Not only was Coco "cutie pie ;)" a fantastic server, she went above and beyond in making sure we were well taken care of. I have an avocado allergy that makes certain sushi difficult but she consistently reassured me that they take allergies seriously. The restaurant itself was very well kept, clean, and very comfortable. Visited this past Saturday and I can confirm that the sashimi is still the best in town. You'd think sashimi would be one of those items that's always consistently good across sushi restaurants but - no. Sometimes it's too firm, lacks flavor, or even worse, the texture is mush (sign of spoiled / old fish). I've always been wowed by the high quality of fish they use at Ayame and it's what keeps me coming back. It's also why I ask for double sashimi in my bento because I'm here for the good stuff. The miso this time around was fairly diluted. Not sure what was going on there. The side salad was good and always a nice palate cleanser. My wife ordered the bento as well and she asked for sashimi as was as a Philadelphia roll. There was something "off" with her roll. The smoked salmon tasted like it had an artificial smoke flavoring added to it which threw off the balance of the other flavors. Swing and a miss on this one. The ambiance itself hasn't changed a bit. Still a no frills place that focuses on the food and I appreciate that. The service was quick and efficient. It's possible to get in, order, eat, and leave, all within 45 minutes, which is what we did since they were close to closing their lunch service. I've been here once or twice in person a couple years ago and recently ordered through DoorDash. If you go in person it's in a shopping plaza near a gas station/convenience store and the Walmart Neighborhood Market. So parking is plentiful and easy. For DoorDash I ordered various nigiri and two speciality rolls. Scrolling through DoorDash's menu a lot of the special rolls are spicy. I think we settled on two non-spicy rolls (modified spider roll and lion king roll). The fish on the nigiri was fresh and the rice to fish ratio was good. They offer the typical fish (salmon, tuna, unagi, shrimp, etc.) The special rolls are very heavy on the sauce. So you likely won't need to dip them in soy sauce or wasabi. For me that covers up the taste of the fish more than I'd like. But that's personal preference. Ayame is worth a try! read more

Ordered the lunch bento box which is always my go to when visiting. For my two selections I went with the Philadelphia roll and the mixed sashimi. The bento box also comes with a mixed salad, rice, and miso soup for $15.50. The value of the lunch bento box is stellar with today's economy. My party of 3 arrived at 2:40 which was 20 mins until closing down for lunch which Is typically something I'd never do but I am visiting from out of town and hit some unexpected traffic. I decided to drive by and when I saw two other parties still eating we decided to go in. My only complaint was feeling rushed while ordering and eating. I do know it's my fault for coming in so close to close but they always have the right to turn customers away if they want to leave at 3 exactly. As a sushi fanatic, it is my duty to try any sushi place that is recommended to me. So when my sister spoke highly of this place, I was game. We placed a to go order of different things for me to try. When I picked up the order, the owners greeted me kindly and were lively and sociable. I can tell they put an effort in getting to know their customers in a genuine way. One of them even brought my to go order to my car since it was a big one. So all in all, the service was superb. Girlyman - The restaurant does not PLAY with this roll. This is the signature roll of the restaurant, and it absolutely delivers. The Girlyman is a perfect balance of flavors, and the sauce is absolutely heaven. Beautiful decoration as well. Bake Scallop - This roll takes a standard California Roll and adds its own twist by adding scallops and spicy mayo to elevate it. Saucy, pure deliciousness. We made a take out order right during the usual food rush hour on Friday night, and they let us know that it would only be 30 minutes! My family loves the 2 choice bentos. Their absolute favorites are the tempura and the hibachi chicken. The chicken had grill marks that added that charred flavor to the chicken. I tried the tonkatsu donburi with egg and it was SO GOOD. Heading back after spending the day visiting our mom in the hospital in San Francisco and we were exhausted and starving!!! Yelp search found us a place along our route back to Sacramento; Ayame Sushi. We stopped for dinner on the way. Our first time visiting this place, and I must say, it was a great experience! Even though they were close to closing they welcomed us inside. It's a cute little place! Comfy seating, sushi bar in back, just an overall chill atmosphere. We started with miso soup while waiting for our appetizer. The broth was rich a flavorful and VERY soul healing. It was the perfect start to our meal. We then had the Mixed Tempura appetizer, which was delicious; batter was light and satisfyingly crisp; not at all greasy, the dashi dipping sauce the perfect complement to the crispy fried veggies. My sister had the Mixed Tempura dinner for her entree, my niece had the Chicken Teriyaki dinner, and I had the Chicken Teriyaki and Tuna Sashimi. The chicken teriyaki was perfectly grilled with a nice char while the sauce lent just the right amount of sweet and savory, and I like that they didn't try to drown the chicken in sauce. The entrees all came with a mixed field green salad with a creamy mayo based dressing; it TASTED like it had ginger in it? It was quite tasty, even for someone who doesn't normally eat dressing on salad. The tuna sashimi was absolutely fantastic, there is nothing like seafood on the West Coast in my opinion - VERY Fresh!! The sashimi was served with pickled ginger and wasabi. To round out the plate you get a nice little mound of Japanese white rice. It was all so delicious! After a long day, it was nice to stop for a quick recharge. Thanks so much Ayame! For what Japanese restaurants we have in the area, I think this is one of the best places around. I'm not into the gimmick of all you can eat sushi, so this place is perfect. When we arrived, they seemed pretty busy. Luckily, the customers waiting around were waiting for their to go orders and not a table. We were seated quickly and had our orders taken shortly after. Hidden gem in Vacaville! Normally my go to sushi restaurant in Vacaville is Fuji Sushi since it's AYCE and excellent quality. However we wouldn't make it in time and since it's the pandemic, best not to go to an AYCE. So pull out the handy reviews from my Yelp friends and others and ended up at Ayame. Plenty of parking in the lot that they share with a Walmart Grocery store. Went in and were seated immediately in a corner far from other tables. Every other table was sectioned off with caution tape so people couldn't sit there and they maintained the minimum 6 feet distance. We were given paper menus (probably what they use for takeout) and ordered our drinks and food. One of my friends, Bob, ordered edamame which was excellent. It was not only salted but also roasted. I'd definitely order that the next time I go! Bob also got gyoza which was good too. My Yelp friend, Asianae, ordered the lunch bento box with teriyaki salmon and spicy tuna. I ordered the lunch bento box with the teriyaki salmon and the mixed tempura. The bento boxes came with a salad, miso soup and a small serving of rice (which was perfect for me). Everything was fresh and tasty. The salmon was very well cooked, flavorful and lacked the oceany taste that some times accompanies seafood that have been frozen or are old. Asianae said her spicy tuna was excellent. I could say the same for my mixed tempura! Lightly breaded and fried to perfection and not oily at all!! The service was excellent and we got to chat and joke a bit with the sushi chef who was probably an owner. The bathroom was also very clean. Nice evening, great service. Is this the most top of the line sushi in the area, it is not. However, the fish was all fresh, flavorful, and served in a reasonable time frame. I tried the maguro nigiri, the cherry blossom roll and the spicy tuna roll. All of them tasted great. The rice was a little thick and a little dry so it overwhelmed the flavors a bit, but that's a very small complaint. The cherry blossom roll was also just a roll without much fish on top, surprising because most places serve it as more of a blossom. The woman who waited on my was warm and friendly and is clearly loved by her regulars and the rest of the staff was helpful and there were plenty of people to keep the place running. Our last visit to Ayame this past Friday was awful. We ordered a Nigiri and sashimi dinner. After my wife complained to me that her Hamachi tasted like it was bad, I decided to inspected my Hamachi. It really smelled bad and super fishy. All the redness you see in a nice Hamachi nigiri was all brown. It also looked like the sushi chef had trimmed the brownness away as well. I should've returned our meal but I really felt sorry for them. Usually this restaurant is full. This past Friday it was virtually empty, only 2 tables had people. This will be the last time we go to this sushi restaurant. This was the second time over the past year we have had bad fish. Go to this place if you want good sushi but don't mind getting flat out disrespected and talked to in such a rude manner it turns into a standoffish situation. We came in for dinner on a a Sunday evening. They were not very busy this evening, so we were seated quickly. Ayame is a small restaurant (doesn't have too many tables) in the Walmart Neighborhood Market Shopping Center on the corner of Elmira Rd and Nut Tree Rd. We ordered Seafood Salad, Mixed Tempura and Takoyaki for appetizer. Main course were Futomaki Roll, Salmon Teriyaki Rice Bowl and 3 different Bento Boxes(choose 2 items in the list, comes with miso soup and salad). Food was good overall, just the potion sizes on a few items were a little small. The Salmon Teriyaki Rice Bowl which had a large portion of rice, but the piece of salmon was pretty small and could have benefited for a little more Teriyaki sauce over the rice. The Futomaki Roll only had 5 pieces, but were decent in size. The Takoyaki only had 5 pieces which was an odd number. The bento boxes had decent potions of salad, Tonkatsu and sushi rolls, but the Beef Teriyaki portion was lacking. The Mixed Tempura was a decent portion, but only had 1-2 of each vegetables and 4 shrimps. Some of the main courses came out before the appetizers, but I noticed a lot of restaurants lately have been doing that (not sure why). All the food items had good flavors and not bland or overpowering. They seem to get a lot of regulars as the owner (Winnie) seems to know a lot of the patrons. She does make her rounds to all the tables to chitchat (some people may like that, some people may not). Overall service was good. There are quite a few Japanese Restaurants in Vacaville, but Ayame is one of the better ones for taste of food. read more

With 80's pop music streaming, you might be inspired to sing-a-long to one of the many hits, but focus, there's food to be eaten. Truth be told, I've only been here for lunch and for good reason, just like their streaming radio, Ayame's lunch Bento Box menu rocks. On my last visit I was all about their crispy yet juicy and tender Tonkatsu along side a California Roll. This is a great find located in a mini-mall shopping area near a Walmart Neighborhood Market. There's ample parking. This is one of the first restaurants we dined at before we moved to Vacaville three years ago. Since then, we have returned numerous times always satisfied. The restaurant ambiance is very chill, a little dark, with room to seat around 40-50 people. There's a bar with a TV. There is a young waitress that is always very nice and friendly. The manager (?) lady is also nice and if you want to know about a certain menu item and how it's prepared, she'll gladly tell you. I'm a bento box person and am not fond of sushi. (Sorry, sushi lovers). I always order the chicken teriyaki and veggie tempura combo. The chicken is cooked well and not dry. I like my teriyaki sauce on the side and for some reason, I keep forgetting to make that special request when I order it. The side salad, soup and rice are well portioned. Salad was not watery as some Japanese establishments tend to make it. Restaurant and restrooms are clean. We'll definitely return! read more

Not as great or as much as it looks. The katsu was ok, it had a nice crunch but was bland. The spicy tuna roll was ok. After I ate my meal, I still didn't feel satisfied. I thought it was just me, but then my kids said the same thing. Their dished didn't have that much meat. They both ordered chicken teriyaki. The service is slow and rude. The tempura was good but two of the takoyaki balls had filling that was a bit too chewy. We also had some cooked rolls and some raw rolls. They didn't have a huge selection of raw rolls. Most of them had imitation crab. The rolls where nicely presented but too big to fit into your mouth and the rice was just mush and translucent. Might give it another try and maybe try some of the sashimi and nigiri and other kitchen dishes. Ambiance was quiet but people surrounding us were ordering soups, salads and California rolls. This was referred to us by our friend which one of their avid customers and of course would love to try them. It's my first time ordering in this restaurant. As always, I've tried our favorite rolls. What can I say, they didn't disappoint us. It tastes right and really good. Now, we have an additional favorite sushi place in town. I would recommend you to try them, you will surely love them too. Wow, absolutely phenomenal! Decided to come here after my graduation today, and not gonna lie, I was a little off put by the location. From the outside it looks like a restaurant you'd absolutely avoid, however upon entering, it's a pleasantly nice sized place and a really quiet ambience. We were warmly greeted by the waitress (she was amazing!!!!), and we were attended to so fast and quick. And let me tell you, the food? A M A Z I N G!
