I made a reservation a month in advance for a rental car. When I walked into the office there were about 30 customers standing around looking pissed. I told them I was there to get my rental car, and they told me they had no cars. I asked what they would do to resolve the issue and they said "nothing. It's not our fault you made a reservation through a 3rd party". I showed them my reservation...through Avis' website... Manager said that was too bad and I'd have to wait 2 hours like everyone else. So I started telling everyone that walked in "no more rentals at Avis!! Even if you have a reservation!!" as loudly as possible because I might as well embarrass the manager since he was being a dick. They got me a car 30 minutes later because they were horrified that I'd do that. When I handed them my ID, the manager said "your ID's fake, sorry, can't help you" with the biggest grin on his face. I said "how do you think I FLEW across the country with a fake ID? Give me my car" and he started arguing with me. I told him I'd call the cops to prove it was real. As soon as I brought up calling the police he said I could have the rental car. What a horrible location AND company. Will never rent from Avis again, ESPECIALLY this location. read more

Definitely do not rent from this location. I am Avis president member. Each and every time I've come to this location. They seem to make nothing but errors. I asked for a simple task of a split bill between two corporate credit cards and they said they couldn't do it to find out the system does allow them to do it, and no one seem to be able to handle this task of splitting the bill. so they left and said they would talk with the manager first thing in the morning and what did they do? They charged one card not the two cards that I asked just goes to show the level of customer service. This location continues to provide terrible customer service. I was about to go to the other company's counter (just 10 feet away but with a line) but Kevin said he could take care of me. He quickly found a car deal that beat the other's price. Smart guy! First of all, it's right across the street when you get off the plane, which is super convenient (vs at LAX, where you have to wait for a shuttle and ride on over to the Avis spot). I will never rent from Avis again. I reserved the car through Expedia because it was supposed to be about $200. The bill came out to be $340. When I returned the vehicle I asked the agent why it came out to that much. He said it was because I selected full coverage. I told him I declined that when I first got the car. The agent then said he would tell his manager to call me so we can get it removed. I waited 2 days and no call. I called them back multiple times and it just kept ringing. Reserved an SUV from this location for two days. Was told they had no SUVs and that I had to wait for one to be cleaned. Waited half an hour and was given a dirty Jeep Compass. Avis' commitment to cleanliness (especially during a global pandemic) is obviously a bunch of BS. I spoke with staff member "Kevin Khou" who simply said "we don't have any other cars" and put in no extra effort to find a resolution to the problem. He told me I could wait longer and he could have the car cleaned "again." The whole ordeal already took 1+ hours and I wasn't about to wait longer. As an Avis Preferred Plus member, I should be able to get in a car and get out within a matter of minutes... but apparently not at this location. Lazy and lackluster customer service. Avis preferred member here. A few hours before our flight they emailed me to let me know that I was "Upgraded" to a Ford Mustang. I did not request the upgrade which would be completely inappropriate traveling with an 80 yo and two dogs. It took an hour of my time to get everything changed back. Then, When I arrived my car was not ready with all the other preferred members, car they tried to stick me with was complete POS. 3 golf ball sized dents, both bumpers so scratched they should be replaced, and it also looked as if the car wasn't cleaned properly from last use. Never been disappointed with Avis in the past but I would avoid this place. Recently rented a car here through Pricelines name your own price. Found the staff to be outstanding. The service was great, the car was clean and there was no pressure for upsells, other then letting me know about my options. The line moved very quickly which was pleasant and the service clerk who helped me clearly enjoyed his job. The only thing that needs immediate attention is it is difficult to know where to return your car to when a car is parked in the first return spot (that covers the Avis drop off logo). Granted, this might be marked as a no parking spot (dont know), but they need to make it so this spot is always clear. Made reservations a week ago for a mini van. Had to pickup the van at 8pm due to our arrival. Get to the location and they have no mini van available. The clerk offered an suv but due to the fact that we are transporting a disabled family member we were unable to accept the offer, we need a wide door and low setting vehicle to accommodate our needs. We have no other means of transportation since we are in town for the day. The closest location was LAX which was not an option for us. We asked if a mini van could be delivered to this location from the LAX location. NO the was not an option. I am very upset and would not recommend to anyone. read more

There were a couple of people in front of use but we didn't wait too long. Then our car was parked close by. We were on the road in minutes. The customer service was under par here. When I got my rental the person at the counter was not friendly at all. He wasn't rude either but it was just very awkward. The Van I got was semi clean, I could tell that the carpet haven't been vacuumed due to sand+leaves left in the car. Anyway, when I returned my rental I had forgot my Fitbit in the car. Later that night I realized it and called Avis immediately. The person on the phone checked the lost and found but did not find it. They took my name down and said they would check and call me when the car was returned in about 2 days. I called back 3 days later and the person said they didn't even have my name down anywhere to check. So once again I left my name and info for the car. This happened again about a week later so I gave up. In the end, it was my fault for leaving my item in the car and I know Avis was not responsible for it. One of the person cleaning the car could have taken it or the next person rented it, who knows. But the customer service seemed like nobody really cared about their jobs nor the care for be Car cause obviously they don't clean it enough to find items in the center console or anything. read more

I have always had a great experience at AVIS as a preferred customer up until now. I have spent close to $1000 in a few months renting from AVIS, and the rental offerings, service, and price have been world class. There has been exemplary service received from Jumon Loving, Jeffrey Patterson as well as Raul Gonzalez. They have a standard of care that should be the industry standard in terms of quality. But sadly, on Friday 10/9/2021 I received an absolute travesty of treatment from an employee that should never be allowed to interact with customers as the face of your company. I came to pick up my reserved vehicle and was met by an extremely unwelcome and hostile manner from Mike Eames. As I stood waiting for my turn to engage with him and conduct business , he looked up from the customers that he was talking to and gave me a head nod and said " What's up? " No greeting, no smile, nothing. Just an extremely sour face that conveyed his feeling toward me for having the nerve to bother him at all. He said very gruffly that he would get to me when he was finished. I said "no worries" and waited off to the side about 30 feet away. When he finally deliberately slowly sauntered over and asked if I had a problem, I informed him that I was just waiting for him to check over the vehicle before I take possession with the customary walk-around to ascertain any previous cosmetic damage. He then condescendingly rattled of some Consumer Affairs rant about product liability as it pertains to rentals. Instead of engaging with him about his hostile demeanor, I asked him " Are you having a bad day Sir?", his response was " No, and I don't want to start one with you" I was flabbergasted at the sheer audacity to treat a paying customer in this manner. I responded with "fair enough", checked out the vehicle and promptly left. On return, the manager: Jeffrey Patterson was professional and courteous as I voiced my concern, and provided me information to provide feedback on my experience. read more

Relatively easy car rental from Avis in Long Beach. We originally made a reservation via Costco, but when we got to the counter they were able to get us a slightly better "Walk Up/ Competitor's Rate" and saved us a few dollars. The person who helped us was very friendly. We were able to get in and out of Avis in about 15 minutes after all the paperwork. The only thing I was disappointed in was the condition of the car we received. I've rented a few cars and this was the most beat up one yet with plenty of chip paints and scratches. The interior had staining on the passenger's side seat, a little gross, but you could tell that they had at least cleaned the car recently. Worse of all, there was a plastic piece near the right wheel that was broken and rubbed against the tire whenever we turned left which was extremely frustrating and unsafe. Luckily this piece didn't puncture the tire. Overall I would probably rent from Avis again, but hopefully they step up the quality of their vehicles. read more

Dear Avis, I'm surprised to see your tag line on your website 'we're in the business of treating people like people.' I recently parked in an Avis spot by accident while waiting for my brother to rent a car from Enterprise (the spot was not clearly marked and was in front of the Enterprise booth at the Long Beach Airport). A young gentleman knocked on my window and told me to move the car or he will have it towed. I agreed and moved the car to idle in front of the enterprise booth. Shortly thereafter, three police vehicles surrounded my car and multiple officers interrogated me about the situation--claiming I refused to move the vehicle when the Avis employee asked and that I was being difficult and belligerent. I don't understand what compelled your employee to call the police and lie about the situation. I did not catch his name at the time as he simply asked me to move the car and I did. I am still in shock of the Avis employee and the officer s that answered the call. Thanks for treating me like a criminal--I will be sure to keep this in mind for future reservations. read more

There is a longer version of this story, but I'll (try to) keep it simple. A friend of mine was moving a long distance with not a lot of items. In case you are like us and you didn't know this: U-Haul only rents cargo vans to people moving somewhere in-state. So we were looking at her options for moving what amounted to being little furniture but a lot of boxes. The tiniest U-Haul truck you can rent is the 10' and that comes to over $1500 for our purposes. We checked out other movers and various 'pod' moving options and came up with similar prices. Then we looked at rental car companies with vans and came up with a price around $500. Avis was the only company we called who could tell us immediately whether or not the seat would fold down in their minivans. And once we got to the location, they even put the seats down for us. This was nice since we were pretty wiped out after a day of moving boxes and packing them. My friend also asked for a different van than the one she was given keys for and this was no problem. Thanks, Avis, for being so accommodating and saving us over a thousand bucks. What a relief read more

LGB is the airport other airports should strive to be. Everything is compact but functional and efficient including the car rental operation just outside the terminal. Although I work out of LAX and have no company business in LGB on a regular basis, I prefer renting here. I didn't fly in but I was still able to easily find Avis from Wardlow and Lakewood. I visited on a Monday around noon and there was no queue. A friendly agent found my reservation right on the back wall and handed me the keys to a black Corolla which was clean if beat up. When I returned to the trailer to report the damage, the agent stopped what he was doing with another customer to field my quick question. Noteworthy! The car had working Bluetooth, a color touch display and a fit my Jellyfish phone holder so I was happy. When I returned the car on Thursday, again no waiting. The agent checked the car in, remembered me from check-in and didn't ask about the marks and dents it already had. I received a hard copy of my receipt and they emailed me one later. I will rent here again for sure! read more

I had a pleasant experience at the Avis at the Long Beach Airport. The customer service rep. that did mine and my father's car transaction was wonderful. Unfortunately, I didn't get his name but he mentioned that he was retired Army when my dad said he was retired Navy. In any case, he gave us great customer service chatting it up with us about our family reunion which brought us into town, etc. We booked an economy car thought Priceline.com which usually gives you a tiny car such as a Hyundai Accent. Luckily, the customer service rep. was able to upgrade us to a Chevy Cruze which was a a much bigger vehicle. Score! Returning the car was pretty easy as checking the car back in was pretty straight forward. Just had to go back into the office for the receipt. I am docking one star because the the rental parking lot at Long Beach is kind of a clusterf***. People driving through parking spaces, weaving in and out of double parked lanes, kinda dangerous! I'm sure its no fault of Avis but kind of pain in the butt regardless. read more

When I picked up the car Yash said he will give me Sirius radio since I was going to Mexico and he wanted to know if it was gona work there ok fine when we come back from Mexico we get an extra bill for the xm radio and for an extra day we kept the car but when we called customer service to ask if there was a Grace period we could return the car without getting charged an extra day they said we had 5 hour grace period which we thought that's awesome we can make it to the other location since the one on cypress closes at 2 on Sunday. But guess what they don't have a 5 hour Grace period on top of that they charge an extra day the Sirius radio and a whole bunch of other charges. Never renting from avis again they have the worse customer service and poor computer system that doesn't let them change a reservation and then they try blaming it on you as to why we didnt return the car on time and charge you double than the contract you sign and when you contact customer service they take keep you on the phone forever and say someone is going to call you back 5 hours later no one has called back and you call again and say it may take from 24-48 hours for someone to call you back then you get an email explaining is your fault you are getting charged all that instead of a call. We had bad experience before with avis but our problem got resolved so we thought why not give it another try but after this I will NEVER USE THEM on top of all this the car I got was dirty inside and out, had terrible handling like it had no shocks and very uncomfortable. read more

Super easy process. I got in Wednesday at 4pm and picked up my car at 430p. No line at Avis, got my SUV in the lot as expected. I was inspecting the car carefully (I do this everytime and everyone should, too, inside and out). Noticed a couple of small, pebble sized dents along with dirt in the interior that I wanted documented. Gilbert came over and was so friendly and professional and went above the call of duty to document everything, providing his employee id number and name should there be any problems that I can refer to him (why can't everyone be like him?) Pick up was super easy from LGB airport and drop off to LAX (tip: it's faster, easier and even though slightly more expensive, rent a car from LGB and drop it off at LAX if you need to get to LA.
