Was offered an alternate, which I accepted, but when I went to pick up the car, they said the car was getting service and it will take "some time". I ubered there and was not given any info as to how long I'm supposed to be waiting. I've had numerous bad experiences renting from AVIS but, this was the worst. STAY AWAY FROM HERE The car was filthy. Dog hair everywhere and smelled like a wet dog. Windows so dirty it's hard to see through and massive dents all over the car. Tank was 3/4 full but I was told to bring it back full. If I wasn't in a rush I wouldn't have accepted the car. I usually rent with enterprise down the way. I reserved a car rental through Costco upon arrival place was very dirty trash everywhere he showed me two cars they were both dirty and not washed then I gave him my credentials he started the paper work for the rental then he charged me and then said I can't charge you because your credit score is too low so I left with out a rental charged me $300 and I walked out empty handed this felt like a scam they took all my information my money and no services mind you he has the cars in a parking lot downstairs it didn't feel safe please if your a single woman be careful. read more

If we could give negative stars we would. First off, we booked a reservation for an upgraded SUV two months before our requested rental rate, the pricing was good. After reviewing several of these Yelp reviews, we started to have concerns. The day before, I called the location to confirm and there seemed to be no issue. The day of rental pickup, as we were headed out the door, literally 12 minutes before our scheduled pickup time, we get a text message that the vehicle is not available due to a "national recall" on our specific vehicle. Instructions indicated to call for assistance. It sent us to a call center representative who tried to find another Avis that would have the vehicle, with the nearest location being 10 miles away. Their system said that the original Alhambra Avis location had a standard SUV available, so we decided to accept a downgrade to get on with our travel. When we got to this Alhambra location there were two people working. They seemed to be aware of our situation and said that they were working to get us a vehicle because they had NO SUVs available. They were calling customers asking them when they'd be returning their rentals or if they are going to be late. They said that they might have a vehicle available 2 hours after our initial rental pickup time. We should have been on the road already. They offered us an electric car which we declined. After all that wasted time, we walked out without a rental and went to another agency that was able to assist us and let us get on with our trip. We don't normally like to write negative reviews but the service was clearly unacceptable. Another Yelp reviewer said to avoid this place and we'd have to agree. I had 2 very very bad experiences from Avis! one time in Las Vegas with over charge n also charge gas I filled up all the way n still charge me as an empty tank! until recently rent a one way car from La Alhambra to back to Pleasanton CA. upon arriving there is no car n the counter guy was very rude as well. sorry can't help you but asked me to call the Avis co directly so I did! so they sent me to another location in Pasadena ca n $50 more I had rented but still no car there either n this dude is even ruder then the one in Alhambra Ca! just said sorry I have no car for you n can't help! We recently booked a minivan for 6 days for thanksgiving holidays through Costco since August. When we went to pick up the car, the guy said they couldn't give a minivan because the previous customer didn't return the car. They tried to tell us to take a smaller SUV. They also told us they couldn't give us a replacement minivan from nearby AVIS. They told us to wait until the next morning to get the minivan. We had to scramble to get minivan from everywhere. We called AVIS customer service and they told us that AVIS at montebello has one minivan. When we get there, they have one minivan. They told us the rate is twice as much as we signed up for originally. They also tricked us to sign up for optional coverage. It seems to me AVIS is involved price gouging. read more

I showed up right before opening time at 8am along with several other people. well, its 8:05, store still dark. Theres a sign on the door saying to call one of two people if door is locked. I called the first number, no answer. I call the second number, somebody picks up and says the guy working is coming soon, but no idea when. Guy shows up a few minutes later. Unprofessional; if you open at 8, doors should be open at 8 sharp with lights on and helping the first customer. 2. Price - its pretty standard across Avis when i looked, so they dont get extra stars for this. 3. The car - it was FILTHY. covered in peoples sunscreen handprints, smelled bad, still had previous drivers trash in it (tourist maps etc) and needed a good vacuum. Outside was also filthy. It was clear they just took the return and handed me the keys without doing any cleaning. 4. Upon return, same deal. I showed up right before 8. Guy showed up at 8:07 with several customers waiting already. 5. They charge a $200 damage deposit - this is not written anywhere on the receipt/invoice. I had to call to ask and the guy told me. I'm actually so happy with my experience renting a car here specially during the holidays that I have to say, DO RENT A CAR HERE! Not sure why the ratings aren't higher for this place but here is my latest End of December experience: The young gentleman Ali (?spelling might be off) helping us out was super kind, patient and very helpful. So nice to us and super friendly. He explained everything, gave us all the info for the car we had booked online and it was super easy getting in and out. They had a number of choices for me to choose from. You can certainly even drop off the car after hours via the key drop and they gave us a code for where to get through the gated area for the car. This was definitely the cheapest and most convenient place we found compared to so many places I checked out on Priceline online. I'd definitely rent again from this spot. Ps. There's NO stopping or parking at the front of the business so go through the back where there's a covered parking lot. They share the lot with doctor offices but you can park anywhere, even if the sign says DOCTOR / PATIENT PARKING. read more

I was only dropping off my car so I can't speak to picking up, but I had a great experience here. The location is very convenient for me, and the customer service rep at the counter was very friendly and helpful. Word of advice: there is basement parking which is where they want you to drop the car off at. The ground floor and upper level parking was packed when I came, and I ended up having to circle around before leaving the lot and parking in the street. The guy then informed me about the basement parking which is where I was able to easily find an open space. They want you to park it in the basement anyway because that's where they keep the cars. I will say though, even though there were open spots in the basement the spots were very narrow so it was still a bit of a challenge pulling my vehicle in which is why I knocked off a star. This was the first time I've rented with Avis and I would definitely do it again. read more

Absolutely awful experience. Made a reservation a month and a half in advance, car was filthy (not disinfected as advertised) fluids and tire pressure wasn't checked and faulty battery. I told local employee my concerns and he said I had to call customer service, which I did and they said they didn't have any other vehicles at that location to switch. They wanted me to call another location to find a vehicle and drive out of my way to find a replacement. Obviously I did not have time to do That. So I had to pay for car wash and vacuum the car which took an additional hour and half of my Morning. The next morning the vehicle didn't start, I called customer Service and they were going to Charge me $120 to wait and send a service vehicle to jump start the van. I had to flag a stranger down to borrow jumper cables. I was worried driving back to Texas but Made it back home thankfully and when I was going to return the car the next day it did not start. Had to jump start vehicle, I also filled up the vehicle prior to return and I have documentation but I was charged $130 for fuel up. DO NOT RENT WITH AVIS!!!!!! Customer service didn't want to help, they drop The call when I'm trying to explain my situation. DO NOT RENT WITH AVIS! HORRIBLE EXPERIENCE!!!!!! WORST car rental experience EVER! Reserved a twelve passenger van for family outing. Called Avis for two consecutive days prior to outing to confirm vehicle was available. Even asked if vehicle could be picked up a day earlier(at my cost). They assured me the vehicle would be there and available. Day of pick up I show up at 7:45 am. Location opens at 8am. Customers outside waiting patiently and no employees to be found. 8:25am someone finally strolls in. After an inventory/lot check, my vehicle is nowhere to be found. Employee claims vehicle is somewhere at LAX airport and offered a minivan. WTF! There's a reason I reserved a 12 passenger van. I ended up with a filthy 8 passenger vehicle. Vehicle had not been cleaned. Stained seats, crumbs and trash still remained. This was my first experience renting from Avis Alahambra and will certainly be my last. Single handedly the worst car rental experience - and one of the worst customer service experiences of my life. RUDE, unprofessional, and will NEVER rent from Avis again- if this is who they contract. Gave me a car with a flat tire- it happens. But then the replacement smelled like smoke. None of these cars were checked. The odometer was incorrect on both rentals. I was on a time crunch (as our normal car broke down and needed a replacement immediately) so wasn't able to return the second replacement and ended up smelling like smoke for the rest of the day. They have become my go to rental car store when I am in the area (and for good reason!) The only downside I can think of though is that they have two entrances, one facing the street and one in the back (inside the garage). I was looking around for a car to rent and a lot of the nearby Avis locations had poor ratings and questionable reviews about poor service...except for this one! Glad I went to this location because I had a great experience. Ali was so helpful with any questions that I had and I can tell that he really tries to do his best to help everyone who comes in. The first car I rented I noticed was a bit dirty soon after I picked it up, so I gave Ali a call and I was able to go back and switch out to a different car without hesitation. We reserved two cars 10 days beforehand. We came in at 8am in the morning only for him to say that they're out of cars. Firstly, Hanif (the manager) came in at 8:07 only AFTER we called him. This may seem petty, but we explicitly asked for 8 am reservation as we had attend a commencement at 9am. We get there, "no cars", ok fine, we'll come back tomorrow. The manager mentioned ok ok that'll help a lot. We come back Sunday morning at 8 am again. The manager once again only comes in AFTER someone else who was returning a car called him. We get let in, and he fails to acknowledge us altogether. He is helping other people return cars -- which is fine, but would be nice if they had at least told us anything. Here comes the kicker. A later customer comes in after us, and he immediately starts helping the other customer and giving a car to the other customer. After about ten minutes of helping the other customer, my other co-drivers start asking "why are you helping this customer before us". The manager started getting really defensive about how "he can't help it" if he doesn't have any cars. The issue we have with this is the lack of clear communication. If he had acknowledge us as we walked in and told us immediately that he no cars, we would be pissed but not pissed enough to leave a review. read more

If I could post zero stars I would. I reserved a van for 10 passengers 2 weeks prior to picking up the vehicle. I went to the Alhambra Avis a week before so I could take a look at the vehicle. They told me one isn't available to see but they showed me a photo online. I said ok. Looks good. I called the day before my pickup to ensure the vehicle would be there. They promised it would. I got an email stating my vehicle was ready. I went in and they had nothing available for me. The agent said his manager had to take care of his mother yesterday and wasn't able to call me or get me my reserved vehicle. Then he said that the vehicles have been recalled and there was nothing he can do. I called Avis customer service and there was no such recall to their knowledge. Beware of this Avis. read more

So I was in need of a second car, and this place was literally the only place that had a car available in my area. This place is a father and son ran business. The father looks like he's always in a hurry. Avis needs to take control over this location. To start the one star is for how fast they get you in and out. It's all down hill after that 1. The car was filthy, I could tell it hadn't been washed in a long time. Absolutely no COVID-19 protocols what so ever. I had to do it. 2. The car was a 2020 Toyota Camry, but it ran like a 1990's Saturn. 3. The worst part is my son found a folded up 5 dollar bill in the back seat filled with meth. About a week ago (Dec 2018) I rented a car at this location again through the Costco Travel website because this place had the cheapest rate in San Gabriel / Alhambra area. I originally booked an intermediate car (Chevrolet Cruze or similar) and came here at 8 AM. Unfortunately one of the staff said they don't have any intermediate cars and asked me to wait for few minutes for the manager. The manager offered 2018 Ford Mustang as an upgrade and said he will only charge me additional $5 per day. I was a bit hesitant about getting the car at first, but one of customers overheard the conversation and she said "wow that's an upgrade!" I didn't want to waste more time and go through all of hassles, so I ultimately got the car for about $120 with all tax and fees included (three full days.) One of the younger staff took me to the car and was kind enough to answer all of my questions about different buttons (how to turn on headlights, how to adjust A/C controls and door mirrors, etc.) Few additional comments I would like to add: * Car returners have priority over car borrowers - it makes sense because car borrowers have nowhere else to go if there's no car to begin with. * Watch the dip at the parking garage entrance. * There are three refueling options - refill gas yourself, pre-pay for half or full tank, or let Avis refill the remaining tank for you. As for the car, I didn't have any major issues. It had heated/cooled front seats, climate control, and a 10-speed automatic transmission; however, my friend complained about how leather back seats were hard and super cramped. I believe they passed out during the round-trip ride from Los Angeles to Las Vegas. The return process was very straightforward and I did not see any additional fees on my final bill. 4-star for friendly service, but I had to knock a star down because I was unable to get the car I initially had requested (few other Yelpers also wrote about the same concern.) read more

The cars are so filthy, covered in sand and half empty water bottles, a quarter tank of gas. One of the vehicles that we rented had an oil change light turn on a few minutes after driving off the lot. I booked a large cargo van 5 weeks before I needed it and of course on the day of pickup they tell me they don't have it, and because I was in a bind at that point, I accepted two smaller vehicles forcing me to find an additional driver and change plans that had been set for over a month. Even though I booked through Costco Travel, it's been weeks of emailing to get the additional charges reversed, I am actually shocked Costco would use this place as a vendor. I COULD NOT GET A REFUND FROM THE COMPANY. This is a negative review for the company, which the guys at this location (a father and son team) do not deserve. I returned a car I had rented 2 days early and expected a refund for the balance but when I checked my receipt it said $79 of the total charge was NON-REFUNDABLE. It turns out they do this if you book through their 1-800 call center but not if you go to the actual location you will pick up your car at. Their representative explained this to me on the phone, that this is company policy. Otherwise service and car quality are good. I'll just remember to keep doing business only with the guys at the location I go to because they know me, always give me a good rate and refund my credit card when I bring the car back before the due date. read more
