Review is for the experience we had back in September 2019, when life was normal. It was pretty much a non event. The place was tiny and we did not have to wait long to be helped. We booked the car online and arranged for the drop off to be in the Calgary location. It was all done very efficiently and smoothly. The vehicle was quite new and it was clean. No issue. I would suggest to check how the car works since many cars are now with push button engine start and keyless. Plus to find out where the lights and indicators and wiper buttons are. That was our mistake as we didn't realize it was not automatic headlights so we were driving without them turned on when it got dark. Luckily many motorists alerted us on the small highway heading towards Calgary. We managed to figure out the issue when we pulled into a gas station. This is a decent and reputable car rental place. It's a good place if you're flexible regarding what day you get the car, don't mind hidden fees, a mileage limit just below what is necessary to visit some of the national parks, enjoy communication in person and their generous no refund policy. Flexible opening and closing hours add a particular serindipity to the car rental experience. Avis in Jasper is trying to charge me for a parking ticket that was issued 5 hours after I returned the car and 3 hours after my receipt shows an employee processed my return. I parked the car exactly where their sign said. An employee looked at it and took the keys from me. I thought it was strange that the sign on their door asked me to put the car in a street parking zone, but I figured if it's their policy I'd gladly comply. Well, looks like one of their brilliant employees forgot to move the car and now is trying to claim that the ticket is my fault. Sure.... I've always had good experiences with car rental locations in Canada but please do yourself a favor and do whatever you can to rent a car in Calgary or Edmonton. The beautiful mountains make these people dumb as rocks and the will try to make that your responsibility. Two more smaller issues I'll point out: 1) I was quoted 30$ more at the time of rental than I was during online checkout. When I showed the employee the email with my confirmed price he just shrugged and asked whether I wanted the car or not. Nice guy! 2) During a separate rental a few days later, there was an expensive smart phone sitting on the dash in plain sight. Because I have slightly more integrity than an Avis employee in Jasper, I brought the phone inside and they told me it was the car cleaner's phone. I had the worst experience EVER with my car hire with Avis!! I have to say that this review is not specifically for the the office in Jasper, but for the WHOLE Avis organisation! Back in September 2012 we went online and made a booking to rent a car from the Avis office in Jasper Alberta. We received a confirmation for our booking and our credit card was charged in advance for the hire. Now one week before our trip we decided to go back and print out our confirmations. When we went back onto their website to bring up our booking the system said that this office will now be closed over the winter period! We never received a notification that the office was closed or anything! So had we just turned up to get our car we would have been left stranded! So we called Avis to try and find out what was going on with our reservation. We got the worst customer service ever! Long story short they told us bad luck, we will refund your money. Oh and we won't charge that cancellation fee of $25. How generous! I explained to them that now that I am only 1 week away from arriving in Jasper, the only other car hire option was going to cost me $300 more! My cost of renting the car just doubled!!! I asked them if they could do anything to help alleviate the extra cost and they replied: I'll send you some vouchers that you can use in the future. How much were those vouchers worth? $50! I asked if they could email them to me since i'm less than 1 week from travelling and they said "No. It will take us 7 to 14 days to post them out to you." WHAT????? So I get stiffed for an extra $300 in costs and their attitude was "Bad luck. Here's your refund." I was even reasonable and asked them if they had another office nearby that we can get to so that we can still get a car. Her reply was "Can you tell me where there is an office near Jasper?" So she couldn't even look up their own offices in the area, she demanded that I find the office for her! I will NEVER EVER hire another car again from Avis! I would rather pay a higher fee than hire another car through Avis! And you can be sure I will be telling everyone that I know to go elsewhere for a hire car. read more
