Looking for a rental over a week in this part of town, I noticed that Avis had a price that was the lowest compared to other rental companies. Deciding to take a chance, I decided to get a rental. Upon arriving, I noticed that the lot is rather small, and if more than one or two people are in line, you will have a wait. Thankfully I got there when no one else was present. The attendant was courteous and attentive in certain details, but it seems that the person in charge of cleaning the vehicles was not present today. The car I requested was also not present, but I was given a different vehicle at no additional charge. One thing I did notice is the rental I was given had many scratches, door dings and a a fender bender, plus a small chip on the glass. Make sure to take all pictures of the vehicle and for the acknowledgement form to show all the damage so you won't be charged for pre-existing damage. The car had no mechanical issues and was fine to drive during my usage. Returning the car was also smooth, and is a positive of this stop. However, getting a car I had to wash and having to worry about pre-existing damage is something that makes me a bit wary to rent another car here. read more

I would rate zero stars if I could. Horrible experience. Reserved a truck weeks in advance only to be told that that did not have a truck for me. In fact did not have ANY trucks for rent. I was subsequently charged a $50 cancellation fee after THEY failed to provide me with a vehicle. I've spent hours on the phone with customer service and sent multiple emails. Steer clear! I would give negative stars if possible. I would HIGHLY recommend that Avis conduct an inspection of the Montebello, CA location. I recently made a reservation through Costco. Upon arrival, I was brought an SUV to rent. Quickly, I noticed that the passenger rear tire was completely bald. I then went to inspect the other tires and saw that the driver's side rear tire was also completely bald. The tires were on the verge of having the wires exposed. That's how bad the tires were. I informed the operator of the condition and he then asked me how far was I going to be driving. That is a ridiculous question to ask. No distance would be safe to drive with the tire conditions of that vehicle (Toyota RAV4). I declined the car and the operator offered me another SUV but informed me that there was a large crack on the passenger side and that it shouldn't impede my field of view. I agreed to look at the Jeep Wrangler. I agreed with the operator that the crack didn't affect my vision too badly. When I went to walk around the car to see other issues, I soon realized that the car had not been washed or cleaned out at all. In fact, the vehicle had what appeared to be a bunch of pills spilled under the seat. I have never seen a dirtier car than this particular SUV. Because I was really in need of an SUV that morning, I agreed to rent the vehicle and the operator said that he would make a notation of the crack and also note the condition of the Jeep. I took the vehicle home and immediately wiped the interior down with disinfectant wipes. The wipes were black from wiping the steering wheel. The cup holders had to be wiped down because it was all sticky from drinks. I wore gloves to remove the suspicious pill-looking objects from underneath the vehicle. I had to clean all the windows as it was difficult to see out of them because of the dirt. The Jeep was disgusting! The rental served its purpose for my trip though and I had no further issues until a month after the rental. I received two letters stating that I owed money for cleaning the vehicle and the windshield crack. Two things; One, I returned the car cleaner than I received it, and Two, the operator was supposed to have noted the cracked windshield. Fortunately, Avis was kind enough to refund both fees. I don't understand why the Montebello location tried to blame me and pass on the fees to me when it was clearly their fault and responsibility. He was fully aware of the condition of the rental. I don't like to slander business owners, but this location truly is tarnishing the Avis name. This location should not be allowed to use Avis's name. Just look at other Yelp reviews. I should've done the same and heeded everyone's warning about this place and steered far away from this location. Needless to say, I'll never rent a vehicle from Avis unless it's at an airport location. read more

So I am an Uber driver, And I've searched high and low for places to rent a car to drive to make money! Every other brand rental company Uber gave me was a JOKE! No one seemed like they wanted to help! So I called Uber and they told me that this Avis location should be able to help me. I was skeptical at first after reading some of the reviews, but I was out of rental companies and locations unless I wanted to drive to San Diego or Palmdale! NOPE! So I tried Avis in Montebello despite what I've read and I gotta say, Don't believe all the reviews you read online! Most of the time it's just people pissed off and going on emotion. Anyways, I called and they had 1 car left and I said please hold it I'm on my way! They did, and the service I got shocked me! They actually came through and were extremely helpful! They even told me that the car I originally wanted, Mustang Mach E was rented, but as soon as it came back they would call me. I arrived at 4:50p to find the garage doors closed (where the car rentals are stored) and saw the agents white Mercedes running/idling outside the front door. I walked in and gave my confirmation number. He said he didn't show a reservation for me. No problem, I called Avis. The agent confirmed I did. He said he has to go by his computer even though Avis was on speaker phone letting him know I had a confirmation. He said he's closing in 5 mins. and couldn't help me. Avis said they wouldn't charge me and have filed a formal complaint with this location. I went through Costco Travel. Needed rental for vacation. Decided to go with Avis. They immediately withdrew $539 from my account. Following morning when it was time for pick up they claimed that there was no longer available cars or trucks for rent. So because I ordered my vehicle online their system wasn't updated. Me along with 5 other clients where waiting to get information on whether we should cancel and if we'd even get reimbursed. Anyways it was a nightmare. I called couldn't reach customer service finally did and they claimed to reimburse me within 3 business days. It's now been a week and still no reimbursement. Horrible service.
