A lovely spot with an amazing view! We sat indoors and enjoyed the charming atmosphere. (One thing to note is that happy hour is only available on the patio or at the bar) The food and drinks were delicious- we tried the chicken souvlaki and lavraki fricassé. read more

This place is for sure a solid 4 star and maybe even a 4.5 star restaurant! People have been talking for months about Avli opening here in Milwaukee. I actually made my reservation weeks in advance and still had to go at 5pm! So first, plan to make reservations and do so well in advance! The environment: This is such a cute spot! It is vibrant and lively and neatly decorated. The bar area is small and most seats (which I am assuming are first come/first serve) were full by 5:10pm on a Wednesday. The seating is quite crowded but that did not bother us, as we went on the earlier side. The view of the city is gorgeous and I am so excited for their outdoor seating once it is warm out again (see ya in 2024!!). The service: Our server was great! He was attentive and helpful. He told us at the very beginning of our meal that he wanted us to try new things and to trust his recommendations. We did just that and were very pleased with the food. The food came out quickly. This was not necessarily an issue, but the tables are so small. You really only have room for one dish (beyond your own plates) on the table at a time (especially since everything is supposed to be "family style"). Our server kept asking us if we were ready to order more. We dragged out feet for the first few times he asked us because we were still enjoying the appetizers and knew there would be no where to put the entrees, but by the third or fourth time he asked, we put in more food and sure enough when it came out, we had to scramble to find a place to put everything! The food: All very good! I would say it is definitely worth doing the sampler platter. We did the three dips and did not include hummus since that seemed a bit more typical/easy to find elsewhere. We were pleased with all of them! My husband loved the spicy feta and I thought the tzatziki was amazing (super light and refreshing!). We also did the calamari. I thought the calamari was good but not great. Super crispy so you didn't taste a lot of the fish. The souvlaki was the final thing we ordered and we loved it. We went with the chicken and it was so juicy! We would have ordered more but felt like we needed to rush to keep eating or we would have no place to pick at the dishes we were still working on. The server said next time we should do the lamb chops, which sounded great to me! Definitely will be back, but going to give it a bit to calm down. read more

Avli is a brand new restaurant in the Brewer's Hill neighborhood. The location has seen a number of restaurants come and go the past few years but one thing that is always the same here is the fantastic view of the city. Truly one of the best locations for a meal in the whole city! The space at Avli is nice. They have a beige, neutral color scheme with a lot of natural decorative elements. It is very calm and muted, which is appropriate as the views out the windows are really the star of the show. Our service at Avli was absolutely outstanding! The staff was incredibly attentive, very well informed about the menu, and eager to make sure we had everything we needed. Honestly, could not ask for better service! We started the night with drinks. I was very interested to try their selection of Greek wines. I've never had a Greek wine before and our server told us that they are the only restaurant in the city that serves it. He recommended the Assyrtiko and it was excellent! I would definitely come back to Avli just to try out more of these Greek wines. Recommend! On to the food, and sadly I wasn't quite so impressed in this area. We ordered the sampler platter of spreads as a starter. These were fine. I really liked the Tarama, but we ran out of pita and there was a charge to get more. We also ordered the zucchini fritters. I really liked the idea of these, however, these were SO salty that I had a hard time finishing the dish. Finally, we ordered the spanakopita. I've had this dish many times before and Avli's version is...okay. It was pretty dry, honestly, and nothing really stood out about it. It was certainly not the best version that I've ever had and for such a classic dish, I was disappointed. Overall, I was not that impressed with the food options. I really thought about giving a 3 star review based on the food alone, but decided on 4 stars for the drinks and our outstanding service. I'm hoping that if I order different dishes next time I might have a better experience, but as it stands, I would only come back here for the drinks. read more

The drinks were great. What I had to drink first was 'Greek in Wisconsin' which was really sweet, and my girlfriend had wine. Appetizers were saganaki and zucchini fritters. The fritters were good, saganaki is not the traditional saganaki. Dinner was good, just needed lemon for the Greek fries. The moussaka was really good! The service was great, very attentive but the ambiance is a bit loud and we were downstairs so it was kind of loud and we were right by the stairs. I didn't do my homework and request to be seated upstairs. read more

I grew up with a Grandmother who was born to Spanish immigrants in Argentina. Far removed from her roots but in close contact with extended family she continued her culture in her cooking. Lamb was a frequent feature for holidays and special occasions. Until I had the lamb at Avli tonight, although a Greek restaurant, nothing had ever compared to her lamb. The lamb chops at Avli gave me a "Ratatouille" moment where I felt as decades of memories hit me all at once when I tasted it. Kudos to the chef and staff at Avli for not only creating a memorable experience but bringing back old memories at the same time... read more

$18 for a double tequila soda is ABSURD. As a service industry person for over 6 yrs i have never seen a rail tequila soda priced above $12. Especially when a margarita is $13. We have been up charged before for petty little items such as "rocks" before so this comes as no surprise. We used to be frequent customers but after our last visit we will never come back. read more

We knew we were in for a treat from the moment we walked in! The hostess was amiable, and our waiter answered our questions, dropping expert recommendations like a seasoned foodie ninja. The food? Mouthwatering. And the dessert? Let's say Milwaukee is hiding a sweet secret, and we're tempted to keep it that way! read more

A new restaurant but already one of the best Greek eats in Milwaukee! I have been to the Avli locations in Chicago and it is easily one of my favorite restaurants but the new, expanded menu at this location was delicious. Hard to choose but the highlights of the meal for me were the prawns and the trio spread (the drinks were also fantastic). Our waitress was very personable and had extensive knowledge of the menu which was helpful in the selecting the right dishes. The vibe is great for all types of meals, including business lunches or dinners, family meals, date nights, etc. I will definitely be returning to this location soon, especially when the downstairs patio opens up! read more

Thought the food and atmosphere were so so. Was in Greece for a week in summer or 2023 and this food did not compare. Sitting in the lower level felt like being in my aunts basement. Glad I tried it, but prolly one and done for me. read more

Avli was a major disappointment. We ordered the Greek salad (which was great). What was not great were the meatballs and the spanakopita. Both are dry and flavorless. Service was fantastic with Ari. read more

Great to have a Greek focused restaurant downtown, and also great to see this restaurant space being utilized. Our server was well informed about the menu and able to answer any questions. We thoroughly enjoyed our choices. The highlight was the Greek meatballs, simply fantastic. The description of roasted vegetables as a side was a little misleading as it was more of a stewed vegetable dish, still tasted great just didn't quite match the description. Overall, a great experience. read more

Delicious food that is both unique and unpretentious. We had the trio, octopus, meatballs, lamb (two ways), eggplant, and great dessert. Nice touch to have wines from Greece. The service was attentive and views interesting. We'll be back! read more

One of the best dining experiences we've had all year. Our server, Shannon, was simply amazing. Took her time to explain everything on the menu and all of her favorites. Found us the perfect wine pairing and let us sample first since we weren't familiar with Greek wines. The ambience is perfect...clean, modern and simple. Of course the food is also delicious! Had the saganaki, trio of dips (non-feta loving husband found the whipped feta delicious absolutely delicious), Greek salad and the shrimp entree. Everything was perfectly cooked and timing of food done so well. We can't wait to go back! read more

Amazing experience at avli, which means "backyard" in Greek, and I truly felt like I was in a lovely backyard eating an incredible meal in Greece. There was indoor and outdoor seating with a beautiful view. The service was incredible, checking in on us many times throughout the meal. Would highly recommend this place for brunch, lunch/dinner, or cocktails with a group of girlfriends! read more

My friend and I tried Avli for the first time and I thoroughly enjoyed my soup and dolmades. My friend found her skewered chicken to be dry and overcooked. The main thing I would criticize about Avli is the silverware they use--it's very large and industrial, and I was not given a soup spoon and had to use one that appeared to be a heavy tablespoon. To some extent, my enjoyment of the soup was compromised because of having to use this huge, inappropriate spoon. Also, they don't have any way to shade the windows and for a while, the sun was shining in our faces. Although there weren't many people there when we first arrived, it was very noisy--they don't seem to have any acoustical paneling in their high ceiling. To me, the food seemed very good and I would go back but maybe take my own silverware. read more

I ordered takeout, and here is my honest opinion as someone who grew up with a lot of kids whose grandparents came from Greece. The chicken souvlaki was cooked perfectly. The seasoning was great, and it was simple. 5/5 The avgolemono... Overpriced for portion size, very little chicken, no parsley, no starch component. I'm used to having this with orzo or sometimes rice and it felt like it was missing so much. Also, I had like one chicken shred in the whole cup! 2/5 Greek fries... They were wrapped in a foil bag so I won't take off points for lack of crunch because that's what happens when you order takeout fries. I thought overall these were descent but why the hell is there dried rosemary on them? Oregano, yes... Rosemary? NO! When I wasn't on pieces it was like okay, these are pretty good... Then there would be just a pile of it and it just isn't a typical seasoning in Greek cuisine... Just get rid of the rosemary and get some good oregano because it tastes like I'm eating a Christmas tree on my potatoes! 3/5 read more

So many great things to say. The food, service atmosphere was amazing. I'd return 10 x over. It was absolutely delicious.

Went here for my son's birthday. He wanted to come because it is partially owned by Giannis. We ordered our apps and entrees right away. The apps came out fairly quickly, but the entrees took a very long time. Other tables who came after us were served before us. When the entees did come, one was missing. It took a very long time for the last entree to be served, and when it did it was COLD. They took it back and eventually a hot one was brought out. Everyone was long done eating before the last entree was served. The food itself was ok. The saganaki was average. I've had much better. The calamari tasted fresh and had a nice presentation. The Greek meatballs were average at best. My son enjoyed his lamb, but it did not come with any sides. Nor was any suggested. his girlfriend liked her chicken souvlaki. The beef ragout pie that took forever come out was just average. They did comp the one entree, and my son got a birthday dessert on the house. Overall a very disappointing experience. read more

Oooooo. I'm still reeling from my meal at Avli! I managed to snag a reservation which was not an easy task since their reputation clearly precedes them! I used to love this location/view when it was View MKE, and Avli did an amazing job decorating the space to keep that gorgeous atmosphere going. We checked out the wine list which our server told us was hand picked by Giannis, and thoroughly enjoyed our red wine picks! There were so many good options, we decided to tapas style to try more than 1! We got the most delicious trio of classic hummus, tzatziki, and a pimento cheese dip. Paired with the warm, homemade pita- absolutely phenomenal. We also tried the Soutzoukakia, which was a delicious blend of herbs, meat and sauce! Kind of like Greek meatballs! Finally we tried the Pork Tenderloin Souvlaki, which reminded me of a grilled shish-kabob. All of these were delicious! Our server was great, the vibe was great, the food was great. Can't wait to go back. read more

Really good food! We loved the dip appetizer and all of our meals were delicious. We would definitely eat here again!

My friends were really excited to come here because of the Chicago location, but it just wasn't nearly as good. Service was great- they were attentive and food came quickly. We had multiple people at the table order souvlaki (pork chicken and shrimp) and that was just very dry and unseasoned. One of the plates came with a whole mushy tomato too. I was expecting real fries when we ordered them but it was just mushy breakfast potatoes. The dessert was just okay as well which was so unfortunate because the server had told us it was the best pick. I think the best thing we tried were the zucchini fritters which were honestly quite good. Overall everything was edible, but probably would not come back because it was just bad. The bar is cute though! read more

Sat outside, the view was amazing. Service was great and the bussers were on top of everything!!

First and foremost the space was incredible. Gorgeous views of downtown Milwaukee with simple modern decor throughout the restaurant. Our meal was excellent from start to finish. The managers/owners were fully engaged with their customers helping run food out in a timely fashion, greeting guests, and ensuring everyone was well taken care of. The wait staff was energetic and excited about the menu and had great recommendations. It took a while for our Tsipoura to come out of the kitchen as I'm sure they're working through the kinks of opening. Our waitress kept us informed on how long until it came out and the owners gave us complimentary dessert without us even mentioning the wait. Absolutely will be back again. Perfect place to come show off Milwaukee to out of town guests. Bravo Avlí! read more
