Love this place! Super fresh and YUMMY food. I've been many many times and they have a fantastic char cheese in their macs and on their sandwiches. For appetizers I recommend the pretzels and Buffalo Cauliflower. I really like the berry salad but have also tried the Mac and cheese and burger, have never been disappointed! read more

Holy cow this place is good! Loved the food, great menu! Even better bourbon list and damn good old fashioned! Tried 3 different apps, had a burger and that was also outstanding. Service was great, look forward to going back soon! read more

Best hamburger i have had in a long time. Also very nice employees. Everyone enjoyed their food and will definitely go back again

This was my and my husbands first time at Char. Service was great and our drinks were exactly what we expected. We shared the lobster rolls and upgraded from chips to fries. We were very disappointed in the amount of lobster in each roll for the price. Would try a different entrée if we visit again. read more

Went here around 2 and they only had a minimal brunch Menu? My food was ok. Super dark... like could not see anything at all. Would maybe try again? read more

Always 5 stars!! Glad to see Lauren behind the bar! Nothing beats their Char burger. But they've got great a lot of great food!! Get on in here! read more

Great food and ambiance. Original dishes, great beer list and spirits. Highly recommend

Sub par bar food with the exception of the salmon. Really underwhelmed. Service was just okay, drinks were fine. Steak was overdone, fries weren't what I was expecting. read more

Threid visit with same result. Ordered medium-rare burger, well-done and dry, bacon well-done too. Service and chips were great.

Cocktails and food are delicious. Servers top notch. We go there whenever we are in River.

Went for Whiskey Wednesday to get some Old Forester single barrel as advertised on their website. When I got there they said they switched out to Buffalo Trace. Very disappointed. Food was good. read more

My wife and I love this place. Creative drink selections. A huge choice of whiskies. We enjoyed the employees and food!

I love Char! I've been a couple times for dinner. This was my first time going for Brunch and it was just as good as their dinners. Everything was very yummy :) Waffles are a little more crunchy that I usually like which is fluffy but with that being said they were still good! read more

Underwhelmed. We had been wanting to visit this place for some time since we had heard so many good things about it, but what a disappointment. We ordered the yum yum shrimp appetizer to start. Presentation was beautiful but the breading was hard & thick like it was a frozen product. Yum yum sauce tasted like ketchup & mayonnaise mixed together. For our mains I opted for the lobster & scallop risotto, my wife ordered the char burger. The risotto had a weird texture like overcooked clumped rice, not smooth and creamy. The asparagus was woody like they used the bottom of the stem. My wife's burger was cold, hard and overcooked with no seasoning at all. Both our plates were cold, like they had sat in the window too long. Very disappointing experience overall especially for the prices they are charging. With all the dining choices around Lakewood we will not be returning to Char. read more

Vit was such a great waiter and really made the experience more enjoyable. The food and drinks were amazing, highly recommend the banana bread old fashioned (seasonal). read more

Get the lobster rolls! Or the charcuterie board! Or the char burger! Super friendly wait staff and great food

My wife and I have stopped in a couple of times (including opening day) for a dram or two, and each time the service was impeccable, the drinks were delectable, and the atmosphere was relaxing. The bartenders are well-versed in the world of whisk(e)y, which makes for great conversation, so be sure to ask for recommendations on cocktails and pours. The Maplehattan comes highly recommended for those with a sweet tooth, but it's also a fun twist on the classic Manhattan. I tend to go for neat pours, and the selection is a sight to behold. Save room for at least one dram on the more expensive end; you won't be disappointed. read more

Just had the walleye special. Fantastic! The Hey Jealousy gin cocktail was also wonderful. And the Patriots are losing on the TV at the bar. Life is good! read more

Good food, meh service. Love the Mac n cheese. Good brunch and delish Bloody Mary "bar" (create your own). Cool vibes. Suggest calling for reservations if you come for brunch. Pretty cocktails also read more

Great food, clean, good atmosphere, and the staff have been very nice every time I visit.

Great food and wonderful service! The Mac and cheese with steak was delicious!! One of our party left their cc on the table and a server met us in the parking lot to return the card. read more

Staying in Cleveland near the airport, I looked on yelp to locate a restaurant nearby. Char caught my eye. I can say the quick drive to Rocky River is well worth it. I found the town to be charming and Char to be excellent. The retro feel of the place was welcoming. The Mac n Cheese with short rib and mushrooms was incredibly tasty and plentiful. The whiskey choices outnumber the beer selections. The staff was friendly, informative and seemed to appreciate the customers. I recommend this to travelers and locals alike. read more

Char accommodated my 30th birthday party and I was extremely happy with the experience. The huge table by the front windows is perfect. Everything on the charcuterie board was great. I think amongst all of us we tried every drink on the drink menu - all exceeded expectations, and there are so many whiskey flights to choose from and i got to try so many whiskeys i hadn't had yet. The lobster mac and cheese was definitely the favorite, and the char burger is super unique and totally instagram worthy and tastes as good as it looks! Being born and raised in rocky river and coming back years later to find a really high quality restaurant like char in my hometown makes me super proud. read more

I love Char! The atmosphere is great, staff is professional/friendly, and food/drinks are amazing!!

Super cute new place in the old Sweet Melissa's location. We stopped in there on the way home from my sons hockey game on a Sunday right as they were opening for the day. So yes, we did have our 6 & 9 year old kids with us. We were the only folks there, which was kind of nice. The bar area is big and definitely a place we'd like to visit without the kids! Very good draft beer selection as well as whiskeys and craft cocktails! There is not a kids menu but we managed to find something our picky kids would eat: a plain cheeseburger and big bowl of the plain Mac & cheese, both of which were delicious. The char cheese sauce for the fries and chips was also really yummy. My daughter, the pickier of the two, ordered the pretzel sticks with cheese sauce. The pretzel sticks were good but more like bread sticks than hot pretzels. My husband and I will definitely be back but just without the kids! Also - only other constructive criticism is that the left stall in the women's room does not have a light in it so it was quite dark in there. read more

The food was terrific and I really enjoyed the Hey Jealousy cocktail. The goat cheese appetizer was fabulous! However, the service was sporadic, as our server seemed to disappear from time to time. read more

Really good cocktails! We got the julep and the night one, as well as the mussels and burger. The burger was pretty standard. Great service. I'd like to try the max n cheese! read more

Food and service were great! Whiskey prices were a tad bit on the high side for what they offer. Not a negative, but just be aware. Overall great experience! Staff were masked, place was clean and not crowded. read more

Love this place - great food and great vibe. Headed for brunch and will be back with a group! Our server, John was the bomb!

Pretty solid food. Nothing over the top. Good bourbon selection. It's in rocky river. Lots of competition.

Heard about the high-end prime beef and seafood selections available at this place and mistakenly assumed it is a "special occasion" kind of place. Came here for that reason and dressed to match. Come to find out, we were wrong about the clientele/ambience expectations....this was mostly a twenty-something crowd in jeans/t-shirts plus a large family with little kids running around. As much as the menu has high-end entrees, it seems they sell mostly burgers and fries. Nothing wrong with that! Just don't expect a high-end steakhouse crowd and experience. That said, the food and service was excellent! Great bar selections - we got wine and cocktails plus a whiskey flight. The prime filet and prime ribeye were prepared as asked and were worth the premium price. Twin lobster tails are always great! The sides were unique and very good. Again - great food & drink and great service are worth the trip, but you may have a Cabin Club-like dinner in a TGI Friday's-like crowd. read more

Really cool concept to Rocky. The food was awesome- had seafood chowder & lobster rolls. Also tried the MezHattan- was strong but great!! read more

What a gem! Delicious food, all items ordered were excellent. Incredible service by Rose. Super friendly and efficient. Clean and well spaced. Bar is beyond well stocked and has ample seating. Good music played at perfect low volume not to override conversation. I plan to return many times! Well done. Highly recommend. read more

First time trying Char was a delightful experience! We got carry out and agreed the fries were the best we have had since doing all carry out orders since March. We ordered a burger and fries, and a steak salad and everything was delicious! Looking forward to ordering again! read more

My wife and I have seen the reviews and tv commercials which lead to our excitement about celebrating my birthday dinner there. The atmosphere was fine and upscale. The service was slow Even tho we were the only diners there at 3 30 pm Tuesday a12/21. We started off with a pretzel which was over priced and tasted like a donut. $10 We each had a bowl of French onion soup which was tasteless . 10$ each ...it had a tiny piece of cheese balanced on what apppeared to be pita bread with shoestring onions on topfloating in HP the center which tasted like the donut pretzel ( obviously fried in the same grease). My wife received 17 small brussel sprouts served with THREE QUARTER sized scallops and risotto for $34 ...when asked about the scallop portions the response was "that is normal"... I had the Rib-eye which was f It was served ala carte ...I had roasted cauliflower for $7 nothing special Drinks were fine and priced about normal Overall we are extremely disappointed with the experience , quality and especially the scallop portions read more

Ordered curbside pickup, but saw that the inside of the restaurant is very well spaced out. We loved our meal and it was very reasonably priced! Will definitely be coming back to Char! read more

Great setup, atmosphere, music, and class asthetics. Its overpriced though, $7 for a basic blonde ale is aggressive. Hard to find any drink for less than $7 which is a big problem. This is Rocky River, OH not Manhattan, NY. read more

The goat cheese appetizer was fantastic! Great texture and taste + the honey from actual piece of honeycomb was a nice addition. I had the lobster rolls served cold - did not get the romaine lettuce or bacon on them but they were both delicious - the pepperdew aioli was a great addition. read more

The food and service has always been fantastic. However, making a large party reservation is next to impossible. I wanted to have a 12-15 people (if that) reservation for my bridal shower and was told to send an email. Once I did I got an automatic response to fill out a custom form and that they would send me a message if they can accommodate or not. My bridal shower was going to be sometime this May, while I had contacted them months ahead a time so I could secure a reservation. After filling out the email, calling the restaurant week after week, month after month. Not a single response. Not even someone saying sorry we cannot accommodate the party. There either needs to be a better system in place, or better communication. I ended up canceling my bridal shower because I waited too long to look else where and other restaurants were booked up. read more
