    Good experience with booking the rental car online, polite staff at the counter and quick service. We got a nice 2024 Toyota Camry in great condition. Note that they charge $500 deposit if you have a local address on your ID.

    Error codes from our Fox rental car

    ***update*** To summarize my experience with Fox Rental Car- they overcharged us, treated us like dirt, and rented us a mechanically unsafe vehicle that they then charged us for. Rebecca at the counter was rude. Chris at roadside assistance was rude. I had quite a few issues when renting my car from the Fox Rent A Car at Austin international airport recently. To start, while we were at the rental counter the woman overcharged us on purpose because we told her that we were going to Colorado with the rental car and she said we would need to pay an extra 26.99 per day for the out of state package- even though I told her I had called beforehand to confirm that we could take the car to Colorado. And on the contract it even says we can take the car to Colorado- and she (Rebecca) even acknowledged while at the counter that nowhere at all does it say that we can't take the car to Colorado. Hey here she was charging us. Before we even walked up to the counter I turned to my fiance' and said she was going to be a rude woman. Next up- Our car ended up having several mechanical issues, and even though we had the roadside assistance, they threatened to charge us for the tow if "nothing was wrong with the vehicle", and they told us they wouldn't get a tow truck to us for at least 8 hours. ON TOP OF THAT, they weren't about to send us a new car either, they were going to take our car from us to take to a shop and then idk what they wanted us to do next. Have no car? On our way to our wedding. The guy who worked at roadside services seemed to enjoy inconveniencing us, no joke. And acted like he thought we were lying about the car's error codes even after we sent him screenshots. Oh! He told us to keep driving the car even with the car throwing several warning lights, and he said that cars are like computers and sometimes you just have to turn them off and turn them back on again and then they'll be fine to go even though we told him we would be traveling to a remote part of Colorado that had no service and had very dangerous road curves- there was no sympathy. In fact it only seemed to fuel his rudeness towards us as if we were lying to him- which we would not gain anything from. Very confusing. The car was sputtering several times and wouldn't go above like 20 miles an hour. Also, it kept saying that something was wrong with one of the tires air pressure, so we went ahead and inspected the tire and added air, but the error code stayed the same. And even after sending the road side assistance guy the photos, he still didn't seem to either believe us or care even though we told him we were driving 30 more hours in this car. Crazy. This is the worst customer service ever. Worst car rental company ever. I was trying to call the managers who were listed on a piece of paper at the front office at Fox rent a car (I took a photo while we were there because we rented this car and immediately had problems), and of course none of the managers answered. We ended up dropping the car for them to tow back because it was extremely unsafe to drive anymore, and we rented from another car company nearby. Who worked with us and was just absolutely fabulous. After we finally got home from our long wedding trip- I decided to call Fox rental car and try and work with them because they did not refund me, and ended up charging me $65 to refuel the broken down car that we had to leave at Firestone to get towed- and they charged me for 5 days that we did not even have the car. All I asked was they refund me everything except for the 24 hours that we were actually able to use the car. The woman at Fox refused and told me she could offer me a voucher. I asked to speak with a supervisor and she said they will be in touch with you in 24-72 hours. Crazy crazy crazy. I would never ever recommend this place to anyone. In fact, they should be reported and shut down. *****original review**** Worst car rental ever. I've been renting cars for years and this was by far the worst experience ever. Never again. Unexpected huge costs. They gave us the worst piece of junk car imaginable. No gps. Feels like the transmission is about to go out. My $350 rental went all the way up to almost $900, but we were at the counter and couldn't do anything about it because the counter lady said she couldn't refund me. Avoid. Stay away. Cheap does not mean cheaper price, just cheaper quality.

    You get what you pay for. I have to express not worth your precious time. Lesson learned.

    They have one agent working at the Austin airport and a line of 25 people! Will NEVER rent from them again!

    I was supposed to pay $150 but in the end paid over $200 cuz they tacked on all these extra fees. This is ridiculous.

    I was a bit taken aback to be asked to sign the contract when there was none to actually see, but…read morewas told, "Oh, we'll email it to you." Felt like signing a blank check, but I thought, "It'll be okay." However, it's been a complete fiasco to deal with them regarding being rear-ended, with the exception of their Roadside Assistance line; that guy was excellent. But apart from that, I've experienced a Hertz.com website that won't recognize the car contract or tags, the customer service line is "no longer in service", and the "contact us" form leads to a blank web page. Calling leads to a "call us again on a business day" message. I finally got a foreign call center who told me there was an accident report form in the glove box (nope!). I finally wrote up a statement and told the attendant when I turned in the car but got an "YOU HAVE DAMAGE! YOU MUST REPORT THIS!" email/text. Called the CS rep again and was told everything should be fine, since they have all the claim numbers, etc. But again today, I got the same email, demanding I account for the accident on your non-functional website. This is astonishingly bad customer service, which has taken hours of my time, day after day, and the fact that it's ongoing is even worse. It's clear that there are pervasive problems behind the scenes, particularly when they are things that should be easily addressed. :( Also, if you do book with them, look the car over and take photos--the seams were ripped in 3 places in the back seat. Lastly, be aware that if you use the toll roads, that will cost you big-time through Dollar, but you can set your GPS to "avoid toll roads" and it will prompt you to easily hop on and off the freeway at the appropriate times to avoid them entirely. :)

    Do not ever rent from this company which by the way is owned by Hertz. They have unbelievable…read moreamount of hidden charges and a confusing toll fee. Really really not upfront. DO NOT USE.
