I was a Avis Prefered customer. The service at the Long Beach airport was terrible, terrible, terrible. I never rent a car or refer my people to rent a car from Avis again.
On June 8th, 2012 about 8:45pm I called the Avis airport office in Long Beach to make sure that they have the 12 passengers van ready for me to pick up. Nobody there to answered my call. I was schedule to get the van at 9:00pm. I went ahead and drove to their office to get the van. Since I have already had a confirmation number 2 months ago. To my astonishment after a long hard work day of which I was already tired. 2 persons at the counter name Debbie and Kevin said that the van was out of service, I asked them "Did you know that you will have a customer come to pick up the van at 9:00pm today?". Their answer was "Yes". If you know that, so "Why didn't you do something, so that the customer don't have to wait now?. Their reaction was as if nothing ever happen. Kevin offered me a 8 passengers with the same charge. I told him I need a 12 passengers van like my reservation says. Kevin talked to Debbie, she made a phone call, then they told me that they have a 12 pasengers van in Los Angeles airport. If I want it I have to drive to the LAx airport to get it. They did something in their computer, Kevin hand me the key of KIA Suv and told me to drive this car to the LAX airport, just tell the attendant that this car was for exchange for the van, he even offer me when I return the van at Long Beach airport just return the van half full for my convenience, I want him to make a note on my agreement and in their computer too. Avis logo was "We try harder" , but I don't think they try hard enough at the Long Beach airport. By the time I get out of their office it was 9:45pm.
It was at night so I had trouble finding their office at LAX. By then I was fed up about their service, but I have no other option, because I have to drive out of state early in the morning and I need the van, which I had planned the trip so far in advance. I don't want to miss anything.
Once again I did't expect those troubles, when I came to their parking lot, it was 10:37pm before I have a chance to tell the attendant that this car was for exchange for another van, Sam keep doing his work by scanning his things and then gave me the receipt, I told him this was for exchange for the van, Sam told me to go inside the office they will take care of it. Sermon at the counter was very nice he told me he will take care my problem, when he put the info into his computer, he told me " I can not help you, because Sam already close the agreement, you have to pay for 1 day rent on that KIA Suv". OH MY GOD " Am I have enough troubles for today?". He went to get the manager, but I have to wait again, when Mario his manager came out, they talked then he show Sermon how to void my 1st contract, then did my 2nd contract. When they're done with their paperwork, I told Mario that, I has encountered the same problem with the same van at onother car rental company, few year back and the manager offered me free of charge on everything, "Can you do that?", His answer was " The best I can do was take off $75.00 from the original price". I asked him " Did you know that nice people will read the review before they rent a car from your Avis office?". He answered "Yes", and it seems like he didn't care. I was so tired, I just want to get the van to go home to sleep to get up early in the next morning ,so I just took the van for that price with all the troubles I had to go through to get it. By the time I got out of their office it was 11:45pm,because I have to go back to the Long Beach airport to get my other car, about 3 hours in their office to drive back and forth 50 miles round trip to get the van, plus all of the headache I got.
When I get back from my vacation I call the Avis customer service to tell them my problem, the clerk name Emily understood my situation, she offer me $300.00 off from the original price, I told her I want to talk to her supervisor , when she came to the phone (Sandy was her name), she told me all she can do was took off 1 day rental off my contract, I was still not satisfy, so I request for another manager, then came Amanda, she offer the same deal as the Sandy, I told her your offer was less than your employee offer, she said that's a mistake. I request for another manager, Amanda told me that they had 7 supervisors and everybody will offer the same deal like her. I thank for her help, because it will not go any further than that.
When I call American Express ,Shaddae was so nice, knowlegable, professional, she listened to my problem , she said she will set up an investigation for that problem to get my money back, I have to wait to see the respond from the car rental company. In the meantime I don't have to pay whatever amount I owe Avis until this case settle down.
