Let me start off by saying Chris is absolutely amazing. I hope the company knows what a valuable, dedicated employee they have. Recently I have rented from avis/budget twice this month and Chris has been exceptional! I typically rent from a competitor but avis prices have been beating the competition. Great ride great value and great person. read more

My wife and I went to this location to look at a car we were interested in buying. The employee working the counter, Zaid, was rude, condescending and unprofessional. In fact, the way he spoke to my wife, leads me to think he has a problem with women. I will NEVER rent from or consider purchasing a car from Avis. Additionally, when I asked for Zaid's business card, I later realized he had provided a card for a different employee. read more

First and probably last yelp post. Big shout out to Chris!! Outstanding customer service.

Rented a Jeep Wrangler last Friday. "Nick" made the process easy, and I got the most competitive price in town. The vehicle was clean and ready to go. My quickest rental experience. I will shop here again. read more

Best customer service ever. Chris has bent over backwards helping get the best deal and making sure I'm satisfied with my rentals. I have been renting with Avis since my accident in September and they have made my life so much easier. Been in the Fusion, Q50, and the Camry and I loved them all. Clean and well maintained fleet of vehicles. Highly recommend coming here than those other shops that just want your money. read more

Hello, I'm not big on writing reviews, can hardly find the time and frankly, Im rarely impressed enough by someones customer service to go out of my way. But after my experience this past couple of days, and how above and beyond one of your service staff went for me, I have to give feedback. I'm in the customer service industry and its extremely difficult to find good team members that truly enjoy doing the right thing and bringing 100% satisfaction to the table for not just the consumer, but the employer as well. Chris, an awesome team member at Avis/Budget El Cajon did just that on the 30th of April and again yesterday, May 2. I had received a call from my daughter who was about to have an emergency c section in Santa Barbara. She was by herself and extremely scared and I didn't know what to do. I ran around trying to reserve a vehicle, any vehicle, to get to her safe and time was of the essence. I went to numerous car rental places.. I'm not afraid to say that first Enterprise, who I have rented from numerous times, was informed of my situation just to waste my time and neglect the situation when they had no vehicle to offer after taking my reservation. Then to Hertz. They reserved a car, ran my card filled out my information....etc. I had the total cost plus deposit to in my bank account when I handed the woman at the El Cajon office my debit card she refused to take it stating that it has to be a credit card. Another hour wasted! I left and cried in the car and didn't know what to do. It was 5:55pm and no business would be open after 6. I live next to the parkway plaza in El Cajon and visit Best Buy and Homegoods on a weekly basis. Not one time had I ever noticed the Avis store located in the same strip mall! I'm coming home crying feeling helpless and hopeless I see your store. I pull up but its dark (front windows are tinted) it's 5:59pm and I think its rude to walk in right before closing but I was desperate. I walk in and see this young man behind the desk sitting waiting for someone to bring back a car. He sees that I'm upset and asks if I'm ok and after I tell him the situation he jumps into action immediately. Running my information, informing me of the deals and prices and reassures me everything is going to be fine. He was so amazing! I drove away in this amazing car with reliability and assurance. I feel like adopting this guy. Great job to the hiring manager for seeing that special quality in Chris that makes the best customer service in the industry. The contrast between my bad experiences that day and the service I received from Chris is night and day. As for my daughter, I didn't make it before the surgery, but by the time she came out of recovery I was there and couldn't be happier for you guys making it possible. Leilani was born healthy and happy and, no kidding, the most beautiful baby I have ever seen! Thanks Avis and Chris! 5 STARS. read more

So, the location is convenient if you're heading east to Phoenix or Tucson. The staff is very nice. My experience was less than desirable. The car had a broken USB charger which is needed for long drives across the desert for safety. Additionally, it is clear on the reservation where the drop off will be and staff had an hour to make sure I had a clean car filled with gas. It was given to me half empty and the closest gas station was terrible. So it took me an extra 45 minutes to get on the road. The staff said they would update the time to an hour later and adjust the gas. They did neither. Luckily, I took photos of the mileage and the amount of gas which has a time stamp on my phone. Otherwise, Avis would have charged me another $100. I'm sure the El Cajon office would have made a higher commission had I not had proof. I don't know if it was accidental or on purpose but it was pretty crappy on both the receiving end and the return. On the other hand, because I had documentation, my local Avis fixed the charge. And on top of that, the El Cajon added a 2.06 charge. So I had to spend more time with Avis getting it fixed. I don't know about you, but this isn't really how I enjoy spending my time. Avis is typically pretty seamless with nice cars. I'll think twice before renting from El Cajon again. read more

It's stupid place ever, pls don't go this place so called car rental l, where they can cost u more that the original agreement to extend less than 24 hr. Their Customer services reps are the most disrespectful. I will never go their nor suggest this shit place to anyone. read more

Chris is amazing. He's very professional, attentive, great people skills and customer service. Honestly it was so busy and Chris had a great attitude and was polite the whole time. Their cars are clean and drive so smooth. Look forward to coming back. read more

Just awful. The service on the first day was okay. The guy at the desk seemed swamped, but gave me a small discount since the rental they gave me was still dirty. I overlooked this due to the discount and simply took it in for a wash. When I returned the car after several weeks there was a different person running the place. He was a younger guy who had apparently been on vacation when I rented. He had a bit of an attitude when I asked a few questions, but I returned the car and was on my way. The next day however, I find out that my bank account is in the red because they double charged me a month's worth AND tried to scam me out of a "late fee" I most certainly did not owe! Although I was able to get things sorted rather quickly, this is shady behavior/bad business practice in my opinion and I will never ever recommend Avis to anyone. They tried to rob me hoping I wouldn't notice and caused me quite a bit of inconvenience. 1/10 read more

In short you will WAIT A LONG TIME due to short staff and no vehicles. Pay the extra $5 and go to Enterprise. I wish I would have read the reviews before booking. With my experience I really thought that this must just be an off day or something. But as I read through, it seems to be repeat offenses, and that is why I am choosing to inform others of what they may be getting themselves into by going here. I called the night before my reservation to see if the do pick ups. They said yes and that when I was ready, to just call for someone to come pick me up. So the next morning when it was time, I called 6 times with no response. Great, luckily the guy at the auto shop had pity on me and gave me a ride there. There was nobody behind the desk and a couple of other customers waiting and also wondering what was going on. The phone seemed like merely a suggestion to answer while it continuously rang during the course of my 3 hour wait. Poor girl was working by herself and had no vehicles. Her and the car detail guy left the desk for upwards of 30 minutes to go get cars one by one. A customer came in to drop off her car and I watched in astonishment as she helped herself behind the desk to leave a note with paperwork and keys to her rental. Little did I know that would be the disgusting vehicle they were going to try to put me in after waiting for 2 hours. The outside was covered in bird poop and filthy like it hadn't been washed in weeks. So upon inspection I asked them to clean it. They took off bird poop but didn't wash the car! Whatever, I'd deal... I go to get in and find stains, spilled gunk in the cup holder, and it smelt like they didn't even put out their cigarettes before putting the window up. (Ashes all over dash, door, seats to confirm the smell) I wanted to cry knowing I finally could leave but could not use this vehicle for work. A lady needing to leave badly after waiting over an hour was willing to bear the cigarettes for the 2 hour drive she was making, so she took the car. So I was put at the end of the line and waited another hour for the vehicle I ended up with. It was a good car, no complaints. They offered no compensation beyond the upgrade of vehicle due to no other inventory. read more

My Nightmare renting from Avis....The 1st car had to be taken back, it smelled of cigarettes. The 2nd one was so filthy, it had hay and grain all through it. The lady told me to go have it cleaned and they would reimburse me. They took so long that l missed my Dr. Appt. Causing me to pay a $50 no show to a specialist I was waiting 3 months to see. So going from San Diego to Oakland, the car kept overheating. Thats when l found out that Avis has no roadside service. I was told to take it to the Oakland AirPort. After fighting to get another car, l get to downtown Oakland and this car is stalling out upon take off, l go to a Avis downtown, the agent tells me he will have to road test it..Really.. So I go back to Oakland Airport and get my 4th car. What a mess and a waste of vacation time. Never Again.... read more

This was the worst place to rent a car. I would give zero stars if I could. We prepaid and got there to pick it up turns out you can't use a debit card to prepay they gave us a hard time. Because there customer service was so bad we decided to not rent there and to get our refund we had to call the 800 number. Worst place ever and rudest people ever. We ended up going to Enterprise in Lemon Grove in and out in 15 minutes customer service was awesome and Debit cards ok. Go to Enterprise don't waist your time here. read more

Quick, efficient and helpful service from the Avis rep, Chris. Had our rental checked-in in less than 5 minutes.

Not a good place to rent, they lie on you, they will give u a deferent car, and send u to the airport to change it then they will not give u the car that you rent it, i I'm not going back here anymore, and they still charge us even tho we return the car on that day, this place is read more

I contact Avis Car Sales in order to test drive a car I was interested in buying. Avis arranged to have the vehicle transported to the El Cajon, CA office, close to my home, in order for me to inspect. The lady at the Avis counter was very helpful and courteous, but the negative rating was for the condition of the car when presented. This car had not even been cleaned, it still had copious amounts of beach sand on the floor, even old food wrappers and used toothpicks (with food) on the floor and in the center console. There were hot chocolate stains on the seats and headliner, the windows were so dirty it was hard to look safely, when attempting to use the window washer, the blades were so damaged it only streaked the windows even more. The test drive consisted of a trip to the nearest body shop (on nearly bald tires) to get an estimate on repairing the obvious damage to the rear bumper and trunk. Once contacted by Avis sales representative (via email), I was instructed by them to go (myself) and locate their car (which had already been returned), take pictures of the damaged condition and submit these to them so they could consider any allowances towards correcting these, if at all. When I was finally contacted via phone by Avis Car sales representative I mentioned the experience details, and the initial response was ""hey, these are rental cars, they are not in showroom condition, and we price them correctly for the market. We are not going to spend tons money on correcting issues on these cars, they are sold as is". In retrospect, I do not fault the attendant at this location, she was professional and friendly at all times. But the response from the Avis sales representative was deplorable, and not conducive to good business, to say the least. I would expect that when selling a car, used or otherwise, it would at least be clean and in condition to present to a qualified prospective buyer. read more

I have rented from here a few times already and I love how quick and easy the process is. Issue with the bait and switch billing procedures I tried to rent a car from the location early Saturday afternoon 02/11/18-wasnt able to my card was a prepaid debit-later on got my friend to use her credit card to get the car for me. In the original reservation I told them I did not need insurance I had Geico, when it came time to try and get the card with the pre paid debit card I asked if I needed insurance to get the car what would it be they quoted me 150 I still said not, when I got the reservation finally then never told me they had tacked it on without my knowledge. they close at 4 and it was a little after 4 so we were both rushing. Then I also called back on the day I return the car Tuesday 02/13 stating I had returned it a day early but that there was a gas issue. I had only driven it to the casino 8 miles on Saturdays, no driving on Sunday and then to work and back to their place on Monday not dropping it off. Yet it used a half tank of gas. I spoke to Cheryl the owner herself who said she would look into it and get back to me. I never heard back from her. I got my receipt and flipped out. I was not only billed for the insurance but also 50.33 for gasoline. This car does not even hold this much gas for a full tank. She never called me, never got back to me, I would have came back and filled it up if I had to. This is the most horrible experience I have ever had with your company. I have rented several times with you and Enterprise for over thirty years. I am appalled at what went down here. read more

I have rented from Avis before when they were at a different location in La Mesa and had always had great service. When they closed I went to the Avis in El Cajon and found Cheryl working there. Trust me, you will be treated with respect and I cannot understand the nastiness of the reviews about lying. Very good experience. read more

Rented a Suburban for a 1 way drive to LAX for 6 people and luggage. Went there to pick it up and they had a Tahoe for us. We said that we could never fit 6 people + luggage. They insisted that a Tahoe and a Suburban were the same class of vehicle in their world. On Avis's website, a Subarban is listed has a Premium SUV and the Tahoe is listed as a Full Size SUV. We ordered a Premium SUV, so how is that the same? read more

This place sucks!!! Yes the checkout is fast and that's because they don't give a sh*t. I thought ok fast check out that's nice but nope it's not. As soon as I got on the freeway the breaks starting squeaking. I should've went back and said something I know but I was in a rush to Vegas. Anyways I bring the car back sooner than it was supposed to be and didn't get the day refund back. Ok I let that go as well. But then 2 days later I have a voicemail saying they smelled marijuana and were charging my card an extra $250. Ya right !! Where's your proof? The guy who inspected the car when I returned it didn't seem to smell anything. If he did he should have asked me right then and there. Well since they didn't want to refund me, I had my bank help me out and got my money back. This place is ridiculous. I will never recommend this place or come back. And I rent cars a lot for traveling. So lost customer here. Have a great day. read more

Consumer beware. They will lie, cheat and charge your credit card (steal) as a matter of everyday business practice. Bill will be about 25% higher than quoted and your wallet will feel like it spent a rough weekend in the county lockup. There is no supervisor to speak to and the only employee "Cheryl" would be better suited holding a sign on a street corner (would be better at it) than doing anything with a customer service aspect required. Basic contract law (and the laws governing them) are not a concern for this company and you will have to sue them to get your money back once they have your credit card. Now I have to report fraudulent charges made by them to my credit card company among exercising other consumer rights. Would suggest you try rent a dent or any other company where you will have a better chance for some customer service and fair treatment. Even one star is one star too many for these crooks!!! read more

I rented the smallest car they had that had a trunk so I didn't have to leave my luggage in plain sight if I stopped for coffee. I got the car and proceeded on my trip. The car worked fine. It was just a standard little four cylinder. No extras. I went to return the car and when I reviewed the bill, I found that the clerk had padded the bill with something listed as an 'extra'. I asked four times what that might be. I never received an answer. She had also padded the bill with an 'extension' charge. I rented the car for two days and returned it early. An extension charge is for keeping the car longer. No one ever gave me a good explanation for the padding of my bill with unfounded charges. When I told them to remove the charges, they said the car had been smoked in and added $150. I did not smoke in the car, however, I spent most of the trip in the emergency room and my brother had to run around and take care of our business, pick up prescriptions, etc. so I could not speak to what he did - although he never has before. Additionally, they did not 'discover' that there was smoke in the car until after I had paid the original bill, and then challenged them on the over charges. In addition to accusations of smoking, I do not think the clerk handled the alleged smoking well. She is very unskilled at customer service, in addition to having suspect integrity with her billing practices. I am pretty sure I do not resemble her two year old child, which is how she behaved when she wanted to add a smoking charge. I don't have to pay for smoking charges, the business pays. Get it together Avis or get a real staff, but I think all of you should stay away. If for some reason there is nowhere else to rent a car (go to Mossy right down the street, I bought a new car from them the next day and saw that they had a rental service), check your bill very, very carefully. Integrity is lacking here. read more

I am an Avis Preferred Member, rent from this place a LOT. I typically have a car a week and sometimes 2. My last car was a 2 week rental. I dropped it off Sunday around 2pm (they close at 4). Around 7pm that evening, I realized I left a Starbucks gift bag with a Starbucks mug in the back driver floor board. No worries, I thought, Ill call right at 8am when they open, they had plenty of cars when I dropped mine off, the odds of it being rented Sunday in the two hour window may be slim. I called at 8:05am, told them I left a gift bag in the back floor board. I was told they are real busy, but would call me back. At 10am I still had not received a call back, so I called. I was first told, she had not heard back from the car washers, then she corrected herself and told me that the car washers didnt find anything or they assumed it was trash. I said that would be impossible to think it is trash, its a gift bag with tissue wrap sticking out of the top and would have been heavy. I asked if the car was still there. The reply was no, all the Malibu's are already gone. I own the fact that I left it in the car, I own that I will have to buy another one, no biggie. Its the fact that I totally feel lied to. I seriously doubt it wasn't seen and I seriously doubt it was thought of as trash. I will now go out of my way to rent from the airport center. read more
