Pickup and drop off we're very easy. Vehicle function was fine but underwhelming for a 2021 vehicle (Nissan Kick). Only complaint is the cleanliness of the interior. In sunlight it was easy to see many streaks and spots where a cleaning liquid was used but not wiped dry. There were also several long black hairs on the upholstery and central console. I don't expect a perfectly clean car but long (like 12" long) hair around the interior makes it seem like not a lot of cleaning occured. Will note the vehicle I rented via Dollar ended up coming from Hertz. read more

first time ever using any rental company by myself...and all i can say is i even know that this company is garbage. 1. my flight was delayed so i tried calling the number provided to me on my receipt and it is an endless line that puts you on hold and then hangs up. (i called for 3 hours straight -(12pm-3pm) 2. when i showed up i told the guy and he said "yea our phones don't work" i told him he should tell his boss and he said "yea they know and don't really care" (in my defense this was a red flag and i should've backed out here but unfortunately i was tired from traveling and just wanted to get to my hotel) 3. i drove to get food near the airport and as soon as i was done i turned my car on and all types of warnings popped up on the car (need oil change and other random alerts that came and went throughout the trip)...now i would've called the number and tried to get a different car but the number doesn't work. all in all i will never use dollar or hertz again...WHAT A TRAINWRECK read more

I was a bit taken aback to be asked to sign the contract when there was none to actually see, but was told, "Oh, we'll email it to you." Felt like signing a blank check, but I thought, "It'll be okay." However, it's been a complete fiasco to deal with them regarding being rear-ended, with the exception of their Roadside Assistance line; that guy was excellent. But apart from that, I've experienced a Hertz.com website that won't recognize the car contract or tags, the customer service line is "no longer in service", and the "contact us" form leads to a blank web page. Calling leads to a "call us again on a business day" message. I finally got a foreign call center who told me there was an accident report form in the glove box (nope!). I finally wrote up a statement and told the attendant when I turned in the car but got an "YOU HAVE DAMAGE! YOU MUST REPORT THIS!" email/text. Called the CS rep again and was told everything should be fine, since they have all the claim numbers, etc. But again today, I got the same email, demanding I account for the accident on your non-functional website. This is astonishingly bad customer service, which has taken hours of my time, day after day, and the fact that it's ongoing is even worse. It's clear that there are pervasive problems behind the scenes, particularly when they are things that should be easily addressed. :( Also, if you do book with them, look the car over and take photos--the seams were ripped in 3 places in the back seat. Lastly, be aware that if you use the toll roads, that will cost you big-time through Dollar, but you can set your GPS to "avoid toll roads" and it will prompt you to easily hop on and off the freeway at the appropriate times to avoid them entirely. :) read more

Contrary to other renters' experience, I had a good one. Yes, the line was a bit long like some of the other company because of people. But, it's also because of customers asking for more information or a better deal. That's just how it is when people get their turn. Anyway, my good experience started with with the gentleman who assisted me. He was knowledgeable and informative. He helped me make the best decision for my needs. I just wish I remember his name. The vehicle ran well. No issues. As for the rental return, it was so easy. I drove the vehicle to the area and got my receipt almost as soon as I parked. read more

TLDR: Dollar at DFW is unbelievably terrible. Don't book with them. Horrible introduction to Texas. Incredibly rude front line customer service rep & manager. Awful experience -- don't rent at Dollar or Thrifty. Go with Avis, Hertz, or Enterprise if you can. We were given a car with a change oil light & told we had to switch it. Fine. But... the next two vehicles we were given all had issues too, & we couldn't drive away in them. However, each time we didn't find out until we were in the car & trying to check out -- after all our luggage was loaded, the car seat with our 3 year old was strapped in, & grandparents had gotten in. It took us 4 cars to get one that worked! All of this was compounded, by the awful team member, & her horrendous manager, at the check out booth. The rest of the staff weren't particularly helpful either -- how can you not know that vehicle can't be used before you let the customer get in?! Do better Dollar! But I guess I shouldn't be surprised, right? You get what you pay for. read more

I recently rented from this location and specifically returned the car to the lanes for receiving a receipt. The attendant didn't acknowledge my large, conspicuous family, so I finally walked over and asked for a receipt. He said he didn't have the ability to print one, and if I wanted one I'd have to go into the office, but we were fine to leave and we would receive a receipt by email. Thinking there was no reason to go into the office, we proceeded to the gate and left to return home. Five days later we finally received a receipt filled with additional charges and indicating they we had just returned the car. We were billed a recovery fee, a late fee, charged for gas, and of course charged for extra days we didn't have the vehicle. Nearly two weeks later we received an additional bill for tolls incurred after we had returned the car. In total, we were being charged nearly $1,000 more than our original rental agreement, and we had even brought the car back a day early! It was obvious that the car had been checked back in properly, rented out to the next customer and through that process never transferred to their rental agreement, so they were free to rack up charges on our dime and may have walked away without paying anything for the rental at all. As soon as we received the first receipt with the incorrect charges we contacted Dollar through multiple channels. Three weeks later we have no corrected receipt, no total bill amount, no refund, and have started receiving additional charges. While they've acknowledged a mistake was made, nothing has been done to rectify the problem and we are stuck with an extra $1,000 on a credit card bill. We apparently are expected to to give free loan to Hertz (Dollar's parent company) while they try to figure out how to back out a fraudulent transaction. Besides acknowledging that a mistake was made, what has Dollar done to make us whole? What concession are they giving us for appropriating our money unjustifiably? The only thing we've received is hollow promises that one day we might get our money back while they continue to add fees and charges along the way. It's said to see other reviews like Craig G.'s that show that this is a pattern of behavior. Perhaps the Travis Country District Attorney's office would be interested in this pattern of fraud. read more

Austin Internatioanl Airport Dollar car rental. Waited in line for 75 minutes and told once contract was signed that they were out of cars. Finally got a vehicle after more waiting. My husband got the job of securing a rental car for us while in Austin and it will be the last time I ask him to do this! He went for the cheapest and didn't check reviews. The car we got was fine and service at the airport was good but the billing for toll roads has been a nightmare. The rental was over 2 months ago and we still keep getting random bill. Our total tolls were only around $12 and we've paid over a hundred dollars. I'm giving them a 2 instead of a 1 because we are finally going to receive a partial refund but this whole transaction has been a nightmare process. read more

Gotta give Dollar some love when they do things right. While there was only 1 person working the counter when I arrived on a Saturday night, there was only 1 or 2 people in front of me so the wait wasn't so bad. Told the guy that I didn't want to pick up the car if they gave me a tiny no-fun vehicle and I'd just Uber instead. He said he had a 2021 Hyundai Elantra and his eyes lit up when he saw that. I trusted him and it was a totally fun ride. So many cameras on the car and lane assist, as well as remote parking assistance I didn't get to use. He even let me pick the color! Great rate for a great car and really friendly service, I'd rent here again for sure. Of course if there was a long line I'm sure I wouldn't be as happy. read more

Horrible experience with Dollar at the Austin Airport. My daughter booked a car via Expedia and the car was prepaid using my Visa. When we got to the Dollar counter the line was super long. The only car rental agency with such a line. There was only one agent working the counter!! When we finally made it to the front about 1 hr later, we were told that the credit card my daughter used is not in her married name like her license. The agent said the card must match the name of the booking. That may be some policy somewhere but the car was prepaid. My daughters license and insurance were in her married name what does it matter who pays for the car. She tried to use her debit card which is in her married name, but they would take that. They would take my card - which is where the car was paid from and they also wouldn't change the reservation into my name. They couldn't cancel the reservation or credit me and basically dismissed us. We were finally able to get a copy of my daughter's marriage license and they finally proceeded to complete the pick up - almost 2 hours later. Dollar was my go-to rental agency, but I'll never use them again. The few dollars saved were not worth the hassle. read more

If I could give 0 stars I would. Probably the worst rental Vehicle Experience I have ever had. Picked up my rental for an 8 day vacation. Day one of my Vacation the change oil lights come on. On the dash. I reached out the management team on the card they gave me and nobody answered. The card said to text so I shoot over a text to the manager and he proceeded to tell me to come back and exchange the vehicle. I tell him I'm 17 hours away and he told me get an exchange at a local Hertz rental and to call hertz. I call the roadside service team and they instruct me to go to the airport closes to me to exchange the vehicle for one that has better oil life. I get to that hertz at the Airport they tell me they can't exchange that I have to go to. Dollar rental at the same airport. So I go to do the exchange and when I get there the customer service rep said I would not be able to exchange the vehicle and I needed to go to where I originally booked to get the change. I explained that I was 17 hours away and didn't feel comfortable driving it with the oil life at 4%. And she said that it was just a reminder and nothing would happen to the vehicle. She then proceeds to check the oil level on the vehicle and states the oil was in fact low and stated" I personally would buy oil at the store and fill it so I wouldn't be liable for damage to the motor" I then asked for other options as I didn't want to be liable for putting the wrong oil or not to the vehicle specs for the vehicle requirements. I then text the manager back that I have been messaging back and fourth and they stop responding. I then call the service center for a second time and the lady I spoke with that's she can give me a voucher for an oil chance at a trusted shop if there's. Then makes a comment " I can't believe they wasted your time and didn't do this from the beginning" so I get an emailed voucher and head over to their trusted Shop which was Pep boys. I get there and the tech tells me I have to leave the vehicle there for two days for an oil change. Due to "Hertz taking forever to submit fleet vehicle claims" I tell him I can not leave the vehicle there for two days as I'm on vacation for my daughters second birthday. I then proceeded to call roadside assistance for a third time to see what options I had. I get on the phone with another Dollar rep and she tries to book me up for a Firestone appointment to get an oil change but realizes they are closing soon. She then finds me another shop which was Take 5 oil change. She states they would be able to take care of me as soon as I got there and they had no wait. I get the emailed voucher and head that way as it was 37 minutes away from my location. I get there explain the situation and the manager is able to get me taken care of and states the voucher only took off a discount and didn't cover the full amount but he was going to cover the rest considering the day I had. Fast forward my vacation ends I drop the vehicle off and ask to speak to a manager to see if the amount I paid could be adjusted since I had wasted 6 hours of my first day of vacation. The Hertz employee directs me into an office to speak to a Katie or a Michael. A lady approaches me and states she is the manager but didn't announce her name. I explain the situation to her. She states I could have went with the simpler option of just going to the store to buy oil and fill it myself and I wouldn't have wasted 6 hours of my day. She then states it was my choice to go with the second option to get the oil chance instead of filling it so it was my fault the 6 hours were wasted due to there being "simpler options" I explained that I didn't feel comfortable just going to the store and buying oil to top off myself that's why I went with the oil change. She proceeds to explain that the oil change was vouchered and it was no expense to me so everything was all good. She asked what I was looking for as a resolution and I told her a discount applied to my total due to the fact my first day of vacation was ruined. I wasted 6 hours of my time, had to cancel my dinner plans with my family to do maintenance on a company's vehicle that I PAID to rent so I didn't have to deal with this. She continued to have an attitude and kept stating it could have been easier for me to just fill the vehicle with oil and went about my day. She was not willing to help and didn't understand the frustration from a customer point of view. I told her she wasn't willing to help and didn't want to waste anymore of my time and left. I would NEVER recommend renting from this place again. I rented a vehicle with intentions of picking it up and going, and it turned into a nightmare. If you're thinking about renting a vehicle from here you're better off walking. read more

Total Garbage. I wish I could give 0/5. First time rental with Dollar but will also be my last time. Booked a full size sedan at DAL airport and planned to return to AUS airport. Original plan was to fill the tank and return with full tank of gas. We were given a 2021 Camry (2.5L FWD, 15.8 gallon tank) which looks very old w/ 37000+ mileage. The minute I got on the car, I realized the tank was at least 2 gallons (about 7/8) from full. We decided not to waste time reporting the missing gas since it's probably only cost extra $5 and we don't want to waste time go back to rental office in the chilly wind (Dallas is 12F today due to extreme weather). When I brought the car at AUS airport, I have to waited in the car for 5 minutes before a guy come by to check the car. The guy was wearing earbuds and didn't say anything till he showed me a receipt with $120 extra refueling charge. I immediately realized I forgot to refill the tank which probably due to my tiredness. "But what! $10/gallon penalty with 12 gallon usage?". Since I was not doing this intentionally and I was not in a rush to catch a flight, I told the guy I can simply drive that car out and refill it. He said this rental ticket is closed and he cannot let me drive out to refill. He mentioned I chose the "full tank before return" option, the penalty will be $10/gallon. I asked him why don't let me know before closing ticket? I was just outside the car 3ft from this guy while he did all his checks. A kind reminder "You sure you want to return the car without full tank? " would avoid the penalty. With some debating, he punt the ball and ask me to talk with his manager. Two managers(Patrick and Kevin if I don't remember wrong) made same cliche and insist closed ticket cannot be changed and I have to pay $120 penalty. At this time I decided to pay my mistake, because I did forget to refill the tank. However, I told them the car was not full tank (~7/8, see my photo 1) at the beginning, and I returned with 3/8(see my photo 2), so a total use of around 1/2 tank, how could that be 12 gallon usage when Camry only has 15.8 gallon tank? I showed managers the photos I took and they began to punt the ball to DAL dollar and said I had to talk with DAL dollar on the non-full tank issue. Are't you guys under the same company. I tried to cal DAL site but the phone always on Robot and no way to find a representative. After punting the ball to DAL, those two managers left and insist on charging $120. I won't let this slide, if they play mean to me, why should I play generous to them? Photo 3 clear shows that I drove 256 miles, the statistics showed 2021 Camry has combined MPG ~31. I was drving almost all highway(from Dallas to Austin) without any traffic jam. Even I used the combined 31, 256/31=8.25 gallon. So either way, by using my photos or easy math, I would never use 12 gallon or 3/4 tank. If you ever own a Camry, you would stand my point. https://www.fuelly.com/car/toyota/camry/2021?engineconfig_id=53&bodytype_id=&submodel_id= It's already 1AM of Christmas Eve and I couldn't believe I'm wasting time here complaining about this stupid $120. That much money isn't important to me at all. I'm purely irritated by Dollar's stupid policy and managers/employee's attitude. This dispute can actually stop at any stage below: 1. Company remove ridiculous high refuel penalty or reduce the penalty. Instead of charging $10/gallon (4x of market price of Austin/TX), totally unreasonable. 2. The guy who check the car just give me a kind reminder. Don't print receipt and give me a chance to fill the tank and drive back. 3. Managers hide their arrogancy and show some generousity. 4. Managers show some responsibility and integrity and don't over count gas usages. This is the first time I'm writing a bad google review. It will also be my first ever post on yelp. Maybe Dollar doesn't care at all since they've already got 75% 1-star on yelp and 50% 1-star on Google. By any means, avoid Dollar! Same might apply to Hertz and Thrifty. read more

My grand total should've been 900 and some change but with everything else it came up to $1001 I woke up one day and was charged $4500 for a rental of 15 days never was I informed about their weekly rate which is crazy because I've rented from them before and this had never happened after calling and emailing corporate and informing them that the conversations are recorded and I was never informed and I told them I read the rental agreement, front and back and that it's not in stated in any of their paperwork, nor did I signed to agree to any of this Nor was it mentioned they decided to deduct the 3500 and of course American Express also helped the fact that bothered me was that they were acting like they were doing me the favor and giving me back the 3500 that they overcharged me for no reason I believe they did that was because American Express and I expressed that we would be taking legal action because it was not in contract be aware of this SCAM!!! read more

I booked a car in Austin to be picked up at the airport. When I arrived at the counter, I was asked to show my credit card to be used to pay. I showed my SoFi bank credit card, which is an American bank from Bancorp. The lady at the front desk immediately said that she couldn't accept a card from a bank she hadn't heard of, despite the fact it was a mastercard. She told me that there would be a possibility of fraud or the charge not going through from a bank she never heard of. She called in her manager to ask if the card could be accepted, citing that "the card looked like a card similar to a Chinese bank" and that she was not comfortable accepting it. Note that I am Asian but was born and raised in America. Her colleague even told her that she herself also had a SoFi card and that it was a verified bank. The person working on my car rental refused to accept my card and I had to use a different card. She also told me to also "not take the car out of the country", which felt like a subtle reference to the idea that I was going to drive it out of Texas within the 2 days of my rental period. I haven't ever experienced such a shocking thing over a verified bank. I am very disappointed in Dollar and will likely not return to the agency after this experience. read more

The drop off was easy thanks to the agent who was very fast. Couldn't have been easier.

Buyer beware - and trust nothing at the counter. I reserved the "Manager's Special" and despite the promise "Intermediate size or larger, guaranteed" the agent insisted on giving us Compact size. We received an SUV only after showing Dollar's documentation to confirm the guarantee. We asked to add two drivers and although Dollar asked all drivers to sign the electronic screen to confirm agreement to terms. After signing we received the receipt that showed that Dollar left one driver off the contract and charged $54 additional, hidden as "AAO" fee, without ever mentioning the added cost. Be extra careful when selecting the "Pay-at-Counter" option. Dollar is a bit sneaky here...2/3 is charged up front with 1/3 of the rental cost to be paid at the counter, with the fine print listing terms of the measurable cancellation fee. I'll tell this story of lousy service and horrible quality as quickly and simply as possible. l November 3rd at DFW I went to pick up my reserved car at Dollar Car Rental for a Thursday to Wednesday rental. It was a 2 hour wait since they had no cars. Within 20 miles of leaving, the warning light went on for low tire pressure. Filling the tire with air didn't help. On the 5th I paid $112.17 for a new tire. On the morning of the 7th, the car wouldn't start. 2 hours of over 20 phone calls resulted in the news that Dollar had NO replacement cars, so they would only come and tow the car away. Even though Dollar is owned by Hertz, there are apparently NO rental cars anywhere and tough luck for me. I was told to wait 90 minutes for the tow to arrive. 2 hours later I call to find they have no record of a tow so they have to start all over again. 3 hours later it is towed, again, leaving me with no car. I follow up with more hours of phone calls where I'm told that only the manager at the Dollar rental location can make sure I'm not billed for this rental. but none of the people at Dollar I talk to have any contact information to reach that person. At the airport on November 9th I wait in the Dollar line for half an hour to talk to the manager. I am told there is no manager there, and that they can not look up anything to do with my rental on their computers. Dollar bills me $452.17 the next day. I call to complain. Rented from this company on a trip to Austin. Initially all was well however, 6 weeks after we returned the car they started charging my card on file for "miscellaneous fees". I called the company and was told that they could see the charges but were unable to explain what they were for. They then asked me to call the actual location within the airport to try to find out why, however the only number available takes you directly back to the main phone tree I had just spoken with. As a solution they said they could email the location and I would have to wait 5-7 business days to see if they respond with the reason for the additional charges. Being that this was my only option, I agreed and locked my credit card in the interim to avoid the potential for fraudulent charges. It's now been 6 days and they have attempted to charge my card several more times for different fees yet have not reached out to me via phone or email. I do not recommend this company. read more
