They do not help the customer. In this date and time people expect quality for the services they paid and avis is not providing good costumer service. I have had to jump thru hoops thanks to their mistake but they would not help. On top Of that the car they gave me had no a/c. I am here for work and did not have a day off until today. Also tried to get help and at Kyle, TX location and were unwilling to help too. Nobody takes responsibilities for mistakes. They blame the other locations, yet they are the same company. Very dissapointed. Never renting from them again. read more

I tried to use a different car rental place but I had a bad experience. So I went over to Avis is were Cindy greeted me with a smile and was able to help me and answer all of my questions. Thank you so much for your help today Cindy. Avis you guys are very lucky to have such a great employee like Cindy!! read more

If you are an AVIS preferred customer, go directly to the 3rd floor to get your car. Skip the line at AVIS departure counter. Pick up was simple and quick but I lost my way trying to find the exit ramp. Return was easy with drop off a the 3rd floor and walk across the walk way to the departure hall. read more

Avis - Avis preferred - Car Rental Near Me - Austin, Texas

Pros: friendly and professional service rep Cons: On hold 18 minutes yes EIGHTEEN bc apparently only one person works the counter at the airport. Communication- was told my total was $390(Austin), $437(via phone), $565(@drop off) all because it was entered incorrectly. It's already unacceptable to leave a customer on hold for 18 minutes but imagine how much more stress this adds when your renting because you were rear ended. Luckily after explaining to the rep during drop off she caught the mistake!!! read more

I loved my Chevy Cruz. The Bluetooth phone navigation worked great. I called ahead time to see if I could return early. The agent said yes and Avis would prorate my bill. Make sure not to let them close out your bill if you will end up paying less. I had to walk over to the counter and plead my case. After 20 minutes on the phone with his manager, Ryan was able to reduce my final bill by a half a day. read more

No complaints here, really. I am not an Avis renter. They got me out quickly, of course the counter was dead when I got there. I was checked in quickly and on my way. read more

Confirmation #455703986 Wanted to return the car early, so tried to call the location. I can't recall how many times I had to select an option from the phone to get through to an operator, but it was way too many. When the call was picked up no one answered, that is the call was answered but whoever picked up did not want to speak! I eventually had to call their central reservation people and was told that returning the car early would not be possible! Don't even think about renting from these charlatans, they are in it to rip you off. read more

They wanted to screw me with crazy rates. So I rented a car from Austin Airport and realized that my flight out of TX was in San Antonio. I called up Avis Rent a Car in the Austin Airport and they wanted to charge me double. They said there's no drop off fee but they will give me a different rate code. Double the price??? I declined and called the Avis Reservation 1-800 number. They made the changes to my drop off location with the same rate code. The new estimated cost was only 3USD higher. So yes, do not deal with the staff from the Austin Airport. Call the 1-800 number instead or do your reservations online. I am an Avis Preferred Member. read more

Worst rental ever. No gas dirty car seats, lack of staff knowledge and the rental assistance person lied about the car seats, telling that there was a refund of $140 while accepting terms at the counter with 2 young children. The reservation was for $450. Then I was billed $615. I am disputing with AMEX. And have asked a manager to call regarding the staff misleading statements. read more

AWFUL! What is it with this airport and rental cars? First visit used Thrifty and they nickel and dimed us until the actual cost was double what we were quoted. Figured Avis would be a better bet even if the initial quote was higher. When I arrived, I stood in line for AN HOUR AND FIVE MINUTES only to be told that they did not have a car for my prepaid reservation. I could, however, take a BMW for about three times the rate I ALREADY PAID FOR!!! Strange, but they ultimately did find a larger car than what I ALREADY PAID FOR and gave it to me for nothing extra. Then they couldn't figure out how to get cars out of the gate to leave. Completely disorganized and clueless. I was an hour and half late for an appt because of the nightmare they caused. I would have gone to another rental company if I could have. Even if I had not prepaid the reservation, I would have been charged for not cancelling prior to 24 hours. They need to get it together and stop shafting their customers or they won't have any left. read more

Slowest service I have ever experienced from a rental company. And I rent several times a month.

First , Don't rent from them !! Avis Rented a Kia car to us ( family of 5) last night knowing that it has an engine over heated problem ( they talked about a problem like that between themselves , I didn't realize it was our car) , drove on highway with overheated engine problem , called them immediately, they didn't have any solution . Went the next day to exchange , and they said this is all they have now , nothing else , and I asked them if they knew about the problem , and they said yes. This is outrageous. Don't rent from them !!! read more

Service sucked, even for "preferred members." I rented two car seats and not only were they expensive ($75 each!) but they were really old (didn't even look safe) and really dirty - the infant one literally made my baby's clothes dirty. Do not rent car seats from them! I had questions about the bill later, called their Customer Service, and the guy couldn't even properly explain the bill/ breakdown of charges to me. No stars. ZERO! Just tried to rent a car with a coupon that Avis provided after renting me a dud on my last rental. SUV for moving whose back hatch wouldn't open. $40 for my trouble was all they would offer and I moved along bc I didn't want to create drama. Now, I go to use the coupon to reserve a car and get the Pay Later cost, only for that cost to go up $100 from the Reserve Now screen to the Confirmation email. When I call to ask why the rep tells me "Rates change constantly. If you wait to click Reserve, that rate can change". When I tell her I was only clicking from Pay Later to then Reserve now and that I wanted to talk to someone else, she says "Ma'am, don't hang up, don't hang up" and SHE hangs up on me. No doubt trying to hide the fact that that was her plan all along. She was also very unprofessional, snapping gum and coughing on the phone. Enterprise here I come! Avis you can keep my $40 bc its not near enough for me to EVER do business with you again! read more

Listen. Before you even dare think about renting from this company, just consider walking everywhere. They were horrible. I reserved a car for 3 days and after all the extra bulls**t they tag on you including their 15% tax my rental came out $120 more than I was originally quoted. THEN... they told me to bring the car back on full as I picked it up which is totally fine. I returned the car on full and they still charged me $44 for gas!!! The way you return the car makes you feel completely uneasy because you just leave the car in a parking garage with the keys in it and you're expected to just trust you won't get charged for anything because literally nobody goes over anything with you when you return the car, not to mention The car was absolutely FILTHY inside. There was old food under the seats, we found old soda bottle caps all over. I have NEVER had this problem with Enterprise. I will never deal with Avis again. First and very last time. read more

I rented cars from Avis on two trips to Austin, one in November 2016, the other in December 2016. On both trips, I picked up the car Tuesday afternoon and dropped it off Friday afternoon. Pickup was easy - using Avis Preferred - and drop-off was easy ... but on both trips, I was initially over-charged for a rental period that did not reflect the actual drop-off date. The first car was not well cleaned (3 half-empty water & soda bottles, and had dirt or film on the interior of the windshield); the second car was mostly well cleaned, but again had a windshield with interior dirt/film. I will not use Avis in Austin - and perhaps anywhere - again. During the first trip, I one of the men with the fluorescent vests who were moving cars around whether I needed to check-in. He said no. I verified this with a man sitting in the booth (who was helping another customer). So I left the car rental area and proceeded to my gate. The following week, I received an email receipt for over $500 (the quoted price was $178), with a rental period that extended until Monday morning. When I called, the customer service representative said they would have to investigate, and the investigation would take up to 10 business days. I never received any notification about the investigation, so I called back after two weeks. The investigation did not change the status of my bill (i.e., I was still being billed for Friday thru Monday, plus fees for late return), but the customer service representative I spoke with was able to adjust the bill to the original quoted price. During the second trip, I again used Avis - because they were 10% cheaper than the alternatives, and I thought maybe the first experience was a fluke - and I followed the same pattern (including verification with on-site people at drop-off). This time, I checked online the day after my return, and it did not show that the car had been checked in. I called, and was told it can take up to 48 hours for the check-in to show up online. Monday morning, a receipt showing another late return was generated. This time, fortunately, a corrected receipt showing the actual check-in (Friday) was created before I had a chance to call back. read more

We rented a car from Avis at ABIA last Thursday. We declined the fuel option and agreed to return the car with a full tank. We topped off the tank less than 30 minutes before returning it, Monday night! I parked the car, asked the attendant if we needed to do anything else, and he said no. He scanned the windshield and we left. Fast forward to Wednesday. When I got my final invoice, I was charged a fuel service charge of $67.93 and the final invoice shows the tank was half full! This is BS! I have disputed this charge with AVIS and have submitted a copy of my bank statement showing the gas purchase. Foolishly, we did not get an actual receipt at the gas station, as we did not think we would need one! This was my first time renting from AVIS and if this matter does not get resolved, it will be my LAST! read more

Make sure to INSIST on NOT PAYING FOR A FULL TANK OF GAS. They will try and make you think it is not an option, but it is and they will make it as difficult as possible to get a refund! KEEP YOUR RECEIPT FROM THE GAS STATION! Make sure to GET A RETURN RECIEPT EVEN IF NOBODY IS AT THE DROP OFF AREA!! GO AND GET SOME FORM OF PROOF OF THE DATE AND TIME AT THE FRONT DESK!! AND DON'T LEAVE WITHOUT IT! The rate was the cheapest for Labor Day Weekend, but now they refuse to refund me a $91 charge to my credit card + a $35 charge for gas. When I picked up the car, Janice at the front desk said I couldn't opt out of paying for a full tank of gas ahead of time. She told me I had to come to the front when I returned the car to get a refund. They claim I dropped off the car at 4:00am! When I arrived at the drop of zone at 11:00pm, there was a small dry erase board with instructions on how to fill out your pamphlet and leave it inside the car. I still went inside to talk to the person at the front desk because I thought that was how I get a refund for the gas. But he just told me exactly what was written on the dry erase board at the drop off area. He said when the people got back, they would scan the pamphlet and I'd get my refund of the gas and that's it. So I walked all the way back, filled out the pamphlet and took a picture just for my safety. My guess is they probably do this to everyone dropping off the car late at night in order to get a couple extra dollars for the ones that won't fight the charges. Next time I will make sure to take a picture with the employee in the front, timestamp it and post it on their damn twitter. read more

Never, ever, again will I use Avis. I had made a car reservation for today. When I got to the Avis desk, they told me they had no cars for me. (What is the purpose of a reservation?). They offered a minivan at no additional charge. It was just me and I didn't want nor did I reserve a minivan. They then offered me other cars for an additional charge. I see this as bait and switch to increase earnings. Let's see what the FTC thinks. Again, what's the purpose of a reservation at Avis? read more

I specifically told the clerk, Jason, that I did not want the optional loss damage waiver and he confirmed that I declined it, yet on my final receipt it showed that I accepted it. The total charge was twice what I paid to rent the car. This was a "sign-here" scam. When I called Avis the operator was very rude and kept repeating "Our customers are responsible for reading the contract", despite the fact that I was just told to "sign on the line" electronically and the total charges and fees were never shown until after the fact. I told him over and over again that I did not agree to this, but he said that if I tried to dispute through my credit card Avis would take me to collections. I will never rent from Avis again read more

So Avis Car Rental will nickel and dime you. I got a rental car in Austin Tx at the Airport on 1/18/2017. I payed with a Debit card, since I operate with cash either I have it or I don't. Lady at the counter who was to help me get the car was rude at 1 am after my flight, I should have known it would go this way. I had a lovely trip as usual, then on 1/22/2017 I went to drop off the car and they told me I had to wait at the counter inside to get the gas charge taken off. Who automatically charges gas? So, I am almost late for the flight waiting in line to get the gas charge of $29.11 taken off. The sweet young girl obviously didn't know what she was doing asking for help from co-workers. So they decide to charge me the $29.11 for gas. I try to clear it up, but because I pay cash for everything including the gas they tell me they can't help me. Then, I get hit with a toll charge of $21.17 a few weeks later? The other companies take care of such things. So AVIS scored and earned $50 by nickel and dime schemes. They are wonderful scam artists. Budget, Hertz, and Dollar are the way to go they weren't crooks to me! : ) Cheers, PHD candidate Mrs. Swain read more

I tried to rent a car from Avis at this location the other day. My rental was scheduled at least a week in advanced. Everything was going well at the desk the staff was friendly and helpful, but when I went to pick up my car there was nothing in parking space for me. I had to walk around with all of my luggage and ask multiple people where my rental was (on top of that it was raining - not their fault though!) Finally, someone gave me a different one, but that is not acceptable. Hopefully this was just a blip and does not normally happen. read more

Avis Mexico is a HUGE SCAM, you can call the office and run quotes online and budget. You will think you have the final price and etc BUT it doesn't matter because when you get there they make you either put $4000 deposit or PAY $100-200 extra. Where you have no choice because you are already in their country and have to oblidged or find a different method of transportation ( when you already spoke to a representative). I feel that it is their way of making more money and bully people into this. If this the case they need to make disclaimers on their website which they do not- I find this beyond unethical and a big scam. When you complain they will say well you sign the contract. WELL YES BC IM already in the other country and have no choice. Super unethical and reporting them to the BB as well as my bank. DO NOT RENT WITH THEM read more

As I write this review, my husband and I are on the road home after receiving a call that my mother in law had taken a turn for the worst and family was being called home. We had scheduled a visit with our son, his girlfriend and our grandson and just arrived in Austin last night. When booking our rental, my choice of Avis was price driven as I had never rented from the Austin airport before. The pick up process was long but the agents were nice so I wasn't to put out and we drove in to Killeen to begin our visit. After spending a fun day at the zoo in Waco with our grandson, we received the call. When then began the process of rebooking travel home. Without issue, we were able to cancel our room in Austin for Saturday night and check out of our Killeen hotel early with no issues or penalties. Working with the airlines, we decided that the next available flights were not going to meet our needs. It was decided that we would make the drive back home since neither of us were going to be settled until we were there. Our airlines cancelled our flights, refunded our money and offered their condolences. We then contacted Avis, explained our situation and asked if we could modify our reaervation to return the rental at the Atlanta airport where our car was located. After the agent gave us a rate change of approx. $200.00, I again repeated our needs and asked would this include mileage. The agent then quickly responded, "let me refigure that." He then returned with a quote of almost $1100.00! Really?? In the meantime our daughter was online exploring our options and had found us a rental at the Austin airport, returning in Atlanta with mileage for $250.00. We would have preferred not to drive from Killeen to Austin to then continue to Atlanta but Avis, your request was unreal and totally out of the market!! Needless to say, this is our one and only time that Avis will be our choice and price will not change our mind. Good customer service is worth something and evidently this is where you are cutting your budget. Thanks but NO thanks, we have learned our lesson. Good luck Avis, you are going to need it if this is your normal business practice. The 1 star rating is the best I can do at this point. Jan Sims - Bremen, GA. read more

What a nightmare. We arrived at around 1am to collect our pre-booked car. As a preferred member I expected everything to be ready and my name up on the board. Not the case. They found our reservation and offered us an "upgrade" to a "luxury vehicle". We declined the Navigator (gas considerations) and the Red Camaro (cop considerations), and took the BMW 328i. Well the car was dirty, obviously just returned. It felt like they just wanted it out of their lot. When we got in, their was an indication that the front tire was under-inflated. We circled the lot and asked the attendant about it. He said it was probably just a little flat and recommended we add air and continue on our way. I wish I had just refused because it was 1am, I was in unfamiliar city and well I shouldn't have to worry about that. We continued on our way. The car was anything but luxury. It ran ok but felt cheap, had an annoying "auto-stop / auto-start" feature that we were not informed about... Imagine the shock when the car just stopped running when we were at a stop light. The car had almost 40000 hard driven miles on it. It was rough on the road, low to the road, cramped, and just a POS (thanks Avis for saving me money when I never buy a BMW) The tire issue never improved. We were based around 120 miles from Austin and during the week, we put air in the tire 3 times. Probably should have been more. Two days before our return from Austin we called Avis and were advised to return it to the closest Avis location in Killeen. That was a whole other story. Spent the whole morning driving to 2 closed locations (found on Yelp) and finally a 45 minute drive to the new Killeen airport and we were finally in a new Nissan Altima. The journey back to Austin was smooth, comfortable and safe. Until we got to the parking lot and some attendant idiot was speeding through the garage to park returned rentals. Unlikely to rent from Avis again. read more
