Wow!!!! I just realized I haven't left a review for Marmot Basin before!!! This is my happy place! Close to Edmonton and very good selection of runs! My most favourite one is Paradise and all of those black diamonds on the north side! In general it's fun for beginners as it is for advanced skiers! The food services are pretty good and if you have Marmot Escape Card you will get some discount for the food! I should mention if you have the card, you maybe able to get discount from some hotels too! Look into it in advance! In general I recommend this place and it's the best option in Alberta compare to other choices for me! read more

Views here were absolutely stunning and the pine tree lined trails were unparalleled. We got lucky with all lifts open and powder and cannot imagine a better ski day. The terrain caters to everyone - they had extremely difficult open bowls and also many options for long relaxing green and blue runs. Staff was nice and lines were very short even on a Saturday! read more

By far my favourite mountain in the Rockies for snowboarding! This mountain has a lot of easy - medium difficulty runs and you can go right up to the top even as a beginner or intermediate snowboarder. We always like to park at parking lot 3 or 4 so that we can stop at the car after a few runs and have some water or sandwiches. One of the perks of this mountain is you can snowboard pretty much right into the parking lot. The lifts are easy to use and to dismount from as well. The staff are super friendly and always there to cheer you on, have a quick hello with, or give you advice on which runs to take. Also all Covid protocols are being followed here, masks everywhere, lots of outdoor space. Go up to the Knob, you can see EVERYTHING up there on a clear sunny day and it's so beautiful. Enjoy leisurely runs and wide open spaces, perfect for carving. We went on a Thursday and it was honestly so perfect! We've gone on the weekends before and it's really not too busy then either but on a weekday really felt like we had the whole mountain to ourselves. read more

Beautiful mountain in the National Park. I like this hill quite a bit for snowboarding. I feel like it has a lot less flat spots compared to sunshine Village. they just opened up a new area with double black diamonds which my husband had a great time skiing on. The chairlifts are mainly quads that go pretty fast so you don't ever have to wait in line too long. This is a classic hill great for the whole family I have been going here for years and will be returning for many more. The Shellys have great patios for chilling out on I just wish that the food was a little bit better. read more

I loooove Marmot!! I have been skiing this mountain since I was 7 years old, and in over 20 years I have never been bored of it. Every winter I am always excited to get out to Jasper and ride Marmot, I think it is world class! And ya, maybe I'm a bit biased because I am so proud of the little Mountain that could, presiding in Edmonton's backyard (well, that is if you call over over 3,000 vertical feet on 1,675 acres, little!) With 4 high speed quads including the longest high speed quad in the world, The Rocky Mountain Express! Upper and lower chalet with breathtaking views of the Rockies. Very reasonable lift ticket prices, a wonderful rentals place, if you need it, staffed with wonderful, knowledgeable (and oddly all very attractive) staff. Well, this is the mountain for me! Oh, and they had more then 400 centimetres of snow this year!! Marmot Basin, see you next winter! read more

This is our most frequently hill as it is only a four hour drive from Edmonton. We usually go early at 6am in the and arrive at around 10am. There are four parking areas where you can ski or board in to the chalet. At the chalet you can purchase life tickets. Tickets are about 80 dollars a pop, if you are frequent riders like us you can save some money buying lift tickets from Costco or getting the Jasper/Banff cards where your 1st, 4th and 7th time is free. There are about 92 different runs you could take down the mountain. All the runs are labelled clearly as green, blue and black. My only criticism is the cleanliness of the bathrooms and the extremely pricey food at the lodge. If you are looking to save a few bucks you can rent a locker and bring your own lunch and snacks. All around a fun times and we always leave with tender muscles and smiles plastered on our faces. read more

Great weekend getaway or day trip experience. I took the #magicbus from Edmonton and it was a beautiful full day of skiing! Great views on a sunny day. I have my own equipment but you can rent everything you will need at the mountain. They also have a few cafeteria areas to get food and a bar if you get thirsty at the bottom as well as a stop to refuel yourself half way down the mountain if you are skiing from the top. You can even take lessons if you are new or a little rusty. With trail options for all experience levels you'll have a great day in the mountains! read more

I absolutely love Marmot!! I have been here countless times and it is the perfect weekend escape from Edmonton. With Southern Alberta's bases being covered, it is nice for us YEGers to have a place to call our own. My favorite thing about this place is the limited wait time at lifts. Honestly I have skied across AB and BC and I have never been able to get on a lift more quickly than at Marmot. They have put a lot of money into making their chairlift service the best in Canada and they definitely deliver. I remember when I learned to board that getting of the chairlift was one of my biggest challenges- they now have a great lift just for beginners and have done away with that awful T-bar. The runs are fantastic- a great mix for beginners and advanced skier and boarders. I really appreciate the minimal traverses on the mountain as well. At the end of the day when I am getting lazy the last thing I need is to hold an edge and feel the burn my legs. The runs al tend to funnel into the same place, which can be nice if you lose your friends and family, but can make those high traffic areas icy and tough to ride. Some people don't like the setup of the parking lot- but I think it's really cool. You can park your car at the lodge temporarily to get your lift ticket and then drive up the mountain to park. From there you just get your gear on and can ski right to the lift. I don't know how practical it is for super beginners. The part from the parking lot to the beginner lifts is far and might be intimidating if you have never even put skis or a snowboard on before. This is definitely my favorite place to ski- a large part of that might have to do with the fact that I know it like the back of my hand. Everyone there is so nice, the lodges are great and there is tons of room to leave your stuff. With food prices being so expensive, it is nice that they accommodate those who bring food for lunch. Update 4/12/15: Still love Marmot Basin. Ski free on your birthday! Just a note that I feel like the mid-mountain Eagle chalet food has gone downhill a bit - way too many deep-fried things, and while I appreciate that they are trying to speed things along, I really don't want a hamburger that's been sitting under the heat lamp, or a hot dog from one of those rolling things similar to 7-11. Note that on Saturdays you can get the hamburgers and hot-dogs freshly grilled with all the accoutrements. There's supposed to be a restaurant mid-mountain as well, but I've never seen it open? I did discover a great place called Ciabatta Cafe, located next to the rentals at the bottom, with delicious grilled paninis, sandwiches, pre-made salads, and breakfast wraps. Nowhere to sit but you can just go upstairs. ---------------- I love Marmot basin. It's never really busy and there is always a challenge (unless you go really early in the season when the Knob chair isn't open and rocks and trees are still poking out of the ground.... which happened to me last weekend). There are some awesome hikes at the top of the Eagle Ridge and Knob chairs (maybe 20 minutes almost straight up) where you can get a spectacular view and then snowboard down some relatively unused trails. There is something appropriate for all levels of experience, but now that I'm an intermediate-advanced boarder, I wish that there were faster lifts to the top (the Eagle Ridge can be sooooo slow and cold and windy) and longer runs (I've been spoiled with going to Kicking Horse and Revelstoke the last few years). The mid-mountain lodge has a microwave which is really nice if you want to bring your own food to heat up, because the cafeteria there isn't cheap! Also - the poutine is NOT made with real cheese curds so skip it if curds are a deal breaker (which really.. they should be - it's not a real poutine otherwise!). There is also a small bar and FYI the caesar was just ok. However, they were kind enough to change the channel on the single TV to an NFL game to watch instead of some boring TSN documentary so that scores some points in my book. If you need to buy tickets at the main lodge, you can actually ski/board down to it from each of the parking lots - similarly, you can ski out to your car at the end of the day which is really nice. I prefer Marmot Basin to Sunshine Village in Banff (because a lot of Sunshine is a big treeless bowl and I like trees as a point of reference) but I have to say that I've never really had good conditions at Sunshine. I wish Marmot Basin was a touch closer to Edmonton but the distance won't deter me from going back :) read more

Its always going to be a classic. It is the hill I have skied the most and I love it! All the chalets are nice but the big main one is great! There is a decent bar, or just a cafeteria to eat at. The rental shop and buying shop are both great. I mean bring $$$$ same as any mountain. The only thing I would change (I know you cant!) but a hotel right on the hill or a less shitty drive to the mountain. read more

Would have been five stars, however the food at both upper and lower chalets was piss poor. Soggy fries, burned burgers. I expect a lot better when we are paying such a high price to eat. The ski resort is great. Lots of runs of all levels. Not as many as the larger resorts, however there are very little amounts of people up here during the week, so you can ski down the mountain and do what you want without bumping into others. read more

This is a wonderful place to learn how to ski or snow board and to spend a beautiful snowy day. I am not a skier or snow boarder. I have been skiing all of twice in my life and before Marmot Basin, I had never been on a snow board. However, my husband and I wanted to have a snowy vacation in Jasper so we signed up for snow boarding lessons so that I could have some sort of idea how to get down a mountain without falling my face. Wow, what a wonderful day. Seriously, the weather was even pretty crappy (it was very grey and cold) but the mountain was beautiful and it was super fun. The instructor was excellent and the bunny slope was a great place to learn. We signed up up for a group lesson (which included the rental) for only $100 each. Afterwards, we wished we had also signed up for a private lesson because our instructor was just so great. Anyway, after our lesson in the morning, we hit the slopes and tried out our newly learned snowboarding moves. Although there was still a fair amount of face planting, I was definitely on my feet way more than on my face. We went on one of the busiest days the resort has had and the only place you could really tell was the rental shop. Everything else (lifts, mountains, cafe) felt like a reasonable number of people and I never felt like I was tripping over people/equipment/kids. Although this is a hike from Calgary, I definitely recommend it. I will hopefully make it up to Jasper again before the season is over. It's worth the trip. read more

I personally LOVE Marmot Basin! It has hills for all levels, I especially LOVE to get out there when they get a dump of fresh pow! Is only three hours for me to get there, so I am able to do day runs here and there! I never leave Marmot without a smile on my face! The staff is always friendly, the lifts are quick, I ideally hit on a weekday, but even on a weekend the wait is never long! Check it out you won't be disappointed!!! read more

Great for all experience levels!.. except for when it doesn't snow, then it can get quite icy. it can get quite crowded by the mid-level chalet as a lot of runs funnel in through there. The runs off Eagle Ridge chair and the Rockies Express are my favourite! There's a mix of greens, blues and easier blacks so you have variety, and probably hard blacks but no thank you. I'd still consider this mountain to be small with not as many options, a full day of skiing gets repetitive. The mountain services is great, the chalets have nice patios and views with great staff providing beers! The parking is efficient and also not efficient with having to get your tickets first then parking up the mountain, but then again you get to ski in and out exactly to where your vehicle is. read more

Amazing! A great place for family skiing of different levels. Maybe my rating is high because of the 39cm of snow that has fallen in the past two days, because the conditions were ideal. There was a group of seven of us and we all had a great time. Five of the group had lessons and even though most had signed up for group lessons, there were SO many instructors that all but one person got private lessons. The instructors were all friendly, competent, patient and everyone learned quite a bit. Also, if they chanced upon you later in the day, they all stopped to chat and see how you were doing. The instructors are great ambassadors for Marmot Basin. For my bit, I got a chance to ski the upper hills and the nice deep powder was an awesome experience. For most of my skiing life, I'm used to man-made and often icy slopes so this was great for me. We even went off trail and got to ski in some of the virgin powder...amazing. Later in the day, I got to ski with my daughter on the School House run and it's perfect for the new skier. It's a nice gentle and wide slope with a few interesting areas like little jumps and tree lined areas for a little adventure. After 4 or 5 runs down there, she was happy to head higher and try a bit more difficult runs. Jasper has generally been a spring and summer place for my family, but I think we'll start coming more often in the winter too because my girls have caught the skiing bug after only one day at Marmot Basin. read more

Went for the grand opening weekend this sunday. Was above what I expected for the 2nd day open this season. They did a great job with service. Marmot is a little too "ski hill" than "mountain resort" but I still had a great time. The new lifts are great, the ski patrol did a great job marking the hazards that are to be expected in November ski season. All in all I really had a great first day out, and would enjoy going again! read more

I love this mountain. So many great runs for beginners and experts. Not too many flat spots (beginners' nightmare) and never more than a 1-5 minute wait for chair lifts. A couple cozy lodges to hang out in (pack your own lunch if you want to avoid the high ski resort food prices, but drinks are on par). Really nice staff and amazing chicken wings. Tip: get the Sunshine Marmot card! Pays itself off within the first use. read more

Always my favorite mountain resort. Today was beautiful- no lines, friendly staff and great conditions. It's also nice that they are a bit cheaper than most resorts I've been to in the Rockies, but they boast just as many amazing runs, good food at their cafeterias, clean bathrooms, and a fantastic rental shop. Extra props to the rental staff for their attentiveness and friendly attitude to my friend who is a new snowboarder who came in for their help today! read more

Had another great time at Marmot today. Despite Mother Nature not cooperating - not the epic amounts of snow like last year - the runs were well marked and well groomed. Our food in the bar was good, and the service was top notch. Look forward to the next trip in February! read more
