Definitely one of the better restaurants I've tried in MKE thus far. Ambience, menu selection, service and attentiveness from staff far exceeded my expectations. We were greeted warmly by our server, who took his time walking us through the menu and offered suggestions on dishes to order. Menu items we tried were well-balanced (albeit maybe a bit on the saltier side), flavorful, and beautifully plated and presented. They were also well timed in terms of when they arrived to our table. Atmosphere was casual but elevated--great for a nice dinner or date night. The restaurant sits on a street with an incline, giving way to views of the Milwaukee skyline at nighttime. I can only imagine how gorgeous it will be in the summertime when their patio is open for seating. Overall, the staff, food, and experience at Avli was lovely. We ordered a bunch of food, were stuffed at the end of our meal, but still didn't feel gross because the menu selection is tasteful, not overbearingly oily or heavy, and well garnished with vegetables and herbs. 10/10 would recommend. read more

What a wonderful place to celebrate a birthday. From the moment you walk in the door it is an amazing experience and you become part of a Greek family almost. You learn from servers who know so much about the menu and have amazing recommendations for you. This place has an amazing romantic atmosphere with amazing food. There are so many must try options like their spreads which are a great starter along with the calamari. We also really enjoyed the lamb chops as they leave you wanting even more. Also the chocolate mosaic is a great way to end the night with a bang. read more

Great experience and good! We stopped by to try out the new restaurant and was very impressed. I ended up getting their take on a Bee's Knees, which was really good! We had 4 people and got 8 dishes to try (we could have gotten 6, our eyes were bigger than our stomachs). Of the dishes we got I really enjoyed the chicken breast souvlaki and the spanakopita. Will definitely be back to try more of the menu! read more

Made a last minute dinner reservation after wanting to try Avli since it opened. We were brought to the downstairs dining area. Our server was very friendly and helpful; He went over the menu and explained everything for us. We got the sampler spreads, the prawns, the pork, and beef ragout pie. Of the spreads, the tzatziki was my favorite, very fresh tasting. The other two were okay. The prawns were crispy and delicious. The pork dish was also very good. Super tender and flavorful. The beef ragout was also good if you like tomato based sauces. The only thing that wasn't that great was the pita. It looked really good but it was pretty hard to chew. Not as soft as I was expecting. I would definitely come back to try more of their menu. read more

Food/drinks are good. Our server was friendly and polite, we were in and out within an 60-90minutes. There's a nice view you can see from the restaurant as well. And there's plenty of parking on the street. read more

Food, service all great. One of my favorite places in Milwaukee. Best Mediterranean restaurant around !

YUM YUM YUM!!! Great place to catch some modern greek food and the drinks were phenomenal. We sat outside so we could see the beautiful skyline. Our waitress, Shannon, was very knowledgeable about the menu and a answered all of our questions. It was a lovely experience. Highly recommend checking out for dinner read more

The service and ambiance are top tier - our waitress was so kind and genuine! She had plenty of recommendations and walked us through the menu. The ambiance is beautiful - it's cleanly decorated, bright, and the patio area has gorgeous views overlooking Milwaukee! My only complaint is that, halfway through the dinner, they cranked the music up and it was *way* too loud to talk to the person across from me - I feel like the vibe of this place would be softer, more intimate music. The food overall was good - the moussaka was the standout dish, easily. So savory, and the bechamel on top was the perfect, creamy texture. We also had the tarama, which was quite acidic and pleasant. The kataifi prawns were so-so; the filo dough was disappointingly soggy even though it appeared as though it should have been crispy! The zucchini fritters were also so-so, but nothing too memorable - hot, and could have been more crispy. The baked potato was lemony and a comforting side. Give it a try and see what you think! read more

Made a reservation for Saturday date night a couple of weeks ahead of time since they were so booked up. We came at 5 pm, and the sun was setting throughout our meal which was gorgeous! The interior is beautiful, and they have plenty of outdoor seating that looks just as nice for the warmer months. The tables were pretty close together, although I didn't really mind, and it was very lively when we left just after 6:30. Our meal was delicious, and service was very friendly and quick. We loved the saganaki, prawns, and spread sampler -- the tarama was very unique and salty but not overwhelming, the tirokafteri had a little bit of spice, and the hummus was classic. The pita that came on the side was soft and warm. The only miss of the night for us was the pork souvlaki which was a bit dry and not very tender. I would pass on this and try a different main/meat option. Overall, the 4 dishes we ordered filled us up and we even had some leftovers to take home. Avli is a beautiful spot with good food and service, and I'd definitely recommend bringing anyone you want to impress! read more

We went there for my husband's bd. We liked the atmosphere and environment. I'm sure when it's warm, the patio would be great. The foods were good but we did not like our cocktails. We had Greek in Wisconsin and salty cucumber as our drinks. For appetizer we had spinach feta wrap thing, sorry I'm bad with names. My husband had chicken kebab and I had beef stew. We also had a side of fries which wasn't so good. Overall I suggest to try it once. read more

What a great restaurant. Service was attentive and constant. The appetizers of a sampler of Hummus, Tzatziki, and Tirokafteri on pita were fantastic. We then tried spanakopita, Beef Ragout Pie, and Soutzoukakia which were full of delicious spices. We'll be back. The view of downtown Milwaukee from Brewers Hill was beautiful. read more

Amazing ambiance, kind and thoughtful staff, lots and lots of pastry puffs/bread dishes I would recommend looking at the menu and googling items if you are unfamiliar with Greek food. We enjoyed the sampler of spreads including the tirokafteri, tzatziki, and hummus. The spanakopita was good but would have been better with a sauce of some sort as it was quite dry. The moussaka was alright but nothing to write home about. The winner of the night that left our taste buds dancing and ensured our return again to try more dishes was the frozen yogurt with Saragli. This was by far my favorite dessert in Milwaukee thus far. The view was amazing and we were able to walk in and eat at the bar on a Thursday at 7:30 Special shout out to our amazing bartender Lizzy who treated us with exceptional care read more

Numerous times I've had my delivery order messed up by this restaurant due to missing food. Called this last time and management doesn't take responsibility or apologize. Their response is to take it up with the delivery app. Done ordering from here, plus the food quality and portion size has diminished over the past year. read more

Went to Avli on a whim due to a long wait at Uncle Wolfie's across the street. I will say it was the best on the whim moment I've ever had both of the waitress and bartender were absolutely phenomenal. I love the conversation I had with the bartender, she is longtime resident of the Milwaukee area and is familiar with my hometown so that was a definite plus to the conversation and she help introduced me to new drinks and the food is phenomenal. I myself have never had Greek food before, but it was phenomenal experience. Highly recommend and can see myself as a "regular" here! Atmosphere is splendid and peaceful, great music too! read more

Such a beautiful new restaurant for Milwaukee! I have been dying to come check it out, and it did not disappoint. The restaurant is a tad small so I would try to make a reservation ahead of time. I also recommend checking out the menu before you go if you are unfamiliar with Greek food. The views were amazing, but it was a tad loud and they began playing some electronic music during dinner. I thought it felt fun and young, but it's definitely not everyone's cup of tea. The service was a tad slow and I had to ask for water 3 times, but it is a newer restaurant so I'm sure they are still working finding their footing. As for the food, I tried the calamari and shrimp soulvaki. Both were delicious, but not a lot of calamari was given considering the price. I would absolutely get the shrimp again though; perfectly seasoned and juicy! I can't wait to come back to try some of the other menu items. read more

Wish I could give zero stars. This was the worst, most unprofessional and rude service we have ever experienced at any restaurant in our lives. They completely ruined our evening. $100 out the window. Be careful asking your server multiple times for items that were ordered(due to a food allergy!) and never came because they might get mad at you and assign you another server. Most ridiculous and bizarre situation we have ever encountered. So many restaurants in this city where the servers and managers know how to treat their customers and actually apologize for mistakes. Would never ever consider returning. read more

Went on snowy chilly night this weekend and I will say on first impressions this restaurant kills it in the ambiance. Beautiful plates and amazing interior architecture. Service was good, nothing amazing, but felt taken care of. I got the salty cucumber margarita and was a decent cocktail 6/10 and my mom got a Moscow mule (her go to drink everywhere she goes) and said it was off 4/10. We ordered a bunch of apps to start. Every single one was a hit. Sampler of dips - 8/10 - sis fav Saganaki - 8/10 Fried Calamari - 10/10 fav dish loved the yellow sauce Spanakopita 6/10 - my dad's fav Kataifi Prawns 7/10 - moms fav she ordered another round Rice Pilaf - 8/10 loved ate with my dry chicken Greek Fries - 7/10 decent thick cut fries By the time we decided on mains I was already full. My sister and mom spilt the Chicken Breast Souvlaki. It had more meat than the chicken I got and was half the price. Very flavorful and juicy. 8/10 I got the Baked Chicken and had decent flavor, but it was dry and a lot of bone. 4/10. Will not be ordering when I come back... But will for sure be coming back to get more of what I liked, and try new things (big big menu). This will be a great place in the summer and happy this great location is back with a solid restaurant. *final note, parking has always been tricky at this location (when it was the view and wolf peach). This isn't the current restaurant's fault so be patient finding a spot. The view overlooking the city is well worth the hassle. read more

This restaurant was found because another restaurant had a far too long wait. Glad it did! I had the chicken gyro and my friend had the pork. Amazing. And the French fries are crispy, yet soft and warm on the inside. And seasoned to perfection. We had coffee - and it was so good. I'm glad we found this hidden gem. Atmosphere is clean and warm. Very welcoming. And the view over the city is great. Outdoor seating options. read more

We ate at Avli TWICE this weekend while visiting Milwaukee! Both visits we had Brandi as our server and I cannot say enough amazing things about her. She is attentive, informative, and she made great recommendations on food and drinks. Service matters and she is top notch! Dinner: we loved the spanakopita, the trio of spreads (Tirokafteri was the best!), the watermelon salad and the shrimp souvlaki. Sunday brunch: the avocado tahini mousse was delicious and we ordered 2 poached eggs on the side. Great combo. We also loved the eggs Benedict and the village eggs. Went to Avli with a group of 8 girls. We enjoyed fun drinks, shareables and lots of laughs! I would recommend going with a group so you can try everything! A notable fan favorite was the spreads and pita bread (Tirokafteri was my favorite!). We also enjoyed the Horiatiki Salad topped with fresh feta. We tried the Chicken Breast Souvlaki, Saganaki and Spanakopita. If I had to pick a least favorite I would pass on the Spanakopita, although everything was great! As far as service, our waiter walked us through the whole menu and offered recommendations, which I enjoy! He did not steer us wrong! read more

It was a pleasuring experience to be able to dine at Avlí. The vibe inside was inviting, cozy, and very clean. The decor catches your eye as you await your experience. The staff were very timely in our time there. We completed 3 courses in under an hour on a Saturday night. Very impressive. We began with the Kataifi Prawns and they were outstanding. The prawns were encrusted with thin noodles that were roasted, and served on a sauce scattered with tomatoes and green onions. I could have ordered two plates of the prawns in full honesty. For the main courses, I ordered the Fried Cod and my lovely date ordered the Lamb Chops. The cod actually were served as fried cod balls, sitting atop lightly oiled vegetables and a skordalia dip, garnished with orange slices. Let me tell you, when you incorporate it all together in one bite, it was a complex dish that taps into all of your senses. For the lamb chop, they were juicy and tender with flavor stemming from the decadent pan sauce, partnered with the necessary herbs such as thyme and oregano. We shared some potatoes and Mediterranean vegetables as a side, and then ended our meal by sharing the Strawberry Frozen Yogurt. The overall feeling was incredibly positive from Avlí. It will give you high quality dishes with true Greek flair. I HIGHLY recommend as it just joined my favorites list in MKE. read more

I wanted a Greek experience, so we decided to try Avli for the 1st time. I loved the interior- the esthetic was cool but still cozy. It was very busy, which honestly surprised me for a Wednesday night. Service was fairly quick despite it being busy, which we appreciated. I ordered the Greek in Wisconsin for my drink and wished I ordered what my husband got (Stavros's Knees), which was a more citrusy gin drink. Old fashioned drinks aren't their forte. My husband was going to try the beef ragout pie, but the puff pastry had an egg wash. Instead, he did the shrimp souvlaki which was delicious. I ordered the pork souvlaki which was as tough as an inner-city school. It was also not as flavorful as I would have liked. The pita was my favorite part of the plate. I would come back just for pitas. They have a deal with the inKind app that if you use that to pay (1st time using) you get $25 off a $75 bill. We were $3 shy and didn't feel like forcing it so we skipped the deal. For the price to quality ratio I would not likely come back, but I'm glad I at least tried. It was about a 3.5 star restaurant for me. Maybe others will enjoy it much more than I did. read more

One of the best views in Milwaukee! There is a lot I could say about Avli, but to start I'll just say the food is great. I have been several times and haven't gotten something bad yet. I would highly recommend the prawns, soup and shockingly, the grilled bread! I was a little disappointed to find out that happy hour is only available at the bar, which is the reason for four stars, so just know that if you're going for happy hour you have to sit at the bar... The service was good with everyone being very attentive. We will be returning! read more

We had a wonderful meal at Avli. Our server, Ramon, was excellent. We loved the Tirokafteri Spicy Greek Feta and the Lemon Potatoes. We had four in our party, one who is from Greece, and we all loved our entrees. From salad, to half chicken to pork tenderloin souvlaki and the moussaka. We even met the kind Greek general manager. please understand, I am a Greek American, and like others, was anxiously awaiting Avli's appearance in Milwaukee. I want a good Greek restaurant to succeed here. That is why I am so unhappy with my experience there tonight. I have eaten here other times, with mixed reviews, but tonight was a large disappointment. The appetizer, kataifi shrimp was ok....katifi breading much too thick. the eggplant and zucchini chips came on a bed of skordalia, the garlic dip....the garlic was not at all noticeable ! This dish is all about the dip....the garlic should sing! entrees were shrimp souvlaki...in an odd marinade, including turmeric. No! The lamp chops were cooked medium, but there was no sear on them. The surface was pale, and lacking a crusty sear , the flavor was lacking as well. Greeks will understand.....lamb, shrimp, vegetable chips, should all have had lemon wedges served alongside. The staff was accommodating and did bring them when asked, but any good Greek knows you have lemon with this food....always!! yes, the location is lovely, and the service was attentive, but the food, especially with such a limited menu, should be much more thoughtfully prepared. Please, Avli......if you want to keep your Greek customers, pay more attention to the food! read more

First off, I'm Greek. I grew up with Greek food not only in my house and church, but at various restaurants around Milwaukee run by Greek immigrants and in many Greek homes. I had very high hopes for Avli. Unfortunately, they were not met. First, let's start with what I think is going right. The servers were fantastic. Very attentive and friendly. The cocktails were also excellent. Some really creative choices there. The thing that fell flat is what I thought would be the best, the food. We started with avgolemono. It was closer to chicken soup than avgolemono. It lacked creaminess and lemon flavor. Next we had the bird's nest shrimp. This was a very nice dish, but more a dish I would expect to get at a pub than at an upscale restaurant. It was served with a basic mayonnaise based sauce. There was nothing Greek about it. We also tried the moussaka - a classic Greek dish. I thought the concept of serving it en croque was interesting but unfortunately it was pretty terrible -very dry and lacking the things great moussaka has - bechamel and custard. The custard on top of moussaka should be thick and creamy while the bechamel should run over it. There was also very little eggplant in it and what was there was brutally overcooked. Lastly are the omissions I'd expect on a Greek menu. Where is the octopus, leg of lamb, pastisio, plaki? Overall there is much better Greek food available in Milwaukee. read more
