger side which was a pleasant surprise. Mai tai & Plum Wine must haves. We ordered Basil Chicken & the chefs special which was seafood salad with ginger lemon grass excellent both were excellent. We were told they were medium in heat, it was more hot than medium. Usually happy with food & service but not today. Noodle entree was inedible due to drenched in oil and tasteless. When I requested refund, the woman server was not very sympathetic and though she did eventually refund me the cost of the entree, it was after some difficulty. She at first tried to deny the issue saying it was because of my choice of noodle. Needless to say, this was irrelevant. The lack of flavor and excessive amount of oil that was the problem. The noodle shape had nothing to do with it. She should have just apologized right away on behalf of the kitchen and offered either another entree option or a full refund. Had a few options delivered the other night. Pad-Thai was dry and the sauce for the chicken satay and crab Rangoon was too sweet. Also chicken satay didn't come as pictured, with only one sauce? And was dry. Tom yum too sweet and they added shrimp when I asked for it to be subbed out. Not enough salt/seasoning/ or flavor in any dish. I also wish I knew I would have received rice with my order because I wouldn't have ordered additionally. Glad they are open during this time but wouldn't recommend outside a pandemic. read more

Good Thai food in a nice atmosphere. Best crab Rangoon's I have had and the main dish comes with chop sticks. Quite a wait for service. On the other side of the restaurant is take out service, so while eating we were not interrupted by in/out traffic which was frequent. Will have to try it again. I regularly order from Ayuthai and sometimes go in for lunch. This time I had: Summer rolls, Red curry shrimp and drunken noodles with tofu delivered on a Saturday night. I've had the summer rolls elsewhere but these were so fresh, such crisp greens. We absolutely loved our food- I only took away 1 star because the spice is inconsistent. I LOVE spicy, but we didn't ask for anything out of he ordinary this Time. both the curry and the drunken noodles had much more heat than they have ever had in the past. My BF loves spice too and he thought it was super hot. We loved it but don't know what to expect. Sometimes we order to share with kids - my son loves drunken noodles - we could not have shared this time. read more

My Pad Thai was delicious, probably the best I have had of the many Thai restaurants I've tried so far. My father ordered the Thai PHO Noodle Soup and I swear he would've swam in it if he could've. One of my very favorite places on the shoreline. My wife and I often get Thai food when traveling and Ayu Thai is among the very best we've had- we are lucky to have it within 30 minutes of our home. Excellent experience! Food was fresh and delicious. Staff was extremely cordial and friendly. I had the paradise shrimp and my husband has the crispy beef special. The owner came over to our table to show us the proper way to experience the crispy beef dish and to check on us. Headed to Ayuthai on a Saturday night at 6, always a good test for a kitchen. We've been several times previously, but this is my first review. The place was about 80% full and we were seated right away. We've always found the wait staff here to be courteous and attentive, and this time was not an exception. They took our drink orders and returned quickly with the beer and wine we ordered. I immediately regretted my choice of beer when I saw the guy at the next table had a huge martini. However, I didn't take it from him as he asked for NO olives. Insanity. We started with the Thai staple chicken satay. It was perfectly cooked, tender and great with the peanut or cucumber dipping sauces. For the main course I ordered Duck Ga Prow, which is duck with a mixture of vegetables and basil in a sweetish (not Swedish) sauce. The duck was very good - not fatty or cooked to death. The vegetables were not overcooked either and the sauce was savory and a little sweet. Good stuff. My wife ordered shrimp red curry. The mixture of accompanying vegetables was nothing unusual but they were nicely cooked. Not easy to do when some require varying times to properly cook. There were six large shrimp. I think they would be better off using smaller shrimp and giving more of them. The larger shrimp give a better presentation I guess. The curry sauce could have been thicker - it was watery. Maybe that's how it's served in Thailand. But I thick a slightly thicker (no I don't mean like turkey gravy) sauce with more body would have stuck to everything better, not just laid in a pool in the serving dish. For afters we each had Mango with Sticky Rice. Ripe mangos and that warm rice with the cream of coconut sauce on top... you can't go wrong. Good stuff. All in all this is one of the best Thai restaurants around. I would definitely give it a try. read more

It's a nice place, pretty standard Thai food for the US. Sometimes standard Thai is what you want though, so will be going back. We were disappointed in the Pad Thai which was flabby, but the green curry was very good. People at other tables were really enjoying their desserts so will be trying that next time. read more

I'm addicted to Thai. I've tried nearly every Thai restaurant on the shoreline. So far, Ayuthai is the best yet. The atmosphere is very relaxing. The service is wonderful. The serving sizes are really great. Oh, and the food, that's phenomenal too. I get the mango curry almost every time we go. It's incredible. We are regulars of Ayuthai - at least 1 visit a week and 1 takeout a week (yes, way too much) - but - we also went Friday after Thanksgiving! The service was absolutely horrible (not the first time, but we let it go before) - but this time - we were highly disappointed - we saw 4 groups walk out - no one waited on them - Mexay hired non Thai employees for the first time - 2 young girls - HORRIBLE at service and didn't care (though they gave the impression they were working hard). They weren't working smart - I thought I would get a break on the bill - unfortunately, Mexay could care less (and that was VERY DISAPPOINTING) - may not be returning anytime soon - I could overlook the poor service, waiting nearly an hour for food, appetizers coming AFTER our dinners - but I cannot overlook being ignored by the manager, Mexay and his obvious "I don't care" attitude - not the way to treat loyal customers! So sad, because we REALLY love the food, it is good food! read more

Cute quaint with very attentive service . This has quickly become my favorite Thai spot on the shoreline. Portions are nice sized and everything is layered in when cooked. My only suggestion is pass on the pad tai and go for the drunken noodles . Save room for the mango and sticky rice ! read more
