After one day rental was over I retuned the car, car never got checked in by attendant. When called to see what the problem was agent told me I have to call the location to get this fixed. When calling the location I got transferred to 800 agent again and the circle went on until one agent helped me. Horrible customer service to say the least. I have been in the line waiting for my prepaid car rental from Avis and the line is moving nowhere fast. Two employees and so slow. Today I simply wanted to talk to an Avis rep to help me navigate the airport to pick up a friend who was dropping off an Avis rental. I called the customer service number. UMPTEEN menus, or so it seemed, on their phone. Finally got a rep whose phone connection could not allow him to hear me (I have no problem with my phone), so he dropped the call. If it is this difficult to ask a a question, I plan to avoid Avis for future rentals myself. read more

We went through Obits for a deal of 1/3 of what the Avis counter was going to charge. HOWEVER, the Avis company did not honor the total agreement with Orbits and it was NOT the fault of Orbits. We had a great experience with Avis and the lady who checked in our car, Paige, was extremely nice to us and gave us some extra time to go fill the car up with gas before returning it. SO ANNOYED WITH AVIS! I left a shopping bag and small cooler in the backseat of my car when i dropped it off on Saturday. When i realized my mistake I called Avis at the Austin airport. I had thrown the rental agreement in the trash so did not have the Car number when I called but I could describe the car and did know my Customer Name. The attendant could not help me since I did not have my car number. REALLY????? I dug through my trash to find the agreement. There was no shopping bag or cooler turned in to Lost and Found. The car cleaners just pitch everything left behind??? BAD CUSTOMER SERVICE AND FRUSTRATING OUTCOME. read more

Horrible Experience did a "pay now" two weeks in advance via the rental website with a special first time discount code provided by the page. Arrived at the airport the rental counter had one employee only. All the other rental counters had 10+ employees servicing the oncoming streams of people from the airport. It was taking over 30-40 minutes for each customer serviced by the single employee. When it was my turn I was told they would need to add charges to my credit card. I confronted them with my online receipt which stated I should be able to just pick up the keys at the counter when I arrived. The lone employee proceeds to double the charge on my credit card without approval from me and then proceeds to tell me they have no available cars. The next morning all of the "hold charges" from Avis were fully charged to my credit card, so I had to call my bank to dispute the charges. end of day. no rental car. double the rental fees charged to my card. awaiting a refund which now may take upwards of 15 days per charge (2x). read more

Heaven help you if you have an accident in one of their cars!!! My rent car was hit by another driver in a parking lot. Fortunately, the driver left me all their information and their insurance company took full responsibility. That was 3 months ago. Avis took zero action to follow up on the claim I filed with the other driver's insurance company and now sends me one letter a month demanding payment for the damage. My phone calls to Avis get responses like "you signed the contract, so the damage is your responsibility." I've learned my lesson and will never do business with Avis again. read more

This is the third time Avis tried to do a bait-n-switch on rental rate whe. I returned the vduicle. Original was for $290/wk - $730/wk appears on bill. They say because it wasreturned after the initial term even though I called to extend the dates. Bill reduced to $310 per week. I will contact corporate office and insist they honor the original contract rate. They tried to overbill me almost $1700! Every rental at the airport results in this scam. One Star because I have to! Terrible customer service. They have a scam going with rentalcars.com. I went on the website, saw they were offering a great deal on a Ford Escape for $31.00 a day but when you push the "get this car" button it goes to $87.00 a day. 3rd trip to Austin this year renting from enterprise and Payless, both were excellent. The Avis line was ridiculously long and then we got to wait in a second line to actually get the car. STAY AWAY saving $20 is no worth losing 1 hour of time. This is by far the worst car rental- went all the way to checkout with my ID and name in front of her and still got the wrong reservation so had to redo the entire thing over with my correct name for another 7 minutes. The FIRST car rental location to force me to get the prepaid fuel for $13 and come back with a receipt from a gas station within 5 miles to get the $13 prepaid fuel charge back. I argued with her back and forth and got no where she insisted it was the rule. Don't listen to this lie. fight back otherwise you'll be standing in that car rental line again upon the return of the car to present them with the receipt that is from 'a gas station that is within 5 miles' of the airport - another 20 minutes wasted. The guys who check your vehicle for damages will not accept the receipt they force you to stand back in the original customer service line. The lad at the desk then told me she lied and she wasn't suppose to force me to get the prepaid fuel option. read more

I reserved a car from avis. I got a great deal. I had never rented from them before so I did not know about their preferred program. About 2 months after I reserved the car, I joined their preferred program. I went to their website, looked up my reservation and tried to add my new preferred number to the reservation. easy right? WRONG!!! THE WEBSITE CHANGED MY RATE BY $200 BECAUSE i TRIED TO ADD A PREFERRED NUMBER TO AN EXISTING RESERVATION. Luckily, I noticed the rate change on the website and hit the back button before I made any changes. I called them to see if this was mistake. I mean -come on...i'm not changing the car or anything...just adding a preferred number to the reservation. I talked to a supervisor...and her answer was that when you make ANY change Avis gives you a NEW rate!!! So basically they screw you...and you're supposed to be thrilled about this and not upset at all. So i'm not adding their preferred number to my reservation\. I want to to keep my low rate thank you very much. BUT BUYER BEWARE...THEY ARE SNEAKY!!! ALSO, I was told that BUDGET does this as well. lesson learned!!! Great customer service!! I left my shoes on the car and all the staff there were very helpful to find my shoes. Great customer service.

Please watch yourself here at Avis at the Austin airport. My family recently reserved a Luxury car, a Lincoln MKZ via Priceline. I had bid for this vehicle for approximately two weeks trying to get the best deal and finally got accepted approximately $56 dollars a day. During the bid process, I received many rejected offers and with each rejected offer, Prineline offered other vehicles at a much lower price. Example would be a Chrysler 300 for approximately $24 a day. Which I did not accept as we wanted the Lincoln. Finally my bid was accepted at $56 dollars a day and I made confirmed reservations. Sidebar - the $56 a day turned out to be $87 a day with fees and taxes!!! Anyway, we arrive at Bergstrom Intl Airport and go to get our vehicle only to be told they do not have that vehicle and that they will substitute it with the Chrysler 300; WTF. I told them that is not acceptable and they stated the only other option with be to pay for an upgrade (started at $28 more a day and talked they down to $20+ additional a day) to get the size vehicle we needed. Reluctantly, I decided that we needed the space and did the upgrade. Going upstairs now to get our up-sale, I mean upgrade I notice the vehicle they assigned to us had a dent in the door. Then, I looked to the right of that vehicle, then to the left and see two, not one, yes two, Lincoln's. I went back to the office and addressed this issue. They apologized and assigned one of the two and gave me my credit for the up-charge, I mean the upgrade. They explained that those two vehicles were not in their computer. I now have returned and addressed this with Priceline. Priceline said it's their partners issue and they (Avis) will have to address. After weeks of no response, I communicated again today with Priceline and they said Avis resolved the issue and gave me a coupon for $25 off my next rental. Come on.... I asked Prineline what they can do to ensure their Clients are not taken advantage of in the future and they said that our chat conversation will be reviewed by management. I wish I could say that to my customers/clients - No I don't; what a convenient response. Words to the wise, be careful with the bait and switch and the name your price on Priceline. Sorry so long winded but this is terrible, a large company with the name Avis. wow, Wow, WOW! read more

I highly doubt that I will rent from Avis again. Within the past year I have encountered more issues than what I really should have. Granted, I do a lot of Priceline deals but it does not appear to be worth the additional savings. Let me start back in 2016 when I rented a vehicle from the Newark location. I rented a vehicle from the location and I had an early return flight back to Austin. Long story short I ended up leaving behind a pair of shoes, jeans, and I believe a shirt that I purchased while in the New Jersey area. I do take responsibility for my negligence, however, my issue comes from the lack of customer service. It is IMPOSSIBLE to reach a live representative despite the fact they have a line dedicated to "lost and found". They might as well call it lost because I assure you, you will not get you lost property. After getting over the lost property, I did a Priceline deal when I traveled to Denver approximately a month and a half ago. Upon picking up my vehicle, the lady makes small talk in hope, I guess, to divert your attention from the financial aspect of the deal--but I'm too quick for that. Nonetheless, I explained to the lady that I do NOT want to pre-pay for gas, I planned on limiting my excursions through the city because I was there on business and probably wouldn't have gone far except to eat. Something told me to take a picture of the receipt (for gas) so that I will have for my records. Maybe it was the constant pressuring of the representative trying to get an extra 40 bucks out of me. Well, it's a good thing that I did that because after my trip concluded and I got back home, I checked my credit card only to notice the additional fees tacked on. I immediately called my card company to make them aware and then I called Avis to contest the charge. This transaction went well as they did refund the difference, however, it should not have been charged in the first place. Fast forward to the last weekend in May. I secured another Priceline deal for a weekend trip to Houston. I rented the vehicle for two days 05/27-29/2017. I got back home sometime on Monday and returned the vehicle within the allotted time to avoid additional fees. Today while paying my bills, I noticed that Avis charged my card over 800.00 dollars! I am outraged at this point. I'm thinking to myself while dialing their number are they trying to say I damaged this vehicle or what?! I called only to be told, "You didn't return the vehicle until 06/04/2017." Pause...from a business standpoint, if I kept a vehicle past my reservation, which I did not, would you not call to inquire as to when I would be returning this vehicle? Secondly, the questions they ask are beyond ridiculous..."How many miles were on the car? Did you fill the gas up? What time did you drop off the vehicle?" Lady, please! I have slept since then, rented a vehicle and drove to New Orleans since the charge posted to my credit card. How am I supposed to remember that? Let me not digress, but the point is, I returned that vehicle and Avis as a company needs to have better record keeping because I can assure you that car has since then been rented out. If I do not have a resolution by Wednesday of next week, I will contact my issuing card and dispute the charge through them. Bottom line, be aware of your contract, rental dates, times you drop off your rented vehicle(s), and for added measure...retain the mileage information. You may never know when you will find yourself in such a situation. Avis I highly suggest you all reform you policies and how you run your administration. There are a lot of upset customers that you have due to your piss poor customer service all the way to your unorganized business. I think you have lost a member... read more

Long lines, waited for a half hour, while other car rental agencies were open. Need to get a better system or hire more help.

I had a little snag during the rental process because I verbally went through all the options with the attendant (and declined all the extras), but then had to go on their touch pad and initial a bunch of stuff, which I did much too quickly, and ended up AGREEING to all of the things I had just declined with the staff. I was super delayed getting into the airport and did not read the contract carefully before I left the counter. When I returned the car, I spoke with the manager and she gave me a few credits back, which I appreciated because it was my fault for not reading the contract. So, I still paid more than I expected but I was happy with the customer service from Elisabeth. I will read everything more carefully next time. read more

Rented a Mini-Van for 3 days this past weekend, Sat-Mon. When I called to verify the type of vehicle and to be sure the rear seats could be stowed in the floor I experienced a customer service nightmare. The main # does not route you to an agent at the Austin airport. 2 tries through that system to no avail. Then I got the 512 A/C direct # and NO ONE answers that #! My 4th call got a young lady on Friday who told me she would Google the Dodge Caravan or Chrysler Town & Country to see if seats folded down! I know the do! She put me on hold and then said that they did NOT appear to fold down. I asked where she got that and she said Google! This was a customer service agent. I asked if she was sure. She said no. Then she proceeded to tell me that she was sorry that I was "having a bad day!" No supervisor was accessible, she was not able to dial the airport location either, and I had made 4 calls and burned up 20 minutes to hear she Googled the info! Not to one to wallow in defeat, I called another Austin area location and the gal that answered the phone told me there are 4 types of minivans. All have rear fold-down seats and that she could email and put my request for the Dodge or Chrysler van in their system and that there were plenty on hand for the time I needed one. Night & day customer experience! I picked up a Dodge Grand Caravan on Saturday morning at the airport and behold, both sets of rear seats stowed away completely. This provided all the cargo room I needed. Loved the R/T black on black version with wide profile tires. It handled great on the highway during our trip and was well equipped. The vehicle was spotless on the outside but the interior was NOT cleaned prior to us getting it... Mainly, train your customer service staff on vehicles you rent, make access to major airport locations possible by phone, have a request for a supervisor met with action, and be sure the vehicle is fully ready to rent by your customers. There is lots of competition out there and Avis is one option guys. read more

My experience at AVIS in Austin was horrible. My wife and I flew 1700 miles to attend our son's graduation from Air Force Basic Training. We arrived just after midnight and proceeded to the Avis counter. I made the reservation online and chose Avis because they specifically stated they took credit and debit cards. I do not carry a credit card as I prefer to use money I already have. My debit card is a Visa debit and I have used it many times in place of a credit card including at car rental agencies and hotels. When I got to the counter and handed the clerk my card and ID he took about 15 seconds to tell me my card declined! I had over $2000 in the account at the time and had not had any issues using my card anywhere. He advised me I did not meet the Equifax guideline. My Equifax score is 694. 6 points from being in the GOOD range. The only reason it is not higher is that I do not have any revolving credit on it. The guideline is not set by Equifax it is set by AVIS! My wife was in tears as we had to be in San Antonio by 9 AM the following morning. The staff was rude and condescending. We spoke to Alamo but they did not have any cars remaining. Hertz bailed us out with no issues for the card and held a reasonable $400 for the car rental. HERTZ now has a customer for life and I will tell everyone I can that AVIS is a poor excuse for a rental agency. read more

Then got "Diego" who was of no help at all and left me on hold for 30 minutes till I finally hung up. My husband and I are longtime Hertz customers but since Hertz was out of cars, I decided to give Avis a try to see about renting cars from Avis as well in the future, but no: I RECEIVED VERY POOR CUSTOMER SERVICE. & WILL NEVER USE AVIS AGAIN. I had to fly from Chicago to Texas in a hurry because my 88 yr old father had a massive heart attack. Although I had planned to return to Chicago today, those plans had to be changed when my father also had a serious stroke today. I called to extend my rental and was told by first the very rude customer service rep (who kept asking for my cc # and details about an extended reservation after I had asked to speak to a supervisor) that there was no way to access a discount as I had for my initial rental and that the only way to do so was to return the car and complete a new rental. The supervisor said the same thing and sarcastically said "sorry." I paid the $100 fee for a one day extension and immediately booked a rental with Hertz. AVIS HAS LOST A POTENTIAL CUSTOMER. read more

If you go to the Avis "preferred" desk, they will not help you. Rather, they say, "go back to the airport counter, you are not a preferred customer." I have never been treated so disrespectfully by a business. I paid ridiculous "airport" fees when they deemed them mandatory, then on the bill it clearly stated it was optional. Then my car almost immediately broke down. They told me they would have a new one out to me by that night, then after numerous phone calls told me it would have to be in the morning. I didn't get a car until 1:30pm the next day. The manager when I dropped the car off at the end of my short three day trip just said there was nothing he could do. Terrible experience. Made and prepaid my reservation a couple months ago. Received an email a couple days ago confirming my reservation and details. Went to pick up our car today and guess what? No cars available but she would call us as soon as a car was available. Went to a 2nd Avis site and still, no cars. Begin to panic as we are 2 hours from our airport and have a flight to catch. Went to a competitor and was able to rent a car. Thank goodness. Call Avis and told them what happened. They say a refund is on the way. 2 minutes after hanging up I receive an email confirming the cancellation and stating since we cancelled after pick up time, no refund. Call them back again and it took another 20 minutes for them to confirm that we would get a refund. We shall see. Took me 2 hours to deal with this mess. I travel a lot and rent a lot of cars. I am also a travel agent. I will never rent from Avis again and I will deter my clients from doing so too. Oh, by the way...the rental agent that said she would call us never did. So, they must not have gotten any cars in. So much for having a reservation. Thank goodness we were proactive in finding another rental company. I was in a pinch so I did it knowing that I would reach out to their customer satisfaction department afterwards. Worst car check in process ever. I reached the airport 40 mins before departure and I had to drop of my car. However, Mr. Andy made sure I checked in last. He purposely ran through my vehicle last even through I had reached the location before another customer. I returned a KIA Optima to the Avis Rental Car Return Lot at Austin Airport on 1-22-15 at 1:35 PM. The scum bag male attendant at the return lot who work's for Avis checked our car in and didn't give a receipt even though my wife saw him print it out and put in in his back pocket. We asked the other attendant who was a female if the guy was going to give us a receipt and she shouted out to the guy if he was going give us a receipt? He came back to us and printed out a receipt, handed it to us turn and walked away then came back and jumped in the car and drove away. I had left 2 Cell Phones in the car in the coin holder by the Stick shift and he must of saw them when he got in the car to check the gas tank lever. When I realized I left my phones in the car I went to the Avis Car Booth to have the car returned so I could get my phones, at first they couldn't find the car and when they did my phones were not in the car any longer. So I know the Scum Bag Attendant stole my phones. Avis employee's where not very helpful or concerned about the theft of my cell phone's and all they would say is they would ask if anyone had them and they were not responsible for anything let in the cars when they are returned.
