We decided to have an early happy hour/dinner and walked in at 5. Happily greeted by the manager. Only a few others seated. Chose papa b (their delicious take on an old fashioned and a dirty espresso martini with chai. Fantastic. Could not have been better mixed! Chose small plates at $10 each. Carrots, brussel sprouts, walleye wings and mussels. Each dish was amazing. Incredible sauces. I mopped up the extra sauce with extra bread I had to order. Did I mention the incredible grilled and buttery bread? Then the pies. Ohhh the pies! Salt honey and dulce de leche. I wanted another slice of both when we were done. I liked the salted honey better although both were amazing. I cannot wait to go back even though we had to drive 25 miles to get there! Kudos to the chef and wait staff here. I've been here for Sunday brunch and dinner. Dinner was a few years ago and not too memorable, but I was intrigued by the brunch menu so I gave Rood another try. Needless to say, it was worth it! For brunch we had the pork belly Benedict and sausage and gravy. The pork belly is smoked and tender; not fatty at all. The hollandaise sauce is tangy and pairs perfectly! And the burrata is the perfect compliment. The gravy and sausage is served over potato mochi sticks rather than biscuits. As a potato lover, this was chefs kiss!! I loved the crisp potato stick and soft fluffy interior. Our server was also very attentive. I dropped my knife and before I could finish chewing and pick it up, she had already swung by and cleaned it up. 10/10. read more

Made a reservation for a date night and stopped in last night. At first I was very much disappointed in our seating. We were at an extremely small table right at the front door, squished right between another small table and the host stand. Every time the door opened I shivered from the cold. We had planned on the 7 course experience, but after talking to our waiter we opted out. The food was great for the most part. We, like everyone else here has mentioned, loved the rolls so much. I also enjoyed the potatoes and my husband the mussels. We ordered the duck and the chicken and dumplings; neither really stood out. I was bummed about that. Rood is a well known restaurant in Lakewood. I've visited Rood in its various iterations - under old ownership, as they vendored in CLE, and under the new ownership. Exposed brick walls, neon signs, and mood lighting makes it very trendy and very Lakewood. It's certainly a great place to have an intimate date or fun day out with friends. I tried pies under the old ownership. I ordered Salt & Honey whole pie. It comes with an entire vile of bee pollen. It was very cute but I can't say it was the best pie I've had. It wasn't too crumble-y for me. I'm curious to try this pie again under new ownership. My last dinner at Rood was a special collaboration between Voyager Beverage. It was an intimate Spanish tasting experience with Spanish wines and Spanish-inspired foods. The dinner was priced at $125 including gratuity and taxes. I attended this dinner with a group of my girlfriends. The dinner was multi-course with each course paired with wine. Dishes were pretty innovative - charcuterie from Astoria, Mackerel Escabeche, Spanish Corned Ham, Smoke Beef Tongue, and Tocino de Cielo. The portions were petite but delicious. Mackerel Escabeche was the most interesting. The fish was removed from the tin cans and oil left. The oil was solidified to create a candle. Once burned, it would go to its original oil state. We'd dip bread into this oil. I enjoyed the dishes and the presentation. The meat was especially tender which is hard to master. I also liked the community style table. SERVICE: The new owners are Rood are very friendly. They always remember me from community events and are in general very pleasant. Every guest is asked about their experience and satisfaction. During our special dinner the dinner and dessert chefs shared the stories of dishes and ingredients. All ingredients seemed to be locally or sustainably sourced. I really enjoyed my collective experiences at Rood. Service is the best thing about Rood to me. You truly feel welcome and remembered. The cocktails were consistently okay, with a decent espresso martini, and a good-ish martini. None of the cocktails were bad or wrong, they just didn't feel exciting or new either. The vibes were not hitting hard, but we stayed and ate a lot of food. The service was clear, kind, and happy to help, but it wasn't as warm as one would have liked. The elote was fine, salad okay, and other apps didn't shine, but were totally okay. The bread course was actually better than most of the apps. The pastas were honestly very mid - good sauce on the gnocchi, but very little excellent food. We did get a fish and that was good. Tried out their brunch and the best part is they charge the tiniest cork fee and you can bring your own alcohol! They offer juices for just $2 a serving. Our favorite dish was the potato puffs. We ordered 3 rounds of it. It was crispy on the outside and puffy soft inside with fantastic seasoning. It was an umami salty flavor. The mushroom and waffles were huge and worth the price. The mushrooms were large and crispy and could easily replace chicken for vegetarians. The French toast was also huge and had great flavor with plantains. OK... we gave them plenty of time to fix the problems I noted in my past review. Much to my surprise during our absence a new owner has purchased the establishment. It began operating under the new ownership in January of this year (2025). Outwardly, very little has changed. The facility still looks exactly the same. The head Chef is still the same. For the most part, the staff appeared unchanged (young and energetic). The menu is still interesting a varied with plenty of pies to choose from. So far, so good. Our server Leah was a marvelous young lady. Recently graduated from college, very pleasant, full of energy, easy to smile and a good conversationalist. She was extremely attentive and did a wonderful job all evening. We started our evening with a plate of fresh rolls straight from the oven... very nice. I followed that up with an appetizer of "Lamb Meatballs" that were perfectly prepared. They were tender and very flavorful without being overwhelming. Next I ordered the "Duroc Pork Steak". Pork steak is something one rarely finds on a menu. I must say, it was a very pleasant surprise. It was served with green apple dust, pork confit fingerlings, crispy potato skins, wild leek soubise, and dandy green kraut. I found it to be prepared nicely with a wonderful "smokey" flavor, juicy and tender. It was a sizable portion. I had to take half of it home. Now came the point in the meal where all the disappointment occurred at our last visit... dessert. As always, there was an excellent selection of pies. Two of our party ordered pie and were impressed. It seems the problem has been addressed. I however, chose to go a different direction. I found something on the menu I had never heard of before..."Baklava Ice cream"; Really? I didn't know you could make Baklava into ice cream... how wonderful. So I ordered an Affogato with Baklava ice cream and a cup of Espresso. It was a joy! So... okay. All is well at Rood. I highly recommend it once again. Go... enjoy yourself. Went for brunch with friends today and unfortunately has a really unpleasant experience. They had been here before and loved it so I'm not sure what went wrong today. One friend got the biscuits and gravy and liked it so that's important to say off the bat. She also got a Bloody Mary that was the consistency of a smoothie but after adding some water she said it was great. My other friend got the fry bread with duck and said the flavors were good but the textures were very unpleasant. She said every piece of duck she had was more gristle than meat. She also said the fry bread was overcooked and hard to eat. I got the eggs Benedict with fried mortadella and the mortadella was very very think to an unpleasant degree. The eggs were perfect and the hollandaise was lovely. However, the salad underneath was so so salty I had to sent it back for a new one - something I've never done before. I love salty things but the salad was like getting a mouthful of sea water. They kindly brought another plate and the salad was better however we noticed the shared hashbrowns we had were also too salty to eat so maybe something had just accidentally double salted things. They were all delicious - I think my favorite were the Brussels sprouts and the pie. They have vegan and vegetarian mains, but a limited selection. For the price, I didn't see any vegetarian mains that were worth trying, but I've been there before with a different menu and I liked what I ordered. Had an unfortunately bad experience at Rood. - showed up to reservation 5 minutes early, had to wait another 20 minutes before being seated (no big deal I understand it can get busy) - once sat at the table, waited for another 15 minutes before any server greeted us or brought water out - appetizers were good and came out in a timely manner (only reason for 2 stars) - brought out main courses after waiting over and hour then messed up our friend from out of town's order, then took another 15-20 min to finish that, after being told 2 minutes - Charred Octopus was very overcooked and rubbery. The short version: OMG eat here. The long version: I ended up here, luckily, after getting forgotten about at another restaurant, so I showed up a little exhausted and a lot hungry. Thankfully, the host was friendly, and the server quickly stopped by to take my drink order. I got a delicious -- and gorgeous -- Butterfly Effect. I am a sucker for rolls, and I have no regrets getting two to start with, especially as the butter and the jam (the jam!) were wonderful, too. The rolls were hearty, the butter great, and the jam absolutely heavenly. (I think I'd eat it with a spoon.) And I'm so glad I went with the Chinese Cauliflower entree. The dish was amazing with a perfect balance of flavors along with being surprisingly filling. The seasoning was on point, the quinoa was done perfectly, and the tomato jam added a yummy tang. As I was wrapping up, a patron on her way out stopped by and said, "You have to get the peanut butter pie." She seemed confident, and my server agreed when she stopped back by, so I went with it. Well, they were right. The pie was surprisingly light in texture -- although I was FULL by the end -- and so delicious. It was the best PB pie I've ever had, and I've tried quite a few as a peanut butter lover. Overall, the food was so good I ended up getting another dessert to go. Showed up in time to enjoy happy hour and it was DELICIOUS! We ordered lamb meatballs, koi hoisin pork belly, and mussels with togarashi puree. The meatballs were tender, moist, cheesy, and flavorful (ngl gave luxury ikea meatballs and I wasn't mad about it). The pork belly was a mouthful of flavor and texture, with crisp skin, and beautiful celeriac puree combined with the crunchy pickle/kimchi radish. The mussels made fun to play with tiny forks, grilled sourdough bread, rich and perfectly cooked but definitely not enough bread for scooping up a sauce so good. Unfortunately unimpressed by the marg, but the Elder Collins made up for it. We continued with the epic eats and had the charred octopus and duck bucatini. I'm a sucker for anywhere that serves octopus in a single tentacle over pieces and this one lived up to it. Cooked to perfection with complimentary flavors and textures combining bites of octopus, crispy potatoes, and salsa verde was incredible. The duck bucatini featured housemade ground duck sausage and bucatini from the local Flour Pasta Co. Incredible flavors, creamy but not heavy, somehow light and a bit citrusy, fresh yet rich with the duck. We ran out of room before getting to the pie (which is apparently one of their showstoppers) but we are looking forward to returning sooner than I think. The ambiance was fun, beware it gets surprisingly dark once the sun is down for the day. My only complaint was the marg (feels to easy to get wrong) and we did get asked by the server a bit excessively how it was going. Neither of which will skew my rating or next visit. Dined here on a Saturday evening with friends and it did not disappoint. Service was great, vibes were good and really enjoyed the decor/ambiance overall. Aside from it being exceptionally noisy at one point, it was a really great spot for a double date. The draft list was a little bit of a joke/point of contention as none of the draft beers the guys wanted were available and that ended up being fine after some trial and error. We ordered the carrots, lamb meatballs and elote corn dip for appetizers. All were delish! My favorite were the lamb meatballs - charred on the outside but tender and so flavorful inside. Entrees were all fabulous - zero complaints from anyone. My filet was cooked to perfection. I finished the entire plate - it was a decent portion but left me room for dessert which, let's be real, was the reason I was here in the first place! The salt and honey pie was decadent and literally perfection for anyone who enjoys dessert but does not love extra sweet flavors. I highly recommend - just absolutely Spot on. Another round of everyone at the table truly about to lick their plates clean.
