I haven't ever had an issue with Avis until today. Called Avis to extend the rental I had for 1 additional day and was given a total price (taxes and fees) by the agent with the additional day. At drop-off, I was charged $40 more than the amount given. This is not acceptable to me. I probably won't return to Avis and will take my business back to Enterprise. read more

Beware of Avis. I rented a vehicle in SC Mrtyle Beach Airport location Thur Priceline. The vehicle was paid in advance. I paid to get the vehicle upgraded upon arrival. No problem. I filled the vehicle up and dropped the vehicle off. I watch the guy the miles and gas gauges. I asked was everything okay. He said yes. I asked if I needed to do anything else he said no and I was fine to leave. I exit the parking lot and went across the street to check in for my flight. A few weeks later, I received my credit card bill with charges of over $100 from Avis. I review the statement, I was charged for a extra day, full tank of gas and two other fees. I was outraged that Avis would be so dishonest to their customers. I tried to reach them the line was always busy. I will never do business with Avis again. read more

This is the Avis Austin Airport location: The people that work their are all very nice, and the vehicles i've rented from them are all in tip top shape. Renting is easy & returning is even easier. 'JUAN' one the the managers is such a nice kind, very polite & accommodating gentleman. Another gentleman there names Robert is also very nice. Like I mentioned before everyone there is so polite, even one of the gals at the gate, but unfortunately I don't remember everyone's name. Thanks again!!! LORUSSO read more

If I could give less stars I would, terrible customer service. Understaffed, waited almost two hours for a vehicle, then was finally told a vehicle and given a lot number, only to find out it was the wrong vehicle. There was no one to assist us so we waited in the parking lot for another hour for help. Turns out someone else took our car and they put a different one in the spot we were directed to. Unsatisfactory service. Will never rent through Avis again. read more

Avis has this scam going where they don't officially open until 6a so you can't make a 5a reservation. When you show up at 520 they'll be working the counter. They won't let you pick up at the rate you reserved until 6...but if you'll pay "rack price" you can get your car right away. It's outrageous! I waited the 40 minutes to save 30/day. read more

If I could I would not give any stars. What is the purpose of making a reservation for a car and when you arrive they only have 12 passengers vans. There were cars in the lot but the manager would not release them at midnight because they were Uber cars. The attendant stated that we could take a large vehicle and come back in the morning to exchange. The last place I wanted to return to was this place. But I did trade in my vehicle at another Avis establishment. I do not recommend this Avis location. read more

I'd give you no stars! Thieves! I misplaced my wallet and I made a report with in hours of finding it misplaced! I called and called I finally got a human.. they gave me a "managers" number. Victoria . She told me She was too busy to go check the car but would call me if she found something or checked the car.. no call back. I got my ass up at the crack of dawn and showed up 30 minutes before Avis opened.. just to wait another hour in line. I was told my wallet was there.. and the manager found my wallet and put it into the safe.. however all the contents were gone. My business credit cards. My bank card. Personal info. Sentimental rings. Cash. All gone. I'm filing a police report. Fuck you guys. Worst fucking people ever. Not how you want to start moving across the country. read more

I wish I could give a worse rating. This has to be the worst experience that I can imagine, but I give them 5 stars for consistency. They absolutely suck on a regular basis. You have to TRY HARDER to be this terrible. Website is awful. Customer service is inept. Reservations are constantly getting confused. And help? Well, the Help just makes it worse. It's funny that I try harder to give them money and they manage to try harder to screw it up. I wish this was a one time incident, but it's the only constant Avis manages to make repeatable. So, buyer beware! Renting a car on their user-UNFRIENDLY website will challenge you in ways you didn't think possible. And their inability to correct their issues is atrocious and will make you want to walk rather than do business with such a crap organization. Congratulations, Avis. You got me again. read more

Shout out to Abigail for making a way out of no way!!! Great service and resourceful- I'll be back because of service like hers!!!

Poor service; don't treat customer respectfully and also did not put any effort in looking for special car request. I reserved a compact car (and I fall under avis preferred category- not sure what does that mean though). When I went there- the main airport pick up counter representative asked me to choose between two vans ( Chrysler/Dodge). When I told the avis representative that I do not want to drive this big he made an excuse that this is only option they have. I was stuck at airport so ended up going to pick up area. Surprisingly there were a lot of sedan available in avis pick up area. After seeing the van size(too too big) I was sure either I am picking up a small car( relatively) or cancelling this reservation. So when I went to another counter (close to pickup area) to discuss this she had they have couple of sedan option that I can choose- I was shocked how come so many sedan became available within a minute or the main counter person wasn't looking into system. I would really appreciate if they take the request more seriously- specially the one booked through corporate account- do not want to cancel last moment and increase cost. read more

I rented a car through Budget, but was routed to Avis because the Budget counter was closed (OK). There was one person, Timothy, working at the Avis counter. He was friendly but maybe too chatty-- talked a lot about his personal life while the line piled up behind me. That, however, I could have gotten past. I could even look past the constant up-selling ("Want to upgrade to a sports car since you've only got it for a few days!?") but he kept adding things to my bill without telling me it was an optional charge. I caught the optional insurance he added (which he called the "State Minimum" -- making it sound required!) but he also prepaid the gas, without telling me. When I asked about it on the bill, and said I'd rather just bring the car back full, he said that when I showed my gas receipt to the return people they would "scan it" and give me $48 back. I was returning the car to a different location and, ironically, was in a hurry to get it there on time and forgot to fill it up. However, Timothy had also told me that if I drove less than 75 miles I would only be charged $16 flat fee. When I got there, the guy who was accepting the return (who was wonderful, by the way) looked at my bill, saw that I had prepaid for gas, and asked why, since I'd only driven 70 miles. I told him that I was told he could take that cost off of my bill if I brought it back full. He said that he could, but only the person who sold me the rental initially could approve taking that charge off it, since the people at the airport make commission off of the prepaid gas! It didn't matter in the end, since I had driven fewer than 75 miles, but I really don't appreciate not being given all of the options at the outset, and having charges added to my bill with no say. I know that Timothy was making minimum wage and needs commissions to get by, but I think Avis would get further without this sketchy dealing. I, for one, will not be renting from them again. read more

I rent a car from Avis at 1 Government Center Plaza in Boston, MA. I was given an older car with 65K mileage on it and was told that there was a half tank of gas. I drove off and found that there was less than half tank of gas so I called customer service to make a note on it. After driving for less than 25 miles, the tire gauge sign showed up on the monitor and all 4 tires had 4 different tire pressures, 34 and 36 on the 2 front tries and 39 and 28 on the 2 back tires. This indicated to me that this car, a Ford Edge, had not gone through a checking process or a routine maintenance before it was released to a customer. I didn't mind renting an older car as long as it was well maintained. Never rent a car from this location because they lied to you about the gas level and they failed to check my vehicles before releasing it to me. The people who worked at this location was sloppy and careless. read more

After taking the 20 minute shuttle from south terminal to the main terminal, we just wanted to get our car and be on our way. Well, of course our original booking for a Ford Escape wasn't available so we were given the ultimatum...down grade for same price to a smaller vehicle or upgrade for the same price to a luxury sedan. Of course we took the ladder and rolled around in a Jaguar XF at what we assumed was the same cost based off the agreement with the person working counter at time of pick up. It wasn't until we returned the car that we were informed the upgrade did actually come with an extra cost! After arguing with the return counter for a bit we left unsuccessful and bit the bullet on the extra charge. Poor communication between the pick up/ drop off desks and an apparent gap in process when a preferred car isn't available. Boo! read more

I had a really bad experience at the Austin (Texas) Airport Avis, but only because of the representative who helped me pick up the vehicle. Her name was Carmen, and she encouraged me to upgrade my vehicle because "it's free with your corporate agreement." She told me I could upgrade from a 4-door intermediate sedan to an SUV so I could fit more people in my large group. She went back to "speak with her manager" and returned to confirm that my employer's corporate agreement with Avis would allow me to upgrade my vehicle at no additional cost to me. I hesitated when I saw $336 on my screen instead of $136, but she reassured me, "Oh that's just the $200 hold, you'll get that back when you return the vehicle." This $200 hold business is legit, I Googled it and immediately felt better because it was confirmed online that Avis holds $200 until you return the vehicle when you pay with a credit card. I did not get that $200 back. Instead, I was charged $313 and had a mini panic attack. I called Avis Customer Service and after a while on the phone I was able to correct the mistake. I feel like Carmen has pulled this scam before and will pull it again. She was very cool and collected answering all of my questions and addressing my hesitation when I saw the much larger dollar amount. I am still in disbelief that an Avis representative literally tried to scam me out $175. I use Avis all the time, but now I'll think twice before trusting this company. I'm very grateful that Customer Service was able to help me resolve the issue. read more

All I have to say about how horrible this company is that when I called to ask for my rental vehicle (because I wasn't able to get it from the counter), they told me that just because I booked online doesn't mean that I am guaranteed a rental car. READ YOUR CONTRACT! I rent many days a year from various agencies (both in Austin and around the country). This is the first time we have had someone add on the insurance added even though we declined. I rarely check receipts, but with I would have on this one since they now are saying they won't remove the ~$450 added charge. We absolutely will not be renting from Avis ever again. The saddest part is that my company pays for me to be part of their "Chairman's Club" program. The 1st-star is for Jason, disliked his service. The 2nd-star is for everyone else whom I encountered and the condition of the car, was pleased with. On June 7th, around 11pm, I found my way to the Avis counter. I was there as a new employee for a training in Austin. Jason knew this. Also, I was the last person of my company to pick up a car. I handed Jason my reservation # and other paperwork, and he proceeded to assign me a rental car. I had NO idea that it was luxury! AND, I did not book my rental reservation, so I did not even know what kind of vehicle to expect. My new Avis paperwork, that Jason gave me, said "luxury," which was deceptive, because Jason NEVER told me that he was giving me this or charging me for this. (My mistake was not reading the paperwork and asking questions. But I know enough about customer service that he should have told me that he was upgrading me and not just expected me to discover this in the plethora of words on the agreement page.) BUT, if they were out of economy or mid-size vehicles, he should NOT have charged me for an upgrade! I totally believe that Jason was being deceptive, and taking advantage of my being inexperience with company rentals and being a weary traveler. (I had arrived 1 hour late because of a flight delay.) Totally displeased. :-( Next time I rent for work, I luckily now have the power to make my own reservation, and I will opt for Budget over Avis... ...and the online customer service is a joke. Taking no ownership or apology for poor service. read more

I travel a decent amount for work and I have always found AVIS to be just fine, but this last trip I took really made me think otherwise. I had pre-paid for a car and when I arrived I did the usual talk with the agent and declined all coverage since that sort of thing is covered by my company/credit card. After returning the car I was looking at my bill for expense purposes and I realized that they had added on a charge that almost doubled my bill, most of which was attributed to fees for insurance which I had verbally declined. I called them and asked what had happened and asked them to set things right and I was told that they would not do that since the electronic statement that they rush you through included that charge. Having explained that I rent cars a decent amount from them and I always decline coverage they still wouldn't do anything. Finally, I told them I'd really appreciate it if they removed the charge and that this incident had left a rather bad taste in my mouth since I felt like I'd been deceived and I'd have to reconsider my rental car options in the future if no action was taken. Still they wouldn't budge. It blows my mind that a company like AVIS would rather be stubborn and not fix an error than lose a loyal customer over something that amounts to a drop in the bucket for them. Needless to say I will not, nor will other colleagues of mine, be using AVIS again. read more

I can't believe this myself. Giving a car rental place 5 stars. Especially with how long we waited in two lines. One for paperwork the other to get the car but the staff was awesome and professional. We arrived in Austin after midnight. Stood in line to pickup our reserved car and as we are waiting there we're so many people who either reserved a car from a different company that had already closed or hadn't reserved anything and for whatever reason was expecting cars to be waiting for them. They complained from the middle of the line loudly to anyone who could hear and to the Avis employee who just kept going thru the line to help customers. More patience then me that's for sure. How is it his fault you are self important. Anyway got the paperwork done and went to get car only to see another long line. Attendant announced they were trying to get cars up from the reserve lot for everyone so please be patient. Then they just started handing out any car no matter what price you paid. Teslas, suburbans, vans trucks. You name it. We got a Lexus and off we went. Staff was great despite the stressful situation. Avis should have more employees but it was midnight. Thank you to all staff. Car was great. read more

If I could leave 0 stars I would. I went on vacation to Texas with my children and had to wait over an hour in line to get the rent a car. Once we finally got to the car the key fob that we were given had a missing button, but my children and I were already frustrated and I refused to stand in line another minute. On April 8 I contacted the road side assistance number due to the key fob being dead and I was unable to start the car. The first time I called I was disconnected. When I called back again at 10:37 pm I explained to the woman that I was in need of assistance with getting a new key fob or another vehicle because the car would not stop and it was a push to start. The woman told me to try a few different things to see if the car would pick up the fob and it did not work. I explained to the woman that my family had to leave on April 9 by 7 am to get to the airport in time for our flight. The woman told me to call the roadside assistance number at 5:00 am and they would be able to tow the car and get us to the airport. I informed the woman that 6 of us were traveling and I was informed that we would get a shuttle to the airport big enough to fit everyone. I called at 5:00 am and was on the phone for almost a half hour before I was informed that dispatch has been notified and there would be a 45-90 minute wait. The woman stated that I would receive a text message informing me of who would be picking us up as well as when the tow truck would arrive. By 7:30am I had not received a text message, so I called once again and was transferred to dispatch were I stood on hold for 45 minutes and did not receive a response. After calling multiple number we finally got a hold of someone and informed them that we have missed our flight due to their empty promises. Around 8:30 am we received a text message stated that a tow truck was on its way. We were suppose to checkout out of our hotel room at 11:00 am. At 11:35 the tow truck still had not arrived and was informed by the hotel we were staying at the we had to be out of the room by noon. My family and I were forced to sit outside for three hours with 3 young children. When the tow truck finally arrived we were informed that he could not transport anyone because he was only told to tow the car and not drop us off to get a new vehicle. We contacted an Avis that was 30 minutes away and they agreed to get us into a new vehicle if the tow truck would drop us off. Do to the negligence of Avis we had to pay $374.75 for our flights to be changed as well as pay $252.97 to stay at another hotel. Avis also charged us $269.65 for another day with the vehicle and did not inform us that we would be charged. We were not aware of a new charge until we got home and checked our card statement. I WOULD NOT RECOMMEND RENTING A CAR FOR AVIS. The customer service is terrible and the staff did nothing to assist us. We were transferred multiple times and were forced to wait over 45 minutes every time until we were able to talk to someone. Avis has done nothing to rectify the situation. read more
