But every day sure enough there were animals trotting along the main road. Be careful and cautious when you drive. And keep an eye out for good photo spots. The camp site is very simple. The fire ring is tiny. There is not a lot of tree cover. The bathrooms are far apart. The showers are clean and tidy and they have outlets for your hair dryer. The wood pile is replenished frequently. We liked this no frills place.

The campground has lots of sites and loops, the bathrooms are large and clean, there is not much road noise, and some sites have electrical hookups. There are showers and an RV dump site. The sites in FF are great, but most are slightly slanted (not flat). There is plenty of shade, but there's not much below the tall tree line. We set up our tent trailer in the rain, but it wasn't that bad. FF1-10 are very open. The odd number sites on FF starting with 11 are awesome. FF 33 and 41 would be my best choices. Overall, I would stay here again since it's so close to the town of Jasper. Although maybe I wouldn't bring a soft tent to Jasper National Park. It rains a lot here!! I'd bring a hard RV or hard-sided trailer. It rains less in Banff.

I did the Jasper Wildlife and Sightseeing tour with Maligne Adventures through Viator. It was a…read more6-hour tour that went through a number of spots such as Jasper National Park, Medicine Lake, Maligne Lake and a few others I honestly can't recall from memory. I won't give too much away regarding the itinerary but we did run into some wildlife. Along the way we encountered Osprey, Eagles, Deer, Elk, Baby Big Horned Sheep and it was fascinating to watch them in their habitat. Binoculars are recommended but if you don't bring your own, the tour bus supplies a few free of charge, for convenience. Our tour guide was engaging and funny. I learned a lot about the devastating 2024 Jasper wildfire and how the town has recovered since then. There is so much backstory that the local and national news didn't cover. It was an added bonus that our tour guide (who is local) gave us the real feel, behind the scenes experience of what happened to him and what he encountered on that fateful day. We did minimal walking making this tour ideal for those who prefer lighter activity. Overall, this is a good tour to add to your itinerary and I would recommend taking this tour if you have 2-3 days to spare in Jasper.

Please have a modicum of respect for small groups in the future rather than just trying to squeeze every dollar out of us.

Our room was quite dark - simply not enough light. Our room was on the 2nd floor, if you opened the curtains, there was simply no privacy. The AC worked great but was either off or on - no temperature controls. They have a number of Adirondack chairs out front that we enjoyed in the evenings. The hotel is older and needs to be remodeled - but I guess there is no need to - since they were totally filled during our stay. If the hotel had been 50% of what we paid, we would have increased our rating to 4/5. But at the price that is charged, 3/5 is almost generous.

It's just outside Jasper National Park gates so it's a perfect spot to take in the natural beauty of the Rockies without the trappings of corporate life such as Starbucks and McDonalds drawing you in with their gaudiness. This place is rustic! If you're more comfortable with modern concrete and glass structures you can find something like that in the town of Jasper. This has more of a European vibe where the scale is smaller and less Americanized and polished. If you don't mind more of a folksy atmosphere, the Overlander won't disappoint. The view is breathtaking! There is a common shared balcony outside the rooms upstairs to let you greet the day by taking your breath away. On the main floor is the dining area with a similar view, with a balcony as well to enjoy in nicer weather. With its split level, there is another area below to check out. Since we only enjoyed a quick tour with my sister here I can't comment on the food and service but everything looked nice and the place has always had a good reputation.

The showers and restrooms were immaculate with plenty of hot water (bring your own toiletries though). The campsites come with fire pits on request and aren't too squished together. Reservations are available through the main office on site and open pretty late. This place is massive and there's plenty of things to do nearby from hikes, dining and just relaxing, I'll definitely be back!
