Rented a RAV4 on March 16 through March 23. I had no problem with the front desk lady. She was very helpful and nice. She even adjusted the price for additional driver. I give her a good rating. The problem is with the vehicle. To start with I saw a huge tear like on the driver floor mats. I thought it's already on file as the rip looked filthy and old. Now I get a letter saying that they are charging me for the repairs and of course their customer service number is useless. Also from the day I rented till I returned, the tires were always on low pressure. So I thought I will get an exchange of the vehicle and the person at the office says that I have to just fill up the air to which I had to do it every day until I returned. It's the way he told me was as if I have not seen or done this with my own vehicle. This is gonna be my last time with AVIS of Concord, CA. I can't believe how rude the customer service person was to me! I booked a car online, they took out my money and then told me they can't rent to me because I have "Bad Credit" First of all, I was never told that my credit was going to be ran, I really don't understand how they think I have bad credit when I didn't even give them my SSC to run. Second of all, I have excellent credit!! Then they claim that can't do anything for me and they can't rent me the car any longer. Then they are trying to charge me a cancellation fee! What a rip off. I came 8 mins before they closed because I blew a tire in my car. I was grateful they were able to get me a car; however, they charged me $200 more than the internet price. The nice lady told me she couldn't change the price, I would have to book it online. I couldn't book it online, because at this time, the online website showed that this location was closed. I asked the lady if I could return the car early for a refund and she said yes. She failed to tell me, I had to return it by 1200 on any given day to get any kind of refund. So, I picked the car up at 1200 and returned the car a day earlier than I had anticipated and they still charged me an entire day because I dropped it off and 4 and not 12. So, instead of 24 hours early, I dropped it off 20 hours early and didn't get any money back. They can't give you a partial day refund? This place takes advantage of people. When I dropped the car off, I asked to do an I inspection with the lady and she said there wasn't a need for an inspection because I rented it there. She then continued to help another customer. That doesn't make sense to me.... for all I know, they could come back and say I damaged the car. Go somewhere else and always rent online if you have a choice, which I did not. Car was filthy. Front windshield had a Crack across it. Car only had a half tank of gas. Staff stated they would adjust the rental so I wouldn't be charged as long as I returned it with a half tank. When I returned it I put 3/4 of a tank back into it and was told I would be charged 58.00 because it did not have a full tank. Yes I took ohoto of the gas level when I got the car, but now I have to fight with Headquarters for a refund. Do yourself a favor and stay away from this location. read more

I just walked in,told her my car was at the Mazda service station across the street, and she gave me an incredible price on an intermediate size Hyundai. How incredible? Well, this is crazy. The OWNER is standing in front of my contracted, credit card has been run, ready to drive away truck and I'm waiting inside the vehicle waiting for the police to come. Why? She offered my daughter one of those little "pop button toys" which my 7yo said "Thank you Stephanie" for and then after the rental paperwork got completed, I went to drive away and realized the truck reeked of smoke. Not wanting to be charged, I went back in and mentioned I wanted another vehicle prior to renting this for TEN DAYS at full price - a tiff ensued and the owner demanded I give the toy (which was a gift) back from a SEVEN YEAR OLD. As this is completely ridiculous and not warranted, I said "no". We are now waiting for the police to arrive. She's even failing to help other customers, instead opting to stand in front of the truck so, IDK if this is normal but I see a lot of 1-star reviews and 5-star reviews is only to deduce that she's not offering consistent service. Avoid renting a car at this Avis Concord location at all cost! They have lost our business forever. I reserved our car 11 weeks in advance through Priceline. Unfortunately planning ahead as far as renting a car early did not matter. We received a call from Stephanie less than 24 hours before our rental was to be picked up, informing me there are no cars available and therefore cancelling our reservation. What kind of company would do such a thing by leaving us scrambling to find transportation less than 24 hours before picking up? What made matters worse is there was no apology what so ever, only suggested we call other local car rentals. I had to rush and contact other car rentals to finally settle with another company. Never again will I rent a car from there and believe me you shouldn't either. read more

I rented a car through Costco Travel and this place had the best price and location for me. It was about $160 total for 4 days. When I returned the car on the 4th day. It was about 10 am in the morning and their parking lot was completely full. I parked right by the entrance, ran in and asked them where they wanted me to put the car. This guy came out from behind the counter and said he would move the car for me to the street. I asked if I had to sign any paperwork and he said no. BIG MISTAKE on my part. When I looked at my credit card statement a few weeks later, they charged me an additional $750 claiming that I returned the car two days late. I called their customer service. They insisted this location said that I returned the car two days late but was willing to refund me $680 of the $750 charged. I had no proof that I returned the car on time as I did not get a receipt. I would not recommend this place for any business. It is a scam. If you absolutely have to rent from here, get a receipt to proof that you have returned the car on time. read more

The person at the front desk took a picture of my driver license and credit card using her personal cell phone (identity theft?). She couldn't provide any rental agreement when I took the car. She couldn't provide any receipt when I returned the car. She said that the system was down. When I called Avis Customer Service three days later, they said that I never picked up the car (no show) and will start an internal investigation. According to them, Avis never takes pictures of credit cards and driver license because of security concerns. It's a huge red flag. Who knows what she will do with hundreds of credit cards and driver licenses on her personal cell phone... read more

I have been renting cars on a weekly basis for work ever since the latter March of this year. From the start, Stephanie who is the owner has been very good to me. I know it's busy sometimes but it is a one woman shop and they were just starting back then. I hate that people are coming here giving bad reviews. Let's see you trying to start a business like this on your own. This is how businesses grow, you tell them where things are going wrong and advise them so that they stay around for your benefit. You don't push them down. Stephanie is always open to criticism and she actually appreciates it. She has tried to make the place look nice and has spent money trying to make changes, add furniture. Give the woman credit. I saw when I first started to come, she had curtains. Now she has walls and decent furniture. Just today I was freaking out because my company website showed it had no cars available, I called and told her my concern, she said, don't worry, I got you. Stephanie, I support you and will always rent only from you. Take care of the people who take care of you! Stop being so judgmental and instead of bashing people on an open forum, guide them, criticize them in a constructive manner, this is how businesses stay afloat. That's my .02 cents. Every time I needed a rental, I came here because the lady who used to work here had wonderful customer service. She isn't there anymore, tho, and I believe it's under new ownership now. When I got there, another customer was complaining that the windshield wiper didn't work (this is in February during the el Nino weather). He was telling the person behind the counter that he called their corporate office and was told to return the car, and they would replace it. The guy behind the counter dismissed him and said he had to call the corporate office because that was up to them, not him. He customer kept insisting it was unsafe, and he was afraid he'd get into an accident. This was already a bad sign, I should have already left after witnessing that. Anyway, when it was my turn the guy kept giving me different quotes, and I kept asking him how he came up those numbers, and his response was that his computer had issues. He couldn't tell me how much the daily rate of the car, tax, insurance, cleaning service, etc. costs. He just kept typing on his computer and gave random numbers like $136, $600, $900, $1000 for the same car for the same amount of rental time. I ended up leaving. I had another bad incident with this place, and with those two experiences, I'm never coming back here again. read more

Renting a car during Covid times freaked me out but my experience with this location was quite pleasant. I was greeted by a very friendly, professional woman named Stephanie. There were 6 feet apart social distancing stickers on the ground, hand sanitizer and plexiglass between us. The rental process was quick until I changed my mind on the model of car I wanted. Stephanie assured me it would be "no problem", an easy switch. I left for a bit giving her enough time to switch my cars. I came back, 5 min later to see her washing the new car I chose in the back garage area. Omg, I felt horrible! I had no idea I was asking of her to do so much more work. I thought it was going to be as easy as a quick key swap. It was too late to tell her never mind about my indecisiveness, she and a cleaning attendant was mid way cleaning my new car choice. They both were wearing masks and were cleaning vigorously. I went back inside and comfortably waited in the cold blowing air conditioned waiting room(it was hot as hell outside). Stephanie entered, handed me the disinfected keys, gave me a new contract to finalize the car switch and sent me on my way with that same friendliness that greeted me when I 1st arrived 30 min prior. Today is now January 5th, 2022 and I see a charge of $450 in my bank account from Budget/Avis, their yelp is Avis but all of my confirmations are from BUDGET....They also refunded my deposit after I returned the vehicle in NOVEMBER! YES, they returned it. and Now almost 2 months later there is a random charge on my card for $450! I called and they told me it was for a smoke/odor smell, mind you I made sure I cleared out the entire vehicle and there was also no smoke smell at all, I DO NOT SMOKE. BEWARE OF THIS SHAMELESS COMPANY, I have been hung up on twice today when trying to speak to a manager. This place is called Budget/Avis rental car company. They have the same parent company. I called Budget customer service and reserved a car over the phone. The cheapest I found especially on a Sunday morning where it seemed like everybody else closes at 1pm. This was located at the mall right next to Sears auto repair and it was open until 3pm that day. I reserved a car for 8 days and it was a lot cheaper than 3 day rental. I was especially glad because it gave me time to think whether to replace my current car or fix it. Plus time to plan the logistics of how I was going to fix it. Some friends offered their extra car for me to use but I'd rather not inconvenience other people. It turned out to be a very good decision plus I didn't have to rush, and work and life flow wasn't affected very much. I got a 2017 Ford Fiesta with unlimited miles and the car was a gas saver. It felt weird getting into the car at first because I wasn't used to driving a very small car plus it didn't have a navigation. I had to rely on my phone to get to some places. But the rental car didn't break the bank. I paid $213. Plus change for 8 days. The customer service agent on the phone was very nice and the lady with the South African accent ( I forgot her name) from the location was also excellent. They took the time to explain everything I have to know. The car had a full tank of gas and I returned it the same way. I took off one star because they didn't have an after hour drop off. When I called customer service they gave me an option to return the car to Oakland airport. The airport is the last place I want to be in just to return a car plus there's also charges if you want to return a car to a different location. Friendly and honest service, economical car, convenient location, and cheaper than most rent. See if you can beat that combination elsewhere. read more

Totally disappointed with this place! We rented a car at Christmas time. For starters the car was not the one I asked for; and it had soil stains, coupled with carpet disparities in the passenger front and in the rear carpets. Plus the seats were stained as well. To top it off, after having the car for a week, the service light came on as did the oil change. The tires were not the best either however because we were staying local we figured if something should happen we would be okay. Fast forward 3 weeks and I get a letter saying there was a smoke odor and excessive spoilage in the car. I was totally besides myself! (1) I don't smoke as I have a condition which this would be not in my best interest; and (2) excessive spoilage was already visible. When I walked back in the office after seeing the car, she advised "they" were aware. Really.. aware because they already knew they were going to hit me with a cleaning fee? Unbelievable. Called the customer service number on the paper; they offered to take half off the cost and I declined. I'm not paying for a used car that is likely 3-4 years old and not in mint condition as a rental. I called Stephanie at Avis Concord and she is staying true to the to the scheme that we bought the car back in this condition! I told her the excessive spoilage can't be removed with a vacuum clearly it has aged prior to us renting the car. I don't smoke nor does my partner so where in the heck did the smoke come from? I get a huge discount for using Avis but please believe this will be the LAST TIME I EVER rent from them. This is absolutely ridiculous and I will continue to refuse paying $450 for someone else's filthiness. I wish I had read the reviews right before renting a car from this location. Clearly I am not the only one who has experienced this. It appears between November and January, my review is consistent with the others. A rip off! I'm going to file a complaint with the California Department of Consumer Affairs and snap the additional complaints that align with my own. FAST check in, good customer service, and reasonable prices! Avis/Budget Rental is my favorite car rental agency in the Concord area. I often rent cars when I take long road trips because Costco offers such great discounts with Avis/Budget that it's worth renting a car rather than putting the miles on my personal vehicle. I have rented cars at other surrounding car rental agencies and the service was so slow! I've never had slow service at Avis/Budget. For fun, I timed one of my rental check ins and it took 5 minutes for the representative to take my information down, review the paperwork and have me on my way. The two reps that often help me are Karen and Liz, both of who are no longer with the company - boo! I just hope that my future rental check in times will continue to be reasonable and that the customer service remains pleasant despite losing Karen and Liz. I did not give them 5 stars because their fleet isn't as wide a range as other car rental agencies, however, you can't beat a $27/day rental for a small car. If you're going to rent a car, I would choose Avis/Budget over the competitors in the area. read more

Not even worth one star. Actually rented through Budget but was directed to this location to pick up the car. Took about five minutes to get the manager to answer the bell at the front desk. She looked like we caught her sleeping, or she was stoned. She said since it was past my reservation time (approx 1 hour), the car I reserved was no longer available, and they didn't have anything else to offer me. At no point during the reservation process was I told I had to pick up the car exactly at the stated time. I've rented cars before and have never heard of this requirement. Budget has lost my business. Went down the street to Enterprise and they were able to fulfill my request at a price less than what I was quoted by Budget. Wish I can give them a negative five stars. They are total scam and horrible with customer service. We rented a Ford Escape for two days for our family camping trip. The woman at the counter couldn't have been more unpleasant. When our USAA membership discount and the coverage wasn't what we thought it was, the clerk yelled at us and she raised her voice so much, I was ready to tell her to shut up, but calmed down...it was just the beginning of our vacation after all. Relax...red sun...don't bitch slap her... Then onto the fuel tank: she said the tank was full, but it wasn't. It was below full. Change the oil light was on, obviously the car needed some maintenance and yet they were renting it out. The car was uncomfortable and drove like it went through some water damage but I guess that's not Avis' concern. When we returned the car we made sure we filled up the gas to just a bit below the full amount because we didn't want them to benefit even half a gallon. We're not that petty usually, but their horrible service made us act like that...boo!!! (T_T) That's not all. When we got back, they made their customers write down the odometer...WTF. No other rental place I used ever made their customers do all that work. It's not like they were cheaper than other places either. Highly recommend going to Enterprise on Monument BLVD instead. They are about the same price or $5-10 more expensive than Avis, but they'll treat you like you're the best person in the world. I reserved a midsize SUV for a day via online. Upon arrival the day of, I was greeted by Stephanie (sp?). I asked if I could switch from the current reservation to a Mazda SUV That was a newer model. She was kind and accommodating. Her team was able to wash the vehicle/clean it, and was parked in the driveway ready for me to go in 20minutes. Upon returning the vehicle, I was caught in traffic and asked if she (Stephanie) was willing to wait til 530pm (*30 minutes past closing time*). She agreed. But we all know how Bay Area traffic was worsened - especially coming from the city. I got to the car rental by 545pm- and Stephanie was still waiting. They charged me $475 for some insurance for 5 days because I asked for basic insurance which they took it upon themselves and put the highest insurance ($53 a day) instead and all I was told after was well you signed the contract. I didn't want to leave a negative review but for this reason and this reason only please BEWARE!!! upon returning any vehicle that you rent from this location PLEASE TAKE PICTURES!!!!! PLEASE TAKE PICTURES!!! That way you will have your own personal evidence.
