After being left stranded due to flight delays throughout the day and an early closure by Dollar Car Rental in the Jackson, MS airport, I had NO recourse but to rent from the ONLY available car rental desk open! I had flown into Jackson for an unexpected funeral and HAD to be in attendance just 12 hours after landing. I still had an hour's worth of driving ahead of me, as well. Needless to say, I was LIVID that Dollar had not kept their commitment to hold my car for 8 hours following the delay caused by the airlines. Hell, they didn't even remain in the building nor pass off the reservation to any other companies that participate in the rental business alongside them at JAN airport. Once I calmed down enough and regained my composure, I approached the Avis desk. I had no other option. Haji, the associate at the desk, was a miracle worker! He kept complete composure, remained calm, explained everything I needed to know about their contracts and saved the evening! He quickly assigned me an SUV and had me on my way in less than 15 minutes. Once I got to the car & opened the door to place my suitcase inside, I was met with the most pungent smell of marijuana that I think I've EVER smelled. It literally smacked me in the face when I opened the trunk lid and both front doors, despite the $450 warning sticker on the windows. Clearly, whomever checks the cars back in doesn't meticulously look over/through the cars when receiving them back. (I personally verified this myself when returning to the airport on my way home. The attendant scanned a barcode on the window and told me to place the keys on the dashboard. He never got inside the car nor walked around the outside of it, either. ) Despite the over-whelming smell, I was able to attend the funeral, and safely get to and from the airport. Essentially, that IS all I NEEDED! So, once again, a HUGE shoutout to Haji at the Jackson-Evers airport in MS! Thank you for your efforts and concern! They were extremely helpful for me over the phone. I had a few modifications with flight changes, etc. and everyone was very patient. When I picked up and returned the vehicle, the process was quick. Arrived last night to an empty desk with customers wondering how to get the rental cars they booked. Hertz rep said "they all went home, ran out of cars". So Avis overbooks reservations and leave customers stranded. I need to be in LA tonight and am stuck with no other rental options available in the next day or two from any company in town. Let me tell you how much Avis Rental cars suck. This trip, flat tire today... Last trip 2 weeks ago, had to put air in the tires a couple times because they were going flat. Week before that my coworker had the same experience. My trip the week before that, another flat tire. Rental before that smelt like George Burns was hot-boxing cigars. Before that, no brakes (metal on metal!!) on right front wheel. I could go on for about 2-3 years worth of rentals. If work didn't force me, I'd never ever use Avis. Twice in a row they have charged a fuel service fee despite me telling the person I gave the keys to that I had filled it up (and declining the fuel option when I picked the car up). Check your receipt and be ready to call Avis corporate for a refund of the fuel fee. read more

I will NEVER rent from Avis again! How do you make a mistake and charge a card that was NOT mines! I Have no clue who card it was. You NEVER can reach anyone at the Avis and it's goes to their call center. I had to call corporate and they told me it will take 3-5 business days! Why would it take that long to fix what you messed up?! I'm Scared that whomever card it is they will press charges! This is beyond me! I can't say enough about the staff at this Avis location. When our flight was delayed in Chicago, I was sure that I would miss my father's viewing. We sprinted from the plane to the car rental kiosk only to find that all Budget rentals were being taken care of by Avis. Double the people waiting for cars and half the staff. My heart sank. The line was a mile long and we had a two hour drive ahead of us. David walked over from the preferred booth to make sure there were no preferred customers waiting in line. When he saw my face, he asked if he could help. I explained that my dad had just passed away and I was late to his viewing. He whisked me off to the preferred booth and we were on the road 10 minutes later. The rental process was seamless and the car was clean. Thank you Avis--and David-- for making a sad experience a little bit brighter :) read more

The company left me stranded at the airport. I call there customer service twice today to confirm that my rental will be ready when my flight lands and the customer service person assured me that a person will be available until the last plane lands. Every other car rental company was there but no Avis. I am stranded at the airport with my family and the nearest person I know live 3 hrs away and is not capable of picking me up. We literally have to stay at the airport until the next day because we have no other options. My children are tired and we have no place to go. The only reason I booked with your company was because you assured me that Avis will accommodate the airport schedule. This is the worst service I have ever received. Don't rent here. I had a problem with the rental receipt and had to contact them. No answer for three hours. Called corporate number and was told they couldn't help me I had to call the local number. I explained that they would not answer and was told sorry that wasn't her problem. I literally had to call National Car Rental to get them to ask Avis to call me. Then I got the receipt on the internet and I was charged 36 dollars for a refueling charge even though I returned it full. (I returned it early in the morning before they were opened.). Contacted Avis through web since (what a surprise) the local Jackson facility didn't answer their phone. They corrected it but told me I should have shown the receipt at check in. If I could give 0 reviews, I would. Avis has lost a customer permanently. Upon arriving to Jackson airport Avis preferred desk, the representative could not speak as she had just undergone dental surgery. I discovered this by her charades explanation. I then proceeded to wait 20 minutes for my car as someone across the airport apparently had to bring the contract. Annoying, but this experience wouldn't have even been enough for me to contact their customer service. I proceed to my Ford Fusion to find that the smell of marijuana radiation from the car was so strong, you could smell it before even opening the doors. I tried to explain this to the representative who shooed me along my way while she dealt with other customers, while also not being able to speak. I called Avis first thing and was unable to reach the customer service dept as they had closed. I then sent an email explaining the issue. (Of note, the USB port also didn't work on top of this). I did not receive a response from Avis until day 3 of my rental explaining they were "sorry about the smoke" and ignoring all other aspects of my experience. They gave me a $40 coupon for my troubles. I then responded explaining this was not just cigarette smoke, but heavy duty marijuana stench that caused issues for my customers in my car and caused me to smell like a joint even upon exiting the vehicle for the entire week. I was told that since the car was now returned 4 days later, the local representatives had certainly rectified my issues when I brought the car back. Of course this did not happen. My husband went and picked up a vehicle from the Flowood, MS location on 6/23. We had to wait 30 minutes before someone assisted us at the counter, the representative was very nice but the vehicle we text was horrible. We was given a Ford Fusion, the oil change light was on, the car shut off on us twice but started right back up. We was supposed to leave to travel to New Orleans 6/23 but due to the nature of the car we were afraid of getting on the road with the oil light on and the car shutting off. The car do have eco boost but the car actually shut off. We contacted Avis inside of the Walmart (where we picked the car up from) the same representative from yesterday advised us to take the car to the airport & they would swap the vehicle out being that she didn't have any vehicles. Upon arrival at the Jackson Airport we was greeted by Sarah, Sarah provided us with a Subaru Legacy (seem smaller compared to the Ford Fusion). My husband asked Sarah for a discount being that we were inconvenienced, we weren't able to check into our hotel and was fully charged and Sarah said she was unable to honor the discount and couldn't provide us with an extra day either. a zero rating would be a kind one for my experience here. Is there a negative scale? Three things learned about Avis in Medger Evers airport : a) Despite having pre-arranged this car rental through a 3rd party vendor online, that the price & rules were not the same, for apparently just me. b) This Avis agency had no interest in my business or how I was treated, and any one particular employee is apparently allowed to determine who this company will conduct business with at any given moment. It is discrimination, plain & simple. Not racism or sexism, as I am a Caucasian woman myself, but discriminatory nonetheless. c)A pre-arranged price is NOT binding and if the car you have pre-arranged to rent is not available, tough. No one cares or even attempts to remedy. I have never once in my life been treated so rudely while attempting to conduct business anywhere, in travel or in fact, in any day to day business interactions. I know that this was not an isolated incident. I am certain that this has happened before and will continue to happen to anyone at any given time at Avis in Jackson Medger Evers airport. Yes, I was frustrated with the changes in price & car available, but NONE of this should have happened. I never raised MY voice. I did walk away from the counter to contact customer service, who eventually remedied the situation by over-riding the entirety of our "non refundable purchase price" once we'd been told "too bad, no refunds." Avis Customer Service was actually quite apologetic and helpful. Oddly enough, the understanding man on the phone, could not "get in contact with the local Avis agency." We did lose the $60 value of additional liability insurance purchased through priceline. One particular employee, a very self important ,abrasive, Caucasian woman in her 40s, decided that she "WOULD NOT RENT", throwing her hands in my mother's face, dismissing us as if our business was not wanted and that SHE personally could negate any and all business, based on some unknown personal issue she had with me from the moment I approached the counter. I regret not getting her name, as I was distracted by the horrific "service" received. She had long, dirty blonde curly-ish hair and a horrible attitude. I lost 2 hours of not only my life, but my vacation travel time attempting to complete what should have been a simple 10 minute business exchange. I was condescended to, harassed and seemingly trapped at this airport with few options. This particular woman actually ANNOUNCED to (what seemed to me) the entire airport, as loudly as possible, that my debit and credit card would not be accepted and that could "CONTACT EQUIFAX CREDIT AGENCY" .Again, as loudly as she could. She all but asked if I could "afford" to rent a car at all. I assure you is not the issue and nothing about my appearance or demeanor would insinuate this. It would be shameful and exceptionally rude if that were the case, but it is not. I was not clearly informed of the Avis policy, purchasing through priceline on a simple last minute google search, but instead of attempting to correct this issue, this irate employee proceeded to use it as a way to humiliate me for her own pleasure. She even told us "too bad" we don't have any SUVS. Not her problem and the attitude was "what are you going to do about it?" Oddly enough, she had no issue providing an SUV to the next customer in line, a Caucasian man, all while smirking and glaring at us as we attempted to cancel the rental car. We even agreed to pay an additional $115 due to misunderstanding about policies. After we, against our better judgement, processed the rental for the inflated price, this horrid woman then announced in a very loud tone that she "WOULD NOT RENT" while throwing her hands in my mother's face. So we not only were expected to pay 30% more, not receive the car we reserved, THEN this employee, after a supposed nonrefundable purchase, is allowed to decide that SHE WILL NOT RENT. I was not aware that a "customer service" agent- oh the irony of that title- could make such a decision. I can guarantee this, I certainly will never conduct business with Avis again, anywhere world wide. No friends, family or acquaintances of mine will either. Avis lost a lot of customers last Tuesday, as those waiting in line or even walking through the terminal, will not either. Total strangers, both travellers and staff of the airport & other rental agencies approached us to volunteer their disgust with the whole nightmarish situation. One person even commented "I hope this doesn't ruin your time here in Mississippi". I am a native, but I thought that to be a kind remark, particularly from a stranger. After this horrendous debacle, as I drove out of the airport, the parking lot attendant apologized for the entire saga, as she had heard about the outrageous scene this employee had made before I could exit the airport. Be very careful dealing with Avis at this location. I brought my car back completely full of gas and didn't look at my receipt until I went through TSA. They charged me $27.60 Fuel Service. I called 888 583 6369 and had it removed. They wanted the gas receipt, which I never have. They said they would take my word this "on time only". Now I know better and I will be changing my "preferred customer" status to another car rental to another company. Very disappointed! read more

WORST EVER. DO NOT RENT HERE. Christmas Day I arrived to pick up my rental, which was for a Ford Fusion or similar, and when I get to the counter the lady working (Amber) offered me a free upgrade. I asked her a bunch of times about the price, upon which she repeatedly told me it was the same as the Ford Fusion. I would only be paying $133, but they would give me a Camaro instead of the ford. On the paperwork she explained that the $433 was just a necessary hold, but I'd only be charged the $133. I was an idiot to believe her. When I saw that I was charged the $433, I immediately called the Avis Budget group manager (Bridget Whitman) to tell her what happened. She was nasty to me saying I'd signed the paperwork and had no proof so I wasn't getting my money back. I called billing and the lady seemed to have the same response ready. No one seemed to even want to help me or listen to what had happened. I had flown down there because my mother had a heart attack and was fading....after hearing this Amber decided to con me about a free upgrade...on Christmas. I thought she was being nice because I was blatantly in a sad place, but instead she decided to take advantage of me. Judging by Bridget Whitman's lack of caring, they con people like this all the time. Instead of trying to help me, everyone with this company immediately asked for recorded proof of the conversation. The only proof I have is my boyfriend as a witness, so they told me there's no way I get my money back.
